I've never suffered from heart burn (lucky me) & so far in pregnancy I haven't either. I don't envy you ladies that are suffering and I think you should get discounts on gaviscon!

In other news or nursery wall stickers have arrived and dh is excited about putting them up so will probably do that at the weekend as well!

sleepisforthetired · 05/09/2014 13:20

MAT for collected (all feels "proper" real now!)
Exemption form dropped in finally to the GP (only had since about 8 weeks...)

2nd time round for me so even as someone "with a higher BMI" still feeling movements. Not yet regular, but still lovely to feel :)

Kate Baby's favourite thing seems to be doing what feels like a headstand stretch - very strange sensation, and hits right into a tickly part along my scar-line (insides)

For me, feeling the movements is def the best part of pregnancy as the rest sometimes feels like such a ball ache.

Gaviscon - should be able to get this free on prescription... just mentioning

oops - 22+5 for me today :)

Hello January 2015ers! Many congratulations to you all, I hope you're all past any sickness and feeling well.

Would you mind if I gatecrashed to quickly ask a question? Someone has just contacted my company saying he's from the Royal College of Obstetricians and asking if we'd partner with them on their magazine called 'Baby & You', which is given to all UK expectant mums at the 20 week scan. Having done a bit of googling, it seems it may not be all it's cracked up to be. They want a LOT of money for us to partner with them.

So, I wondered if any of you had been given this magazine at your recent scans, whether it was useful, interesting etc?

Sorry, I know it's really cheeky to drop in to your thread and ask like this, but short of getting knocked up again, I'm not sure how to find out more!

Cheers.

EmmaJan2015 · 05/09/2014 15:47

I've not seen the magazine i'm afraid Tolchock so can't comment.

Thank goodness it's the weekend. Fingers crossed I get a few good nights sleep...i've been waking at 5-6am every morning (inc weekends) even when i'm really tired and I just can't seem to sleep.

Still no proper baby kicks or feelings for me yet. Some flutters and bubbles and pops occasionally. And a tingly itchy feeling which i'm assuming is my skin stretching. I'm looking forward to some proper kicks!

Lazy weekend for me...meeting friends for a (soft) drink in the pub for an hour later. Afternoon tea with my mum, mil, sil and sister tomorrow. Sunday will be a walk somewhere before slobbing out with a Sunday roast and some TV.

Have a good one everyone x

Hey everyone, I haven't really posted much on here but have been keeping up with everyone's exciting developments. I just have a quick question and was wondering if anyone could help.

I had my 20 week scan last week and they didn't say anything particularly worrying but they wanted to rebook me for 22 weeks to have a repeat scan to get additional measurements. (I had to have a rescan at 12 weeks because of awkward baby and had to jiggle a lot at this one too so it could be that?) Anyway, I got the call today to say it will be on Monday and was just wondering if this sounded routine? I will have to go from work (an hours drive to there, plus then an hours drive to the hospital) and then back and because I'm at work I will have to go alone. If it's routine then it should be ok but don't want to do all that if it could be a cause for concern.

Any help appreciated, thank you!

Welshwabbit · 06/09/2014 11:50

AlteredCarbon, don't know if this helps at all, but I had to go back for a further scan to check out my baby's kidneys, which were draining slowly. They were very specific about the reason. I have heard others say that they had to go back to get proper measurements as their baby was too wriggly at the 20 week scan, so it may well just be that. In my limited experience, if there is a specific concern/reason for the further scan, they tell you.

KateTheHuman · 06/09/2014 12:22

I had to go back to rescan the arteries.

Dec2013mummy · 06/09/2014 19:30

Hello all :) hope everyone is well. I have been back at work this week so have been checking back but haven't posted. It seems to have gone very quiet!! Gone are the days of pages upon pages a day!
Anyway, bump has been very active the last few days and I am feeling exhausted. Good news is that out mortgage has finally come through so we are hoping to move this week or next, bad news is that means lots of packing!!

Pesto11 · 06/09/2014 20:19

Great news about the mortgage!
Dh and I had been looking for our dream house for over a year and finally made the decision that we can't afford anything and we will have to wait till this baby and any future babies have all been born till we can afford anything again as my salary will dramatically be cut and we will have new expensive baby outgoings ... :(
It has gone quiet here, I'm not on Facebook so not sure if everyone's there.
Baby/bump is getting bigger and heavier every evening... Really feeling it now- don't know how I'm planning to work till 38weeks...eeek

cheshirem2b · 07/09/2014 07:56

It has gone quiet hasn't it?

Last night we went for a meal for my mum's 60th birthday. brilliant food and when we got home baby performed brilliantly and mum saw and felt it kick! Grin

I'm singing this afternoon so hopefully baby will behave for that!

Great news about the mortgage Dec. Hope the move goes well!

SK28 · 07/09/2014 08:09

Emma, I've had the same flutters and also the tingly skin which surprised me. Started getting the odd 'pinched from the inside' feeling which I think is baby kicking but with an anterior placenta it might be a while before we feel anything from the outside :(

I'm also suffering from insomnia and early waking now, which is making work more tricky. Hoping it changes or I won't make it to 37/38 weeks at work!

Had my first pg yoga class yesterday which was good but hard. I'm an anxious person and I really struggle to relax and also to breathe properly especially if I'm focusing on something new or difficult. Teacher was lovely though and promised it'll get easier and there are just 7 in the class so it's very nice and friendly. I mentioned the back pain I'd been having and she tried to determine if it's back or pelvis - I said back but then all day yesterday and overnight it's been worse and - following her instructions to differentiate between pelvis and lower back when I could actually feel the pain - I think it's pelvis. So am hoping that having identified this means she can start working magic on it next week in class!

It has gone quiet on here - there is more chitchat on FB now, maybe because it's easier and quicker to respond to individual updates or questions? Am definitely going to try and get back into the habit of popping on here daily though.

We had our 20 week scan on Tuesday and all was good. I was surprised though because the picture was so much less clear than 12 weeks! At 12 weeks we could see the whole baby on screen and it was sooo clear and real. This time it was obviously more bits of baby than the whole baby at once, but even so it just seemed harder to make out features etc. Did anyone else find this? We did get a cute profile head shot and adorable foot shot though :)

EmmaJan2015 · 07/09/2014 08:10

Good news on the mortgage! We're trying to decide whether to move in 2-3 years or extend with what we've got. I suppose i'll have to do some research on schools and take it from there.

I didn't want to buy too much baby stuff too soon (esp as I haven't even had my 20 wk scan yet - on Weds) but we got over excited last night and bought a play mat and bouncer seat which were on offer. Cant wait for them to arrive!

Off to JL later to have a play/look at prams etc too.

Is anyone bothering with a maternity winter coat? I cant decide whether to bother.

EmmaJan2015 · 07/09/2014 08:21

Ahh great news on your scan being all good SK28!

The insomnia is rubbish isnt it? I thought this was the time to rest and get loads of sleep before we dont have another lie in for years....blah blah. It's so annoying not being able to sleep!

I'm planning on working till 38 weeks too. A few friends think i'm bonkers but i'd rather have as much leave as possible afterwards. I have a 10-15 min walk to the train station each day which isn't all flat so it wont be much fun if we have a bad winter. Work are pretty flexible and I can prob work from home for the last couple of weeks if necessary.

Would you mind confirming how to join the FB group please? I recall seeing it mentioned somewhere but I cant remember what the group is called - thanks Smile

My sister (who is due 2 days before me) started a maternity yoga class and loves it. I've never done yoga before but apparently that doesnt matter. Might give it a go.

SK28 · 07/09/2014 09:35

Emma I think send Jan Babies a friend request and/or a direct message with your mumsnet name. 'She' then can invite you to the private group that's called the 115 bus. I think that's right anyway.

I have the same flexibility about working from home and I already do for 2 days a week. I'm hoping my handover will be done by early or mid December so the last couple of weeks I can work from home just tying up last bits and then my last few days holiday will cover the Christmas/new year bit.

Can't decide about winter coat - I do feel the cold so might need to. Feels like it'll be expensive though and so far I've only bought mat clothes that are in the sale so am reluctant to start splashing out!

SK28 · 07/09/2014 09:37

Oh and I think yoga is worth a try. I had never done it before yesterday either - I think most people who already do yoga might stick with their usual class so the pg yoga class is likely to be mostly beginners. I like the sound of it as it is gentle exercise, a way to meet other mums to be, and there's a focus on relaxing and breathing to help during labour too. Given my aforementioned struggle to relax, I think this could be useful for me!

Loobyloo893 · 07/09/2014 12:21

Great news on the mortgage Smile

I've got a maternity coat from last pg as I was teaching then and needed it for playground duty and as I don't drive waiting at the bus stop In the middle of winter wasn't fun. Guess it just depends how much time ul be outside.

Starfish decided to go all quiet on me yesterday and I was feeling tired and rubbish anyway so that didn't help. He had a nice wriggle in evening though so that reassured me. I've been really tired too, waking up loads in the night. Had two naps yesterday and going to have another one this afternoon. DH is in charge is DS today so I can rest Grin

EmmaJan2015 · 07/09/2014 13:37

Enjoy your rest Looby!

SK28 i'll speak to my sister about the yoga and will hopefully go with her from next week.

We bought loads of cakes home from the afternoon tea yesterday and it is so tempting to slob out on the sofa all day eating cake and drinking tea Grin. Got pram shopping to do first though.

I think i'll see how I go without a maternity coat. I reckon I can get away with a few i've got for a good while yet anyway. I might just have to layer up with scarves etc.

sleepisforthetired, totally forgot to say thanks for the advice regarding the baby first aid course. The ones i've seen are £90 for each of us for a full day session and I was hoping for something which was just a few hours or a half day perhaps. I'm going to ask the midwife on Weds to see if she can recommend one locally which isn't a full day course.

cheshirem2b · 07/09/2014 21:21

I hadn't thought about a winter coat! I got a lovely coat last year which is quite floaty until the waist up when it gets fitted... Might try it on and see if I can make it fit over the bump so I don't need a new one!

off to bed soon I think as I've not slept well this weekend and have had a busy weekend with some singing as well. Have discovered that singing the high notes isn't easy with a bump and therefore compromised diaphragm!

I've been singing in my current choir for 10 years and will be sad to miss Christmas Eve singing but realistically I won't be up to it at 39weeks pg! I'm calling it a day after our Carol Service on 14th December I think.

Dec2013mummy · 08/09/2014 06:50

Morning all :) I'm so tired this morning. Agree with the insomnia! My problem is though that Ds will wake up in the night but then I can't get back to sleep, although he was awake for 2 hrs last night. His teeth were really bothering him, poor thing! His light show thing stopped working so I was routing around for a screwdriver and some batteries! Sooooo tired now though and really can't face a day of work. I also feel terrible as I have to wake Ds up in 10 mins and get him ready. He is not going to be happy!
I managed to survive coat wise last time around as it was only the last 2 weeks that I couldn't do it up for... Feeling huge this time already though (I'm not, but I'm not braising the growing bump very well which makes me terrible for saying but it's really getting to me) bump is however seemingly very happy kicking and moving around!
Hope everyone has a good week at work.
23+1 (only about 17 wks to go.... Arghhhh)

Saraswati · 08/09/2014 09:54

I'm not bothering about a coat I don't think, last winter I hardly wore my coat as it was quite mild so unless we get a real cold snap I'm just going to layer up and make do with what I've got. I have been eyeing up 'mum' coats though, I need a practical coat for walking with the baby with a hood in case it rains as I know I won't be able to push a pram and walk the dogs with an umbrella to contend with. I have seen a cool parka thing that I think I'll just buy in a size bigger than my usual size and pray that it fits after the birth, can always just not do it up for a few weeks ;)

I ended up at the maternity assessment unit on friday night, had a bit of a scary episode of strong period type pains. They checked me over and couldn't find a cause so sent me home with some paracetamol (I'm allergic to codeine so can't have anything stronger in pregnancy!). It's still painful now but manageable, they said it was probably stretching from growth so I hope it calms down soon. They checked my fundal height which I haven't had done before and it was 24cm so bang on for my dates which is good.

I have my 25 week appointment today, in my area its with the gp. Not sure what they do, I think its just a general check over, anyone else have their 25 week with the gp? I'm going a bit early as I'm away for work next week when I will be 25 weeks.

24+3

cheshirem2b · 08/09/2014 10:28

Sara I hope you're ok and the pain eases soon!
my 25 week appointment is 2 weeks today when I'm 25+4 & is with the midwife. Haven't seen my gp at all but saw dr at my antenatal clinic 2 weeks ago.

I'm exhausted today! I napped yesterday afternoon/evening after a busy (ish) weekend and got an early night. Have gone to Court for work and been told I look peaky... ah well! I was planning to go home after work and nap a lot but DH is working this evening so I'm on cooking duty this evening... Or its takeaway! It's going to be a very looooong day!

KateTheHuman · 08/09/2014 10:50

Good morning girlies!!! Hope everyone is ok today! Today is day 1 of Operation Stop Eating Cake! So far I don't seem to be as hungry as last week so maybe mind over matter is working. I'm gonna buy some fish and veggies for dinner this week. I feel very purposeful. Yay!

13 more Mondays of work to go!

23+4

EmmaJan2015 · 08/09/2014 14:44

Ooooh Sara, glad you're ok.

Kate, I have been craving all sorts of sweet stuff in the last 2 weeks. Snickers are currently my favourite naughty food. I had a little, ahem, moment over the weekend when my husband ate 'my' snickers which was in the biscuit barrel. It was quite a little tantrum. Anyone seen that episode of Friends when someone eats Ross' sandwich? Blush

We get a veg box delivered every Monday so we have loads of nice healthy veg to plough through for the next 5 days. Shame i'm not craving any of that though.

I think i've felt loads of movement today. I've been assuming all these particular feelings recently were my skin stretching but now i'm not so sure. It feels like little zaps which are very faint and tickle slightly. The thing is, I can feel them in all sorts of places all over my stomach which is why I thought it was something else e.g. on both sides of the bump, although not at the same time.

I'm trying not to panic/worry about my 20 week scan on Weds. It doesn't help that I read an article in Red magazine this morning about a woman who went for her 20 wk scan and found out the baby had died Sad. Or that I had a dream last night where I went for the scan and asked whether it was a boy or girl, and was told it was a baby monkey in there Confused

Positive thinking for two days now!

19+5

KateTheHuman · 08/09/2014 15:09

Hahaha Emma! I remember that episode!!! I'd so be like that if my DH had finished off my cheesecake! Veg box sounds great!

Most of my baby feels are like twitches. To the left and the right, none at the front due to silly placenta. But on Friday I actually saw my top move slightly! So freaky but amazing!

Aww baby monkey!! Good luck for you scan!!! I'm sure it'll be fine! Especially if you're feeling tickles!

In other new... when did we get a Tardis smiley??? Love you mumsnet!!!
