Baby nail clippers! Forgot about those! Baby wash isn't needed but a bit of baby bath in the water is good. Cotton buds, a baby soft hairbrush?

freyaW2014 · 08/08/2014 16:53

I'm getting all 0-3 months, newborn clothes last about 2 weeks!

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 08/08/2014 16:55

Noted!

I was five pounds 2 when I was born, and most of my family have fairly small babies.

However, DPs two boys were 11 pounds and 13 pounds.

I am hoping for a happy medium!

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 08/08/2014 17:02

The 13 pounder is now 14. He still has an absolutely enormous head! Hats are a problem.

I may or may not take the piss out of him. :)

oohdaddypig · 08/08/2014 17:03

It is great to be organised.... But in case anyone is hopelessly disorganised, like me...

You honestly need hardly anything initially - not even a nursery. A little crib, babygroes, nappies, sudocreme, wipes,. Some kind of pram/buggy. Changing mat. Baby monitor maybe. It will be cold, so a wee snowsuit, hat, mittens. Blankets. Lots of soft bibs for dribbles. And Muslins.

Lansinoh if you plan to breastfeed to save your nipples. Some scarves work brilliantly so sling over your shoulder if our and about to hide boob. Couple of nursing bras - get measured late on.

A top and tail bowl and lots of cotton wool is great for first few weeks.

So don't stress :)

My top recommendation is a baby gym for the floor. And a sling as my little ones have all been v cuddly and it gives you free hands.

For you - lots of maternity nickers and towels!!

I actually really enjoy getting out and about once they are born and they can "choose" stuff.

I appreciate my last minute attitude isn't for everyone!

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 08/08/2014 17:13

OhDaddy thank you, that's very useful to know what is and isnt really essential. I really want a sling but have NO idea which to go for.

Babygym - check!

As its going to be December, and I don't drive, and it'll probably be freezing outside, I'm not planning on going shopping at all as it'll be an absolute headache getting into Birmingham over the Christmas Period! Unless DP is with me and can scare the crowds into parting!

oohdaddypig · 08/08/2014 17:21

I have always used a babybjorn but it's a big no-no on mumsnet apparently!!

I couldn't be faffed with anything needing tied.

With DD2 my sling was honestly a lifesaver for actually doing anything, as I had DC1.

I would also really recommend a gro-bag. Mine hated swaddling but they can't go in one from birth apparently

SassehMonsta · 08/08/2014 17:45

Ok, so a list:

What I have

  • cot (need screws to attached together!)
  • few newborn and 0-3 babygrow/vest things
  • snow-suit (used to be mine 24 years ago!)
  • a towel with a hood
  • Travel system (pushchair & carseat)
  • a Blanket thing
  • a Naty Newborn Starter Kit (a gift from a friend, a few nappies, few wipes and a bib)
  • tiny free pot of Sudocrem
  • baby bouncer (needs collecting)
  • baby bath (also mine from donkeys years ago)

What I want to add:

  • slings/wraps (waiting on a consultancy to see what sort I prefer!)
  • moses basket/crib for our room
  • some kind of trousers/longer legged outfits for baby
  • Breast pump
  • Bottles & Steriliser for expressing into etc
  • Changing mat
  • Bibs
  • Muslins
  • Nipple Cream - Should I get some?!
  • Scratch mits
  • Some kind of blind/blackout blind for the windows current one is shite

Phew. I know I have forgotten stuff, but I'm watching Torchwood now and don't care for what else I have missed ;)

Hugmonster82 · 08/08/2014 17:45

Wow you're all so organised! I really want to start proper shopping but trying my best to spread it out. Another 17 weeks seems like a long time to wait so was trying to prolong the fun of buying things. I now want to go shopping tomorrow!

oohdaddypig · 08/08/2014 17:57

Yes yes yes to nipple cream :)

Wow these lists are so helpful! I feel like I've bought nothing yet, apart from a few cute items of clothing.

Went shopping for a nice dress to wear to a beer festival today and it was awful! Maternity clothes are horrendous. Most of them made me feel like I was in a tent so I just went for a normal dress. I suppose it's different if you're 9 months pregnant, they should do different stages in clothes Smile

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 08/08/2014 18:58

I am allergic to lanolin. Has anyone tried any lanolin free nipple creams? Any recommendations?

SassehMonsta · 08/08/2014 19:17

sorry, no idea bighairy !

I also want a rocking chair/breastfeeding chair/something comfy to sit on in babys room, that the dog knows he is NOT allowed on. Hes currently allowed anywhere so starting to restrict him a bit at a time, and I want an excuse for a new chair! The chair we have in there currently is a fold out bed and has no arms, and is dogs favourite scratching/rolling place! :/

I think I now also want a mobile for babys cot (though I may make one), and a playmat thing. I need to get off the selling pages on facebook! I also want to get a travel cot but they are extortionatly priced!

Baby hasn't been very active today at all, can't recall more than one kick since this morning. Found heartbeat easily, a lot further up than last time (which was a few weeks ago!), so pleased baby is still ok in there for now!! If no movement by tomorrow morning (been getting regular movement in evenings and first thing in morning), will text midwife.

Feeling quite prepared... not! Grin

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 08/08/2014 19:22

Sasseh I got a beautiful rocking chair from one of the second hand furniture places near me. Homestart one I think it was. No one wants them anymore so they frequently had them in. Mine cost £15!

Hugmonster82 · 08/08/2014 19:41

I wanted an excuse for a new chair too so DH bought me a lovely armchair for my birthday. Unfortunately one of my cats has decided it's her new favourite chair too. She sits and glares at me every time I sit in it and then jumps on as soon as I move. She's going to hate the baby!

CatFaceCrayola · 08/08/2014 20:00

Finally managed to pester DH into starting sorting his room tonight. I normally make a habit of avoiding said room, and I wish I'd not gone in.

We live in a 3 bedroom house. Currently I have a craft/sewing/dressing/pole(once upon a time) room and he has an "office" /piles of shite and clutter room. The plan is to move his wardrobe, chest of drawers and PC into my room and have the little room as baby-room.

I'm not the tidiest of people, but I like things to look nice and I really do try. Having witnessed his room tonight he clearly doesn't give a damn . I fear this will be the cause of any future arguments.

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 08/08/2014 20:16

Hi hi! Sorry I've been so quiet without warning; was at my little sister's wedding and cried all the way through!! I only got touched once or twice, which was tolerable, ha.
Will catch up when I'm at work tomorrow, but I hope you're all okay? I'm 20 weeks tomorrow, seems crazy that I've made it this far.

DrewsWife · 08/08/2014 20:34

Go to car boot sales. I got loads from there.

I also have lanolin allergy. So I'm going to struggle. :(. Think I will use basic moisturiser and see how that goes. Some on the breast feeding boards and saying that using breast milk works too.

SassehMonsta · 08/08/2014 20:43

Catface, we have the same. 3 bed, our room, my craft room, and his "office" aka, place of junk. I have decided I can't share my room with him, so he keeps his mess and I share/shrink my craft stuff for baby. I don't go in there unless I really have to, its all covered in empty cider cans and just stuff. Boooo. He does have some/lots of stuff stored away nicely in boxes in my craft room, so they are going to be relocated!

I love car boots :) Now I have a definite list, I can keep an eye out.

CatFaceCrayola · 08/08/2014 21:09

sasseh I'm beginning to that your idea may be a better plan. Not sure I dare share this idea with DH

Taura · 08/08/2014 21:37

On STUFF subject, does anyone have experience of the Theraline maternity pillow? Something about the dream genie doesn't appeal (it looks too mono-use in the way it's constructed) so looking at alternatives. I am not sleeping well and although I'm using a small pillow between my knees, it falls out a lot and I keep reading about how much better people sleep with the pillows.

CatFaceCrayola · 08/08/2014 21:53

I've been using a v-shaped pillow in front of me and a big long sausage shaped bolster behind me. Never heard of theraline though

My mum and DH have both just expressed negativity at the idea of me sharing my room with Bubble. Ah well, DH obviously wants the extra nagging he'll get if he doesn't keep it tidy! I've just been gently persuading -nagging- home to get rid of his dvds (he's become a bluray snob so won't watch them anyway). That'll be a fun hour or so spent in CEX (the worst smelling shop ever!) tomorrow trading in 100+ dvds!

Taura · 08/08/2014 22:09

Theraline pillow

TinyMonkey · 08/08/2014 22:14

Why are they being negative about the baby sharing your room Catface? Several studies have shown that it can reduce the risk of SIDS. Plus on a practical level it's much easier to feed them during the night.

I expect TM junior to be in our room for at least the first six months, if not the first year.
