I've written a list of things to put in my hospital bag, haven't actually bought any of it yet though. I can't believe how many maternity pads we need, I was thinking a pack at most! Torn between disposable breast pads (which might stick, ouch!) and plasticky ones. And also whether they're needed at all for the hospital, so much conflicting info out there.

I was hoping to fit everything in one holdall, but I suppose if we need a dressing gown, towel etc then that'll be bulky.

ilovemonstersInc · 02/08/2014 20:45

Acorn I would do 2 bags. 1 for you 1 for baby?
I went for disposable breastpads and im glad I did as I leaked loads! At1 point I leaked that mucj that it looked like someone spilt something on both sides of me!

Oh my word, I will have to buy many, many, many more maternity pads.

In other news it is PROPERLY chucking down here. It's like monsoon. Can't see the road from the window...we had been out. Thank goodness we got home, would have been a scary journey.

Ella, hope you are ok.

cookielove · 02/08/2014 21:22

Ella call your midwife or maternity unit, they will be the best people to advise you. The reason they asked for me to come in was because i was in lots of pain.

holls2000 · 02/08/2014 21:45

I agree, Ella, if you are at all unsure, give them a call - that's what they are there for. Xx

Can't quite remember who was asking about tens machines but I have hired one, it'll be delivered probably next week sometime. Might be no good but I like the thought of having the option.

I've just about finished packing my hospital bag. I have used a nike holdall type bag for me and I got one of those oversized bags from primary for baby's things.

About whether to bring bottles/formula incase of problems with bf, I was wondering about that too. So I've put a box of ready to use pre sterilised mini bottles of milk by aptamil. Hope not to need it but at least they're ready to go if necessary.

Ooh I haven't put socks in my bag yet though so thanks for that reminder lilone . Just a thought, have you packed a flannel? Might be useful to mop your brow with a nice cold flannel during labour if you're feeling hot?

Hope you're feeling ok now Ella I have had a couple of episodes of period typepains, it's a bit unnerving! Have you tried a warm bath to soothe it?

whiteblossom · 03/08/2014 08:06

ella how are you feeling this morning? Your describing what I had a few night ago, very intense but I was fine the morning after...

My hospital gave me a list of what I need to take and they say 25 maternity towels, as well as my own bath towel and hand towel and a towel for baby! They also recommend 8 nappies per day. So all bulky stuff- ill be taking a wheelie case so when we leave dh can carry carseat with baby in and I can just pull the case.

I stepped on the scales this morning and Ive nearly/just about hit the two stone mark and yet ive 5 weeks left.....salad anyone..

My belly button is now half outie, its weird. I have NO MORE ROOM for this baby!!

Ive going to try reflexology, a mw recommended by the hospital does it, Ill wait until next week/week after and tell her bring on labour! I want my body back, I want to exercise, Non of my tops fit anymore.

Hello lovely ladies hope you don't mind me checking back in again - I lost you all as I am no good at keeping up with threads Sad

I am (today) 34 weeks. got midwife appointment tomorrow so will be interesting to see how I am measuring as been measuring ahead for the last 6 weeks! bump is huge and has visibly dropped - which is exciting - but I am finding this pregnancy so much harder than my last tiredness wise. I think it's because my DS is having his Summer Holiday before going into reception so I am doing stuff with him to make it special before he has to share me with his baby sister. lots of days out in the sunshine and walking around - but he is a high energy 4 year old so hard to keep up with!

is there a September fb group? could someone make one? I find it much easier to keep up with fb Grin

good luck and cooling wishes to all of You. ilove I hope you are doing ok x

holls2000 · 03/08/2014 10:56

My bag is vaguely done - I've done one for me for labour, one for baby, then another one for me for after. However...I need more maternity pads and formula incase breast feeding doesn't work.

Find myself waking up in the morning in a complete panic...then have to sit up and prod tummy to make baby move. It's so ridiculous. Have growth scan on Tuesday and will feel a bit better then I hope. Have occasional pulling pains at bottom of bump but think that's just when I overdo it. I need a Doppler attached all the time to keep me sane.

Hope all well - Ella, been thinking about you.

Hello everyone, we are on holiday in Cornwall so not had the chance to keep up with everyone.I've skimmed through the last week of posts, hope everyone is doing as ok as they can, Thanks to everyone who's struggling.

So we are having to cut holiday short by 2 days to get back for another growth scan. We had one on the day before we left and baby had dropped down on the centiles for growth, and is only estimated at 4lb. When we go back if things haven't improved we are likely to have baby at 37 weeks. If things are really bad they will likely admit me on the day (I will be 35+6). They have to be extra cautious as I had a small baby last time and the placenta abrupted (very serious). Luckily my amazing in laws are here with us and are going to take care of the kids until they all come home on Saturday. I can't believe there's a small chance we could have baby out by next Friday night! Confused.

Anyway, I'll try to have a proper catch up later when I can get on the WiFi. Love to everyone xxx

holls2000 · 03/08/2014 17:09

Bloody hell, they like to worry us, these babies, don't they? Was a bit worried that movements reduced, then DH reminded me had felt plenty this morning and then been bumbling around which generally means I don't feel them. Had lemonade, sat down, bit of a wiggle, then suddenly off we go, thumpers thump thump. Roll on scan on Tuesday, think I have got myself worked up over nothing.

Thank god I'm not the only one Ella. I swear I am going loopy. I think life takes over so when you notice a luck you think it's the first one of the day....I'm so bloody paranoid.

Nazly · 03/08/2014 21:29

Tea fingers crossed for you... Let us know how it goes...

Hope everybody else is OK? It is amazing we haven't had any babies in this thread yet, netmums Sept thread had two till now...

My BH have been a lot better in the last two days that I was more relaxed and I no longer feel that anxious ... The only thing is I can't quite follow baby's movements because some days he is too active and some days quite... My GP told me 10 movement a day but I know that is an old advice and nhs now doesn't recommend counting but monitoring change in movement patterns... Which is difficult to follow...

I am 36 in two days and really need to pack my bag properly now... Baby stuff is unwashed and I only have one pack of maternity pad and no towel, socks, hand held fan, spray, toiletry, slippers; oh wooow I don't have lots and lots in there then... I haven't ordered Tens as yet either... And tomorrow work and stress starts again...

Does anybody else get tired soon these days? People keep telling me I should walk but honestly I am really tired after 10 minutes of standing and doing normal things... Is it normal?

I have asked dh to plan our last long weekend getaway next weekend; I am going to be nearly 37 weeks... Was it stupid of me to ask that? It is all now paid for; so hope baby doesn't just turn up!!!

topmammy · 03/08/2014 22:02

Hope all goes well with your scan Tea :)

Nazly I've been on mat leave since I was around 35w - I'll be 37w on Tues so not very far ahead of you. By the time I've got up in the morning, had a shower, done the dishwasher and put some washing on the line I'm pretty much knackered so I'm not surprised you're finding work a bit tough Thanks Bless you.

When do you start mat leave? It'll be easier to monitor a pattern in baby's movements when you're not distracted by work, that's what I found anyway. I think a weekend away with your DH sounds like a good opportunity to relax so don't worry about it, just take your notes with you just incase. I'd prioritise with the hospital bag for now I.e don't worry about washing baby clothes if you really don't have time, it's not absolutely essential. I've only done it to give satisfy my nesting needs lol. Just put a few things in the bag that you may already have so then you'll start to feel more ready.

Well I'm fed up of my gut now lol Without fail every single meal I eat (sorry TMI warning) ends up in a clear out type loo dash. Haven't had a normal poop for days now. Better than constipation I suppose though. I reckon it must be the nerves around my uterus getting twitchy causing the problem as these nerves serve the bowel too so I learnt at antenatal classes! So glamorous lol.

I've got the health visitor coming for the first time on Tues. Anyone know what to expect?

Hope everyone is feeling ok!

Hi everyone! Been a while since I've had a chance to post, but been keeping up on all the news. Sorry to hear some of you are having worries and some of the babies are being a bit troublesome. Ella hope you are feeling better and tea you are having a great holiday and that everything goes ok for the scan. How are you doing now Cookie? And welcome to the newbies :)

Interesting to hear all about the packing of hospital bags, I had mine packed but now I'm going to repack as I've got a few more things now. I'm only packing for after the birth though as having a C-section, I've packed one bag for the first couple of days for me and the baby and another for DH to bring in when I need extra. My snacks for after the birth consist of two big bags of chocolate at the moment Grin I don't think I actually used anything in my labour bag the first time, as I didn't realise that the hospital where I had dc1 and 2 in the UK don't let you eat during labour at all (despite being the MLU not the consultant one), might be worth checking if you can where you are. I went into hospital on the Monday eve with dc1 and she wasn't born until Tuesday evening so I was absolutely starving by then!!! With formula, my hospital had cups/bottles of formula available if you needed them so you might not have to take anything in.

Can't believe I am 35 weeks today and my C-section is only 4 weeks away Shock I can't get over how fast time is flying....! I am also slightly scared about how I am going to cope with 4 children on my own (no family here at all and DH works very long hours...) I'm hoping it'll just become normal after a couple of months... [hopeful emoticon!]

Nazly · 04/08/2014 00:58

Thanks Top, I'll start mat leave at 38W so in2 weeks but not sure if I can actually manage the whole two weeks... My bump is huge I feel and just sitting, walking and keeping balance is getting difficult...

Top I have the same issue with going to loo too many times but I am just glad It is not the other way around as you also said... I am just assuming there is no more space in my body to do anything normally any more- including digesting food !!!

Ladies I lost my pregnancy notes and I am worried!! The only place I could have left it is at the hospital in my last appointment; but what if they can't locate it any more :( don't know how that happened :(

holls2000 · 04/08/2014 07:50

nazly just give them a call I bet they have them. Don't worry.

after the stresses of yesterday I am going to have a quiet day today. start ante natal tonight which is a bit nerve wracking.

does anyone know if I need a full bladder for 32 week scan? bladder doesn't seem to hold v much anymore and baby haa habit of plonking itself on bladder to make me think I need a wee.

have a good day everyone

ilovemonstersinc · 04/08/2014 08:27

Tea hope the scan goes well

top hv will probably introduce herself and ask questions about you and your dp. She will prob give you leaflets about what to expect after having baby and she will talkaabout what her role is.

Holls you shouldn't need a full bladder as baby is big enough

naz I would ring and ask. I lost my folder but have my main notes so not so bothered lol

ella I have to get ds1 uniform. Its his first as he starts nursery at primary school. Ive got his polo shirts from school just need his shoes, socks, vests and trousers. All else fails I can get them online but planning on getting a few things each time I'm out. Most likely going shopping tomorrow so will pick vests socks and maybe a pair or 2 of trousers up.

morning everyone, hope you all had a good weekend.

I packed my hospital bag yesterday and Im in full on clear out the cupboards mode Grin However I don't think it will last as Im knackered!! I didn't sleep well last night, I find that my hips and thighs go numb and I have to roll over- which is near impossible but then the other hip/thigh goes numb. I cant wait to sleep on my front again. I still feel like there is loads to do.

I didn't know the HV comes to see you before baby is born....whats that about?

Right I must get on Grin
