Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Memphisbelly · 04/09/2014 15:03

i live in leicestershire but own a stall on the market

freneticfox · 04/09/2014 15:05

Ah, not living here. Good move... only been here a few years and can't say I'm a fan of the place!

BanglesSpangles · 04/09/2014 16:19

My nearest kiddicare is/was Lakeside- went in there about 6 weeks ago as my sister wanted a cotbed mattress and it was like the baby apocolypse was coming- practically nothing on the shelves, queues of people buying piles of stuff at not much of a discount and a half hour wait to get out of the car park because of the crowds.

Haven't dared go back since, but we've got a mothercare world just round the corner that i sense im going to be frequenting rather a lot!

fishcake84 · 04/09/2014 17:52

Hello all!

Had my 16 week appt today and heard baby with the doppler! Amazing, but I van understand why some midwives are reluctant to do it - the heart they are aiming for is about the size of a grape in your belly - really easy to miss and then cause unnecessary stress.

Ugh, all this talk of pushchairs etc is making me guilty. I haven't even thought about it all yet, I keep telling myself there's oodles of time for stuff like that... perhaps when I actually get a bump it'll feel real and I'll start panic-buying totally inappropriate things!

LittleMissSunshine33 · 04/09/2014 18:34

Hi all have short listed it to three prams Quinny, Silver Cross or Maxi cosi always good to hear people's thoughts! Two of my friends love the bugaboos but it's so much once you buy everything you need!

Bluewater shopping centre near me has another and toddler event on in October and apparently you can get a knocked down price if you buy it there and then!

My DH has a spreadsheet to compare features/price of different models and spends his evenings watching YouTube clips of how to collapse different push chairs. We've flipped between a number of favourites: iCandy Peach, Stokke Cruisi, Bugaboo Cameleon/Buffalo, Vista Uppababy. Have done trips to Mamas and Papas and Mothercare.

And after all that we're still no closer to deciding! Am getting a bit frustrated with HIS quest for the perfect one when I'll be the one doing 90% of the pushing Angry

BanglesSpangles · 04/09/2014 19:09

suzi i need to see this spreadsheet! I was going to do something similar, but if the legwork has been done Wink

LittleMissSunshine33 · 04/09/2014 19:11

Can you both let me know the answer to the perfect pushchair! I love spreadsheets but hate making them!

Frenetic you have heard me say about some of the odd people I encounter at work Grin luckily my lovely customers make it worth working there! I thought I knew who you were we have a lovely customer who is 16 weeks pg but she works right in the city....if you ever need baby knitting supplies I hear the mother and daughter on that stall are wonderful Wink

Suzi I can see why he wants to research though something like 90% of people change their pushchair in the first year because it is clumpy and heavy/difficult to set up etc.

Quinny are one of the highest depreciating as they are so much wider/heavier than others like it so people seem to swap them for strollers quickly, my friend bought one on ebay with warrenty still as previous owner kept it for 5 months and it came with the maxicosi car seat she got it for £75 (they are £400 +)
I have had to do all the carseat and pushchair course from when I worked at Mothercare (personally I wouldn't buy a pushchair from there as their after care is shockingly shit)

I have just bought a phil and teds Smart with carrycot as my stroller to keep in thr car as they are really light, I plan on walking the school run and the thought of walking then outting it in car to go out in day then come back and get it out to do school run again so got this second one cheap to keep in car!

sandulacek · 04/09/2014 19:33

Great to read about some of the pram recommendations. We went to Mothercare the other week and ran away as we didn't know where to start. But I'm sure my DH will do a thorough research!

Littlemiss is the event in a specific shop or Bluewater?

LittleMissSunshine33 · 04/09/2014 20:04

Sand it's at Glow in Bluewater on the 11th and 12th October I think! We plan to get most things there!

sandulacek · 04/09/2014 20:09

Good tip thanks! Have to put it in my diary.

We're also thinking about going to this baby event in Olympia in October.

BanglesSpangles · 04/09/2014 20:49

Ooh we were thinking about that too, sand- tossing up going to a couple of the babynatal sessions too- i really dont fancy nct, or an antenatal course, but thought a few hours of crash course sounded good!

jenmcspen · 04/09/2014 21:01

I think my OH has become interested in the pram thing as it allows him to chat away about suspension and tyres while being praised for being interested Grin

Memphisbelly · 04/09/2014 21:17

Jenmc my dh got his suspension fix by buying a 50cc off road motorbike for ds on his FIRST birthday Shock

Poor dh has got me showing him fabric for the blind in the spare room!

freneticfox · 04/09/2014 21:20

Memphis - I'm a crocheter; does that count? ;)

I rarely if ever venture into town, I'm a wee bit of a recluse and tend to spend most evenings holed up with DH and the cats... we'll be forced to get out more once little 'un has arrived!

Starting to think I should be considering prams... eeek.

Memphisbelly · 04/09/2014 21:22

Frenetic I sell all that stuff and can't knit or crochet. Look in John Lewis at pushchairs too they sell the brands Kiddicare don't

bellaboo88 · 04/09/2014 21:28

I've chosen silver cross pioneer. Its simple & light/easy to put together. I did fancy bugaboo bee but recently they've looked like mini wheelchairs to me.

£50 deposit & they'll store it ready for when I want it. I want a isofix base/seat too. Good job I'm not paying however I'm ordering my new car for "1st march....bubba will only just be born around then so I've got dp's car for family trips till mines traded x

jenmcspen · 04/09/2014 21:45

I didn't realise how much choice there was until we went to have a real look. We went into an independent shop and she was great, really narrowed down the options for us (we need something that can cope off pavements as semi rural and lots of dog walks!) Still think it will be a while before we make a firm decision. ..is a lot of money to spend Confused
Memphis, what are mothercare prams like? I have a friend who loves her orb, but haven't been to have a look yet.

Bangonthedoor · 04/09/2014 21:53

My lovely dad bought us the first silver cross surf when I had DD. Newer model out now but I was so chuffed with mine so going to use it again this time. You could steer it one handed so can take phone calls Grin also has great suspension and is great for "off roading". I like the look of the silver cross wayfarer too but going to stick with my good old surf, they do a surf board for it too so DD can hitch a ride Smile

Memphisbelly · 04/09/2014 22:00

Jenmc the orb and the my4 are supposed to be really good but if something goes wrong in anyway they send them away to be looked at which can take up to a month (my old manager wouldn't even process some for a week) and you would get some cheap shitty stroller unsuitable for little babies or a pushchair made before I was born covered in baby sick to use while yours is processed, if the back wheels are slightly worn the would say you had hung a bag off the back and this would imvalidate your warrenty (it invalidates your warrenty for all pushchair companies but they used this excuse a lot to save having to fix them under warrenty)

JacktheLab · 05/09/2014 07:02

I have three prams/buggies!!!

I started off with an old quinny from a friend, its now going to be used for the fourth baby, so although it's looking very tired we are getting our mileage out of it. I have a big old pram body for it which we used for getting Jacob to sleep when he was teeny and then just detached it from the pram and carried it into the house.

Second is a quinny buzz, which is front and rear facing and lies right down to pretty much flat, it's quite cosy and three wheeled so good for walks round our village, we still use it for taking Jacob and th dogs out for a walk although he's almost outgrown it now. I agree, it's a big heavy thing, but I have a big car so I don't need to worry about having enough boot space to fit it into.

Finally we have a maclaren stroller, it's an umbrella fold, the seat lies back really far, flat I think and it's much smaller when folded. I wouldnt use it for a small baby and definetly not with a small baby in the winter as it's not as padded in the seat so it's colder but it's brilliant for having in the car for use around town and we took it to the USA on holiday last year, we took it right to the gate and then collected it soon as we left the plane, made a huge difference when you have to run through airports.

I wont be getting a new pram this time round, so I'm quite happy with what we've got thankfully!

I'd recommend a sling though, I have a moby wrap and used it loads and loads when Jacob was under six months, he settled a lot better when he was slung.

I've been called in for a GTT test this morning, no breakfast yet!!!! I had gestational diabetes last time round, so early testing for me! Say goodbye to cakes until February I think :(

Memphisbelly · 05/09/2014 08:55

Jack when will you get the results to thr tests?
Thank you for advice on a sling I really want a slimg this time I borrowed one when ds was tiny but there are so many I am a bit stumped, apparently there is a sling library around here where you can hire them or go for advice to buy one.

JacktheLab · 05/09/2014 09:09

I can't remember when I get the results am quite resigned to be diabetic this time so it's not a great drama really

There are loads of types of slings I've got another more structured one too but I can't remember what it's called, Jacob got too heavy for me to carry him quite quickly but I have antenatal friends from last time who were right into it, one still back carries her son who will be three in decShock

Bimberley · 05/09/2014 09:31

I have no idea buggy wise yet! We haven't even looked. It will be the last thing I buy.

Re sling, I am definitely getting one this time. I can then sort out other Dc etc while baby is in sling.
