Jump aboard ladies.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Blamber I sleep on top of our duvet and it really helps the hip pain (I get really hot so sleep with just a sheet while DP is under the other side of the duvet) and a friend has done the same thing, helps with hip pain.

I've only had a couple of massages before but highly recommend the preggie ones, I've had 3 now and plan to have a few more before (and maybe after) along with reflexology. Like strawberry with that and the swimming and stretches it's the only thing helping my back pain (which my rather helpful midwife said there was nothing I could do to help)

Just wondering, maybe a stupid question, I live in a flat, I don't need a monitor do I? I mean I'll always be right next door to wherever she is!

blamber · 21/08/2014 16:06

Lady I tried that! The mattress has a memory foam layer, on which is a double folded duvet with a double folded fleece blanket on top and still! I have a long maternity pillow and small ones as well for posture. I think my hips just stick out too much! Hopefully that'll be an advantage during labour though :)

weeonion · 21/08/2014 16:14

blamber - i have been using my ball for posture and optimal foetal positioning (!!). I just got a gym ball from argos - £6.99 so no ned for a proper pg one which costs about twice that. Get the 63 or 65 inch one ( dependent on height - you can get a bigger one but you woudl be v tall for that to be suitable). Our knees should be below hips. i use it to watch tv on to prevent sofa slouch.

ladydolly - another flat dweller here. i still had a monitor - even though dd was in with us for 1st 9 mths. i used it during nap time and more for my reassurance than anything!

off for whooing cough jab!

weeonion · 21/08/2014 16:15

whooing cough????

whooping cough!!!

ladydolly · 21/08/2014 20:12

Oh blamber, rubbish! Maybe you're hips don't have enough padding, go and eat some cake and see if it helps :)

LOL at whooing cough!!

Friends to stay this weekend that DP invited therefore I'm making him do all the prep work I normally do. I can hear a lot of sighing along with the mopping...

So I think I'll wait and maybe get a 2nd hand one at some point.

moggle · 22/08/2014 10:22

Hi all, sounds like we are all starting to get pretty organised for our new arrivals! We at last have a date for our house move in the first week of September, as we exchanged contracts on Tuesday. Hooray! So hoping I can start buying a bit more baby stuff after we are in the new place. Gotta hand it to DH he has done everything for this move as well as dealing with a tricky time in his job and organising a big group holiday at the same time, so brownie points to him!

We are on said holiday at the moment, in Spain. It is v hot but with the air con and frequent pool and sea dips it's just about perfect. Best of all the hotel has super comfy beds and the pillows are really long so I essentially have three pregnancy pillows on the bed- I'm sleeping better than I have in ages. Plus I love my bump in a bikini - don't have to worry about that little bit of flabby tummy anymore! All in all, having a very nice relaxing time :-)

Annarose2014 · 22/08/2014 10:31

Ooh moggle so jealous!

Mrs Wombat adorable pic! Isn't it amazing how much they're filling out!

I had Physio yesterday for my pelvis. I had sciatica last week. She gave me a couple of "arse pain" excercises. You lie on your back, put one ankle on the other knee, and then pull that knee towards you. It stretches the arse muscle.

Also another one is to lie on your side with your ankles together. Then open your knees a bit. But not too much as then your hip will roll back, and its very important that its pointing up at the ceiling the whole time. That strengthens the arse muscles.

Greenstone · 22/08/2014 11:57

lady don't overdo the swimming if you have sciatic pain. I did during my last pregnancy because I kept hearing about how good swimming is for sciatic/back pain - well, it's not, in fact, and it really aggravated my pain. When I rested for about a week I was so much better (it's hard to do it though if you are in a routine of going to the pool/for a walk regularly - you have to force yourself to stay put!).

No chance of overdoing it with this pregnancy. For work busyness reasons I've been stuck to my office chair for most of it :(

Went to yoga last night and it was the first time I really didn't enjoy a yoga class of any kind. I was very twitchy with my restless legs and it was too slow and talky and I was deeply uncomfortable trying to stay still during the relaxation part. I was positively fantasising about my old heated yoga class where you get a really lovely workout and then those blissful ahhhhh moments on the mat at the end! It made me resolve to start going to those classes again as soon as the baby is sleeping reliably for a stretch in the evening. From 6 months seems a reasonable goal...I hope!

MrsDowneyJunior · 22/08/2014 12:08

If anyone has September's Mother and Baby magazine?, p69, could you pretty please snap a photo and post it here or email it to me on [email protected]? Ta muchly! I'm bedbound & can't get out at the mo!!! Smile

weeonion · 22/08/2014 13:05

ooh mrsd - is it you in the pic???

I dont buy those kind of mags but hopefully someone has an issue for you.

moggle - hope you are having a fab time....

MrsDowneyJunior · 22/08/2014 13:32

Heard a rumour DD1 is in it... not sure though!

MrsDowneyJunior · 22/08/2014 14:06

Yay! Got it off... erm.... oh bugger what's her name on here??? One of the Facebook ladies! And that's my munchkin! 8 years ago, but it's her! Smile

pinkgirlythoughts · 22/08/2014 16:06

Ooh, I sometimes get Mother and Baby, I'll have to have a look :)

I went to an antenatal class at the Children's Centre this morning, and they played a DVD about the work that they do there. DS and I were in it, from a baby group I went to when he was tiny! I don't even remember a camera being there at the time, but they were really focussing on me and DS, as I was new to the group that day and the nursery nurse was explaining it all to me. It's not quite the same as Mother and Baby, or the Bump to Breastfeeding DVD, but, hey, I'm famous for five minutes, in my own town at least ;)

bunnykitten · 22/08/2014 22:28

Catching up on messages!

Vicky I feel the same as you. Someone said to me that I didn't seem to be enjoying my pregnancy. What with the nausea and exhaustion it hadn't occurred to me that I was meant to be enjoying it!

MrsWombat Lovely photo! Seems so real!

ladydolly I'd be so annoyed with having guests over a month before my due date. I'm trying to stop people staying over already!

On the tena lady pants, I ended up googling them as I couldn't face asking my colleague why his wife needed them for her hospital bag! Sorry in advance if TMI, but some women and midwifes swear by them for the first few days after giving birth to be sure that no blood leaks out. The pants seem to be used either on their own or with maternity pads. Then after a few days people seem to use maternity pads and then sometimes sanitary pads. Although I learnt that you have to be careful with sanitary towels as they can catch on stitches (owch!) and aren't as absorbent as maternity pads. Since I have the pants for free I guess I'll give them a go and also get some maternity pads. So that's another joy to look forward to!

I'll have to check through the rest of my goodie bag at the weekend!

Alita7 · 23/08/2014 00:00

Sorry I've been absent for about a week, how are you all? 29 +1 now!

I had my 28 week appointment last week and I'm measuring 2 weeks ahead but apparently he doesn't feel massive but there's lots of fluid. now I'm in the third trimester I just want the time to fly by!

Re tena lady they're £2.50 (2/3 off!) in sainsbury atm and I think I'm planning on trying them but I'm a bit embarrassed to buy them!

haventgotaclue1 · 23/08/2014 05:12

Morning...aanyone else who can't sleep? Really annoying as I feel knackered. ...been awake since 4.10am. Another day on 5 hours sleep.

Kantha · 23/08/2014 08:06

If you really want to give the Tena pants a whirl Alita, you could order online. Before each birth with the other two I have done a big online Boots shop as I couldn't be bothered lugging everything home on foot. Nappies and maternity pads are quite bulky, plus all the other stuff. So ended up with a huge cardboard box being delivered.

MrsDowneyJunior · 23/08/2014 09:59

I just used normal Bodyforms or Always or whatever. But then it was a c-section so nothing was sore down there and I didn't have to worry about stitches or anything. I also didn't bother with any paper pants or anything, just my normal Primark bigger sized ones. Doing the same again this time. Smile

Annarose2014 · 23/08/2014 10:14

I have a ton of those Always Nights (had mennoraghia before getting pregnant) - will those do? They're very skinny. Confused

Alita7 · 23/08/2014 10:18

Well I was going to online but sainsburys only deliver as if it was a grocery shop so I'd have to pay a lot and it wouldn't be delivered in a package so the delivery man could see :p

bunnykitten · 23/08/2014 11:38

I just opened one of tena lady pants up - they look like adult nappies! They seem quite soft so I don't think they'd rustle.

I'm not sure if sanitary pads would work, I guess it depends on the amount of bleeding? I read some people were doubling up Shock and also that some midwifes look at the used pads to see how much blood there is? Shock Shock Kotex nights sanitary pads seem quite popular, but I think the thick ones. TBH it's probably best if someone who has done this before comments on the best things to use, as I've only read this stuff!

Other stuff in my bag of horrors goodie bag: postpartum bath herbs, biofreeze pain reliving spray, vitamin D, magnesium oil, raspberry leaf tablets, coral calcium tablets and witch hazel bath spray. Think I'll be spending some time on google!

Kantha · 23/08/2014 12:17

I have a vague recollection (but I could be wrong) that initially they recommend maternity pads. I think because they are much more cotton wooly rather than full of the gel that lots of sanitary towels have now.

Bunny - yes the idea of a MW looking at a pad does seems a bit horrifying. The only think I would say is that I found by the time I had been through labour my normal levels of modesty/need for privacy were much reduced and I felt much more relaxed about the the whole thing. It was quite liberating really Grin. It helped with breast feeding in public too.

Alita - I remember doing a normal Ocado shop once and the poor delivery man having to inform me that they had substituted some Tampax for something else. He was so embarrassed.

Giant cheap pants and pads for me. After Ds1 was born by c sec the MW told DH to go to Tescos and buy some disposable pants for me, which he dutifully did in the biggest size possible (16). No way were they fitting me 1 day post delivery. Urghh.

pinkgirlythoughts · 23/08/2014 13:43

Kantha, I was just going to say the same thing about showing your midwife a used pad. In the days immediately post baby, I was fairly happy to show anybody anything! Wouldn't have believed it before the birth Grin

I know they do recommend the proper maternity pads for the first days after birth, but I can't remember why. More absorbent, maybe? I used Wilkos cheapy own brand ones, and they did the job really well. After a few days, when the bleeding was starting to ease off a bit, I switched to Always night time ones instead.

bunnykitten · 23/08/2014 16:30

I think it may be the case of picking my dignity up on the way out of the hospital. So does the midwife expect me to save my used maternity pads or is she just interested in the erm...freshest?!

Kantha · 23/08/2014 16:34

I think she would only be interested if you passed a huge clot or something equally out of the ordinary. That would be the pad to save! Grin TMI warning: After I was discharged with DS2 I passed a walnut sized clot in the middle of the night. It alarmed me enough to get on the phone to the post natal ward. It wasn't big enough to cause concern Shock but I was told not to over do it.
