OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
weeonion · 19/08/2014 11:59

greenstone - i think the advice is all different. it but most of the stuff i have read says 34 - 36 weeks. they dont bring on labour but supposedly help tone uterus!

also ordered TENS machine - getting one which records contractions length and timings!

Greenstone · 19/08/2014 12:16

Oh, I've been thinking of getting a TENS this time around weeonion - can you tell me or link to which one you've ordered?

weeonion · 19/08/2014 12:51

Greenstone - this is the one i went for -
www.bootsmaternityrentalproducts.co.uk/product.php?pid=Hire-MamaTENS-my-time--12

I will also get my advantage points Grin

I had one last time. I did use it ( dp and i fondly recall my yells of "Boost me! For Christ sake Boost me!!!)

It was only afterwards we realised that we never had it on full power settings. doh!

Greenstone - also feel yr pain re yelling and feeling angry. its hard not to - especially when their safety is involved. I try to not lose my temper / raise my voice with DD but as she has got older - she really knows how to press buttons. I think they have an incredible capacity for love and forgiveness and as you say - you were pals within minutes.

Recently i was worried that all DD will remember of her last days as only child was a grumpy, bad tempered crying sad ole wreck of a mum. DP gently questionned her and she said " dad - mum is just as brill as she always was!"
cue more weeping from me

blamber · 19/08/2014 13:32

Thanks weeonion, there seems to be some useful stuff on your list that I'll have to look into. The baby massage, do you just do your own thing or did you have classes?

weeonion · 19/08/2014 13:55

Ta blamber!

We had free classes for 6 weeks offered through health visitor. We started when dd was around 10 / 11 weeks i think.

There are lots of other ones offered through things like lazy daisy i think - to be paid for.

DD loved her massages and still occasionally asks for them. She is keen to learn how to do them for her sibling.
Last night we were talking about birth and wants to do skintoskin with baby as soon as she can too.

All this makes me weep :-)

blamber · 19/08/2014 14:50

Ah weeonion that's so sweet. Your daughter sounds like she's very kind and caring.

weeonion · 19/08/2014 15:11

Blamber - of course i am biased but she is a fab kid. We have been incredibly lucky. She is kind and caring indeed. She is also fiesty and madcap with a wicked sense of irony. I never realised before i had her that i could feel such intense love. One of the amazing things about being a parent, you realise more about ourself - your strengths and weaknesses can be thrown into sharp focus but your edges can be rounded and softened too.

I cant wait to see what kind of character this new baby turns out to be :-)

WorkFreeWannabe · 19/08/2014 16:49

Thanks everyone. Back pain has gone, just pain in my lower belly more akin to stretching than anything else. A quick slather of cocoa butter makes it feel do much better. I need to buy shares in the Body Shop!

So glad to have finished work until next Wednesday. No commuting on the tube, no dozy clients, just DH to put up with. Roll on wedding anniversary and a lazy hopefully dirty spa weekend in Hampshire. BLISS!

Annarose2014 · 19/08/2014 17:08

Hello all, back on the wards and its truly hellish on the old pelvis now. From about 2pm yesterday I wasn't walking, I was rolling. Up and down that endless, endless corridor. And of course the storeroom was at the other end of the corridor to my assigned team so any time I needed a specific dressing or well....anything really, I had to walk the whole length of it and the whole length back.

My old length of Tubigrip is back in force and yesterday it truly felt like it was holding my abdomen to my pelvis! Between that and my teds stockings I had to laugh when getting dressed yesterday morning - Xmas turkeys are trussed up less! Grin

On the plus side, I have discovered that all your digestive problems disappear the moment you go back to a 10km a day job! Blush

Oh but the joy of being closer to mat leave! This is my third last week! I can taste it now!

bunnykitten · 19/08/2014 22:47

I had a bit of a nightmare week last week, in and out of the doctors three times with a suspected uti that didn't show up on any tests but I had really bad symptoms. It took the entire week before I got antibiotics. Think it's clearing up now fortunately.

Weeonion your list of labour and post labour stuff is really handy, as I've just been given a bag of stuff from a work colleague who's wife recently gave birth and I have no idea what any of it is for! It's still at work as I couldn't bring it all home in one go (also got a Moses basket and stand - yay!)

One of the items was tena lady disposable padded pants, does anyone know if I would use these instead of maternity pads or in addition to them?! I have no clue! Confused

Strawberryfield12 · 20/08/2014 10:59

I was also thinking how great was the info about different oils&creams provided by weeonion.

Last night we had 3d scan and saw our girl in quite a detail, she didn't look like a clone of any of the families, but looked like herself! It has been first scan or HCP appointment where she was fast asleep and peaceful. And the best of all got confirmation that the low lying placenta what they saw on 20 week scan has moved up and now qualifies for "high"! So I can now focus on hypnobirthing classes and birthing centre and don't have to fret about possibility of c-section. Such a relief!

blamber · 20/08/2014 12:39

Anna, poor you having to do all that walking! I'm just sitting at my desk all day but am also counting down the days till by holiday immediately followed by mat leave!

Bunny I'm not sure about the tens lady things. I sincerely how I won't be having any of those leeks after giving birth. Time for some pelvic floor exercises!

Strawb that's great news! Will you still get an nhs scan to check placenta or can they use the info from the 3d one?

blamber · 20/08/2014 12:40

Work free, glad you're feeling better. Have a great anniversary!

PosyFossilsShoes · 20/08/2014 18:32

28 week appointment today and my miniature bump is progressing fine apparently. Stopped at the shop on the way back and bought some mega cheap big knickers and maternity pads. I did look at the "maternity briefs" but they only come in a size 10 which seems a bit silly given that they're aimed at 9 months pregnant women, so really cheap big knickers seems like the way forward.

Anybody else getting back ache? I'm wondering about trying pregnancy massage or chiropractor.

ladydolly · 20/08/2014 18:43

Urgh, sciatica back, spasms in the corridor at work ?? just had a massage and reflexology from a pregnancy specialist which really did the trick last time it flared up.

Do comes home and tells me he's invited his mate to stay with us for the weekend 4 weeks before my due date. I love this guy but he's a total pisshead, quite 'wild' (I'm cringing even typing that) last time he stayed DP didn't go to bed until 4 in the afternoon. Normally I have no problem with that but I don't want anyone in my nest, I don't want to play host and I don't want a drunk man sleeping in what is now my babies nursery. Dp says he can't believe I'm angry about it but he's going to go to London and stay in a hotel instead now. I can't tell if my hormones are making me unreasonable or he's being insensitive...

Vicky5910 · 20/08/2014 19:24

I think I'd be annoyed in that situation too ladydolly. I don't want people over now, let alone in 10 weeks time!
I am feeling really rough. Dizzy, shaking, tired, headaches... I've spoken to doctor and midwife now, neither are bothered, blood and wee coming up 'fine' so I'm just pregnant and whiny. Midwife is about 12 and doesn't seem to listen to me at all. I feel very isolated! DH is not being too great either, he just says what can he do :(

pinkgirlythoughts · 20/08/2014 20:23

Oh, Ladydolly, that would annoy me too!

Back pain is driving me bonkers at the minute. At yoga tonight, far from helping ease it, I just couldn't get comfortable at all! My sister has had a couple of pregnancy massages, and said they're amazing, so I might go for one of those in a few weeks, see if they're worth the hype Grin

Vicky, I feel similar to you :(. I realised the other day that, at almost 28 weeks, I still haven't actually stopped feeling that early pregnancy crappiness. Not looking forward to the late pregnancy niggles starting, when the early ones haven't finished yet!

pinkgirlythoughts · 20/08/2014 20:32

God, I sound like a right moaning minnie!

Vicky5910 · 20/08/2014 20:47

I think moaning is par for the course now pink! I hate feeling moany :(

MrsWombat · 21/08/2014 07:50

Hello all! Had a 3d scan last week. Have attached a photo...

Had my whooping cough injection on Tuesday which went ok, but now the area around the jab really hurts! The nurse at the GP's said that the flu jab will be available end of September, so I'll be signing up for that too. Confused

Had my 28 week appointment yesterday with the midwife who did my booking, as my actual midwife (who I've only seen once) is off sick. Had my bloods done and baby is measuring 29 weeks! She said it was probably because I'm rather tall, but I only ever measured spot on or smaller with DS, so I'm wondering if this one is larger....

Birth ball has been blown up. Just need to remember to bounce on it! trying to remember to listen to my hypnotherapy cd as well.

Hope everyone is dealing with the third trimester as well as you can be. :-D

weeonion · 21/08/2014 10:18

bunny - last time i bought some disposable pants ( as per NHs advice). they were grim and made a very chic rustling sound on postnatal ward. I am doing the same as posy and going with cheap big granny knickers and maternity pads for post natal and lochia. I am not sure when you would use the tena pants???

mrs wombat - lovely pic and so nice to actually "see" bubba. we had one last time and it was surprising how much dd actually looked like her scan pic when she arrived!
i wa s measuring very big for weeks but it seems to have came into line so maybe dont worry?
ladydolly - i totally get yr point and wouldnt be keen on visitors in my home and in nursery so close to your guess date!
strawberry - yeah that placenta is up out of way!!
vicky - hope you are feeling better. xx

blamber · 21/08/2014 10:20

A pregnancy massage does sound wonderful but ive never had a proper massage at all. I'm a bit unsure about some stranger massaging me.

I do get painful hips during the night. I think last night I must have turned sidea every half hour. The night before I was awake with the pain. I want a proper nights sleep! But I won't get one for a long time I suppose.

So is it worth it getting a ball for during pregnancy (and not just labour)?

Strawberryfield12 · 21/08/2014 12:02

blamber I am still thinking to go to that nhs scan, the sonographer at 3D scan was from the local nhs hospital and she said that I can cancel the scan, but actually what I have been scheduled is a golden standard (it is posterior placenta as well), so I'd rather just go, they will also be able to confirm if he baby is in right position as it will be in 32 weeks.

I am going for pg massage about once in 1-2 weeks and believe that that and pg yoga once a week has kept major back and neck pain and sciatica at bay. I know I have issues with back, so started doing massage for profilaxes before it turns bad and up to now (touch wood) it's been fine. And it is a nice, relaxing time for yourself before you get down to nappies and sleepless nights :)

Strawberryfield12 · 21/08/2014 12:18

mrs wombat nice picture! When in the scan did you have that weird feeling that baby looked like made of clay? I just could not help myself with that thought! Hmm

amy83firsttimer · 21/08/2014 14:10

Just got in from John Lewis where we bought our car seat. Went for cabriofix for £91. We bought a familyfix base locally for £60 so think we've come off relatively lightly considering pram / pushchair, cot, stairgate and changing table were all free. While we were there DH spotted a leather maxi cosi one exclusive to JL priced at £699! Who exactly buys those?!?! I oohed and aaahed over some lovely sleepsuits and dungarees but we already have enough clothes to sink a battleship.
