Hello all

Was on previous threads but think I have missed last two! Great news on all scans.

I was 19wks yesterday and had my first consultant appt (geriatric first time mother). It took a while to find the heartbeat as placenta is apparently at the front - my head was turned to the wall for a while - but then it appeared; very strong YAY. Scan is week after next.

Have booked NCT classes but will miss the first one as I have to be in London overnight (D'oh) - does anyone know if this will be a problem?

Have bought nothing yet apart from a few maternity clothes - like others my bump has suddenly pushed out this week. We are trying to buy everything pre-loved apart from car seat and cot mattress obv so hope to pick it all up over the course of the next few months. Unf due to being such an old bird most of my peers have long disposed of their baby items so it's nearly new sales and eBay for us. I am hoping my lovely WI group will come up with a few items too - I'm the youngest member at 42 and I don't think there has been a baby for a good few decades!

If any of you are struggling with nightwear I made a spectacular purchase in lidl yesterday - beautifully soft pjs in modal fabric; cream top and grey harem style pants. V soft waistband. At 7.99 a mega bargain so I am off to buy another pair today - the pants will work for yoga/slob bing out too.

Chinese I didn't even know I had a brother til yesterday!!!

I feel totally hungover today. My head hurts and I feel mentally exhausted! Being pregnant is emotional enough!

Wow kate !

EmmaJan2015 · 23/08/2014 08:59

Gosh, Kate how exciting! A lot to take in though i'm sure.

Jobrum...no actual migraines for me but lots of headaches. None terrible but the kind that linger all day on and off. I seem to have some bad weeks when I have lots and then nothing for a week or two.

It was lovely telling our parents last night. My mum cried for ages. She's just stopped by with a card and started crying again...said she'd barely slept with excitement. I think she's pleased ;-)

KateTheHuman · 23/08/2014 09:15

Aww Emma that's wonderfulness! Happy parents then!

Keepontrudging · 23/08/2014 10:22

Lovely :) Emma. We are off to party today, flos friend is 2 and Florence has to dress as a princess. I shall put her pic on the 115 bus as requeSted!

Re: headaches-I went to docs for something stronger for mine, no such luck though I was told :/ I has an awful one today- they really are debilitating. Lots of Paracetomal and a hot shower help- oh and flo napping! She was up at 5 this morn so no chance of relaxing for me!

I have been reading up on this fluid around babies heart and apparantly when it's only a little rest is the best thing for it. (As it can be a sign of an overworked placenta due to run down mother- which I certainly have been, think I have another coldsore en route ) Anyway! Scott has had his orders and is going to be looking after me more- he can get up with flo tomorrow :)

HenriettaTurkey · 23/08/2014 11:05

Keepon: I was told codeine in limited quantities was ok for my hip. I've not actually taken any, but I would if pain was intolerable. Would that work for headache?

HenriettaTurkey · 23/08/2014 11:06

....having said that, I've had pregnancy headaches and the only thing that's worked for me is pre-emoting with pints and pints of water, and lots of sleep...

Keepontrudging · 23/08/2014 11:09

Thanks for the codeine and water tip. I may have to buy some as a back up in case I have another really severe one. I tend to drink 2 litres of water a day. As for sleep... That's difficult giving I have a one year old who isn't a fan of it, ha!

ViviPru · 23/08/2014 14:51

Hi Bohemond, nice to have you back on the thread, those Lidl PJs sound great.

Chinese, I'm with you on the autumn tingles; I adore changing seasons and it definitely feels imminent. And super-exciting when the onset of winter means the babies are coming!

RPopz · 23/08/2014 16:10

Definitely feeling very autumnal! Took the dog for a walk without getting a sweat on!! Wink And the woods where we walk are looking more brown and orange again instead of lush and green. Someone said to me today: "wow this year is going so fast!" And I thought bloody hell it is... and we'll all have babies at the end of it!Grin

I hate summer and love autumn rpopz . Very glad to be having a baby in the middle of winter rather than the middle of summer Grin

cheshirem2b · 23/08/2014 20:15

We've ordered our pram! Uppababy vista in "drew" orange! So excited! There was a family in the store when we went who had their 8 week old in the shop and they said it's the best decision they ever made so I'm really pleased. It will be ready to collect from 1/12/14 unless we contact them to get it earlier. hurray!

ChineseFireball · 23/08/2014 21:25

Goodness, Kate what a shock!

I've just done a hormonal rant. Someone I'm friends with on FB posted a cartoon of a man & woman sitting in a car with the caption "new seatbelt design. x% less road accidents" (can't remember the number) and the woman has a seatbelt across her mouth. I pulled them up on the sexism. I normally wouldn't fuss on FB because I CBA with drama and arguments where everyone can see them - would rather speak to someone in person iyswim but i just got RAGE. And I was so angry I didn't even put my pedant hat on and point out it should be "fewer" rather than "less"...

Re headaches and migraines, I was reassured by a couple of doctors that codeine is safe to take infrequently as the risk is addiction and overuse which will then affect the foetus and baby if taken right up to birth, it will not cause any harm to the foetus whilst pregnant. I also have been given the go-ahead to continue taking Sumpatriptan specifically for the migraines, and - although I've only done this once or twice - Ibruprofen as long as I don't continue it into the third trimester. If they continue with no relief (the acupuncture is some kind of witchcraft miracle!) I can be referred to a specialist where there are options like beta-blockers but I really do want to avoid this.

Keepontrudging - try seeing a different doctor at the surgery if you can, that's what I did. They won't prescribe anything dangerous so you shouldn't be concerned about trying to get a second opinion.

I love Autumn! We will all be able to wear lovely jumper dresses rather than suffer trying to find anything to wear in summer that doesn't show sticky sweat marks!

Keepontrudging · 24/08/2014 07:00

Thanks jobrum. After that headache yesterday I will be going back for some codeine. I don't like taking it personally, but if it's absolutely necessary I will! Thanks for the advice. I hope your migraines resolve c

Hi peeps!
Welcome ralv and omg kate that is just crazy news, what an amazing time for you! Hey Bohemond welcome back and glad everything is ok!

Still no idea on prams. This is going to be a tough decision . My friend has the vista chinese and has been really happy with it, but I'm quite short and maybe looking for something more compact that is easier for me to manoeuvre. Also we have 4/5 steps up to our front door to consider- Any suggestions? (Of course this might be because my mate packs the entire world into her vista before leaving the house)Wink

Aloha all!

Yes to autumn! Autumn means winter, and winter means BABIES! Grin

Autumn also means not feeling so godforsaken HOT all the time, my word. I'm feeling quite excited now about my wardrobe of autumn/winter maternity wear. Can't wait to really get into some of them. Though, I do need some tights. Good recommendations for maternity tights, anyone?

I am feeling absolutely shattered today after all the last week's wonderful excitement of scans and birthdays and parties and lots of visits with friends. It was all brilliant, but now all I want is to sit in the bath but the boiler's broken and I'm too tired and pregnant to cope with this. < cries weakly >

jobrum · 24/08/2014 12:37

Ooo, yes, I'd love some maternity tights recommendations. I have a couple of pairs of black opaques I've been wearing this week which I tried wearing over my bump which will do for another week or so I think, and also pushing down at the front but this isn't really a long term solution! I'm quite tempted to get some hold ups as well.

Is it just me that keeps looking at lots of clothes they won't be able to just buy and wear anymore? I know maternity wear has some a long way since the tartan tents my mother wore in the 80's but still. It feels a bit selfish and unimportant really but I think it's another of those changes to my life that's slowly dawning on me!

jobrum · 24/08/2014 12:41

Oh no, rumisyum (and I totally agree with your name!) a broken boiler is terrible. You could try substituting with curling up on the sofa with a film and a hot chocolate? Always works for me.

ilovelamp78 · 24/08/2014 15:59

Thanks mad, both of those models look pretty smart, will have to have a play in the shop. I know someone with the bee and I do like how compact it is .

cheshirem2b · 24/08/2014 18:17

The vista was great yesterday but to get it in my boot (vw polo) you have to click the rear wheels off or remove the false boot cover to expand the boot apparently. However dh car is an estate so anything fits! Have fun pram shopping!
Think we've found our cot bed as well. I really wanted a sliegh bed design but they are very expensive... But found some online much better price so might be ordering that soon! yay!

rumisyum · 24/08/2014 18:47

jobrum I had a massive sartorial crisis a couple weeks ago, that I eventually worked out was about imminent motherhood/my changing identity, so I feel you with the looking longingly at autumnal non-mat wear! It's amazing to be pregnant, but there sure as heck is a lot to get your head round.

Just after my previous woe-is-me-no-boiler post the husband came back & it took him all of 2 minutes to work out what was broken & fix it. Good to be reminded that this one's a keeper. And a nice luxurious bath is ahead for me. Grin

Spent the morning whinging about how out of control my thighs are and the afternoon at a food festival. Contrary much? Wink
