hey new mum to be for the first time baby due 14th feb 2007

novadandypowder · 28/09/2006 20:07

evenin' all

sorry to hear about your poorly Gran hugs

re. cleaner: we have one, DH had one before I met him and we've had one ever since. I do keep a pretty tight ship but she comes in twice a week to do a thorough clean up, and the best thing of all is that she does the ironing!! I would rather go through pregnancy than iron . I do the laundry though, feel a bit funny about someone else sorting my dirty undies

Becs are we really that much nicer than the feb thread? We seem to have highjacked a few of you.

I had a mobile epi and it was fab, it got me from 6cms to transition. I did the rest pain relief free as I hated gas and air. Was a bit gutted to have to have a spine block after the birth to get my retained placenta out though.

Becs21, you need the 'due feb 2007' thread!

divastrop · 28/09/2006 20:25

sorry to hear that amie, has she been ill for a while?my grandad (also 86) was hospitalised with that when ds2 was a few months old but he pulled through it.he passed away 2 months later,i suppose it was just his time to go.hope ur ok x

booboo-i dont think its spd,ive never had that before.its eased off a bit now so it was prob just the baby having a growth spurt and my joints are getting worn out now.

onilly- i am lucky to never have had a c-section,so i cant comment on that, but i was warned by many that the contractions you get when ur induced with the syntocin(?)drip are more painful than natural ones, and as a result i was pumped full of drugs in my first 2 labours.but the last 2 were fine because i wasnt pumped full of drugs and realised i was in control to an extent.the only pain i got with dd2 was when i was pushing TBH.
also,ds and dd1 both needed oxygen when they were born cos the drugs were in their systems and they were too sleepy to breathe.ds and dd2 cried as soon as they were born and got placed on my tummy, which made so much difference.even though dd2 looked at me as if to say'and who the hell are you??'

onilly · 28/09/2006 21:05

oookay.... seems I still need to do my research on this, Diva, did not realise kiddo's got the drugs too, but du-oh of course it makes sense.

I sort of was joking, about C-section, bit like the celebs are 'too posh to push' - clearly c-section is given for certain reasons to us lot - you have sussed me though - am really truly terrified of the labour thing.... and am a wuss when it comes to pain, and am painfully embarressed of making a complete tit of myself when I scream the place down!

Aime - sorry about your gran

divastrop · 28/09/2006 21:15

nobody told me the drugs would affect the baby either.i bf ds1 for 5 weeks but it was a nightmare cos he was asleep for the first 4 days and couldnt be bothered to suck so we just never got it right.
of course,i didnt even know the internet existed back then,i just had a lentil-weaver pregnancy book which said everybody should have a home water birth with aromatherapy candles dotted around the room, which isnt an option when u have pre-eclampsia
but i wish i'd looked into it more because with both of them the m/w's insisted i must have drugs with the syntocin drip.

fatfox · 28/09/2006 21:20

Aime - so sorry to hear about your Gran. I hope she pulls through

fatfox · 28/09/2006 21:26

I had gas & air and pethidine when birthing DS and would warn anyone against pethidine if they want to breast feed, as it gets into baby's blood stream and can make them very dopey for a couple of days, meaning they can't suckle properly. It also does nothing to reduce the pain, just makes you very sleepy.

I had mobile epidural for DD, as she was being induced anyway (waters had broken a day and a half before and no sign of labour). The mobile epi was fantastic. I could feel enough to push, but no pain. Felt fabulous afterwards and she was really alert when born, latched on straight away etc.

I love the idea of a drug free birth, but it just hurts too much

AmieR · 28/09/2006 21:29

Got back from Hospital, Gran's blood pressure is getting back up, needing oxygen to breathe and her chest sounds thick with nasty stuff, but she's better than she went in. Apparently the doctor didn't think there was anything wrong with her on tuesday when he saw her. So hopefully there will be more good developments tomorrow.

Feeling drained now a bit.

My Mum had to have my brother and myself by CS as her Cirvix didn't dilate properly. She was unable to see her children for about a few hours afterwards, but I believe this has changed over the years.

How many people do have elective C-Sections? I was just thought I rad about them in Heat only when someone was to Posh to Push!

kittywits · 28/09/2006 21:54

Amie, glad your gran is perking up, fingers crossed

Becks, you're welcome to hang around here

kiwibella · 28/09/2006 21:56

((hugs)) Amie... hope your Gran does well during the night.

TheBlonde · 28/09/2006 22:12

Fatfox - I had pethidine with DS, no other option available and I did get 2 hours sleep. DS was very groggy as a result.

I'm thinking of trying hypnobirthing this time

kittywits · 28/09/2006 22:14

I tried a bit of diy hypnobirthing ( I bought the books and cd's).
I think the course would work better. You need a trained birth partner to make it work I think.

TheBlonde · 28/09/2006 22:19

I have dates for a course locally, just need time to discuss with DH. Hopefully he can be trained

We went to a yoga birth rehearsal workshop last time

Rosylily · 28/09/2006 23:08

Ithink I naturally go into a bit of a trance in labour. So when I tried a tens machine I couldn't stand it niggling me and tore it off straight away.anyone else try tens? It's supposed to be good...
I cope fine by focusing totally on the contraction, breathing and going with it. Mother nature is not so cruel and our body seems to come up with a few goodies to help us. I totally agree about the euphoria afterwards.
I am now thinking twice about the drugs thing maybe I will find the courage to do it naturally again.

I am so glad I am not the only one struggling with the housework. I really admire you guys who are busy working aswell at the moment.
I was an instore cleaner in my youth for a while. Its not a bad job to do. So I reckon anyone being a cleaner most likely enjoys their work and we shouldn't feel guilty if we can find the funds. After all a pregnant woman should definately be resting ALOT.
I also find that my uselessness brings the best out in the people around me. And as my Dad says to me I am here in this world to make other people feel better about themselves!

anniediv · 28/09/2006 23:09

I tried TENS with dd1 and 3, I think it just gave me something mildly annoying to focus on. Couldn't say if it helped or not really.

TheBlonde · 28/09/2006 23:10

I had a tens machine on for about 16 hours!!

TheBlonde · 28/09/2006 23:10

I found it definitely helped

Right it is late, must go to bed

anniediv · 28/09/2006 23:12

night night blonde, me too [yawn emoticon]

eidsvold · 28/09/2006 23:25

no cleaner here BUT the house was a bit of a state- more messy than grubby. Had a friend over the othjer day so I tidied where I knew she would go - bathroom, loo, kitchen, lounge.

Downstairs - playroom - desperately needs a hoover so will do that another day.

Despite being exhausted - worked out that just doing a bit at a time helps. Dh also helps too - doing his share BUT he is away until next Friday.

eidsvold · 29/09/2006 01:29

forgot to add - got my NTS results back today.

Started with a ration of 1 in 58 chance of having another child with down syndrome. Ratio is now - 1 in 969. ( same as that of a 26yo) pretty good for a 38yo who already has a child with down syndrome.

14 weeks today

Rosylily · 29/09/2006 09:44

Eidsvold great news! No tests for me, it suits me to have my head firmly in the sand about the whole thing!

My Dh is leaving today- be back in about 10 days hopefully but I'm used to it because he lives and works 300miles away.
Yes I am trying to do a bit at a time but the mess seems to multiply alot at a time in my house!
It is annoying me though. Oh well.

leogaela · 29/09/2006 09:44

Hi all,
Hope everyone is feeling well today. Strange that yesterday I felt better than i have since I was first pregnant! I even had the energy to fold and put washing away last night.

Aime, sorry to hear about your Gran. hope she is doing OK today.

Eidsvold - Great news !

As for a cleaner, we have one 3 hours a week to do the basics, her job is cleaning though not tidying so we do that the night before. Don't knowhow we would ever get around to doing any cleaning if we didn't have her. I really recommend it, better spend the time doing worthwhile stuff than cleaning.

As for c-sections vs natural birht. I had a c-section with ds i was in so much pain (despite being given loads of pain drugs including morphine) that i couldn't stand for long enough to change ds's nappy for the first 4 days after he was born . It was devastating for me to watch the other mums up and walking around with their babies not long after they had given birth while i still needed 2 nurses to help me out of bed ot go and have a pee. It was emergency, but i had only just started having contractions so wasn't exhausted after hours of labour.

divastrop · 29/09/2006 10:25

thats good news eidsvold

i would agree with rosy on the labour thing.when i was having dd2 i was very focused and found myself rocking from side to side.the mw told me after that i must have been very in tune wuth my body as dd2 was turned to the side and my rocking got her into the right position to be born.i had pethadine with dd1 it just made me tired and narky.

i have a mw appt in 20 mins so i better go.

16+2

Piffle · 29/09/2006 10:27

Aime glad your gran is doing ok.

Ahhh birth - mine were fast, easy and relatively pain free - hoping for the 3rd one to be same as I intend to have a home birth.
I did use gas and air with dd (2nd birth) but nothing with ds - the stamina of youth - I was 23
If anything I found the G+A gave me focus on my breathing.
I know I am very lucky with my births though...
