Jump aboard ladies.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
TwigletFiend · 21/07/2014 12:55

Afternoon, ladies. Glad I'm in good company in suffering in the heat - the days I can cope with, but I wish it would cool down at night! That and the humidity are hideous. I hardly slept Friday night because of the storms here, then couldn't sleep Saturday night because it was just so hot and stuffy, then last night woke up at about 1.30 to find that we had bloody sodding boar digging up the verge outside the house, making the loudest, squealiest noise possible. They left at about 4, which is when I finally managed to get back to sleep. Gah! Emotional wreck today.

Greenstone, I also seem to pee out more than I take in. Down to about 3 loo trips per night now, but frankly that's more than enough. It's also a fatal mistake not to pee just before going to sleep. I then wake up after an hour or so busting and have to waddle to the toilet with my knees locked together. Good for the old pelvic floor though!

RE nursery furniture, I was in Ikea at the weekend and they have some decent things in there that aren't too expensive. Some of their dedicated nursery stuff doesn't look great, but there's quite a lot of 'normal' stuff that would be perfectly useable in the nursery - there was a lovely chest of drawers that was quite wide and quite short, about hip height on me. DP and I agreed it would be a perfect storage/changing station unit!

Am I right in thinking it's ok to paint furniture etc. if you use a special paint? Our crib is coming second hand and it's wood that has been painted white - would quite like to sand it down and repaint it to match my colour scheme while I still have the energy! Is baby safe paint expensive, and does anyone know of any brands that are particularly good?

amylou85 · 21/07/2014 12:57

I am! Either up weeing, or up because my hips are so so painful and I have to turn myself like a spitroast bloody chicken every half hour. I have come to terms with the fact that sleep from now until - oh i dunno- baby is 13?? is not going to be blissful anymore!!!

Annarose2014 I was exactly the same as you, I had the fear of buying things. It's hard to explain but for me buying things meant that I was acknowledging it was definitely happening and I wasn't ready to accept it. Even with my belly growing it all still felt very unreal and I wasn't ready to let such a big thing take over my brain!
However, probably in the last couple of weeks and with a mighty push from DMIL taking me baby shopping against my will, I got into it (mostly because she was paying!) and got some vests and a blanket etc. I was still a little wary but since going pram shopping and nursery furniture shopping I think I am becoming more at ease, you just have to take the plunge I think or get some one to go with you so it doesn't seem quite so overwhelming!!

ToniWol · 21/07/2014 13:57

amylou - we've gone for the Pioneer - I think I'd have been happy with the wayfarer but our local shop had an offer on where you got a free change bag and parasol with the pioneer (and they'd cost about £70 for the two) so my Mum almost insisted we got the heavier duty chassis.

Need to clear out the nursery - it's currently my craft room and also has our evening wear wardrobe in - but we're sticking with the décor as it is. Green walls (currently a light foresty green, but painting mint green) and a rose coloured carpet - and we'll get some bright stickers for the wall. We're looking at the OBaby B is for Bear furniture. PIL are paying for that and the same shop we're getting the pram from has quite a good offer on the cotbed - we're just waiting for the single wardrobe to be delivered to the shop to confirm out decision (and it's quite handy that this shop will deliver when we want - not when they say we can).

barmy - Also having fun with the heat here - hardly slept Saturday night and still feel worn out despite having a nap yesterday. However one of the managers at work has recommended a cool pack for the feet - so am going to bung a wheat bag in the freezer tonight when I get in and see if that works.

blamber - I got that the other night - found that my wheatbag (heated this time) eased it off though. Have slept with my knees bent and the pillow between since then and it hasn't come back.

moggles - I'm finishing at 36 weeks (with the week before off with the last of my A/L if I still have it). So that'll be end of September I finish.

Hope everyone else is feeling okay - am constantly getting beat up and Blueberry seems to be liking the music when I rest my iPad on my bump!

PosyFossilsShoes · 21/07/2014 14:48

I'm up at least 2 or 3 times a night to wee as well. I said to DP yesterday that it will be less frustrating when I'm getting up for an actual baby who will be a little dependent being with needs rather than just to wee which seems like a waste of valuable sleeping time!

Got my 24 week GP appointment this afternoon which should be useless entertaining. This is the GP who when I turned up there to tell them I was pg (which is what you're meant to do before 8 weeks, and I was 5, so thought that was about right) looked at me uncertainly and said "Oh." {long pause} "Er, congratulations?" and I had to ask for BP, hospital referral etc!

I've got 2 things the MW told me to speak to the GP about (I think this was probably just a case of making it the GP's problem as it was the end of the day) - one is a referral to the ENT sleep clinic, I've had a chronic snoring problem since I was 18 months old connected to ENT problems and it's getting worse, meaning the sleep I get between wees isn't good quality, and the other one is that I have a couple of peculiar lumps emerged and I want to check that they're benign.

Who wants to guess whether the GP says "talk to your MW…"?

Alita7 · 21/07/2014 18:18

Yes I'm still up weeing lots, and then eating too :p I wake at least 5 times more nights, but some of this is because I've developed a habit of drinking when I wake too so now I feel thirsty. And I have a psychological weeing issue In that I have to wee just before going to sleep or leaving the house etc and I'm a very light sleeper so I wake up lots anyway, particularly if dp comes in later than me.

PosyFossilsShoes · 21/07/2014 18:47

Haha I do that having to wee before going to sleep or leaving the house too, in our household that's known as a "precautionary wee" Alita!

Annarose2014 · 21/07/2014 19:29

I feel a bit rotten today too - nobody told me that movements could make you feel nauseated! Baby is flipping and flopping like a washing machine and I could only face mashed potato for dinner!

I was longing for movements for so long....never imagined the queasiness! Rather dreading three more months of this, much as its nice to know baby is enjoying himself in there.

Have also started having to take a nip of Lactulose. Am not constipated, but unusually for me, can't go when I feel I need to. Have to wait a few hours. Meanwhile you're walking around feeling like you need to go and its so annoying. So here's hoping the Lactulose eases things. Errr....so to speak. Blush

So between one thing and another - am just not right! And long shifts for the next two days - ugh.

Where is this energy boost they promised me?? This sudden burst of horniness and vitality??! Talk about a SWIZZ!! I DEMAND A RECOUNT!!! Grin

FTMK · 21/07/2014 19:40

Evening all. Hope Mrsd and Brandsnob are doing ok. Good news on all scans and gender news or not! I've broken up from school but have done a bit too much I think. Have developed one sided lower back pain tonight which is shooting down my buttock. I've had back trouble before and it was niggling a bit this last week but tonight it's really sore. Hurts when I walk, twist or sit. Have taken 2 paracetamol and have an icepack on it but it's throbbing. Worried now that it's the start of something that might last another 20 weeks! Going to give the midwife a ring tomorrow and see if she can refer me for physio. Anyone know if she can? Failing that off to the GP or private chiropractor appointment. Anyone else suffering?

TwigletFiend · 21/07/2014 20:32

FTMK, am also suffering. Yes, MW can refer you to physio, though there can be quite a wait for appointments. In the mean time, be careful when you lift anything and try to keep your back flat as much as possible; tense your bum cheeks as you weight bear on the painful side to help support the hip joint. I have just ordered a support belt too - mum is a retired physio and she says any extra support, whether its external or muscular (bum cheek clench) will help to ease the joint. It is shit though, I thoroughly sympathise. It gets me sometimes as I go to step on my left foot, either makes me freeze or my knee buckle, which is quite alarming.

AnnaBananaBoo · 21/07/2014 20:33

Evening ladies...please can I join your lovely thread? I'm expecting DD1 on 12th November. I'm in south east London/Kent border. Likewise, I'm getting very nauseous from all the movement at the moment but loving the reassurance of feeling her move so much!

FTMK · 21/07/2014 20:49

www.bournelocal.co.uk/news/health/health-news/your-news-tips-to-relieve-pain-in-your-joints-1-5938226

Twiglet - Have just done the thigh and side of leg release on this and it has been somewhat miraculous - got up without stabbing pain. Haven't done the lying on back ones but the side of leg one made sense as I have been getting bursitis in hips since about week 9 which gp just said I had to live with - makes sleep tricky but the pins and needles have progressed to leading in afternoon even when not lying on my side - just standing or sitting, so releasing those muscles would seem to be linked. Might be worth a try? Still going to ring midwife and if it's bad again tmro might have to ring my chiro who I haven't seen for a couple of years!

Hopeful83 · 21/07/2014 22:01

Welcome Anna! I'm in the south esst london/kent area too. Finally someone else my neck of the woods. Congratulations. Is this your first? What hospital have you opted for? I'm going to the PRU

ladydolly · 21/07/2014 22:17

Ftmk I have it and am waiting for a physio referral. The only thing that helps is swimming so I go every day. Its really painful the days I don't make it.

We cleared out mamas and papas at the weekend. We went to the outlet in York. Just IKEA wardrobe and drawers to get and 4 tonnes of crap out of the spare room.

AnnaBananaBoo · 21/07/2014 22:18

Thank you! :-) I'm at the PRU too! Yep, will be my first. When are you due? Your first?

pinkgirlythoughts · 21/07/2014 22:22

Haha at the 'precautionary wee!' I seem to be weeing constantly- going to the loo religiously before I go to bed, when I get up in the morning, again before I leave the house for work, again when I get to work..... half the time I don't think I actually need it, I just convince myself that I'm desperate!

Annarose, the movements do take some getting used to, don't they? It changes as they get bigger though, I remember feeling sicky and uncomfortable with DS (and I do with this one too), but later on in the pregnancy, the movements felt completely different.

BrandSnob · 21/07/2014 22:24

Thanks everyone. Feeling much better now. I think it was due to baby deciding to turning head down far too early. He was back to lying sideways by the afternoon and the quivering disappeared. It came back today for a little while, but at least I know now it's nothing to worry about.

The only thing bothering me now is my horrible swollen cankles and feet, which arrived on Thursday with the heat wave. At least I can guilt trip hubby into giving me lots of foot rubsWink

bunnykitten · 21/07/2014 22:29

Apologies in advance for the rant!

I had my 25 week midwife appointment today. Except my midwife couldn't remember why she wanted to see me, as she said normally you see a doctor at the 25 week stage (as if I would somehow know this!?). Then she looked at her notes and decided it was because I couldn't feel the baby at 18 weeks, which wasn't an issue she made me aware of at 18 weeks. She still hasn't had my blood test results back from the 12 week scan. And then to top it all, she filled out my Mat B form which I need to submit to work this week with today's date instead of my due date, so the form says I am due THIS WEEK!

The Mat B form is just a handwritten form, do you think I can just change it myself to the right date? I just can't face going back there again!

moggle · 22/07/2014 08:01

Oh bunny what a pain. maybe ring her and tell her the mistake, and she might be able to do another today and post it to you or leave it at your surgery? Alternatively if you have a pen the same colour I can't really see the problem with amending it yourself.... There is a gap where she puts in the date of examination, has she def got the dates wrong? My midwife had to leave mine at the surgery cos I wasn't going to see her till 28 wks.

Miskate · 22/07/2014 08:19

I have my 25 week appointment today, so that doesn't bode well bunny! I'm sure it's supposed to be with a midwife - I haven't seen a doctor since my booking in??
Anyway, I don't have my notes or my precious vial of wee so will have to go home first. Stupid appointments! Stupid baby! (not really)

moggle · 22/07/2014 08:45

I'm in the same PCT as bunny and we do see the GP at 24 and 32 week check, think it is just to lighten the load on the midwives. I know there are a few of us in the same area- if you are too Miskate I'm sure it'll be fine!

Miskate · 22/07/2014 08:51

I'm in Wales where everything is weird.

ladydolly · 22/07/2014 08:56

LOL @ miskate

I also have my 25 week appt with midwife and wee is safely stored in my lunchbox bag (gross - it's in a bag though). Work have been chasing me for Mat B1 form but I get it today don't I? I haven't been sent it and missed it have I?

utopian99 · 22/07/2014 09:24

I'm not sure about changing it, although have filled in date before both times when they signed the form but left date blank.. Bit of a muppet putting today's date!

blamber · 22/07/2014 09:32

I'm seeing my midwife at 23 weeks, was supposed to be 22 but it got postponed. She should give you your mat b1 form. I don't think they send it.

Petal26 · 22/07/2014 09:34

bunny I would just change it myself!

I know this has probably been asked already but does anyone have a recommendation for a support belt?
I have been suffering the last few days with a stitch-like pain below my bump on the right hand side when walking and moving around during the day (although woke up with it at 5am yesterday morning, can't decide if that was just because of a wee or not!)

Been feeling quite sick again, must be all the movement going on inside :-(
I'll be glad when he's a bit bigger and can't flip, or whatever it is that is going on!!
