sasseh I think fundraising of some kind is a good idea.

I had a great nights sleep last night. Seemed to wake up un-achey in the same position I started in (I'm a fidgeter) Don't think I even had to get up to pee...Shocker!! Maybe it was just as I was so knackered but I also did a youtube yoga relaxation thing just before bed. Will be trying that again.

we are struggling for names. Boys names were sorted. A boy would've been Wilbur Brian Roy but aawe can't agree on girls names. We have one middle name...Iryce (pronounced Iris) is a combination of our mums Irene and Janyce. DH wanted it as first name. I like it but only as a middle name. Otherwise my favourite girls name is Ezmerelda which he hates (i wrote a list and to be honest he didn't like most of my suggestions) and his is Dorothea which I'm not digging. It's so tough!!

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 08/08/2014 10:54

Sasseh, I'll happily chip in with any fundraising.

I've finally pulled my finger out and started to get a list of baby stuff together (maybe the pills are kicking in!) My best friend has a three month old so she has given me a list of the stuff she has spare, and other stuff she's found really useful.

Shes recommended the reusable wipes (like cheeky wipes etc) which she says are brilliant and saves a lot of money so I'll be picking up some of them.

There is a 6 pack of tommee tippi closer to nature feeding bottles on Amazon for £7.20 which is a bit of a bargain ( I have amazon prime so no idea whether that has brought the price down)

CatFaceCrayola · 08/08/2014 11:02

Never knew reusable baby wipes were a thing. Research required!

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 08/08/2014 11:27

I'm planning on using reusable nappies, mostly because they work out so much cheaper and I've got the washing mashine on every day anyway. Plus I have it on good authority that there are very few up the back poosplosions with them as the backs are tigher than disposables. They are also better than the foldable ones of old as they come preshaped, and are stuffable with absorbant pads of varying absorbancy, poo is flushed down the loo with the disposable biodegradable liner. If I'm using them, then it makes sense to use the reusable wipes too as they can go in with the nappies and don't need to dry.

I have been told (and looking at the reviews) to stay away from the Bambino Mio nappies as they are pretty useless. Heard good things about easypeasy and bumgenius though.

CatFaceCrayola · 08/08/2014 11:50

I REALLY want to use reusable nappies, my big concern is that I won't be able to keep up with the washing and drying. I'm rubbish (but getting better at it) now with just me and DH

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 08/08/2014 12:06

If you are washing every day or other day, and have enough nappies (newborns use about 8 a day, so you'll need 16 or more) you'll be fine. Some of them are very quick drying. The Bumgenius ones last from birth to toddler so if you get to grips with them, there's only the one outlay and they work out massively cheaper. (Can also pick them up second hand much cheaper) I still plan on using disposables when camping or out though. I'm not that militant!

I would much prefer to dispose of poo-covered liner, use a thick cotton wipe for the baby (only takes one and you are less likely to get poo on your hands as they are thicker.) Sling the nappy and wipe into a bucket. At the end of the day, pull the bag out of the bucket and sling it straight into the washing machine as opposed to using disposables, paying for them every week, throwing 8 a day away plus wipes - having binbags full of nappies sitting outside the door...

The baby however may have other ideas.... Smile

pinkhollie · 08/08/2014 13:02

I think I popped on to the thread in July to say hello and then have had a busy few weeks with family weddings, passport dramas and finally a holiday in France. I'm 21w+5 with dc2 and we had our 2nd scan last week. All seems normal and good, starting to feel quite a lot of movement but have an anterior placenta just like last time so not as pronounced yet.

I've just read the whole of this thread and have been so touched by Miraculous's story and send lots of love and support to her and anyone else who has had a difficult time. X

SassehMonsta · 08/08/2014 13:14

Ohh sounds good BigHairy will have to look into it!

I started making a list while in Mothercare this morning, of bits and bobs that we haven't yet got, and so far its not too long. Yet. Wink

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 08/08/2014 13:36

Anyone object if I post my things I think I need list? Would be helpful if could be told whether I have missed anything or anything on there which is non-essential?

DrewsWife · 08/08/2014 13:41

Morning. 21 weeks today and struggling. I feel heavy and lethargic. But going out baby shopping this afternoon.

Had to use my crutches all day yesterday grrrrr. Had hoped after a good day I would be off of them. Went to bravissimo and got another major support system.

And later on I will start shopping for Jammies. Sadly hubby has no arse so I won't be wearing his. He is a 34 waist. (I hate him)

DrewsWife · 08/08/2014 13:51

Can you post the list please?? I'm going to a local charity shop today to buy a load of baby vests and babygros. They do them in bags of four or five. So will get a fair few wee bags.

I'm doing lots of second hand to cut down costs.

Oh and sorry I won't be joining the real nappy brigade. Hmm

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 08/08/2014 14:24

Righto! Heres what I've got. Sorry about the delay but I've just had to remove a particularly suicidal frog from my cats no less than 5 times! I know that reusables are not everyones choice and that's fine. Just for me they are the better option. Hope the baby agrees.

List is for first few months. I might get in a highchair/age specific stuff too if we move but right now we've not got a fat lot of space.

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 08/08/2014 14:26

I wont be buying much of this new. Either handmedowns or second hand. There is absolutely no point spending a small fortune on baby stuff.

freyaW2014 · 08/08/2014 14:30

bighairy I was thinking of reuseable a too, all the advice seems to be to use disposables for the first 2 weeks as you will be so tired etc & also just to buy a couple (or you can apparently borrow some from a company then give back) just to make sure they are right for you.
It kind of put me off a bit though-all that fuss when I want to have everything ready..kind of wanted it all at once to be prepared!

freyaW2014 · 08/08/2014 14:34

Will you need socks if baby is only in onsies? Also don't forget all the toiletries like baby bath etc!
They won't need toys at first just a teddy & maybe a baby gym? Although I guess they will very quickly so no harm in getting!

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 08/08/2014 14:40

Socks can come off. I hate them anyway.

Toys etc I've put on to cover the fact I'll be given a load I'd imagine!

Reusables - I'm being given a load of size zeros by my best mate (will give them back when baby grows out of them so she can sell them on) so I'll have a chance to try them before I invest in any. I'll get in a pack of newborn disposables as back up until we get into the swing of what we are doing.

freyaW2014 · 08/08/2014 14:48

I hate socks too! I was thinking of just getting onsies and cardigans too for the first couple of months although I expect family and friends wil buy some cute outfits so will end up with loads probably!
Car boot sales are great for baby stuff, 2nd hand is fine with me as long as in good condition and they are so cheap!

Hugmonster82 · 08/08/2014 15:07

Silly question but what size vests, baby grows and snow suit etc will you get? I've bought a few bits but in 0-3 months so last longer. How much smaller is newborn size? I'm 5'8'' and DH is 6'5'' so expecting a long baby but should I get some smaller stuff too?

SassehMonsta · 08/08/2014 15:11

Also not a fan of socks! What about scratch mittens? Some babies have sharp nails very quickly I seem to remember, with very soft skin.

I seem to have lots of short sleeved newborn sized vest/babygrow things, but not many all in ones, or trousers/bottoms. I have a couple of jumpers and I have 2 snowsuits and a warm teddy suit thing (£1 from carboot!).

I've been given a very soft dog/blanket/comforter thing which seems to have bits to chew on. I'll try and find a link thing to it later on, but its brightly coloured and snuggly!

Bathing - small towels/towels with hooded corners might be an idea. And maybe things like baby bath stuff or soft and gentle things.

Also personal sanitary items for you - I've seen things like super strength panty liners mentioned and breast pads.

Any medicine that we should have to hand for little-ones? As this is DC1 we only have adult stuff, should I be getting in Calpol, Bonjela, gripe water etc?

21+6

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 08/08/2014 15:24

My mums picked me up couple of packs of newborn, and a couple packs of 0-3. I'll wait till later in the pregnancy to grab a snowsuit. I'll get that in 0-3.

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 08/08/2014 15:36

Ah shit yeah, towels. My dad's given me one and I'll buy a couple more. Theres some in Aldi at the minute going cheap.

Maternity pads yes yes. They don't tell you you'll bleed for weeks...
Breast pads - again I'm going washable so I get the one outlay rather than a constant money drain (am going to be very skint during maternity and don't plan on going back to the same uber-stressful job), and nipple shields.

Toiletries - Lanisoh/other nipple soothing cream, bethanthen/sudocreme for baby bum
Calpol?
Some sort of baby -wash (not initially - water will be fine won't it?)

Later on - teething gel etc.

PourquoiTuGachesTaVie · 08/08/2014 16:16

Hope it's ok to share my list maybe it will help someone else?

I already have;

Bedside cot & mattress
Sheets and blankets for cot
0-6 month and 6-12 month size sleeping bags
Swaddling sheet/blanket thing
Car seat
Pram & rain cover
Adapters for pram so car seat can be attached to it.
Mei tai, Kari-me wrap & various other slings
Enough clothes to last until baby is 4 (I have all of ds' old clothes)
Reusable nappies, muslins, wraps, wipes & nappy bucket
All ds' old toys including jumperoo and vibrating rocking chair (best purchase ever - great for calming baby and ds loved it until he was too big for it)
Millions of bibs, socks, mittens (inc. scratch sleeves) and hats of various sizes and materials
Washable breast pads
Changing bag
Pram clips for bags etc
Baby nail scissors/snot sucker/thermometer/calpol
Tens machine
Birthing ball
Stair gates

Need:
Car seat rain cover
Disposable maternity pads
Nipple shields
Lansinoh cream
Cheap primark vests & tops
A full size single bed (for ds but really so that dh has somewhere to sleep when ds and new baby inevitably take up all the room in our bed - grown men don't fit very well in cot beds Wink)
To borrow some new box sets from dsis (she's like a library service!)
Lots of books on my kindle
Lots of freezer food/tins of soup/easy meals

Want:
Ring sling
Extra babygrows and body suits/vests (maybe some girlier ones)

Extras in case they're needed:
Breast pump & associated crap - tbh if I can't bf I'm not going to bother faffing around expressing with everything else I have to deal with as well as a new baby.
Bottles
Steriliser
Dummies
Perfect prep machine - if I can't bf then this is a must have treat for myself this time around.

Not going to bother with;
Baby bath - awkward PITA
Baby smellies - ds had terrible eczema and there really is no point to them
Moses basket - no room for it anyway

All I can think of at the moment.,,

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 08/08/2014 16:18

Your list utterly reflects that you know what you are doing! :)

When all our babies are born anyone want to set up a swapshop for bits that we don't need that someone else might?

PourquoiTuGachesTaVie · 08/08/2014 16:19

Forgot the Airwrap! Forget buying a cot bumper, just get an Airwrap, they're great. Can't praise them enough.

CatFaceCrayola · 08/08/2014 16:49

Oh goodness me.
I need to get my arse in gear and get organised. I keep being all "4months is ages off" but think I need to study these lists and get on it
