Last thread nearly full.

Will we get to meet any of these babies soon?

Aisha I had a tough birth with my son and it would have hugely upset me to have had him away from me. The first night I just needed to hold him and look at him and feed him. Even the next day, when his photo was taken (a company comes around and does it here - a bit intrusive but that's another matter!) my hand is in the photos as I couldn't bear not to be close to him. However, I didn't sleep much that night or the next few and was a bit poorly - I can see why they would suggest it if you are unwell, but I don't think it should be compulsory (especially as here you can be home in 4 hours following a straightforward delivery).

Sorry to hear you didn't get the room finished ella. Could you compromise and just take down some paper to have a feature wall if necessary?

aisha where are you giving birth? It sounds quite old fashioned to me,
and I agree it shouldn't be compulsary. DD2 had breathing problems when she was born and spent the first night in SCBU, it was honestly the worst nights sleep I've ever had just wanting to be able to cuddle her and have her close to me. I guess having her brought to you for feeds is different though, but seems odd because I've always found the first couple of days they sleep well, the only reason you wouldn't sleep is because you'd be feeding them.

Evening ladies x everyone okay?
Need a moan, have had the worst backache since yesterday night it just won't go away, hobbling about like an old lady lol :( xx

dontevenblink · 10/08/2014 22:03

Hope everything's going well top and ilove!

Bex I've had sharp pains down below for all of mine when I get past 30 weeks ish, it's just been baby putting pressure down there - it is horrible though!

My waters have broken at home twice whilst I was in bed, but they didn't go with a big gush, just a popping sort of sound and then they dribbled for ages, so luckily didn't destroy the mattress! We had a waterproof mattress cover on too though.

Hope you manage to get the room finished Ella

Aisha I don't think any hospitals in the UK take the baby away into a nursery, and they don't here either in NZ where I am. I wouldn't have liked it all personally as I just would have worried about my dc and not slept, so wouldn't have helped me much Grin. A friend of mine here, however, had her dc1 in Mauritius and they took the baby away into a nursery and just brought him back to feed and she liked it and was disappointed that they didn't do that here, so I guess it does some work for some!
I had a C-section last time and they let me keep dc3 in bed with me so I could easily feed him and cuddle him, and they helped me with nappy changes if I needed it. I didn't find I bonded any less with dc3 compared to my 2 vaginal births, in fact I was a lot less tired this time (had two traumatic births though) so felt a bit more able to stay awake and stare at him :) I did find the recovery longer with the C-section but I managed to look after my 2 dc (3 and 1 then) at home once dh went home after 2 weeks and do a birthday party for dc1 2 weeks later, so wasn't too bad.

Quick question - those of you that have had more than one C-section, did you find the recovery worse the second time?

theonlyseven another one having their 4th dc :) That's 3 of us on this thread! How old are your other dc?

topmammy · 10/08/2014 22:07

Good luck ilove glad things are finally happening for you after you've been in constant pain for ages x
Welcome aisha :)
It's my last week of work this week, so cannot wait to go on mat leave, been incredibly tired and emotional this past week! I've got some physio booked in this week too as have had terrible spd, so really hoping this helps.
bex I've been getting the pains down below like you baby really feels like he is so low kicking me! But hoping he is engaged, midwife hadn't really said an awful lot when I saw her on wed, just that he was really low.
How's everyone else doing? Wonder who will be next after tops and ilove?!

Teabiscuits · 10/08/2014 22:21

Iatesome I'm all good thanks. Steroid jabs have been given as they are possibly looking to induce at 37 weeks (this Saturday) due to slow growth and past pregnancy history, it's all down to the consultant on Weds!

Ilove Hope you keep progressing, nothing worse than a long latent phase x

Hope everyone else is ok, awaiting news from top!
