OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Bangonthedoor · 08/09/2014 22:34

Ah interesting memphis Grin let us know!

hazzer urine test is where you add some of your urine to a tablespoon of bicarbonate of soda and watch it's reaction. If it really fizzes up like a shaken up fizzy drink it means boy and if it has no reaction at all it's a girl . Did it today and it shows girl. Will have to wait until February to find out!

Mexicantortilla · 08/09/2014 22:50

I've never heard of the urine test for gender before, really looking forward to my scan in 5 weeks, don't know if I dare try test!! We have 3 girls and I can't see me having anything else but another one, DH is not so secretly hoping for a boy.
I'm going to look at the Jane Tridor Matrix travel system as the carrycot doubles as a lie flat car seat, probably won't have time until next month tho
This is a surprise baby for us and having moved house last year we sold everything thinking we wouldn't have another, DD1 19, DD2 18, DD3 4, DH did warn me though when I sold everything Smile

BanglesSpangles · 09/09/2014 07:40

Nb gender test does not involve actually pissing on a teaspoon like i thought you can use a receptacle of your choosing

Bangonthedoor · 09/09/2014 08:00

Haha bangles GrinGrinGrin

sandulacek · 09/09/2014 10:41

Morning all!
Had my 16 week appt earlier and all is good. Apparently I have amazingly high iron levels woohoo. Mind you I like a bit of meat.
I got to hear the heartbeat. So good for reassurance as I haven't felt any movement yet.
haha Bangles I might try it now I know I don't have to pee on a teaspoon! Grin

BanglesSpangles · 09/09/2014 13:06

Bangles' daily tights watch: M&S 60 denier are rubbish- they're stupidly short in the leg-have spent all day hoiking them up. Considering I'm 5'4 and not exactly massive, i can't say this is a problem i've ever expected to encounter!

Big in the waist too

Props to you sand and your amazing iron levels! I must say, that's the first pregnant person I've heard say that- most people I know have been whacked onto iron tablets quick smart- my sister's husband even got accused of starving her because the docs couldn't work out how her iron levels had plummeted so fast!

donkir · 09/09/2014 14:57

Oooo I just felt jellybean move from the outside. Very exciting.

Memphisbelly · 09/09/2014 16:19

Donkir eeeeeek how exciting...another week and you will see it move if not before!

Mexican wow thats an awesome age gap 2 close together then a break then another 2 quite close together!

I have come home to jury service summons in November dh is all you can't do it, it could last months but it does say most is less than 2 weeks! So tired after a long feeling day at work and mow have to go to sil's for a birthday tea.

Scan tomorrow afternoon

freneticfox · 09/09/2014 18:45

Just catching up! Thanks donkir and Memphis, really looking forward to the weekend now! I know my Mum will probably want to get us something while she's up here, but I'm still feeling really paranoid about something going wrong at our 20-week scan, which I guess is a normal worry.

Went to lunch with my friend and her nearly two-year-old toddler who is just going into the loud and demanding every millisecond phase, but she still manages to be utterly adorable. I guess I'm definitely broody ;)

freneticfox · 09/09/2014 18:58

Oh and is it blowing anyone else's mind that there's a May thread now? It's weird that at the same time as feeling like this pregnancy is dragging, time has definitely passed a lot quicker than I realised.

Viperama · 09/09/2014 19:48

Hanflan just catching up, your stomach turning around is def movement, that was the first movement I felt last week at 17+1. Hooray mini Hanflan!

Viperama · 09/09/2014 19:56

Scummy sorry if you've already covered this on a prev thread but why do they think you nay gave transferred toxo?

I have 2 indoor cats and though DP changes their litter I've had to a few times (used disposable gloves) but I squish my cats daily and am really peeved nhs don't test as standard, would be nice to know if I'm immune or not!

Memphisbelly · 09/09/2014 19:59

Frenetic I know time is now ticking on for us all now! Luckily with ds I missed out on demanding 2 yo and could keep him quiet when out with books and toys it is now he is more demanding but luckily he is now easily bribed Wink

Been for nieces birthday tea and am stuffed, nothing better than getting food made for you so no washing up either!

Ds has picked a name Jumper Twinkle Gorgeous Star Grin

Memphisbelly · 09/09/2014 20:00

Viper think it is where scummy lives they routinely test for it so came back positive

Viperama · 09/09/2014 20:11

I thought if you've had toxo in the past you can't get sick from it in pregnancy and so baby will be ok? It's in,y if you come down with it there's a risk?

Memphisbelly · 09/09/2014 20:43

I am unsure I am not a cat person and won't even touch one so I have never thought much about it

Minichuch · 09/09/2014 21:11

We've got 2 cats - in fact just been trying to wrestle a dead mouse off one of them - and I didn't even think of toxo - my dh has been on top of doing trays since found out so I wasn't coming into contact

GeekyHybrid · 09/09/2014 22:03

Evening all, re: toxo I think if you're a long term cat owner the chances are you've come into contact with it at some point so probably carry the immunity. Routine testing could be useful BUT gets us into one of the arguments I've had more times than I care to think about due to having family on both sides of the Atlantic; a 'free' on demand NHS or astronomical health insurance bills?
Feeling guilty because all I could be bothered 'cooking' for dinner was hot dogs - OH on lates :-/ We'll next see each other awake when I get home from work Friday. Hey ho, at least I'm 'out' the next two nights, a leaving do at work and a lecture the next night so that keeps me busy.
Yay for all the movements and have a good scan tomorrow Memphis. I'm off to bed to chase that elusive good nights sleep!

donkir · 09/09/2014 22:08

Has anyone tried a sleep pillow yet. I ordered one from Argos that supports your belly and helps you sleep correctly. I can't get used to it both nights I've ended up wrestling with it and throwing it on the floor in the middle of the night. How's everyone else finding them?

Memphisbelly · 09/09/2014 22:13

Donkir I got a dream genii last time and couldn't get on with it so got rid. I just used a standard pillow between my legs and found that better, I was gutted as everyone raved about them!

freneticfox · 09/09/2014 22:26

I have a Dream Genii (present from DH) and I love it, I usually have to sleep with my knee propped up due to arthritic hips, so I'm finding it brilliant! Don't know how it will be once I'm bigger.

I was feeling celebratory earlier about being over the worst of my sickness but... you guessed it... feeling queasy tonight.

Damnit.

Bangonthedoor · 09/09/2014 22:29

I too went out and bought a special pillow last time but hated the thing! So I ripped out it's stuffing and gave to someone who wanted to make teddy bears Grin money well spent for me! Hmm

This time ill just be using a few normal pillows, 1 under my bump, 1 supporting my back and 1 between my legs! And then rearrange them all when I need to reposition!

Memphisbelly · 09/09/2014 23:01

On the plus side I bought the dream genii from tk maxx and sold it on ebay for same price I bought it!

People who are feeling kicks have you noticed any pattern yet! This baby wakes around 11pm and has a major party every night. Ds did this and 11pm and between 3.30-4am for last 10 weeks or so (well this is when I noticed it) and this was when he used to wake for a bottle once he was born.Grin

Tonight ds has had an 'itchy bottom', dh and the dog have the worst wind ever and I realise with another boy on the way a house of males is going to be a smelly one Confused

ScummyWithGin · 10/09/2014 00:31

Evening everyone!

Yes they test for toxo routinely here at your 1st appointment. I also had to have some tests done before I was pregnant and they tested for toxo as part of that. I was negative then so unfortunately they know for sure that I picked it up in the 5 months between the tests. Antibody levels suggest a recent infection making it more likely that it was since I became pregnant. I've had cats for 10 years and eaten rare/raw meat for even longer so it seems like it's just bloody bad luck that it's happened now. 50% of cases in the US are from rare meat and I think it's far more likely to be that as I didn't know I was pregnant until nearly 7 weeks and definitely ate some before then. Plus I'm not convinced any of our cats have ever caught anything other than the odd fly in their lives. It could also be salad that hasn't been washed properly or unpasturised goats cheese.

I think I agree with Hybrid re testing v costs-the bills are REALLY starting to add up! I've also had problems with my Ob/Gyn and without wanting to start a US system v NHS debate, I honestly don't get why so many people over here are so rude about the NHS-I really miss it!! Although I have been given 7 months of antibiotics for free which was rather a large surprise considering how expensive everything else is!

On a much more positive note, I felt the first kick with my hand last night! Only once so far but very exciting. I seem to feel most movement (mostly still bubble like) when I lie on my back. Pillow wise, I've just got an extra one between my legs and that seems to be working pretty well so far.

Good luck with your scan tomorrow Memphis and I'm loving the name your son had chosen!

Hope you feel better again tomorrow Frenetic.

Bangonthedoor · 10/09/2014 06:46

Morning Smile

Good luck for today memphis

DD has got her 2/2 and a half year review today. I'm nervous because I don't know what to expect. Especially as I don't know who this health visitor is - they are constantly changing!

To top it all off DD has her first trip to the dentist! Today will be interesting Grin
