Really pleased for your results eidsvold !

Piffle - glad your births have been pain free ... let us know your secrets !!

I have had a headache since last night... have tried everything to get rid of it (including a special injection to no avail

Hope everyone else is having a good day .

kittywits · 29/09/2006 11:41

divastrop · 29/09/2006 12:16

happy birthday kitty!i didnt see ur post till after i posted last time.have a good day

leogaela · 29/09/2006 12:37

Lol Aime, i had the same feeling when i was pregnant with DS and was absolutely adamant that i didn't want a bald baby, when ds was born i was absolutely thrilled that he had a beautiful head of lovely dark hair , from that point on i have been really really happy that he was born with hair.

I think the whole idea of something living and growing inside me is really wierd, less wierd this time than with ds, but more wierd because there is 2!

Oh, happy birthday Kitty!

Twins 16+3

Booboobedoo · 29/09/2006 12:45

Had a midwife appt. too this morning. Didn't have to wait long, and the heartbeat was good and strong (148 bpm). I'm carrying quite low at the moment, but apparently that's quite normal for this stage.

The only thing is I've got a low white blood count. It was spotted a couple of years ago, and I had to have nasty things like a bone-marrow check (v. painful), but they don't know why it is. Got to see the obstetrician, but I shouldn't think it'll affect the pregnancy.

Amie: hope your gran is ok. lol at the cheating at cards - it's a vital life-skill.

Onilly: I know what you mean about the fear of pain. I suppose it's fear of the unknown for us, isn't it? I used to think that I'd want every drug going, but my doc friend talked me through all the pros and cons, and now I just think I want to keep an open mind, see what happens in my labour and try to RELAX. Hah.

They've got 3 birthing pools at Kings, so I'm hoping to be able to use one of those (although I don't think I actually want to give birth in one).

Eidsvold: I'm so glad to hear your results: was thinking about you last night.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KITTY!

LaidbackinAsia · 29/09/2006 13:05

Happy Birthyday Kitty !

dollyp · 29/09/2006 13:41

Good afternooon

Amie, I am very sorry about your grandmother. Hope she is going to be OK.

Eidsvold - great news! Well done!

Happy birthday to you, Kitty . Hope you get a chance to have a bit of a rest and have the family make a big fuss of you.

So much to catch up on ! Here goes. We do have a cleaner here, and frankly we'd be lost without one. The house degenerates into a slum by Friday, then the wonderful Sacha comes round and makes it lovely again. I decided once DH and I got together that as we both worked full time, I didn't want to spend time at the weekend cleaning and would rather spend the £££ on a cleaner than on something else. Since having DD and dropping days at work, I'd rather spend time with her than with my arms in the loo pan . The likelihood of DH willingly cleaning anthing is up there with flying pigs. It is a luxury for us though.

Birth - hm. Not really looking forward to that. I was induced and was begging for an epidural after about 10 hours (by which time I was, ooh, 0.5cm dilated!) They said I had to get to 3 cm and broke my waters at about 2cm which made everything speed up. Suffice it to say I got to 3cm at 4.30pm and got my epi at 7.30pm. Absolutely awful 3 hours, but we got through it in the end. DD got distressed though once the syntocinon was increased to strengthen the contractions so I had a trial of forceps (ouch) and an em CS. The forceps bit was quite funny. I had been numbed up to the boobs for the CS as if the forceps didn't work they had to do the CS immediately. I was told that when they said "go" I had to push as if I was doing a huge poo. Sadly, I couldn't feel a sodding thing so when I got the word, I just made a face as if I was having the poo! No wonder it didn't work. The CS came as a blessed relief.

I hope none of the first time ladies are put off by this. She was just too big for my pelvis (9lb 13 and in a strange position) so I'd never have got her out. My CS was a joy, I BF in recovery and was out of bed the same day. Went downstairs to the hospital shop the next day as the food was so shocking and I'd eaten the rations DH bought in the day before. My main problem was being knackered as I'd missed 2 nights sleep but that would have been the case if I'd had her vaginally.

Drugs - I thought G and A was marvellous (like being a bit pissed and spaced out), TENS machine was vile, epidural fabby, even though it was only a partial block til theatre as it didn't take properly. There is no pethidine as St Thomas's because of the problems with it crossing the placenta, otherwise I'd have had that as well . I have 2 friends who did hypnobirthing and said it was fab. I was very scared of the pain, but as others have said, if you keep an open mind and find out as much as possible before labour, you'll be grand.

Oh, and as for making a noise.... when I was first induced, I was walking around to get things going and could hear all these women in pain. I stupidly thought I would be calm and not need to make that much noise. When my time came, not only did I swear, scream and shout, but I also mooed and the whole thing was amplified as I had the G and A mouthpiece in my mouth and it enhanced the sound! I think it's a bit like pooing in labour - in the cold light of day, beforehand, you think you would be mortified but when you are up and running you really don't have time to think about it!

Hope you are all well.

14w 5 days (I think)

dollyp · 29/09/2006 13:42

Bloody hell, that's really long . Sorry about that. Medals for anyone who got to the end of my rambling.

AmieR · 29/09/2006 14:01

When I was at the hospital last night, the ward my Grandmother is on is the next one up fromt he maternityh section of the hospital. All I saw at times when I wasn't visiting were lots of men pacing around and the odd woman with huge bumps concentrating very hard on something, I imagine they were counting in their heads. I then turned to my DH who was noticing the same thing but with a really "OMG thats gonna be us" look on his face!

Thanks for the Medal Dolly! I found it a very interesting read!

divastrop · 29/09/2006 14:02

i read it all dolly!it doesnt sound like fun.my first was truly awful, though, and i would advise anybody to make a birth plan and stick to it as much as u can.
mooing?i was hallucinating off the diamorphine with ds1 and shouting some very strange things, such as 'no,not the beetle!'.ED's are not available for normal deliveries where i live.

Booboobedoo · 29/09/2006 14:57

Dolly! Both wincing in sympathy and PMSL at your birth story. (It was the bit about making a poo-face that made me laugh. That's so sweet - talk about showing willing).

TBH, the more detailed birth stories I hear, the better I feel. Possibly perverse of me, but they make me realise that I may well not get the birth I want or have loads of control, and that I'll just have to relax and go with it.

When we meet in Mimosa I'll have to try and let go of those images.

dollyp · 29/09/2006 15:02

I found that hearing tales from the labour ward made me much calmer too - the main thing is to get a healthy baby with as little damage to yourself as possible (in terms of tears etc) and the overwhelming majority of women do!

annaspanna · 29/09/2006 15:04

Hi all.
Happy Bithday Kittywits!!!

Sorry to Amie for your Gran but glad it's looking a little better.

I don't have a cleaner. Can't afford & i'd be the one to have to clean before the cleaner comes anyway. I'm fiercly independant about such things but i have to confess i struggle to manange the work home juggle.

Childbirth. Well. It took me at least 5 months to stop having flashbacks from the trauma. Had 24hrs established labour. Arrived at hosp which very high BP so could not have waterbirth i wanted. For 12 hours of labour i coped really well by focusing. But then waters broke with a pop filled with meconium & they gave me G&A cus i needed to push which made me lose an hour of time. I was only 2 cm tho & I was screaming "help" apparently but i can only remember being told to stay very still while they put epidural in an hour later Which incidently didn't work properly but defo took the edge off the pain on one side. Ended up having emergency CS for fetal distress 12 hrs later. CS itself was a doddle. My mate tho was traumatised by hers but that was planned so i think you've got more time to stress over it. I suffered a lot of pain afterwards from scar even months after.i would like to try natural this time again despite the labour pain. But i'm scared of gas & air now?? Anyone else felt like they'd been unconcious on it?

Sorry for the graphics & to the first timers look I'm having another so it cant be that bad can it. My aforesaid mate thinks I'm mad. She hated it from start t finish. I see it as only a couple of months out of my life & hopefully only a day of severe pain for a lifetime of joys. Nothing good comes easy!!

Phew i really can bang on - Sorry. As Dolly would say Medal no 2 for sticking with me.

Keep getting stitch like pains when i cough or stand up quickly. On the left side & sometimes on the right as well. Should i be worried?
15 Weeks today

kittywits · 29/09/2006 16:39

Anna, I get stitch like pains for those reasons too and if I sneeze sitting down I need to bring my legs up to stop any strain on my stomach. I remember it happening in all my pregs.
Not such a good birth story Anna. I shan't bore you with all of mine. If you read through those you'd need the george cross, not just a medal!!
I always thought G&A didn't suit me as I'd felt rerally sick on it during my first labour.
I didn't use anything at all for the 1st two vbacs but for the third tried some for about half an hour. I found it did give me something to focus on and helped me to relax during contactions. Clara was punching/ pushing on my bladder all the way during labour, so even between contactions the pain was pretty terrible. I found G&A annoyed me when the pain got really bad and I threw it to one side.
I don't want to think about that now. I remember it so vividly still from last time.
Actually I find the pushing painless, it's the last couple of contractions before the 2nd stage that really get to me.

AmieR · 29/09/2006 16:43

Can I just say how helpful this site/thread is, I'm so glad my friend recommended it to me, there's only so much you can learn from reading books, but hearing things from mothers is the business. I've asked my Mother but she says "its been a while" so to have you guys who have had children more recently, its a pure god send! And to be able to talk to first timers too is great!

I do need to check up the labour parts of my books, I've kinda skirted round them so far!

divastrop · 29/09/2006 17:44

kitty-im having the same problem.ds2 was so easy cos it was 4.5 yrs since i'd given birth and the 1st 2 were so awful his birth seemed brilliant in comparison!
for me the whole first stage was pretty easy with ds and dd2,it was the pushing that hurt(dunno why cos i would have thought it would be like the channel tunnel down there now).the G+A annoyed me in the 2nd stage.i couldnt be bothered with it.i just thought it helped in the first stage.

spongecake · 29/09/2006 18:28

TheBlonde · 29/09/2006 18:42

Welcome spongecake

AmieR · 29/09/2006 18:49

Welcome SpongeCake!

I've hardly ever seen my midwife, so maybe I'm not the best person to give you advice on this, as this is also my first pregnancy I'm unable to use any past experiences!

I'm sure someone here will help!
