Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I read something yesterday that said first babies are less likely to change position after 36 weeks than subsequent babies because tummy muscles are usually tighter with first babies...obviously that's not the case for everyone though!

thanks sazzle for the reassurance - just need to book it now. I always jump when the needle goes in and have to ask the nurse to give me prior warning like some mega wimp (can't watch as get quesy)!

ohthegoats · 29/07/2014 13:09

I've got a scan next Monday. All about size really, but also it's been breech at every scan so far, so who knows. I don't have very tight tummy muscles, but I'd say my NCT person does - she's super fit, and very lean - it's a smuggled football sort of bump.

mum2kiss · 29/07/2014 15:30

Just found out that a work colleague had her baby yesterday. She'd had her heart set on this perfect vaginal, drug free Birth but Instead had to be induced followed swiftly by an emcs as baby got into difficulty. So now she has her heart set on breastfeeding and is struggling with it. I just want to go to the hospital and point out all positives in her situation and tell her it really doesn't matter that much That things didn't go to her plan...They rarely do!

clops2000 · 29/07/2014 15:36

Hi all, sorry to hear about sad days and crazy house renovations - we're having a re-wire next week but won't be doing any redecorating other than painting the plastered channels to stop dust in first instance. Well done to those brave souls undertaking extensions etc! Quite excited as it means we can put cot up and create a 'nursery' at last, though we're sticking to our guns that we're not completely decorating baby's room as he won't care at first!
Struggled getting to sleep last night, think the first signs of restless legs perhaps setting in :(

Anyone else planning a home birth on here? We're just about decided that we're going to have one now. Be nice to hear other people's plans. Can't believe only 9 weeks to go!

thank god the sun's disappeared, enjoying the breeze floating through the house today...

gunwalloe · 29/07/2014 16:06

My babys still doing somersaults shes in a different position every appointment when I prod her at night she seems to be transverse but as shes coming out the sunroof she can do what she wants.

I would have loved a home birth or even a water birth but having a emcs on my first baby took that away.

Grannyapple · 29/07/2014 16:35

Ooh clops I'm thinking of having one as this is my 3rd & last baby. Spoke to mw briefly on Saturday about it...next appt is 16th aug & I've to decide by then. Need to get my iron levels up first though..

I haven't really looked into it in any great detail but I'm trying to think of the practicalities...filling & emptying pool afterwards? Where to deliver the placenta (I'll have it managed but does it mean on the sofa (covered up obviously!). I need to divine research on pools i think...have you decided which you'll go for?

cabster · 29/07/2014 16:52

What I wouldn't give for a breech baby! I have a transverse Trevor. He spends his days trying to punch and kick his way out of each of my sides, at the same time. Quite breathtaking!

I now have one eye firmly fixed on the calendar counting down the days to the start of mat leave. 6 weeks 2 days to go! Pleeeeeeeeease hurry!

Instead of taking it easy I spent Sunday afternoon on a motorway roundabout in Scotland, waiting for the towtruck with DD in the rain. We spent the time pretending there was a troll on the motorway and looking out for the 3 billy goats gruff. She now loves towtrucks! And I was a little bit excited too. Won't be excited when the repair bill arrives, but hey. I'm blaming the troll.

Sending positive vibes to flip and bump Thanks

clops2000 · 29/07/2014 17:08

Grannyapple, I've booked a pool through our local hospital - we're lucky to have this service and can always cancel it if change our mind. My initial main concern was the OH having the hassle of filling/emptying pool too but we've been to a couple of free NCT homebirth classes and it sounds easier than I first thought. Once it's filled, apparently its just a bucket of cold out and a bucket of warm in every 20 mins which sounds manageable. As we've done hypnobirthing home seems the best place for us, and for hubby to be really involved, but I'm staying open to needing to be in hospital - have a scan in a couple of weeks to check on my fibroid but I'm hoping it should all be fine.
Avoiding triage, getting in car, medical intervention and post-natal ward are the main attractions for me...but if nature says I need them then so be it :)

clops2000 · 29/07/2014 17:14

My LO was head down last time I went to midwife and the kicks just under ribs make me think he's still that way up - get some strange feelings right round on my sides though too sometimes! More wriggles and sliding movements this week which sometimes feel really strange.
Someone told me yesterday that this stage (I'm 30+5) is hardest for being breathless etc as uterus is at its highest, not sure if its true but apparently hills'll get easier once he starts to move down a bit, yippee!
Enjoying seeing him move a lot now though, Hubby's been reading to him at night sometimes and got kicked in side of face last night - beautifully hilarious!
Sorry for long posts!

I'd love to have a home birth, but there is no way due to the blood stuff/heparin nonsense. I am not scared about giving birth, I'm scared of hospitals and don't really trust medical stuff in general. Can't help it, my knees still go wobbly when I go up to normal appointments. I've done hypno birthing stuff just as a way of myself calm in hospital. Last time I was in for any length of time I discharged myself straight out of intensive care, just couldn't bare the panicking anymore.

Aaaaanyway. On a different subject - had a really faint and wobbly moment today randomly at lunchtime. Had to go up to the bathroom and sit on the floor waiting to be sick - couldn't really see properly, you know when it goes all blurry and you think you'll pass out. Feel alright now (had a sugary ice lolly which took the edge off), but am supposed to be going to aquanatal tonight.. should I? Feel sick and heartburny, but it might make me feel better? Would have to cycle there.

clops2000 · 29/07/2014 17:46

Maybe have a walk outside first goats and see how you feel? cycling and aqua natal sounds like a lot to take on if feeling like that!
I've heard of loads of people using hypnobirthing stuff in hospital and it helping loads so i'm sure it'll help with being in hospital. If your OH will be with you, can you get them on board to support you with your breathing etc?

porcito · 29/07/2014 17:47

Sorry to hear you're having a hard time flip and bump.

I wouldn't go, goats, that's what kept happening with low blood sugar and anaemia and exercise made it worse. I would go with eating more ice lollies...

Another transverse baby here, fully expecting a foot or rib to come shooting out the side any minute. Ouch.

Kirstipops · 29/07/2014 17:58

spinningbabies.com/techniques/241-inversion

This worked for me and my squinty baby within a couple of days, maybe a coincidence but I was willing to try anything!

ohthegoats · 29/07/2014 17:58

clops - yep, and I've hired a doula too (mostly to keep me calm, and to stop me having to worry about boyfriend!)

I had 2 chocolates... feel better again. I just think I didn't eat enough yesterday or today. Not hungry rally. I'm going to go - but drive there. If I need to cop out half way through, I will.

porcito · 29/07/2014 18:11

I'm going to try it kirsti! Thanks! Though chances of me balancing on a sofa without falling on my head even before pregnancy were quite low.

Is anyone else fed up of people asking about names or am I just being grumpy pregnant hag? As soon as I see people, it's almost the first thing they ask. I made the mistake of giving one person a vague shortlist and they gave the old raised eyebrows, pursed lips 'oh, that's nice', slurps tea and changes subject. Why even ask?! Even if I did have The Name, I don't really want people to know it before she's here anyway for that very reason. I don't want to hear stories of famous murderers/evil exes that have the same name! Rant over...

Grannyapple · 29/07/2014 18:12

I wouldn't go either goats -go get checked out if it happens again? Have you had your 28 wk blood results?

clops yeah I had a waterbirth with DS (was amazing) & narrowly missed out on a pool last time with DD but no soon relief either (defo preferred the waterbirth, lol!). Bit as it's 3rd & I think it'll be even quicker than last time, I'm leaning towards a home birth. Just need to make sure I have plenty of people on standby for the 2 kiddies & if I need to transfer in... It's just the dealing with the pool like you say...think I need to go to some talks with my local nct homebirth group too..

gunwalloe · 29/07/2014 18:27

goats that sounds like a hypo did you have a GTT? Im having a nightmare keeping my blood sugar on track either to high or to low.

mum2kiss · 29/07/2014 18:30

TELL YOU BABY NAME TO NO ONE!!! that's my advice anyway lol!

Goats that sounds like what happened to me before I knew I was anaemic. Worth getting your iron levels checked...

mum2kiss · 29/07/2014 18:31

A sweet drink made me feel better which made me think it may be low blood sugar but it turned out to be low iron...

Missus2ndwife · 29/07/2014 18:38

Goats, are you sure you're ok? That doesn't sound good.

I've just seen the mw for a routine appointment. All seems ok and she's booking me in for the glucose test later this week or early next week. She was very impressed I knew about the whooping cough jab - so thank you ladies for having me prepared Wink

She thinks I do have spd Confused so will try swim crawl or freestyle but feel really gutted. I really enjoy my pool time.

Any other ideas for upping my exercise without affecting the spd?

Bumpforme2014 · 29/07/2014 18:45

Evening all, I am fine my sad news relates to my sister which I don't want to go into as it's her business. Makes you appreciate what we all have though I will say that much.

I am feeling very lazy now, the heat is stopping me from my exercise and thighs now rub together and so much cellulite, I find myself day dreaming about getting back to my usual exercise regime. I am normally slim so finding all this weight gain strange.

Fatpony you look awesome :-) I take my hats off to all of you attending classes, cooking, looking after toddlers and house renovating. After my commute home from work I have no energy left at all, feel like lazy lump.

mum2kiss · 29/07/2014 18:45

I haven't researched exercise much missus as most things seem like they would make pelvic pain worse! I do know that aqua natal is supposed to be good although you'd need an experienced instructor as there are some things you shouldn't do...
