Hi everyone! Haven't checked in in absolutely ages as we have a ton of personal stress going on at the moment :( thank god for DH or I'd be losing the plot!

Does the group now have a FB group? If so I'd love the link to it as it'd be way easier for me to keep up on there :) could someone message me a link or something?

Have skim-read the latest updates and am glad folks are doing well, hope you're feeling ok ilove and that things calm down for you xx

Hippy It's the August thread that has a FB page. I'm on both August & Sept threads as my due date is so close to both. I think most people from the August thread just post on the FB page now ilove tbh.

Went to visit another nursery today which was good. It's quite hard to take it all in though and make a decision when baby hasn't actually arrived yet but they get so booked up so need to do it soon-ish.

That's a good idea KitKat about the Belvita biscuits - may have to add in some of those myself!

Trying to decide if I should get a nursing chair at the mo - has anyone else got one?

ilovemonstersInc · 29/07/2014 15:35

Top im at my mums everyday as she lives so close and she has a nursing rocking chair with footrest that rocks. Its the best thing ever. We all sit in it and mum did bf in it too.

Also see if theres a kidsplanet in your area or check their website. If there was one closer to me I would have sent ds there as everything was brilliant!

Hi everyone, I lost track of the September thread but am checking back in now. Im 31 weeks today so only 9 weeks left.

How is everyone handling the heat? Ive had 2 wonderful days of some light rain and it has been just great, but the rest of the summer has been ridiculously hot.

Ive had braxon hicks for the past couple of weeks now, is this a sign that I'll go into labour before my due date? I never had them with my other children, dc1 was 4 days early and dc2 10 days late.

How often are you all seeing your midwives? I've not seen one since about 18 weeks. The phoneline is a nightmare to get through to and I usually get appointments sent out or my midwife calls me but I hadn't heard anything for a while, so after phoning every day for a fortnight I eventually got through and was told my midwife had left, I must have been forgotten about in the handover so they've booked me in for tomorrow. Thank goodness I managed to eventually get through or I'd never have been seen!

Ella, the whooping cough injection did not hurt me at the time, but I did notice my arm hurting a little bit the next day.

Midwife led unit is more of a home from home environment. Most rooms should have a birthing pool. You can go there if you are passed 36 weeks and have had no problems during pregnancy. You can't be induced there. You cannot have an epidural there, as it is only run by midwives.
A consultant let unit is the normal delivery unit.
(This is what I believe to be the case, someone correct me if I wrong)

Ilove - I hope the pains have eased off, hope everything goes ok with the consultant tomorrow.

Inbl00m · 29/07/2014 21:18

Ella where we are the midwife-led unit is in a different hospital to the consultant-led labour ward but in some places they're just next door to a labour ward or hospital. I'm planning to go to ours but you can only go if low-risk and baby is head down and born between 37 and 42 weeks. Keeping fingers crossed! Basically they're less like hospital - private suites instead of wards, dim lighting, birth pools, etc. - but limited as to pain relief on offer (e.g. no epidurals) and/or procedures they can carry out, so you have to transfer during labour if anything out of the ordinary happens.

Inbl00m · 29/07/2014 21:20

Ha Cindy our posts crossed! That's basically the same set-up where we are. Really hoping to be able to go to the mlu having had a tour and seen how homely and relaxed it is!

Our midwife led unit is part of the maternity suite so if you need a procedure / epidural you just walk down the corridor. Unfortunately they don't do tours at our hospital so no idea what it will be like until the time comes.

Forgot who was asking about bouncers & nursing chairs. We've got a baby bjorn bouncer. Came very highly recommended by friends with children. Like it because it folds flat & you can wash the seat. We got ours for £25 on eBay. The gliding nursing chair & matching gliding footstool were another eBay bargain, £40. V comfy & I can see me spending a lot of time in it.

Had mw appointment yesterday & she was saying about how he will drop any time now & to expect period like pains etc. woke up this morning & my bump has definitely dropped. Little man was obviously listening closely & took it as an instruction. Feeling movement in new places & some of it is really uncomfortable!

cookielove · 29/07/2014 22:03

Strawberry wow that is a long time not to see your midwife! Do you not see one at your GP's a community midwife, i see mine every 4 ish weeks although i have seen a community midwife or diabetes midwife every week for the last 3 weeks due to having a high BP.

StrawberryGashes · 29/07/2014 23:47

It was the same midwife cookie, I'd see her upstairs in the antenatal department, then downstairs at my gp surgery as they were both in the same big health centre. We only go to the hospital here when you're in labour, there's a smaller hospital we go to for scans but it doesnt have a children's ward there or any facilities for labour or to care for babies.

ilovemonstersInc · 30/07/2014 06:48

Strawberry that is a long time to not see any one. Hope they get you sorted today!

I was going to say the same about mlu.
Theres no chance of me going mlu.
I don't need a tour of the labour ward only delivered there last year lol. I don't see the point tbh of tours as you go in, get checked, have your baby and be moved to postnatal.
I suppose if you dont know where your goimg it helps

got appointment today didnt sleep much last night worrying about the appointment what if she won't help and I've got to 'wait' to deliver and stay in all this pain? I dont dilate properly which is why I need the drip to help be induced

Sad so now im tired too.

Gook luck today ilove

I did the hospital tour last night and while the mw seam brilliant the hospital could do with some money being spent on it! The MW led unit was, well grim came to mind! The high risk bit was far better, they were bigger brighter cleaner, bathrooms, newer... but no birthing pool, birthing aids at all just the bed and a ball.

The mw led floor was dated, non user friendly. They had a toilet in the corner with just a fabric curtain to pull around it.. Everything had been cobbled together. All the rooms were different so its pot luck what you get. It made me wonder if I should have a home birth but I really want the option there of pain relief/help.

Last night I had some really good lightning pains and later started with period pains but I wondered if the pains were a bit low and therefor stretching pains but they were very intense and they didn't ease of for a long time and now they come and go.

Ive got mw this am so will see if there are other options on where to give birth (so disappointed as hospital is only 5-10 mins away). Ill ask about bump/baby size/position.

catch up later x

I can't believe it is nearly August and that we're all starting to get into the final few weeks.

We were on holiday last week, and it was really lovely, but I've been struggling a bit since I got back. I think it is a combination of the heat, feeling really huge, being hormonal, easily tearful, back to work blues and trying to think about the final few weeks at work and the scary amount I need to get done. It all just feels a bit overwhelming Sad

Other than my emotional state, things seem to be going well. The nursery is now nearly sorted, pram is being delivered this week, and this weekend I'm going to make a start on the hospital bag list.

I'm really alternating between feeling like it is forever until the baby arrives and feeling like it is happening so soon it is quite anxiety inducing.

ilove - hope things go well today. I was thinking of you last week (no 3G at all where we were on holiday so I was totally unable to check the thread for a whole week!).

x

Ive seen the mw and I have to say she was really good, no rushing me off! She apologised for mucking up my bloods last time. She listened to my concerns about having a big baby- I explained about the HV comments, and the mw was horrified! Mw couldn't believe that a HV would think she could comment on my/baby size without even feeling or measuring and "did she (hv) think she was some kind of guru". haha

MW said baby is head down, not engashed though booooo, she did measurement me and charted it and she was happy that its following a nice curved line- I disagreed a bit as baby has moved up to 80th centile but mw assured me it was still normal and any sudden increase she will refer me for a scan.

We had a good chat about the hospital (I felt a right stuck up cow saying it was a bit grim! Blush but she seamed to think I could have the room and the equipment I wanted without any problems...subject to room being available of course! Mw suggested at next apt we discuss it further and put a birth plan together- she even booked a double apt!!

Having looked at my notes, Ive noticed that me blood pressure is dropping at each appt..anyone else have this? Its not been mentioned to me though..

karigan · 30/07/2014 11:47

Phew. Was referred for a growth scan last Friday as the mw measured and put baby well above the bornal growth line (she reckoned she was 5.5lbs at 31 weeks!) Just been for a scan this morning and she's 4lbs and right in the middle of the two lines. However she's still breech which is concerning as I really want to go to the midwife led unit down the road but they wont accept breech presentations.

I had the whopping cough injection on Friday- arm was a bit sore afterwards but not noticable after a few hours.

karigan · 30/07/2014 11:48

*normal

bugoven · 30/07/2014 12:47

Hello ladies.

I had a midwife appointment this morning and thankfully blood pressure is fine and urine was clear of sugar and protein. However, my feet, legs, hands and arms are so swollen that MW decided to refer me to a consultant just in case.

I was measured and am way above the 90th centile line but MW said baby's head is still free so this may explain why.

I feel so so huge. Going to waddle into work now

lilone1234 · 30/07/2014 14:21

white Sounds like your mw appt went well - it does make such a difference when you feel like you are listened to.

All appts should be that way really! Had my 34w mw appt yesterday and they were short staffed so she was discussing my birth plan while feeling bump and checking heartbeat - so I feel like none of it was done properly really! She forgot to update growth chart until I asked about it. Baby seemed quite a bit higher than 90th centile but have growth scan in couple of weeks - don't actually feel like my bump has grown that much in the last 2 weeks so don't think it was that accurate.

xxmissbrightsidexx · 30/07/2014 14:53

Hiya ladies x everyone okay?
Just had mw appt, bump is measuring 32 at 33weeks, head down & bum up let's hope she stays like that lol.. Got a scan coming up next week to see if she's moved from below 10th centile, if not I think they're going to want to induce me.. But the mw thinks if growth goes as it should then we should be looking at a 7lb'er x
