I've missed so much! Will try and catch up later but just a quick post to say all fine at scan this aft and we're having another girl...eeeek! Grin

pinkgirlythoughts · 18/07/2014 21:51

Haha Alita it is pretty funny, but I'm quite worried he'll break the thing before baby arrives!

utopian99 · 19/07/2014 08:57

We looked at the uppababy vista for height too, although went for stokke in the end - so many people comment on how nice it must be for him to be so high, even now! (And it doubles as a high chair when out and about.)

mrsdj sounds like you really are having a time of it! Glad you are being looked after though..

we didn't watch obem with ds and still don't. I remember what it was like but would rather not go over the gory details too much!

PosyFossilsShoes · 19/07/2014 09:21

pink is it the sort you can take the sides off, so he can lie on it if he wants but doesn't have to climb?

Venus2 · 19/07/2014 16:59

Whenwill, in regards to nursery furniture sets, I got the Europe Baby Vicenza White from Kiddicare. We put it together last weekend and are so happy with it. It is very sturdy and could even be used till teenage years (the wardrobe and chest of drawers) all you have to do is remove the second hanging rail to get adult height clothes into it. Kiddicare often have sales on their furniture sets but be warned it takes about 6 weeks to get it.

Whenwillwe3meetagain · 19/07/2014 18:39

Venus thanks so much for the recommendation it looks really good so will go and have a look soon. We we're thinking about grey and this comes in a nice shade. Many thanks!

Hello ladies, I'm very hot and bothered today and rib pain is driving me nuts - the consultant prescribed me strong painkillers at 20 week appointment, but I took them once and they made me feel a bit spaced out, which alarmed me. So, then I googled and there was all this recent stuff about paracetamol being linked to ADHD so it's just an ice pack for me now. Hmm
Please could someone send me the link to the Surrey meet-up, I can't find the thread!
Thank you! Grin

Alita7 · 19/07/2014 20:43

Sorry I can't link from my phone :( as im on the app.

Vicky5910 · 19/07/2014 21:21

Just marking my place, don't post much anymore just so busy!
I'm 21 weeks and scan confirmed team... Yellow! ;) I read a lot just don't comment much, hard to keep up with you lot!

Annarose2014 · 20/07/2014 10:08

Morning all!

I have a really stupid question. I've been reading a lot & asking a ton of questions of all the mums I know and they all say to get baby used to "nighttime" i.e. Keep everything dark and quiet so it realises the difference between day and night. And also that putting on the light at night wakes them up (unsuprisingly)

But i've also been reading that you shouldn't change their nappy every time they wake up during the night unless they're actually wet. A dry nappy doesn't need to be changed and you're just interrupting their sleep!

So my stupid question is how on earth are you supposed to check their nappy in the dark???? Confused

Alita7 · 20/07/2014 10:21

Anna I think they feel different on the outside when wet?

amy83firsttimer · 20/07/2014 10:38

A wet nappy would feel heavy I suppose? (educated guess).

Also Ellie the thread is called movement berks Surrey meet up and it should be high in the list of antenatal threads now :)

barmybunting · 20/07/2014 16:59

How are you all coping with the heat? I am very glad not to be in 3rd trimester in this heat but still finding it rather hard going!

utopian99 · 20/07/2014 17:22

Anna a wet disposable nappy feels squidgy - the gel that absorbs the wee swells up, a wet reusable one feels less springy..

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 20/07/2014 17:32

After a few weeks only change nappy at night if v heavy with wee or baby has done a poo helps with trying to get them to sleep longer.

Alita7 · 20/07/2014 18:05

It's just too hot! Especially on buses!

BrandSnob · 20/07/2014 18:54

Hi Ladies, just popping in to say hello.

Went into hospital this morning as I've been having weird quivering/vibrating sensations since yesterday. Felt like it was my cervix or something else deep down there. They only last a few seconds and are not painful, just weird and different to normal and I haven't felt them before. Called the hospital and they said to come in for a check. Urine test, swab feel of tummy, plus a check of my cervix and nothing to report. I'm glad the midwife and doctor were totally relaxed about it all and didn't make me feel like I was wasting their time. I'm glad they said the cervix was firmly shut as I'd been worried something was wrong.

It was lovely listening to my little Jellybean boot the hell out of the Doppler though Grin

MrsDowneyJunior · 21/07/2014 00:51

There's the obvious smell test, especially with cloth nappies, you can smell them a mile off, but disposables you become and expert at sniffing their bums and knowing what's happening, and also it becomes a routine you'll know how long after a bottle before they do a wee. If you pick them up it feels heavier and fuller, if it's a big full bottle wee.

amylou85 · 21/07/2014 06:24

amy83 pinkygirlythoughts I am totally going to do the teddybear test when I get a sling now! I want a cotton type one too, not keen on the bulky ones where you look like you're about to set off on a 10 mile hike.

Twigletfriend I'm finding the nursery decorating ideas tricky. I had been adamant after watching 'Secret life of babies' to go for bold colours like a jungle theme, and was never really keen on girly pinks. However, my mind has completely altered after seeing various gorgeous baby pink rooms on pinterest etc and I now want a pink one with white butterflies and hints of browns etc. I really don't understand my mind and how it can make such a big switch. I'm all over the place! Next week I might want a space theme for all I know!!

Kate393 Congratulations on your baby girl! and Vicky5910 glad your scan went smoothly.

Annarose Your nappy checking question made me giggle. I assume we will become pros at it within a few days and will just know instantly like Mrsdj says, I'm hoping so anyway!

In terms of furniture I know what you mean, so expensive and such similar styles i'm getting all confused. I have a Mothercare outlet close to me and they do ex display models much cheaper, but DP saw a small scuffmark and turned his nose up! Which is interesting as he is usually a complete money saver. I can see our daughter wrapping him round her tiny finger.

My two buggy choices after a very fun (for me) pram shopping expedition are silvercross pioneer and babystyle oyster 2, both very similar and two of the only ones that will fit in my little yaris. The oyster is about 100 pounds cheaper tho, so that could be the winner, although silvercross is the make which DMIL loves and she's paying so I'll let her decide!

I'm just so excited all the time and all I think about is her and what it'll be like and life when she arrives. I must be so boring to talk to, babies babies babies. Do any of you remember what you used to talk about before all this? I can't!!!

Anyway, been up since 5 as madam made me hungry so I'm going to start highlighting baby girl names from my book in hope it'll make me sleepy. Sorry for long post but wanted to make sure I responded to everyone! xx

blamber · 21/07/2014 10:22

Brandsnob I'm glad everything is fine!

I've been having trouble with my left hip. It hurts when I lie on it most of the night, but now it has also started being painful during the day. If I twist it it really knacks. I'm seeing the midwife on Thursday so I'll mention it then.

weeonion · 21/07/2014 10:37

Good morning all!!

A local holiday here so a day off work with a lie in - bliss. I have a mum and daughter day planned with DD - our first full one together since her Ireland vacation! :-)

Brandsnob - what a day for you. Glad it all worked out well and staff were lovely.

Annarose2014 · 21/07/2014 11:03

So you can tell a wet nappy by feel? Oh that helps. The only experience I have of nappies is on adults! And you definately can't tell by feel - sometimes by smell though! Grin

We have a big chest of drawers in our baby room, and aren't going to get anything else. I have sat in those nursing rocker-type chairs with the footstool and they were heavenly. But also bloody expensive so am holding off until baby goes into his own room. I imagine they'll always be in stock in the baby shop.

I'm also still scared of buying stuff! So stupid as I feel quite big movements every day now. Not consistently, but at least once a day I'll feel him doing his little workout. Considering my seemingly enormous anterior placenta I feel so lucky to feel him at all!

Is anyone else scared of buying anything? I honestly haven't even bought a babygro! We've gotten a lot of hand-me-downs and I'm clearly using that as an excuse!

moggle · 21/07/2014 11:03

Just put my maternity leave form in :-) all makes it seem pretty close now! Decided to start my leave at 37 weeks (oct 27th) but I'll have at least a week of annual leave off before that. I have some more days to use up too, can't decide yet whether to take another full week or use them to have some shorter weeks leading up to finishing.
We'll have moved house in September so there'll be plenty to do. I'm thinking a couple of weeks of doing stuff and them a couple of weeks of lazing around... Assuming baby doesn't come too early of course :-) Can't wait for a break from work!

Greenstone · 21/07/2014 11:30

amylou, I was doing a little bit of painting in my DD's room this weekend and it really brought back memories of getting her bedroom ready the last time around. We didn't know what we were having and went for yellow, duck-egg blue and purple colours in there. I was obsessed with beautiful pictures of nurseries online!

The reality has turned out to be a little different. I think someone mentioned in an earlier thread about the nursery gradually filling with a jumble of primary-coloured toys/gifts - well, that has definitely happened here and has rather interrupted the lovely soft colour scheme...I'm sure that some people do manage to keep their nurseries in exquisite showroom condition but we haven't quite figured out how that one works. Still, DD's room (after a good clean this weekend Blush) is lovely and bright and cheery and she loves it.

I think I mentioned before that we bought an Argos set of wardrobe, drawers and cotbed as it was the cheapest we could find. We painted the cot white and the other pieces duck-egg, which improved things a bit - but honestly, the quality is so shit I despair. The cotbed has been fine because we got a good mattress for it, but the wardrobe and drawers are disastrous. I had great ideas of finding beautiful hardy vintage pieces on Ebay and updating them - that's another thing that never happened...ah well.

Knackering weekend here of family stuff, I feel like I'm sitting down for the first time since Friday! MIL has just called in and told me off for looking so pale. I do feel pretty tired but sleep is still eluding me...anyone else still up weeing all the time - Alita?
