Amie, we haven't thought of names, as we picked all our favourites for first and middle names for the dds never in a million years thinking we'd need to 'save' a couple!

We are also in the 'don't want to know gender' camp, but with dd3 I had to have a 'detailed' scan at 20 weeks, and asked because if dd3 had been a boy I could have got rid of a houseful of girlie clothes!

Despite the radiographer knowing 100% they don't like to say here, so she said "I can see nothing to suggest it's a boy"!!

leogaela · 27/09/2006 13:12

We had a really tough time finding a name for ds. We were very fixed on a girls name but had no idea for a boy. In Switzerland you have to register the name within 3 days of the birth, dh came up with Niklas very close to the deadline! The name really suits him, but I HATE it when people call him Niklaus (as they do quite often here) or Nicholas.

Naming twins... oh dear, where do we start!

divastrop · 27/09/2006 13:30

s**t,i should really preview my posts my 7 yr old is called megan,i was telling amieR that i dont have girly girls.she (megan)saw a ghost when she was 2.5 and she can 'feel' if theres a presence sometimes?!
megan was just called that because its what ds1 was going to be called if he was a girl.thats kind of lazy of me,really.
i didnt tell anybody the name id picked when i was pg with Gloria cos i thought ppl would laugh and i would change my mind.

AmieR · 27/09/2006 13:33

Luckily my DH's family has a tradition if its a boy.. he will have his fathers Christian name as his middle name.. so if we have a DS his name will be Something Samuel Reynolds.

If we have a Daughter, we have agreed that the middle name will be Grace as 3 out of our 4 grandmothers name was/is Grace...

but first names... not a clue!

shanks313 · 27/09/2006 13:37

We have decided that when I have the 20 week scan in 2 weeks time,we want to know the sex, mainly so we dont just have to buy unisex clothes. We have a chest of drawers full of unisex bodysuits and sleepsuits already.

The names for our child have been picked out for ages, although we have had trouble with a boys middle name but now its decided.

Deanna Eliza for a girl
Daniel Ryan for a boy
Little D fo now lol

afternoon all!
AmieR - welcome, good to have you on board
DollyP - I am no where near fluent in Spanish and must admit that the whole doctors consultation with detailed medical language is really hard and nerve-wracking, but I reckon that if I always get other people to talk for me then I wont get better, so I am struggling along and getting by. Although I'm pretty sure we will get a friend (fluent) to be at the hospital for the birth, just so we feel properly in control of the situation and we know what is going on.

Onilly - Well done with the whole screening battle. At least you have it sorted out a bit better now.

Booboo - I'm so glad your sickness has cleared up. Mine is actually so much better and much much better than my first pg, so am still feeling quite good despite throwing up in the mornings.

The whole boy/girl thing is occupying a large part of my brain at the moment. I would love to know, but don't really want anyone else to know (but couldn't keep it a secret anyway). DP is dead against finding out, and he has as much right to decide as me, so we won't find out. But its hard here because everyone seems to find out at 20 weeks if they can tell (and you have another scan as standard in the 3rd trimester too). The radiographers aren't used to not revealing the sex and this is made harder by the fact that there isn't really a word for "it" here, so once they know the sex its hard not to reveal it accidentally.

Anyway, my friend, who claims she has weird baby prediction powers and has never been wrong [sceptical face] says its a girl. My first was a boy, Alfie, and I was very very sick for 28 weeks -so that kind of goes against the girl/sick theory. I'm better this time, but who knows? Does that mean anything. I must say, and I know this is awful, but I would prefer a boy. I know its not very pc to have a preference, and of course I would be happy with a girl, but i have always imagined myself with two boys.

Incidentally, thanks a thread on names I started yesterday, here if you are interested, I have lots of girls names...
Jemima, Ava, Lyra, Maia, Isla, Lois, Lana - seem a little obsessed by the 'ending in an A' theme.

I only have one boys name at the moment though - Leon.

DP is still going on about wanting 'Dizzy' for a boy, he is unmoving, but this is one battle he won't win! The surname is Dix, BTW.

My computer has pegged it, right in the middle of work too. The harddrive has gone and I estimate to have lost about 2 years worth of pictures and personal stuff. Arghhhhh!!!! let it be a warning to all, never to trust a machine, and back up your stuff, boo hoo.
On a happy note glad to hear boys bums are easy to clean, mine is 90% confirmed a boy now so I'll be pointing that pecker away from vests and tops. Only thing is their clothes are rather dull and I was looking forward to sparkly hairclips and making nice skirts with lots of netting etc etc.

pennygaff · 27/09/2006 15:03

this is DP computer as mine is currently in bits on the floor BTW

kittywits · 27/09/2006 16:01

You know my mother's not on the beaten track. I have to tell you what she said to me when we were out at a mondoloin concert yesterday.
Her " you should learn the mandolin"
me " Hmm, I haven't got time"
Her " What do you mean? What are you doing then?"
I was rendered speechless. I wanted to ask her if she was serious and then mummbled something pathetic about house work.
This is what she does, very subltly undermine whatever I am doing. It's no wonder I think most things I do have no value !!! I'm working on it though.

cazboldy · 27/09/2006 17:15

Hi all just back from my dating scan and apparantly am 12 weeks 5 days and am due on 6th of April ( but will hang around on here if noone minds??) everything looks great!

anniediv · 27/09/2006 17:21

Pennygaff, who says you can't dress him in sparkly hairclips and tutus??

Dixia, I have posted on you names thread (dd3 is Lola).

Kittywits, in between 5 kids, being pregnant and camping out on the smacking thread, why on EARTH do you not have time to learn the mandolin?? Your time/management skills must be shocking!!

And hello in general to everyone else, I am still feeling chipper after a day of no antisick pills, no vomitting, and eating 2 meals, hooray for me!

kittywits · 27/09/2006 17:23

Caz, please stay!!

Annie, really glad you've had a good no sicky day, long may it ontinue

kiwibella · 27/09/2006 17:26

oh kittywits!! Keep working on it. Mother's (and grandmothers) are the only ones who can get away with those sort of comments. Hope you enjoyed the concert.

Aime... welcome and congrats

aargh... baby names!! Some of us are too organised . I have a definate boy's name but three girls. They are all from my grandparents so I'm very proud of that. Dh and his mother can do the middle names etc. I need to run this by her tho (cultural thing) so fingers crossed that she will be ok with it. Dh named dd with her so it must be my turn this time

Booboobedoo · 27/09/2006 17:42

I personally think that anyone who doesn't learn to play the mandolin has had a wasted life.

We've got our names picked out now. Jonathan Peter for a boy, and Elizabeth Susan for a girl.

We won't decide how we'll shorten them until we meet LO.

We've been ttc for a long time, and organizing treatment for ages before that, so we've had ages to argue about names.

LaidbackinAsia · 27/09/2006 18:05

Hi everyone. Have returned from a three day trip to my Dads farm . He had a "mid life crisis" a few years ago - traded in his wife for a younger model (3 years older than me !!) and moved to a barn in France. He has had his ear pierced whch is a bit odd for a 55 year old - but I won't judge him on that

Booboo - glad you are feeling better. Last time I was pregnant I read something about "cheesy" vernix and thought of my baby being covered in a Dairylea consistency cheese for a longtime afterwards...yuck !

O'nilly - well done for singlehandedly taking on your GP ! Sounds like you are finally getting results !

Welcome Aimie

Annie - I have 2 boys (Oscar and Wilbur) and am thinking that this one will probably be a boy too. Don't mind either way really. DH doesn't want to know the sex at the scan but I do (not good at suprises!)Not sure if I can keep a secret for another 5 months ! Dixia could you keep it a secret if you got told at the scan ??

Kitty - ring your mum and tell her that you have booked in for an intensive Mandolin course at the Royal College of Music and that as she was so keen for you to learn - you assume she is happy to look after the kids for the two weeks you are away

Having my dating scan tomorrow morning - should be 16+4

kittywits · 27/09/2006 18:19

Laid back, you dad sounds rather groovy. Is he enjoying his new life?

Actually I taught myself mandolin this afternoon

LaidbackinAsia · 27/09/2006 18:27

Yes ...seems to be enjoying his new life and his new wife !! His wife has 4 kids 2 the same age as mine - so it was a bit weird for me to see him parent them as he was not really around in my life as he went his own way when I was quite young.

They grow all their own veg and rear animals for meat - we ate lamb, sausages and chicken from their farm. Nice for the kids to see where meat comes from !!

pennygaff · 27/09/2006 18:34

I have always found mandolin to be madatory to mantain a healthy balance of work/life. And I had to put down my mandolin to type that.

Piffle · 27/09/2006 18:38

We also have a boys name
girls names AAARGHH I named dd while dp was out, he does like her name and agrees it was a superb choice but that this time he wants to do it
He is stuck on Nora which I do really like BUT I feel a certain personality is needed to carry Nora off IYSWIM

pennygaff · 27/09/2006 18:39

sorry to hear some are sick, Hows the bumps? I had my first antenatal class yesterday, All I can say is ...PELVIC FLOOR EXERCISES do them or face lifelong shame and wetting accidents.
Why do all MWs put the fear of god into you? is it part of the training?

kittywits · 27/09/2006 18:41

You're right Piffle. Personally it remind sme of a lady in a certain early evening sunday sitcom

TheBlonde · 27/09/2006 18:54

Hi everyone, we will be finding out the sex of the bump but we might keep it to ourselves. We have one name in mind (boy) but I think my parents will hate it. I love it though.

Agree with Penny - PFE - come on everybody squeeze....

LaidbackinAsia · 27/09/2006 18:55

Up with the lift down with the lift .... thats what the midwife taught me and not had any leakages yet

dollyp · 27/09/2006 19:00

Hello

Glad all the sickly ladies are feeling much better. I too have had a good day on the sickness front - not even a whiff of nausea, so that's 2 good days in a row. I am going for the triple tomorrow. Hurray!

Names - I am with Booboo and really love traditional names. DD is Lucy, which I was fixated on for years. If she had been a boy, she would have been Henry, which I like but not as much as other boys' names. Henry is a family name for DH but I am angling for it as a middle name instead. I would LOVE jonathan, but as the baby's surname will be remarkably similar it's out really for us.

I love Oscar and Wilbur, but think they might be too trendy for us as we are quite square. I met a will yesterday who is called Willoughby, which I hadn't come across as a first name before. Makes me think of the cad in Sense and Sensibility. Oh, and Greg Wise [grin.

PMSL at mandolin comments. Kitty, you deserve a medal sometimes! Your mum sounds like a, er, character.

Went to see new house today which we are moving into next week. It's a lot tattier than I remember (aren't they always?!) I did wander round for about an hour thinking that it was a really expensive mistake but DH has talked me out of it. It'll be fine, won't it ??? (please say it will!) Needs some work though, which will be interesting when heavily pg. Must go to the John Lewis website as got to buy a washing machine. Deep joy.

See you tomorrow XXXX
