Oh and welcome Linds =)

topmammy · 25/07/2014 20:24

White thanks for the ideas! Didn't realise you could put the take away trays in the oven though!
I'm hoping to have a waterbirth - I've got a cheap vest top from Primark to wear and I've also put a sleepbra I got from Mothercare in for another option if I don't fancy the vest top. And if I can't have a waterbirth I've also put a cheap cotton nighty in my bag. Although if it's this hot I bet i'll just want to be naked! Will have to leave my dignity at the door lol.

bug Re. confirmation of mat leave & pay. I also submitted my request in April but by beginning of July had still heard nothing - despite also having spoken to the relevant person about it in May. So I emailed the person (school's accountant) and explained how anxious I was to still not have heard anything and also pointed out that according to the .gov.uk website where they state maternity laws/guidelines, that I should have had a reply to my request within 28 days. And miraculously I got a letter confirming my mat pay a few days later. Still haven't actually had confirmation of mat leave start and end dates mind, but according to my union, they don't legally have to do this. Bah, employers are crap sometimes, but we must stand up for what we are entitled to. Hope you get it sorted :)

bugoven · 25/07/2014 20:53

Thanks topmammy. My school accountant was an idiot who nagged and harassed me about proving my pregnancy with a MATB1 form from 9 weeks. She left Wednesday. I'll call HR again Monday.

whiteblossom · 25/07/2014 20:57

top to be clear I mean foil trays not plastic! Those would melt :-)

It's still far too hot. I had to have a banana covered in whole earth choc whip spread (non nutty, light and fluffy) lush. Mmmm

lilone1234 · 25/07/2014 20:58

Hello all!

Hope everyone is doing well - all sounding very positive!

Was my last day at work today - two weeks annual leave and then maternity leave officially starts 11 August. Had a lovely send off and got some absolutely lovely gifts! So many pink baby bits!

A fairly early start to maternity leave - am 34 weeks on Tuesday but my mind was just so off the job.

I really need to start getting sorted now too - all baby bits are in boxes/bags all over the place so need to be put away but for that to happen I need to actually get the nursery furniture built and not just pieces of wood all over the floor...

Also really need to get hospital bag sorted and make a start on the mammoth task of washing the stacks of clothes this baby has already managed to accumulate!

Very excited, but oh so anxious!

cookielove · 25/07/2014 21:28

I had in my matb1 form ages ago but only had the basic what % of my wages no actual figures, I didn't realise I should be getting that. Will have to get in touch with HR on Monday!

topmammy · 25/07/2014 21:29

Aah I see white - i'll have to get some of the foil trays.

Congrats on starting your mat leave lilone :). I can't believe i've been off a week already Shock the time is flying and still got lots to do.

Started washing baby clothes today - they look so cute on the washing line Grin

topmammy that is very cute! I cheated and tumble dried all of mine - but to be fair they were more likely to freeze outside the weather we've been having here. Hope you're all doing ok in the heat, it refused to get below 30 degrees here the week before I had ds2 so I totally sympathise :) I've been struggling to get the house above 16 degrees this week (no central heating here Sad, just a silly heat pump which blows out hot air in the living room and is somehow magically meant to heat the whole house Hmm )

whiteblossom I love sewing too but don't get much time to do it as always have a child trying to climb on me (mine are 6, 4 and 2) so it gets very awkward and not very successful at sewing in a straight line Grin I did make a couple of maternity skirts at a pattern making evening course I was doing (really good, taught how to make made to measure clothes by designing your own patterns, but I'm too exhausted by the evening to go now...) and I like making dresses for dd (^) when I get the chance.
I find knitting great (taught myself when pregnant with dc1) as I can sit and do it in the evening whilst watching tv and if the dc jump on me I can just put it down and come back to it. I've knitted a matching hat, mittens, booties and a blanket for the baby and a cardigan, plus going to knit this rabbit. I normally make knitted monkeys for friends' babies :)

Oh and I went naked for my (attempted) waterbirth with dc1, I got too hot wearing the tankini top I had bought, and couldn't have cared less who saw me! The water was amazing, highly recommend it, but I was in there for at least 8 hours though so I looked like a completely wrinkled prune and bright red by the end Grin

DearDinah · 26/07/2014 08:16

Wow a possible last thread, not been around for a while, I've been quite low :(
Finished work now though so should help, due 3rd September however I'm really getting worried about reduced movement, baby girl never was much of a wriggler but the past couple of days I've hardly felt anything. If I really tease her I'll get some moving about but I don't know if I should be worried it's not following the old pattern of tea time wriggles, wriggling after food.
Anyone else noticed a difference, I'm 34+3

lilone1234 · 26/07/2014 10:09

deardinah I'm sorry you're feeling worried! Midwives have said to me that movement gets less pronounced as time goes on as there's less space - so more shrugs and waves rather than kicks and jabs but that there should still be the same frequency of movements and that you should get in touch with the midwives if you notice a reduction. Baby is probably fine but it is worth getting checked out!

I have found too that when I have felt reduced movements I have become very anxious and that can effect baby's movements too, and once i've had some reassurance then she perks up again!

RedToothBrush · 26/07/2014 10:27

DearDinah, we had an unplanned trip to the hospital on Thursday, as on Tuesday I had a full on ninja which was unusual. I mentioned it at midwife appoint on wednesday, and she said to keep an eye on any changes in pattern, not just reductions (I was worried about baby being too active the previous day). Baby was quiet up til the midwife appointment, then made a fuss and then went silent. So Wednesday night I was panicking. DH said to see how it went over night... still nothing. I normally get beaten up when I wake up, but there was radio silence.

So panic stations. DH needed to call into work to make sure they knew what was happening (its on way to hospital), and of course baby started moving a little on the way. He called the hospital from work and explained the situation - including the fact that it had started moving a little again. They told us to still come in anyway.

Anyway, they strapped me up to the monitor and the little ninja reappeared. Typically. I felt really stupid, but they told me that coming in was the right thing to do. If only to reassure me and because that is what they advise now - any concerns with movement, just go and get checked.

Ninja has been in full action since Thursday afternoon...

ilovemonstersInc · 26/07/2014 12:13

Dinah hope it picks up for you soon.

top love the pic! I would love a garden like that!!

Very much fed up now of being pregnant Angry

DearDinah · 26/07/2014 12:34

Thanks ladies, I went to get checked & she moved loads while we were there, they scanned me & said the fluid around her is a bit low so I've got to go back next week to check it again, I'm pleased she's moved loads but now abit anxious about the fluid. I don't know what it means, they said not to worry so I'll just have to try not too.

topmammy · 26/07/2014 15:58

Glad you went to get checked Dinah, definitely the right thing to do. Sorry you've been feeling low x

Went to Argos today to buy a fan as I'm actually melting now but they are out of stock of every single type of fan they have on in their catalogue. Not one fan at all to buy!

Ice packs and ice lollies will have to do for now I think. Desperate to do some hoovering and ironing but it's too hot to do it lol.

KatharineClover · 26/07/2014 16:36

I feel very lucky that DS is of an age to love the paddling pool so I have an excuse to have one and get in it! I had a long soak in there for an hour this afternoon while he splashed about and I feel SUCH a lot cooler. :)
I've spent the last few weeks doing an online weekly shop like usual, then ending up putting things into the freezer as I can't face cooking. I feel so tired, plus heartburn and indigestion and I just want cereal instead of a meal. So I went to a small supermarket earlier and bought bread, salad, ham, cheese, and some 'cheat' foods that I would normally make myself from scratch like pizza and new potatoes with herb butter so I'm feeling happy food-wise too :) topmammy we have a big stock of ice lollies too!
DS and I are relaxing on the bed watching peppa pig and he has fallen asleep after all him leaping and splashing so I'm having a nice rest with my feet up :)
DS had the dentist yesterday (he is 3) and as he was good I let him choose a treat - in a charity shop we found a playmobil pirate ship and giant bag of accessories and about 25 people for £6! I am really pleased he chose this as it looks like a really engaging game we can play when the baby is here and feeding all the time.
DS has no more preschool til 2 days before my EDD, and I finish work on Wednesday so I've been making a list of activities we can do (planning for a busy morning and quiet afternoon each day).
Hope everyone is keeping cool and feeling well xx

LocalEditorBath · 26/07/2014 16:58

Congratulations to all Flowers

Anyone based in the Bath area? If you are and would like to meet another pg MNetter in the area also due in September. Would you pop over to here and say hello?

Thank you!

xxmissbrightsidexx · 26/07/2014 19:14

I went all over town in search of a big fan today and couldn't find one anywhere, then in wilkos OH saw this one for £8, it's amazing! You fill the bottom part with water so you can spritz yourself as well, gonna be using this a lot lol x

September 2014- will there be any babies yet??
topmammy · 26/07/2014 19:20

Oh my gosh missbright I need one of those! Will go there as soon as possible lol. I got a tiny 1.99 handheld fan from poundstretchers the other day but it's not brilliant. Wouldn't expect it to be for that price though. I'm currently sat in my garden in the shade cooling down after hovering and mopping the kitchen and living room floors!

xxmissbrightsidexx · 26/07/2014 19:21

It's brill even OH wants one lol xx I got a £1 one the other day and it only gives a teeny breeze, useless thing xx

Nazly · 26/07/2014 19:30

White I am planning water birth if a pool is free in hospital and that was my question too... I bought a £5 loose top from primark; the ones that you normally wear after swimming or at beach... I don't think I am going to be comfortable completely naked, so I take a mat bra with me too just in case...

I envy all of you who started mat leave already; I have another 3 weeks to go until I am 38W and such busy weeks too...

xxmissbrightsidexx · 26/07/2014 19:32

When I had my youngest I had a water birth & just wore a tankini top, going to do the same this time if I get to have a water birth x
