OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Minichuch · 14/09/2014 08:47

Ooh port - that is mine and oh Xmas eve tradition, a bottle of vintage port, pizzas and movies - looks like the port is out of the way this year

We've got 20 wk scan on 10th - seems ages away - not finding out sex

Grinningcat · 14/09/2014 09:03

Thanks guys. I will have it well done from now on, but won't worry about my slip. It was a very nice steak though I must say and I reveled in having my appetite back to normal. Grin

Everyone is still guessing we are having a boy. DH had started saying he thinks it is a girl just to be different and annoy them Wink. I really am on the fence but it's getting annoying that everyone has the same opinion with no actual evidence. We won't be finding out the sex, but I don't want to be going through the next 5 months hoping that everyone will be proved wrong just to spite them!

We haven't properly thought about names, but we have a couple that we have always both liked so I 'd be surprised if they didn't figure somewhere.

Memphisbelly · 14/09/2014 09:19

I am constantly thinking about names, everyone has a (usually awful) opinion. We have one I/we love that I have only told my friend but I love another but we won't use it as it literally has everyone cringe but we have told them all so far that is our favourite Grin
I really want to go in with 3 names and pick one once he is here but we are really struggling to like 3 names this time, I have said before but its outpr surname that scuppers most names, they cannot be too long because our surname is long amongst other 'rules' we have set ourselves over the months.

I have awfull pains in my lower legs like shin splints but lower, really painful to walk, think I need to find some shoes with good support but have no idea where to start. It has kept me up the past 2 nights. So going shopping with my mum today as dh has gone on an all day motorbike ride

BanglesSpangles · 14/09/2014 09:32

memphis i hate to say it but some marks and spencer footglove, aka 'old lady shoes' could be your friend here- they dont actually look old lady-ish, but my goodness, that footglove stuff is comfortable! (And excellent arch support!)

I need to heed my own advice- spent a day walking round bristol in primarni pumps in the week, and my foot tendon problem has flared up again, so its clearly crappy shoes that are causing the problem

Memphisbelly · 14/09/2014 09:39

Bangles thank you! I used to have some Next Sole Revival heels that I literally had for about 8 years before they gave up on me this year and since then heels have taken a back seat but since then Next have expanded the range but they are all hideous (usually patent) things

Memphisbelly · 14/09/2014 09:53

Bangles....this actually looks worse than it was as I am hooked up to 2 drips at this point which is why the tubes are coming from it.......the plasters really are like sticky cling film

BanglesSpangles · 14/09/2014 10:34

Oh crikey, i dont think i can deal with that! Seriously- i cant even cope with post it notes! I do keep looking at the photo though... its making me sweat a bit but still, better than normal- usually Id have to avert my eyes, so maybe i'll be ok- still have five odd months to get used to the idea!

Gorge pic of your little one though!

Memphisbelly · 14/09/2014 10:54

He was literally minutes old, cut my face off as that would be enough to scare anyone from ever giving birth, Grin
I asked dh and he said it wasn't that big a sticker at first he said they stuck another one on top as it was starting to unstick, just ask mw at next appointment, they may not feel the need to put one on in your nhs trust. (You wont want an epidural that it a sticky plaster from the base of your spine up to your neck! But obv you cannot see that one)

Memphisbelly · 14/09/2014 10:56

And if it makes you feel any better the way you feel about stickers I am the same with holes in skin, grazes and cuts, I had keyhole surgery at 28 weeks and made them keep dressing on for weeks so I didn't see the wounds....this is made worse in childbirth as the thought of a csection scares me...not the op it is the cut that I have to clean after.

blankfornames · 14/09/2014 13:06

Ladies, DH was away last night and had the while bed (house!) to myself. It was bliss! He's an extremely early riser at the weekends so I might have to suggest that he sleeps in the spare room one weekend night a week...i wonder what he'll say!!!

Memphisbelly · 14/09/2014 15:04

Blank i think that is reasonable dh and ds were up at 5.45 today!Shock Dh is away all next week and normally I miss him being in my bed but my legs hurt so much I will be glad to spread out and prop them up on his pillows!

Went to get some shoes found some in Next and M and S but the only ones in a 6 were impractical colours so will order some on line. I actually vommed with the pan in town I really wish they could give me some strong pain killers

blankfornames · 14/09/2014 15:21

Memphis, that awful. I got insoles made in a sport's shop (ireland) that I pop into all my shoes, they have made a world of difference. I usually wear flats so these really help. Could you look into getting something like this made?

Memphisbelly · 14/09/2014 15:23

I am going to try everything, going docs tomorrow to beg for some painkillers

donkir · 14/09/2014 15:45

Memphis I also swear by insoles I got mine from boots. Doctor also prescribed codeine if the pain got too much but haven't needed it as of yet.

Becca1818 · 14/09/2014 15:52

Hi ladies. I don't tend to contribute to this thread very often as I can't seem to keep up with it! However thought you lovely lot would be in the know! I was wondering how big all of your bumps were at this point? I'm 19 weeks tomorrow and still look like I'm either bloated or had a big lunch! Should I be worried? X

Memphisbelly · 14/09/2014 15:57

Donkir than is reassuring that you got stronger pain relief, if I could just have something to take it off while I slept it would be amazing.

Becca don't worry lots of people do have tiny bumps with their first especially, my friend didn't even know until 26 weeks as it was unplanned and she had no symptoms....until she saw her belly move!

donkir · 14/09/2014 16:15

Becca I'm also 19 weeks with dc2 my bump measures 90cm all the way around but when I was pregnant with ds you couldn't even tell I was pregnant until 6 months so everyone is different and I really wouldn't worry. It just means my stretch marks have appeared sooner Hmm

babysquidge123 · 14/09/2014 17:05

Hehe just thought I'd post about my funny (in hindsight) morning!

DH and I drove our neighbour this morning to his restaurant (car broken down), where he made us coffee/tea before opening hours as a thank you. Since we'd left quickly, we hadn't had breakfast so I was hungry and by half 9 I was starving hungry. Neither of us had brought our wallet/purse so couldn't stop for food on the way home so we just started driving home and... I managed to throw up all over myself, the coat, new maternity jeans and the car!

It wasn't fun at the time but looking back, stopping in the McDonalds car park to throw up in front of the young lads in their pimped out cars must have been a sight!!

I've learnt my lesson - never leave home without breakfast!! Who knew pregnancy was so hilarious!

Bangonthedoor · 14/09/2014 20:18

Oh no babysquidge! I hope you felt better after some food and clothes/car interior aren't too messy?! Brew Cuppa for you!

I dragged DP 20 miles to babies r us today to have a look around at some cots etc and treat DD to a toy at toys r us. I was soooo gutted to find that they had closed over half the store for refurbishment so only had a few changing mats and a small selection of toys on display Angry they had nothing on their website to say so...so I very hormonally complained and only got an apology, of course I wanted money off my next shop! Wink

I thought my appetite was starting to go back to normal, couldn't manage dinner tonight but did manage a whole sharing bag of choc buttons Blush

Talking of stretch marks, ladies who are expecting subsequent babies, do you think we should be safe as our skin has already stretched?! I got several with DD on my tummy, boobs and legs. They don't really bother me, still managed bikinis but I'm not sure I'd want anymore!

Memphisbelly · 14/09/2014 20:26

Bangon how annoying you are right it ahould be on their websiteM i hope you flounce off saying you will take your business to Mothercare :-D
Regarding stretchmarks I got loads on my hips as a teen but none during pregnancy last time (probably duecto spending about a tenner a week on cream) so no help but my sis looked like a tiger after her first and somehow got more with her second! My mum got one extra mark with each baby! My belly button already looks like a shiney space hopper

freneticfox · 14/09/2014 20:35

Evening all! Had a lovely time with Mum visiting this weekend, she managed to buy us a pram! We'll be picking it up in January, but I'm so excited! I felt a little 'doom' about buying something so big before our 20w scan, but it was on special offer and DH and I fell in love with it. Also the warranty doesn't start until my due date which is nice.

Had fish and chips for dinner last night from the local chippy and oh god... bad idea. I was up most of the night with awful nausea. Deep fried foods are NOT good for me at the moment :(

Memphisbelly · 14/09/2014 20:58

frenetic what did you go for?

babysquidge123 · 14/09/2014 21:18

Feel much better now, bangonthedoor! Just needed some food!!

We chose our pram too, going for the silver cross wayfarer as we got a good deal on a nearly new one. Since we got it straight away, MIL has insisted on taking it for superstitious reasons, which got me thinking/being more paranoid!

Does anyone else get the superstitious-ness sometimes?

Memphisbelly · 14/09/2014 21:31

With ds my mil made dh not let me keep the pushchair in the house but to me it is just crazy as you then put it in the loft and it stays under your roof for the second, she had lots of other gems too. She isn't allowed to spout any crap to me this time....I have grown a back bone and she now doesn't tell dh to do stuff Grin all doom and gloom that woman!

What they didn't know is I went to Fil's house (where pushchair was kept) to push it around every week when they were all at work Grin

sandulacek · 14/09/2014 22:20

Grin memphis

Baby that's probably one thing I won't want at home...I know it's silly Blush

What cream do you use against the stretchmarks? As it's my first I don't know if I should just use anything at the moment but more quantity or start using a special cream?
