KateTheHuman · 30/08/2014 12:48

I'm having a sad today. Feel like all my baby ideas are being rubbished by hubby and mum. I'm just gonna run off with bub hee.

What is everyone doing for sleeping arrangements when baby is born?

cheshirem2b · 30/08/2014 12:50

Kate baby is sleeping in snuzpod in our room - got to move a bit of furniture but we'll make it fit!
tell them to leave your plans alone. Don't let them interfere.

KateTheHuman · 30/08/2014 13:03

I've wanted to rent the bednest for ages and that was my plan. Mum flat out said no. You don't want that. I know it's nothing to do with her but it's just annoying. I said you're supposed to sleep in the same room as them and she said just get a monitor. And no amount of explaining would change her mind. So I don't think I'll be discussing any plans with her again.

Loobyloo893 · 30/08/2014 13:21

We've got a rocking crib for baby, he'll be in our room until he outgrows it. We had DS in our room until four months and only moved him then as he needed more room and the cot wouldn't fit in our room. I remember my mum saying it was strange that he was in our room for so long when me and my sis were in our own rooms as soon as we started sleeping most of the night (about 6weeks).
You just have to try and do what's right for u and baby.

blizy · 30/08/2014 13:32

Kate, I would just ignore your mum. This is your and dh's baby, she had her chance to choose baby items with you.
We are getting a snuzpod too, baby will be in room with us for the first 6 months at least.

I felt my first proper kick during the week, totally took me by surprise, Bob has some left foot already!

Thank you guys! Xx

Yay for first kicks!!

RPopz · 30/08/2014 14:43

We've rented the bednest Kate! Go for it!! It's nothing to do with anyone else. We're getting a cot and will move baby when he's big enough or at 6 months... whichever comes first! It's a good deal, will last longer than a Moses basket etc and it won't be cluttering your house up when you don't need it anymore!! You need to prepare yourself for 18 years of this sort of thing I think.... I am Wink

Dec2013mummy · 30/08/2014 15:24

I agree with everyone else. You do what's right for you and sod everyone else. Ds was in our room until 6 months and still has his monitor and sensor pad on now at almost 9 months. People say it's overkill... I say I'm happy, Ds is happy so sod off Grin have got so used to ignoring people opinions. I don't bother to argue, just smile and nod and then do whatever I like!!
I'm back at work on Monday after maternity! Scared... So don't want to go back as I don't exactly love where I work but I do love my job. I think ok just going to feel like a spare part for the short time I'm back as well. Ah well!!

KateTheHuman · 30/08/2014 15:30

I think I'm gonna be smiling and nodding a lot! Hee

Nyancat · 30/08/2014 18:33

Dec I win dd still has her sensor monitor on her bed at 2.5! she's started sneaking out of bed once I go downstairs at night and I like to know what she's at! Grin it also gives me a bit of warning before she appears in my bed at 4am.

Keepontrudging · 30/08/2014 18:44

kate- smile and nod is always the way with the mil ;)

just wanted to say hi on here as I seem to be using fb only lately. HI!!

Dec2013mummy · 30/08/2014 19:55

nyancat that's brilliant!! I may have to steal that idea but then I'll potentially have two going off and not know who's it is! Grin

JonesSchool · 30/08/2014 22:57

Please can I join, had our 20 week scan today and all was good. Spent this morning shaking and not eating, after two miscarriages getting to 20 weeks feels great. Even had a sneaky look at babygrows today. Now I need to try and find nice short maternity trousers, any ideas, all the ones I have tried have been made for giants.
Sorry another question, how do I join the Facebook group?

Hi jonesSchool
Glad your 20week scan went well especially after previous losses.

I'm short and I've got my maternity trousers from new look online
Really good fit- both length and width!

Dh is snoring away, I'm awake with rib and chest pains... Grr

22 weeks today! : )

Roserouge · 30/08/2014 23:39

Hi everyone, just wanted to say hello smile
Not a big poster but I read the posts on the thread daily. Lovely seeing scan pictures, making me look forward to mine but not for another few weeks yet.
Have been feeling lots more movement but not very consistent with a time of day or linked to a particular food so I can't get anyone else to feel it. Is this generally what it's like to begin with?
I also just ordered maternity jeans from new look jonesSchool as the elastic band trick isn't best hidden underneath everything I want to wear!

Roserouge · 30/08/2014 23:40

Oops the bold smile was meant to be a Smile! Shows how long its been since I've posted!

Hi all...up in the night again! DS has woken with a croupy sounding cough and is taking ages to settle poor little mite.

KatetheHuman how are you feeling today, lovely? Toothache improving? You will find (have found?!) that the world and his wife have an opinion on what you're planning on doing with your baby. Nod and smile. One of the reasons for having baby in your room to start with is to help them regulate their breathing - they hear yours and it helps with theirs after 8 months of not really doing the breathing thing. That doesn't happen over a monitor! There's plenty of time for the baby to learn independence and the first 6 months is probably not the best time! I'm of the opinion that my job as a parent involves giving my child 2 really important things - roots and wings. Wings come later but the early days are all about the roots.

Arthur (bump) is being massively wriggly a lot of the time. I hope this is not indicative of future behaviour. We already had a non-napping baby thank you - don't want another one!

We must get packing for holiday tomorrow (Sunday which I suppose is technically today now) - flying on Wednesday and haven't done anything. I was going to do some yesterday but really couldn't be bothered and instead just lounged on the sofa.

Right. Going to try to get some sleep now. Night Smile

Baby will be in with us for at least first 6 months and probably in dd's crib. Makes it much easier for bf if they are in same room, plus greatly reduces SIDS risk. Ignore your mum as she may have old fashioned ideas about raising children and science has moved on.

KateTheHuman · 31/08/2014 08:19

Good morning chinese! I'm feeling a lot better thank you! Tooth has taken this long for pain to go and I've only got one tablet left. Bit scared pain is gonna come back aftrrwards.

You lot have def given me the confidence to stick to my guns as far as baby planning goes. I feel a lot calmer today so thank you! :-)

Roots & wings. I love that. Smile

Saraswati · 31/08/2014 10:06

Roots and wings, what a great phrase! Good on ya kate stick to your guns! I keep on getting 'helpful' advice from various people who then make a face when I say how I want to do things! You made the baby, raise it how you like, don't let anyone take that away from you!

23+2 :)

What a fabulous parenting mantra Chinese - I love it Smile
