Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Sorry for multiple posts in a row! Just wondered how much luck people have had getting a scan photo at NHS early scans? My parents are going on holiday on the day of my 12 week scan and I know they're worried about everything. It would be really nice for them to be able to see a scan photo before they go away!

fourmonthstogo · 18/08/2014 20:14

I agree with cakes about the cost, I know that upfront realike nappies can seem like a massive outlay but they are much cheaper long run, especially as you can sell them on or use for a second child.
I also agree about line drying, keeps them nice and bright too- I think we only tumble dried a handful of times, even in winter the microfiber ones dry quickly on a rack indoors. I don't have a tumble dryer now and I'm not remotely concerned!
cakes have you tried the flips disposable inserts? I thought they were awful, but I loved my stay dry ones.

fourmonthstogo · 18/08/2014 20:24

Overall I preferred the bumgenius v4 and free time though, found them more absorbant. It is worth pointing out that with cloth you do have to change slightly more frequently, but if you are prepared for it it is well worth it.
I must also confess that although we used them right from one week old to potty trained, including holidays where there was a washing machine, we used pampers at night.

fourmonthstogo · 18/08/2014 20:25

coaster my turn for multiple posts! My nhs trust says I can have a photo for £4.

FoscarC · 18/08/2014 20:34

coaster why are you so concerned re your scan? You seem convinced something is wrong. I may have forgotten something and can't remember if your last scan was bad, but why are you so negative? I hope you're ok.x

FoscarC · 18/08/2014 20:36

Sorry coaster I remember. It was spotting. Try and relax and stay calm (easier said than done I know). Remember plenty of people who spot go on to have healthy pregnancies. Fingers crossed for you.

m33r · 18/08/2014 20:50

coaster try not to worry (stupid thing to say I know). Glad it's early morning. If you get a photo you better post on here. Thinking of you.

coastergirl · 18/08/2014 20:54

Foscar I know most people would suggest to stay positive, but I know what I'm like. If I convince myself all is ok, it'll hit me much harder if it's bad news. I'm better off believing the worst and being pleasantly surprised. Plus, the spotting has been almost every day, and yesterday was bright red, although it disappeared again. I don't know. It just works better for me this way.

M33r if all is ok and I get a photo, I will indeed post it on here. Thank you :-)

m33r · 18/08/2014 20:56

Good luck!!! Everything is crossed x

Rainbow555 · 18/08/2014 21:06

Thanks surfs, panda and digger, I have sent an email back to the lady asking more about the background and training and just voicing my concerns. I think if I am ok with what she comes back with I will just go with her as did like her, and I don't want to risk not getting anyone!

Coaster, good luck fx all is well for you

I'm rhesus- (B-) and it was 4 days after DS was born that I asked about his blood group, as I remembered after the fog of the EMCS that I hadn't had an anti-D injection, and assured that he was also rhesus negative. The next day - day 5 - a nurse walks in to give me my anti-D. I was quite alarmed and said that I was told yesterday that DS was rhesus- to which she told me that it was incorrect and he was rhesus + - A+!!!
I knew that you should really have the anti-D within 72 hours of baby's birth if baby is + so I have been a little concerned about this. I asked the MW on thursday and she admitted it should be given within 72 hours but having it 5 days later doesn't make it suddenly ineffective, just the effectiveness begins to wear off. Did absolutely nothing to reassure me but she did say my bloods will show if I have been sensitised to it - especially as I had a placenta abruption, >1500ml of blood loss and there was only JUST enough blood in the cord left to do blood tests.
I have absolutely no idea when my scan date will be. I have more chance of a cow landing on my lap than York Hospital sending me an appointment BEFORE I am 12 weeks, afterall last time PALS had to get involved. Makes me mad though because my friend is due 10th March saw the SAME midwife at the SAME community hospital for her booking in appointment and her scan date was arranged that very same date although at a different hospital. Chose York because 1) DS born there. 2) familiar with it for other reasons 3) Slightly nearer 4) easier to find than the other 5)Parking is better whereas the other one you often can't get a parking space.

FoscarC · 18/08/2014 21:17

coaster I completely understand. Sending you the best luck and, yes, we defo want to see photos if possible.

Pinksun12 · 18/08/2014 21:25

Good luck coaster! I've got a similar attitude, also due to the amount of spotting I've had. Quite often I don't even check my knickers when I go to toilet because I'm so worried. I'm on holiday in France atm but will be going for an emergency scan this week.

Pinksun12 · 18/08/2014 21:26

Oh and when I had scans at the EPAU I always got a picture! (In London) free of charge! Whereas you had to pay a pound or something at the 12 and 20 week scans

persepolis123 · 18/08/2014 22:32

Scan photos are £5 here unless it's gone up in the last 2 years. Quite expensive really as last time we wanted one for each set of grandparents as well.

coastergirl · 18/08/2014 23:06

junk your situation re scan us awful, but I'm sorry, I just giggled so much at the comment of a cow landing in your lap! Blush

On my 12 week scan letter it says pictures are £4 but my scan tomorrow at the EPAU is at a different hospital. There was no mention at all at my previous one, although it was only 5 weeks. Thanks for all the thoughts ladies. Not long now!

diggerdigsdogs · 18/08/2014 23:09

I'm a- for blood. It's not been an issue for previous births but I have reminded drs I need it. I find it easy to get forgotten!

Surfsup1 · 19/08/2014 01:07

Rainbow - I think that sounds sensible. If you clicked with her then that's a pretty great start.

Digger - My DSs are 7 and 5.5, so number 3 is going to be somewhat of an only child! That's what you get for making huge decisions about family dynamics while totally sozzled at your Birthday Party! Blush

I've been looking further into the pram situation (gotta be one of the most fun aspects of pregnancy other than choosing names) and having discovered that the Maclaren XLR now comes with a rear-facing carry cot I don't know if I need to look any further! Having a narrow pram is a big thing for me as I hate having to wrestle my way into shops and cafes and I just loved my Maclaren last time. Also, I just saw one online for $200 with all the optional extras (used but only used 5 times) and that just seems too good to pass up!!??

I think I might get someone to throw me a baby shower this time around. I never had one before but now I've given away all my baby stuff and it would actually be quite useful to get a few useful bits and bobs - even if they're hand-me-downs.

Surfsup1 · 19/08/2014 01:10

Anyone want to take a guess at what flavour baby they're having?

For no apparent reason I have this strong feeling that I'm having a girl this time. Anyone else feeling an inkling?

lotsoftoast · 19/08/2014 07:13

Good luck today coaster

MyPandaisasecretmonster · 19/08/2014 07:18

Good luck for today Coaster

I'm suffering from terrible insomnia , I've had about 5 hours sleep in 3 days Sad

Rainbow555 · 19/08/2014 07:55

Surfs, to be honest I barely feel pregnant apart from all the obvious symptoms!! So literally no idea or thought given to what flavour! Maybe after scan I will start to wonder!

Good luck coaster hope it goes well

pinkandstripey · 19/08/2014 08:18

Good luck today coaster :)

I have an uppababy vista, and I love it - I also have a m&p pushchair which I hate, but it is a lot smaller and lighter than the vista (and I wasn't letting Ryanair maul my vista!!!). I used public transport for the first 9 months of ds's life, it has the biggest shopping basket of any buggy I've seen and while it is wide it is fine on buses. You can get an additional seat to make it into an inline double buggy (wouldn't work for twins, but got to be better than a busy board for a whingy toddler! It's also compatible with the be safe izi car seat (wins in safety tests against maxi cosi).

12 weeks today, scan tmrw :) I was SO convinced ds was a boy was calling him he from very early on. Not so convinced this time, but I think this one might be a girl. We will be finding out at 20 weeks and having a 4d scan as well.

I'm a- for bloods too, I just had one anti d at 28 weeks as ds is same as me. As I understand it, It's because if your blood mixes with the baby's positive blood your body will build an immunity to it, and any future pregnancies can be rejected.

Anybody want my son? It's not even half 8 and he's trying to sit on my head.

M27J5M · 19/08/2014 08:19

Surfs I think I may be ha I g girl too but just cos everything's so diff from when preg with ds but suppose I could change my mind again!

Unless it's changed since ds there's no set price here for scan pic just a donation of £1+
