Thanks White - it turned up about 30 minutes ago, so I am happy now. (As is DH who now doesn't have to get the bus Grin )

CumbrianExile · 28/07/2014 19:42

Haven't really thought about snacks, initially I was thinking chocolate, but in this heat it would just melt. I still turn my nose up at fruit, but I might take it, if I get hungry enough I will eat it haha.
To be fair, the hospital I will be going to is in a heavily student populated area so there is plenty of places for DH to run out and get me food as I fancy it Smile

cookielove · 28/07/2014 19:51

I'm gonna pack cheesy oat cakes, as they are my fav at the moment and not really thought about it!

topmammy · 28/07/2014 20:59

Good evening ladies. It's been a bit cooler here today (slightly) which has been nice.

Sorry to hear your pains are back ilove :( I think your baby is just super excited about meeting you!

Visited a nursery today and going to look round another one tomorrow. It's making things feel even more real now!

I had a big cry last night as had been feeling low and in an odd mood all day, then started getting the wobbles about giving birth :( Feel better today though so I'm guessing hormones has a lot to do with it. I keep going from feeling quite positive about giving birth and having faith that my body can do it, to fear that I won't cope with the pain or that my pelvis is too narrow and baby will get stuck. Confused Hopefully I'm not alone in my mood swings!

whiteblossom I can empathise with the feeling fit to burst. I ate too much yesterday (my greedy own fault - had a Sunday dinner carvery and its all so yummy) and in the night got absolutely stuck on my back - an actual beached whale! Just couldn't roll over as it felt seriously like my stomach would rip apart. DH had to get out of bed and help pull me up Blush. I feel hungry most of the time though, but really need to remember to eat smaller meals now!

Topsyloulou · 28/07/2014 22:14

Ilove I hope the pains have settled down again. Is it this week you've got your sweep?

Had a non stop weekend hosting a BBQ for 40 people & 15 of them staying over! My washing obsession means all the towels & sheets are already clean & back in the newly sorted airing cupboard, just need my vacumn bags to arrive to put the rest of the stuff in the loft.

Also started on the nursery tonight. Started taking the double bed down while DP was at work so he'd have to finish it tonight. Cot bed is up, nursing chair is in & I've got the decorative bits up too. Still lots to do but nice to have made a start.

Lalalax3 · 28/07/2014 22:28

35 weeks today. Due Sept 1st. HURRY UP!

Nazly · 29/07/2014 00:03

Hello all; who asked about bf? Was it you Ella? I've just been to nct breast feeding class and they told us you can start expressing during pregnancy as soon as your breast will produce colostrum but it would only be very small amount a few spoon maybe which could be invaluable if your baby is born premature or unwell or can't latch on immediately for some reason ; she also told us you can start expressing properly almost immediately after birth. I am planning start expressing soon; don't want to be feeding 24/7 if I can manage ; she also sent us some links for info; if anybody interested let me know and I'll double check and share these

Who was asking about snacks ladies? I read everything so quickly can't remember... This is my big question too: I know it'd better not be sugary because it gives you a boost of energy but energy doesn't last enough ... I know whole food stuff is better; I also know it should be light enough for digestion system; now what that would be?!?! Can't think of anything with these descriptions I fancy!!! Anybody who's seen sth nice in supermarkets can you share? x

And one last question if I may ladies: who has bought a bouncer and what did you buy? Those with previous experience is it a must? What should I look for when buying? There are as always so many types... Just can't work out what I should look for....

Nazly · 29/07/2014 00:09

Topsy woooow!!! BBQ for 40 people and 15 staying over?!?!? Are you a superwoman??!?! Can't imagine it would be easy even when not pregnant; but these days I am so tired after work, I can't even cook for two! Also do you have a palace how do you fit so many people in overnight

Topsyloulou · 29/07/2014 07:02

Wish it was a palace! Combination of spare rooms, air beds everywhere & a tent on the lawn. Was lovely to have everyone but it was also lovely when they'd gone by 12pm on Sunday!

whiteblossom · 29/07/2014 08:10

Topmammy I think its normal to have these fears I think you have to tell yourself that this is what we are designed to do. If you give birth in hospital you have all kinds of pain relief on hand and the mw will look after you.

Topsy that sounds like a riot! I love it when everyone piles in, its such fun. You must be knackered now though.

mrsgembles couldent agree more 33+3, Im desperate to be early!!

naz I just wanted to mention that there in conflicting advice as to expressing while pg. Please please all double check with your mw first. It makes the uterus contract and bring on early labour-so Ive read. I noticed at my pre-natal classes a few of the mums had been on the nct classes and the mw poo poo'd a lot of what they were saying. So do what is right for you. This caused a lot of confusion in class!

You might not want to feed 24/7 but your breasts will still produce the milk so will end up pumping anyway- There may be someone on here who can give you more informed advise on that.

Ive bought a baby bjorn bouncer as it lasts until they are two, you can alter the height/bounce and it gets rave reviews.

Snacks, Im thinking flapjacks, sainsburys sell individual wrapped ones and some bananas..? looking for more ideas though.

Im getting lots of Braxton hicks, period cramps that come on quick and go just as quick. I need to start sitting more upright, and getting baby in position. Ive got mw tomorrow so will check baby is still head down and mention that silly HV, and baby/bump size.

Im still looking for an Activity mat/gym so any suggestions?

cookielove · 29/07/2014 08:22

Wow that is a lot of people! topsy

Got two days off this week, today and thursday, gonna hopefully do a bit of sofa shopping today!

cookielove · 29/07/2014 08:34

White we have two blossom farm ones at work, I believe they are ELC range, one is a hard plastic frame that has three toys hanging from it and a mirror at the side, whats great about it is that you can lay the baby down first and then place it on top and later when the baby is sitting up place them infront of it. It is also easy to clean, but a pain to store as it doesn't fold down. like this one, although this is wooden
We also have a mat one like this one which is great cause it is nice and soft, you can use your own toys on it too (I can tell you how if you get one) ita fabric so you can wash it, or aponge clean it, although we have shoved ours in 5he washing machine loads.

Does that help?

whiteblossom · 29/07/2014 08:39

oh thanks cookie, Ill have a look at those now Smile

DH said he will pick up the pushchair/car seat next week. eek.

ilovemonstersInc · 29/07/2014 09:31

This isnt fair now :( thw amount of pain I was in last night was ridiculous. I know theres more to come and all that but still cant believe how much rhey have let me suffer! Contractions were every 7-5mins and even the bath, hot water bottle and paracetamol didn't help.

Got pain now on and off.
If it can hold off then ok I see the consultant tomorrow and will say ive had enough. If I get pain like last night will go up and say ive had enough Angry

Ps you dont want your babas at 33weeks. They would need steroids via you (injection in the bum!) And they would need to stay in NICU/ SCUBU

ilove sorry to hear that you are having such a tough time!

karigan · 29/07/2014 10:08

Regarding what people are th8nking of wearing. I got a gym/sports top thingy from Asda for £6 the other night as I'm far too warm sleeping in a normal pyjama top and I think ill be wearing that in the birth pool. (No wires but very supportive so its incredibly comfortable)

We went to our first antenatal class yesterday. Has anyone else been really disappointed by them? Probably due to excessive reading but there wasnt anything discussed in 2.5 hours that I havent already learnt from mumsnet/books. Plus in a very weird moment the woman leading the course suggested getting our partners to chinese burn us as 'practice' for contractions. O.0

topmammy · 29/07/2014 10:11

Snacks wise for hospital bag I've packed 2 boxes of jaffa cakes, a box of Maryland cookies and some nuts. Also going to add some flapjack type bars as I've heard that oats are good for your milk supply! as well as good for energy of course.

I was thinking of getting a baby bjorn bouncer too as I've been told by a friend that they are more stable than most bouncers and don't fall over half as easily.

white yeah I will keep telling myself that my body can do birth... just hope my hypnotherapy CD might help me calm down about it too.

It's not hot here (yet!) woohoo!

ilovemonstersInc · 29/07/2014 10:16

Thank you cookie
ive been trying to get the things I want to get done out of the way today (fridge mainly) and normal household cleaning done. Still not had breakfast!

Top its cool here today! Some rainclouds in the sky yay!
Also top did you know horace from the other thread had herbaby?

topmammy · 29/07/2014 10:18

Yep ilove I'm on the FB group now too so have heard all about Horace' s baby boy, he's so cute and tiny!

whiteblossom · 29/07/2014 11:23

Karigan I was thinking of popping into asda to get a bra top, £6 sounds ideal. Yes antenatal classes were useless. I suspect the tour of hospital will be better/more informative. Im hoping to do this tonight.

top ive found the hypnotherapy cd really good already. It just re-enforces that what we experience is normal and natural and to just relax. I had some very sharp pains the other night that had me sat on the edge of the sofa, I immediately reminded myself to relax, go with the flow, breathe etc etc so something is going in!

Ive managed to blitz the bathroom this morning and dh & I decided that a cleaner would be a smart move for 3 months once baby is here.

Hang in there ilove.

lucidlady · 29/07/2014 12:46

Hi everyone so sorry for sporadic posting but flat out at work. I've been reading and keeping up to date though!

ilove hope all goes well with the consultant today

nazly I BF DD for 14 months and the general wisdom is not to express until baby is at least 6 weeks old. It's also a lot less hassle to BF than to express - I think I expressed for the first time I expressed Dd was 9 months old and I was going back to work! A good source of info is kellymom.com. Don't put yourself under too much pressure in the early days, just take your time to decide whether or not it's for you!

Hope everyone else is doing well. I'm 34+4 today and off to see MW this pm. Baby has gone from 60th to 87th centile in last 4 weeks so getting a bit nervous about size!!

misog2000 · 29/07/2014 12:57

Karigan I didn't really learn anything new at my antenatal class but my husband found it really useful so it was worth us going. We are very lucky in my area to have a specialist home birth team and it was their antenatal class we went to so it also helped back up what I had told him about safety things for me and bubba and what would happen if I needed more pain relief etc (as I think he thinks I make it up sometimes Smile)

Work is so stressful at the moment it's actually making me feel a bit ill, only two more days this week thank goodness (never thought id see a day off to move house as a rest!) and then my boss is back next week from her hols, think I'm going to have to tackle her about the amount of pressure being put on me as it's just not fair, I have several colleagues at my level who don't have anything like my workload. I also need to start putting together handover notes etc but it's just not going to happen if they don't stop loading urgent projects on me!

KitKat1985 · 29/07/2014 13:49

Hello all.

Ilove sorry to hear you are still suffering. :( Hope the consultant tomorrow can help. xxx

Misog definitely talk to your boss when she is back next week. It's not fair that you are being put under so much stress that it's making you ill. xxx

I've just finished packing my hospital bag as am 33 weeks tomorrow so wanted to feel a bit prepared in case baby decides to arrive a bit early. Also I'm off work this week so was a good time to be able to sit down and concentrate on some stuff.

Also nursery is nearly finished now!! DH and my brother spent most of Sunday on it so now all the painting is done, curtains up, furniture in etc. There's a couple of little bits that need doing (putting some pictures up etc) but they're details really. Only thing not done is cot assembly as DH was given an old cot bed by his foster brother but now it appears that a few of pieces are missing from when it was converted into a cot-bed (from a cot) and so now it doesn't look like it'll be possible to make it into a cot again; so we may have to get another one. I'm not too stressed about this though as I guess baby will be in our room in a moses basket for a while anyway so we have plenty of time to sort this out.

Snack wise for hospital I've put some small cartons of orange juice in my bag and some packets of plain belvita breakfast biscuits. I figure I'll need a bit of a sugar boost but am planning on staying away from anything chocolaty / sickly sweet as I've been warned a lot of women get quite nauseous in labour and so want a sweet energy boost snack that isn't likely to make them feel 'icky', and as I survived on belvita biscuits during my first trimester nauseous stage so I'm hoping they will do the trick again!

Had my whooping cough vaccine yesterday. I have to say it has made my arm feel quite sore but it's better than yesterday which is a good thing. Hoping it will feel better for tomorrow as it's my birthday and all I know is that DH has booked the day off work and that he has planned something but I'm not allowed to know what it is until tomorrow. Intriguing!

Also we have our first NCT antenatal class on Thursday so it feels like a very baby-orientated week!

Hope everyone else is doing okay. I have to admit it has cooled down here in the south-East during the past couple of days and it's lovely not to feel so hot and sweaty for a change! xxx
