I didn't know the HV comes to see you before baby is born....whats that about?

Its about being a massive pain in the arse, making you even paranoid than you already are, and making you completely nutty over making sure the house is vaguely presentable at a time when its the last bloody thing you feel able to do.

Cynical, but tell me I'm wrong

ilovemonstersinc · 04/08/2014 10:37

They are trying a new thing. The hv wants to come and do the maternity questionnaire and I said no I dont havetime lol

I haven't heard anything about health visitors so i'm guessing this isn't done everywhere? I need to ask about post-natal care next time I see midwife - no idea what's meant to happen.

Went and bought pram with DP's parents yesterday - Britax Affinity. It's very easy to move and does forward and rear facing and can use carrycot and car seat too (which we've had to order separately as the store is closing down so had very little left in stock!) It's quite chunky though, but DP liked it because it seemed sturdier than some of the others that are in vogue so I am slightly concerned about getting it on and off public transport because of the fairly wide back wheels, but they all seem to be like that now! It's the only one we could work out how to fold in the store too!

By bedtime though my pulled groin/hip was very stiff and I ended up in tears because I got stuck on my back in bed. So pathetic! I think I had some BH yesterday as well - at several points bump went very hard and a bit tingly?

Re those have the clear outs! My bowels have been exhibiting this sort of behavior since mid pregnancy on and off - it's a complete pain, so I do sympathise!

topmammy · 04/08/2014 11:18

Yeah I don't think the HV coming before baby is born is standard everywhere but they do it here. Lol Red I am literally trying to muster the energy right now to clean the house in prep for the HV tomorrow so I think you're right!

white I get the exact same hip/thigh thing, it's quite painful isn't it!

Well which room shall I clean first, kitchen living room or bathroom? Choices choices! Hmm

WishUponAStar88 · 04/08/2014 12:02

Excited/ a little envious for those packing hospital bags already. I'm not due until the end of Sept so only 32 weeks... mad that some of you ladies are due in just a few weeks!
Over the last couple of weeks I've started leaking a bit of colostrum, is this normal so early on does anyone know? It's not masses, probably just a few drops from both sides each day.

holls2000 · 04/08/2014 12:29

Wish - I am 32 weeks but my mw told me to be packed then I didn't have to panic should anything happen - we are away for lots of weekends at the moment so I think this is her way of making sure that I am vaguely organised.. I haven't had any leaking at all, which worries me.

White - I also get the hip thing, bloody agony it is too. I miss sleep.

No one has mentioned HV to me so assume they don't come here before things happen. I hope not cos house needs a BIG spring clean....!

RedToothBrush · 04/08/2014 13:06

It was only mentioned to me to expect a call from them because of my anxiety. I'm not sure they necessarily mention it to everyone. They are supposed to be in touch after 36 weeks. So far, not had a call. I'm dreading it tbh. I've been trying to sort the house little by little for the last 3 weeks and it still looks like a bomb has gone off.

TeamEponine · 04/08/2014 14:59

Had a growth scan today. She is still quite little, but continuing on the same growth trajectory, and placenta looks fine, so they said not to worry. We're booked in for another one in two weeks time, but if that looks the same they have said no more.

The travel system was delivered last week, but I've not even started thinking about packing a hospital bag or a birth plan yet. I guess that will be my plan for next weekend!

Haven't heard anything about a HV visit, so I'm guessing they don't do that around here.

Hope everyone is doing okay!

Thanks holls will have to get round to packing in the next few weeks then I reckon! Have read mixed things on the internet about milk coming in early, some seem to say it's fine others that the hormones can induce early labour :s

ilovemonstersinc · 04/08/2014 16:53

Wish you can induce labour if you start trying to squeeze your nipples (expressing) but if it leaks on its own it's ok. My bra was full of milk the other day lol. I stunk of it and ds2 kept trying to bite my boobs and hes not had titty since he was 3months and hes a yr old now lol.

Team glad to hear they will let her stay put for now

yes girls hospital bags packed please Grin

Hello all :)

I am so tired, I would love to be asleep all the time but my body is mean and is refusing! !

I'm doing better now, the cramps are still there I struggle to move but its not so constant. I think that it will like this from now on!

KitKat1985 · 04/08/2014 17:34

Hello all.

Sorry not checked in for a few days and not had time to read more than the past page in terms of posts so I hope everyone is doing okay.

Midwife phoned this afternoon to say my urine sample showed I had an infection and she will get my GP to write me a prescription for some antibiotics. Feel a bit stupid now as I knew I didn't feel well but just put it down to pregnancy whereas if I had called my GP or something when I first felt unwell it might have saved me a fortnight of feeling poorly. Plus I feel quite guilty as apparently untreated UTIs can cause problems like low birth weight and premature labour so kicking myself a little bit for being so 'oh I'm a bit under the weather but I'm sure I'll feel better soon' when I should have dealt with the problem and not ignored it for so long.

P.S. In the south east apparently you don't see the health visitor until about the second week post-birth. Am sure the house will be a tip by then but I'm sure they are used to seeing houses get a bit untidy in the run-up to babies appearing / post-birth so I won't stress about it.

CumbrianExile · 04/08/2014 17:55

Top I had the health visitor a couple of weeks ago. She only came into the living room, and did use the toilet, but didnt want to look anywhere else if that helps prioritise your cleaning Wink
I was a little worried about it, but it was fine, it was more to introduce ourselves and she explained a little about the role of the health visitor. Also gave me some leaflets too.
Another one with the hip issue, its really annoying as I am struggling to sleep as it is!

Teabiscuits · 04/08/2014 18:30

My health visitor came to visit about 2 weeks ago, because I have a history of pnd. Mine is lovely and doesn't seem to notice if the house is less than tidy. She wasn't even phased when she pointed out that DS was eating rice krispies off the floor that the older ones had dropped earlier Blush . By and large I think they are ok, and if you don't get on with yours you can ask to see another, or not see one at all.

kitkat don't worry about the infection, you weren't to know and its being treated now. I've had bloody loads of them in all my pregnancies, they're really common. Hope you feel better soon though x

Loving being in Cornwall, lots of pasties and cream teas Grin . Starting to get a bit edgy about impending scan. Looking at holiday snaps I can see I'm looking really tiny for 35 weeks. It's out of our hands though and it is what it is. Movement is still good so here's hoping we've gained some weight.

Hope everyone is ok today xxx

Pregnantberry · 04/08/2014 18:40

My HV came a couple of weeks ago, she just gave me loads of leaflets about breastfeeding, SIDS, nutrition and sure start stuff. Most of the time she would lead on to something like "have you thought about how you are going to feed your baby?" and I would answer that I was planning to EBF and she would look satisfied, hand me a leaflet and move on.

A lot of the things she said seemed like they were intended for mothers who were a bit clueless/had done zero research but she had to mention them as a kind of "catch all" thing.

Nazly · 04/08/2014 18:53

Found my hospital notes :) they were in the reception in the hospital...

Topsyloulou · 04/08/2014 18:56

Evening ladies. Had a letter from my HV about making an appointment before baby comes if I want one, going to wait until I finish work now. Definitely differs by area as at my NCT class at the weekend we were from 3 different counties & only 1 county did pre birth visits.

Am absolutely shattered. Really need to slow down & rest but so much to do. Work is incredibly stressful & exhausting. My boss left on Thursday & left everything in a right mess that I now need to try & sort out before I leave in less than 3 weeks. The leg cramps I was getting one or two nights a week are now nightly at least & I'm struggling to get back to sleep after. Not too bad when it's 5.30 am but it was 3am the other morning!

We've got the britax affinity too. I love it. Keep getting it out of the garage & pushing it round the garden!

I've started getting stuff out for my hospital bag but not got as far as packing. Have washed two loads of baby clothes over the weekend so at least he'll have something to wear.

whiteblossom · 04/08/2014 19:47

Hubby has collected and just put together the pushchair (uppababy) It looks fab but its big! Im sure Ill get used to it though Grin

Its so exciting!! Car seat and base still in boxes at the mo. I collected a snow suit from Next today only £10 (reduced from £25) in the sale and its lovely, I bought 0-3 months so hopefully that should be fine.

Hubby has now gone to show off his new car to my parents! Bless he's so excited about it.

Tomorrow the batch cooking starts, curry in the slow cooker, lamb tangine in the oven and HD spag bol sauce on the hob.

tea Im envious of you in cornwall, we love it there and often talk about buying somewhere with a sea view. One day eh! Good luck with the upcoming scan x

Kitkat I second what tea says Smile don't beat yourself up, with my first pg, I didn't even know I had an infection but at least you know you will start to feel better now! x

cookielove · 04/08/2014 20:06

Ok I am an idiot, did my sugar check earlier and used a tissue to wipe away the excess blood, I usually just lick it off! Had the tissue in my hand and went to the loo, wiped myself with said tissue and then had a mini panic that i was bleeding and had gone into labour Blush took a minute for me to realise I am a twat!

nazly glad you got your notes back!

white mmmm your food sounds yummy!

No hv appointment for me, must be in the wrong area!

TeamEponine · 04/08/2014 20:24

Yay Nazly!!!

topmammy · 04/08/2014 20:26

Glad you found your notes Nazly phew!

How long do you reckon is ok to leave your frozen meals you're making in the freezer white? I am going to start some batch cooking soon but not sure if I should wait a bit longer or not.

Managed to clean the kitchen and living room and the floors downstairs. Didn't get to do the bathroom as my back was killing and started getting mild period pains again. Will have a quick bathroom clean in the morning instead!

Had a nice bath to soothe my aching muscles but then got a bit stuck in the bath and had a quite funny few minutes sloshing about, with DH trying to help me up without me slipping lol.

Just bought this for baby:www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000FFL58Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Been looking for one for a while, heard good things about this one and its nearly half price on Amazon at the mo! :)

holls2000 · 04/08/2014 22:31

Yey Nazly!

I have started my batch cooking today. Today meatballs and tomato sauce and burgers (esay for DH to sort). Tomorrow cottage pie I think.

Just had first NCT session, really enjoyed it and feel a bit happier about things.

dontevenblink · 05/08/2014 00:15

I need to do some batch cooking, but I've got to sort the freezer first ad its only small and I'm sure there's stuff at the bottom that's been in there far too long!

Is anyone else on a mad cleaning frenzy? I've been sorting through and cleaning anything I can find! I'm finding it strangely satisfying, although my 3 dc are trying their best to thwart my efforts Grin Does mean that by time I go to bed I'm so exhausted sleep isn't a problem...

I'm getting burning pains in my ribs as baby is so high up, and that combined with sharp pains down below doesn't make for the most comfortable of times!

Just saw midwife and all seems good at mo, fingers crossed it stays that way Smile I get really paranoid about the baby being ok, keep thinking I can't be so lucky to have 4 healthy children... I worry far too much, just want to meet baby now and see they are ok.

Hope you all get a good nights sleep x
