Hi,

I've finally got my BFP and want to find others who want to chat and eat cake whilst being excited about cooking our little dragons.

I am 31yrs old, just got my BFP for #2.

Come in and sit down for the next nerve racking 9 months :)

Woo hoo! Congratulations cowbiscuits Grin

Lindalove · 14/08/2014 15:12

Hey LadyNovember I get why people get upset about the whole single child thing, but I think it has to be considered in the context of that child's life eg are they in a city/likely to make lots of friends anyway and be well socialised? Will they/do they have cousins so they will have extended family? It does depend on the child of course - if they are a introverted child maybe having another one or finding a way to help them is essential.

Of course I would like to have the situation where I can have more than one but its just things like a good education especially in London cost a fortune. Also we have a three bed terrace and that's all we can afford in London without living in a rough part of town - no complaining, I live in a lovely part of London, but it does mean that if we had two they'd have to share or I'd have no office. Anyway this is all just hot air at the moment anyway as I only apparently have a blueberry sized bean in there at the mo anyway!

prevlurker123 · 14/08/2014 15:37

Can I join the thread....bfp yesterday 1-2 weeks!!

PollyBirdy · 14/08/2014 16:48

Welcome prevlurker - huge congrats! So exciting to see even more people on the April bus :)

Lovely to see lots of us Londoners on here too! I've got my early 6w scan at the Fetal Medical Centre in London on Monday. It costs £100 which seems totally worth it, as there is no way I could wait until 12 weeks!

cinnamongreyhound · 14/08/2014 16:49

Envy of all of you with scan dates before me!!

Thanks for stats, all that have contributed! What's a stats thread BinarySolo? I mean the name is explanatory but what's the reason behind it?

Great news BrixtonBunny!!

Try not to worry Misty414, all was good with your scan so you have that reassurance.

Congratulations PollyBirdy and cowbiscuits and prevlurker123!

I don't think you'll ever know what's right or not for any child. My ds2 loves his brother and other children but despite me going back to work (childminder) when he was 3 weeks old so he's always been surrounded by a lot of children he often takes himself off to his room. I know I can't afford a lot of things I'd like to give my kids even with one so we'll get by with what we've got and actually they have everything they need. Hoping as times goes on we will be in a better position and be able to give them more opportunities but if we can't then they'll be fine. My dh is 15 years older than me and his niece and nephew are 23 and 20 so not great company for my two and my brother isn't ready for kids so they won't have the cousins I did. They do have plenty of kids around but this baby is definitely about my needs and not there's so quite selfish really! I worry all the time about the impact on our family, dss 13, ds1 7 and ds2 3 but we will adjust I'm sure unless it's twins then I will cry and cry and cry

prevlurker123 · 14/08/2014 16:52

Thanks for the welcome! You are the only people who know so far!! Feel so daunted but taking a few days to let it settle in before phoning docs etc. Hoping this thread is a great help over the next nine months! Congrats to you all too:)

Afternoon everyone.

Glad your scan went well Brixton.

Had my booking in appointment today (early because of things that happened last pregnancy). Went well but I just can't relax into this pregnancy yet. Trying to keep any excitement at bay for now.

Is anyone else thinking of paying for any screening tests? I think we're going to get the nifty test done for peace of mind.

PollyBirdy · 14/08/2014 17:48

Oh my god, the clinic have just called to say I can have my early first thing tomorrow morning (someone else cancelled) - eeeek!

I'll be 6 weeks exactly, am hoping we can see a heart beat that early? Has anyone had an early scan that has been inconclusive and maybe been asked to come back a few days/weeks later??

prev - me too, I'm using this group as a substitute for telling my friends! I'm seeing them all this evening, so will have to perfect my teetotal excuses :)

PollyBirdy · 14/08/2014 17:49

I meant 'early scan'....

LadyNovember · 14/08/2014 17:58

What's the benefit of having an early scan (I.e 6 weeks)? Is it any reassurance or are things just as likely to go wrong if they're already going to? If that makes sense ha :/

ladyflower23 · 14/08/2014 18:08

Hi everyone new and not so new.
Cisfor glad to hear you have a nice doc who has given you some nice drugs and hope you will feel better now...just remember to not get paranoid that you are feeling better Wink
Brixton yay! COngrats on your successful scan! Must have been lovely to see the little HB. Re the NCT classes, the girls I met at mine have been an absolute lifeline to me since we had our babies. I still meet up with 2 of them every week with our kids and all 6 of us have had joint birthday parties for the children the past 2 years. Been so lovely.
Ladynovember yes it's basically for reassurance and 6 weeks is usually the time that a heartbeat can be seen and I believe that once that's been seen the chances of something going wrong drop quite a bit (but still a chance something could go wrong up till 12 weeks when I think it goes down to about 1%). Come on 12 weeeks!!!!!!!!!!
Still no call from midwife with booking in or scan date. The referral form said could take up to 2 weeks, by which time I will be 9 weeks and really panicking that won't get seen in time.
So many Londoners on here. Anyone from Sussex??

I have never paid for early viability scans, but have had plenty due to previous problems, suspected ectopic and bleeding. I think it does help to see that tiny bean on the screen and it certainly calms me down.

Starting to get cravings. At the moment nothing too onerous, raw sugar snap peas and crunching ice cubes!!! Anyone else? With Dd1 I craved sour sweets until they made my mouth really, really sore!!!

Oh wow misty, that is great to hear about the heartbeat. I have everything crossed for your little bean too.

ladynovember - yes, exactly as ladyflower says, it is just for reassurance. They check that everything is progressing as normal and also check for twins/triplets, and for ectopic pregnancy. Although if they find something wrong I'm pretty sure there isn't anything
they can do about it - I would just rather know rather
than get my hopes up. I've been TTC for 3 years, with
failed ivf too (I have polycystic ovaries), and this is the
first time I have ever been preggo. So it is great to know
I can actually get pregnant, but people with PCOS are
one of the groups with higher miscarriage risk
apparently - something to do with low progesterone levels not being able to maintain womb lining. So seeing a heartbeat would an amazing step in the right
direction for me.

Have a good evening everyone, lots of bean dust to you all :) x

PollyBirdy · 14/08/2014 18:46

Good tip squattingneville - I will check those out! I heard doctors don't recommend trying to find the heartbeat yourself in case you can't find it and panic, or find your own instead of the beans! But I have never used one myself so would be interesting to hear how easy you found it to use? I worry if I got one I would freak myself out the whole time with it!

ladyflower23 · 14/08/2014 19:29

Hi Polly. Are you going to ask your doc if you can get prescribed anything like progesterone pessary or anything to reduce risk? Just wondering as friend of mine has pcos and she was prescribed that but hers was from a private clinic because she had iui treatment to get preg. Not sure if nhs would prescribe but maybe worth asking if you're worried?

CareBearWithFangs · 14/08/2014 20:02

Polly it must be a really worrying time. Hope your ok and get some reassurance soon.

I'm tempted to get an early scan just for a reassurance but £80 seems like a lot of money for reassurance I know won't last longer than a week.

Grrr post fail!

Cinnamon the idea of the stats thread is to keep the chat a bit more readable and uncluttered. I think quite a few post natal groups on here do it.

My first midwife appointment isn't until next month. Feels like ages away.

evenhasawatermark · 14/08/2014 20:37

Good luck to everyone on this thread, I hope you enjoy the upcoming months, unfortunately for me this time was not meant to be.

lila35 · 14/08/2014 20:47

Great news on your scan brixton, what a relief!

polly I have pcos but pregnant via ivf so am on progesterone till 12 weeks.

ladyflower I'm in Brighton, currently under the fertility clinic but think i get thrown back in the system as long as all is well next week with my scan.

Felt very unpg yesterday but today bleeeuugghhhh, tired, nauseous and headache, really hope this is all a good sign, I was so worried yesterday and its smacked me in the face today!

LadyNovember · 14/08/2014 20:50

So sorry to hear that evenhasawatermark. Wishing you every success for the future months xx
