Congratulations bohec.

I second the eating lots advise to keep away the nausea. I keep lots of seeds/nuts/biscuits in my desk at work and in my bag so I can keep snacking.

I also think tiredness is the worst thing for setting off nausea so get lots of rest. DP usually takes over most of housework stuff while I'm pregnant.

Decided I'm going to book an early reassurance scan. After all the heartbreak of my last pregnancy (lost the baby at 14 weeks), I need some reassurance. And DP seems to be really struggle to connect with it all at the moment so I think it'll be good for him too.

Chococroc · 18/08/2014 12:46

luna cassie

I'm also in Norwich!

Siarie · 18/08/2014 12:46

I feel my comment might have been a little lacking, I've been looking for somewhere like this since the TTC bus. So I'm super glad that I've found you all finally! Couldn't believe that there wouldn't be somewhere for this type of thread on mumsnet!

CareBearWithFangs · 18/08/2014 12:57

Welcome siarie Grin

Wineandchoccy · 18/08/2014 13:03

Welcome siarie what an excellent edd you have! Grin

I am so tired today and just want to go home and crawl into my bed.

dancestomyowntune · 18/08/2014 13:10

Quick question, had spotting over the weekend, but it's calmed down today. Would you ring ELI and tell them? Already under them, with an appointment for a scan next Tuesday, but wondering if they might bring it forward with the spotting?

GinRickey · 18/08/2014 13:15

Afternoon! 7 weeks today and I am SO THIRSTY. Constantly.

Nausea not too bad - I second the "snacks in desk drawer" tactic, it seems to be working. Although my problem now is not eating ALL THE SNACKS IMMEDIATELY.

I'm in Hertfordshire: I've been with DH ten years and married 7.

Linda - I've got a hair dye appointment this weekend and I'm going to go ahead with it. I asked my doctor last week and general advice seems to be that most research suggests it's not harmful (although obviously the actual research done is fairly limited). There's a risk your skin might be more sensitive or that the colour might not take in quite the same way, so have a patch test.

CatRen27 · 18/08/2014 13:33

Eating often feels like the last thing I need but I'm willing to try it! Also dealing with awful (tmi alert) diarrhoea, which is making my working day just delightful...

Welcome to the newbies! [Cake]

Lindalove · 18/08/2014 13:37

GinRickey I think they suggest you try and use ammonia-free dyes if you can if that helps but that's good to know, thanks. My local salon does use ammonia-free, so I'll go with that I think.

TBH I think some of these 'don't dos' are just people saying don't do it because the evidence otherwise is lacking, but I think you can probably drive yourself mad that way. I saw someone online asking whether they should play their guitar or not the other day while pregnant - I mean?? Maybe if you were heavy metaller with 10x stack amps in your bedroom, maybe not as baby might get a bit of a jolt, but a bit of plucking on an acoustic would be calming you'd think...

this was also making me laugh www.buzzfeed.com/mikespohr/things-you-should-never-say-to-your-partner-when-shes-pre#27w5bxh

I'm actually pretty lucky a my other half is also off the booze save for Saturdays... so no 'wow this beer is GREAT!' thank god or he might get a bit of a smack.

CatRen27 · 18/08/2014 13:40

Aww my cake thingy didn't work. How sad.

Siarie · 18/08/2014 13:52

wine I won't be surprised at all if I end up going over into May, which doesn't bother me since I'm a May baby myself :D

Lavendercandles · 18/08/2014 15:15

I'm the same Lindalove slight cramping and achey boobs. All good signs I think! Great news you have a scan on Friday...it will be so nice to see little one for the first time.

I had my hair died ten days ago before I knew I was pregnant. Trying not to worry about it too much as figure it must happen all the time.

FizzyBubbly · 18/08/2014 15:55

Dances, if it's calmed down I wouldn't worry to much, but as always theres no harm in making the phone call and asking.

Dyed my hair at home yesterday using an ammonia dye Shock although not worried at all. Used Garnier Olia when pregnant with DD, which doesn't contain it but I found the grey coverage wasn't great.

Hi and congrats to Siarie, we were chatting on another thread! Good to see you here!

Minstrelle · 18/08/2014 15:58

Hello everyone,

Eeeeek, can I join in? Got a BFP on Friday and apparently due 22 April 2015. Still trying to get my head around it!!

Lindalove · 18/08/2014 16:08

Lavendercandles yes these things happen before you know you're preggers - I've got a great photo of myself at a music festival when I was (unknowingly) so, a few weeks ago with a massive pint of super strength pear cider! With luck if bean makes it, he won't be a Wurzel

Congrats Minstrelle!

Minstrelle · 18/08/2014 16:28

Thanks Lindalove, it's all still a bit of a shock. This will be our 1st - I'm 31.

And I did a 1/2 marathon the weekend before (obv without knowing) - I can't imagine my heart rate was anything like within "acceptable" levels. And then I also had a couple of drinks in the evening. Oh dear. Not the best start! Trying not to think about that too much.

Cassieyellow · 18/08/2014 16:40

Ha ah choco! Thanks to whoever commented on contact lense issues. That's me.

littleluna89 · 18/08/2014 16:58

welcome siarie

Oh!! choco and cassie we'll have to set up an April Norwich camp! Are you both going for hospital births?

GinRickey · 18/08/2014 17:03

I ate steak tartare for dinner and drank most of a bottle of red (DH's 30th so it was a bit of a celebration...) the night before I got my bfp. I thought the queasiness the next day was a hangover...

Twittwooo · 18/08/2014 17:15

Yes, the work thing is difficult Brixton. Today I decided to tell my colleagues, even though we haven't told anyone else. I work in a small, close team and quite frankly I didn't have the energy to make up lies and keep secrets! They're very perceptive too, so I'm sure between my caffeine abstinence and sickly look they would have guessed anyway! It's easier when you don't have to hide it, but I guess it also totally depends on your place of work. catellington - I had the panic of feeling no morning sickness one day too, but it came back with a vengeance so I honestly think it can come and go. Linda - we are the same, been together for 16 years! We both sometimes wish we'd had children a bit earlier but we had fun times in those years so it's just the way things have worked for us.

cinnamongreyhound · 18/08/2014 17:48

I thought it was because of it reacting differently to your hair LindaLove? I stopped dying mine when I was pregnant with ds1 just in case but I wasn't too bothered about a special occasion or anything.

Congratulations Sairie

I think it's because your c was capital CatRen27.

Give them a call dancestomyowntune, they can always say wait until next tues or bring it forward if they feel they need to.

I'm off work now for two weeks and I've felt rubbish most of the day and falling asleep every time we're in the car!

I'm 35 miles from Norwich, my brother lives in Norwich too :)

BrixtonBunny · 18/08/2014 18:09

Today has been hellish, despite stuffing my face full of crisps and crackers. Dreading tomorrow as travelling for work for the day to an event, 6.5 hours of train and 2 hours in a car all in all. I get travel sick at the best of times so quite worried! I've just bought some travel bands at in boots, fx they help a bit.

I have a feeling that if this bean sticks it's going to be a very long first trimester! Those of you who are already mummies - dare I ask how long your sickness carried on for? I've read it can last until 14 weeks Confused

BrixtonBunny · 18/08/2014 18:10

Congrats Siarie!! Grin

Chococroc · 18/08/2014 18:16

Excellent, several Norwich/nearby based people on here!

littleluna

Yes, will be in hospital, I have a pre existing condition so no option really.

I'm struggling with the work thing at the moment, really don't want to (and won't) tell them yet, at least not until after my first scan (around 7 weeks) but been in meetings all day talking about plans for the next year, feel pretty bad not saying anything! I'm likely to have fortnightly hospital appointments though, over work time, so don't think I will be able to keep it secret for long.

BrixtonBunny · 18/08/2014 18:19

Choco I told my manager last week after we saw heartbeat as I thought if I miscarry now I'll want some time off, and if the bean sticks I'll need time off to see midwife, scan etc before it's safe to tell people. He was nice but I'm not expecting any special treatment... (even though I feel like I deserve it - I'm growing a human in here!) Wink
