Names are hard! He might be Max(imus), Dexter, Jared or hopefully Oscar as dp is reconsidering. Not my first choices but we have to agree! His middle name is John.

RowanMumsnet · 30/07/2014 10:43

Blimey these threads move fast!

Just wanted to drop a quick reminder about Bumpfest - our one-day all-you-need one-stop-shop for finding out about pregnancy, birth and your baby's first six months. Book before August 3 to get reduced tickets, and even bigger savings if you book in groups of three or more.

The goody bag is worth more than the ticket price (if you use a combo of Early Bird booking and group booking), and you get lunch and drinks and snacks too.

We're very sorry to hear about your friend Amy83 Flowers

greenstone I wonder if it is making a comeback? I don't know any one else with it which was what appealed. DP's family (and therefore Surname) are Irish so they go well together.

Alita Dexter and Max(amillian) were top of my list for boys, DP vetoed just like he did all the other boys names I suggested we gave up in the end since we were so convinced it was a girl there was no point arguing.

Short work week for me too, off to a music festival this weekend, albeit a fairly civilized, grown-up one, I can't imagine doing it sober (or being able to stay up past 10pm). I've even got myself a camping chair, I can't gracefully lay around on the grass anymore!

Greenstone · 30/07/2014 12:06

lady, I haven't noticed a comeback of Orla (and its variations in spelling) in Ireland yet (we seem to be several years' behind the UK in terms of name trends, so the old-fashioned names revival is still going strong here!). I think it would still be quite unusual in the UK. It's just a lovely name, great choice :)

Hope the music festival is fun! I was at a wedding this weekend and while it was nice I just don't have the stamina for day-into-night partying when pregnant or ever really.

What's for lunch today everyone? I am planning to use up some rather dull soup I made and froze some time ago

moggle · 30/07/2014 12:17

Amy so sorry to hear about your friend. It's just so so very sad. xxx

It is nice to hear about names :-) We have had Eliza picked for a girl since fairly early on, but need to choose a middle name, might be Kate. For boys we have a shortlist, top of the list at the moment are Leo and Alexander. Middle names may be Clifford or David, both family names. Leo is very short - need to get used to that! As for Alexander, I just feel like we will shorten it from the start so need to get used to Alex or pick a different nickname (there are tons to choose from - I like Sandy too). Our last name ends with an X sound but don't think it's too much of a mouthful. Most of the babies and kids we know in real life are boys so lots of names have already been used - not that I'd mind using them too, but some of these little 'uns have very big personalities and I can't quite imagine having our own Arthur or Fred when the two we know are such characters! My all time favourite boys name is Matthew but we know a lot of them and DH's two best friends are Matthews so it's probably an outsider at the mo.

ladydolly · 30/07/2014 12:54

Thanks greenstone! First road test on here because no one else knows. My family are going mad trying to guess!

Did you have to just scale back the dancing or did you leave early? I'm normally pretty hardcore and stay up all night and love the all day drinking, I honestly can't imagine how different it'll be! Hoping I don't indulge in the food too much to replace the booze!

I'm having leftovers, last night made Simon Rimmers patatas bravas that he did on Sunday brunch at the weekend. Tasty but not at all healthy so had a shed load of broccoli with a small left over portion. Now going to treat myself to some cherries (cherries and strawberries have been my major cravings)

Be careful in the sun today peeps, despite having a good tan from my hols I just took my lunch outside and now have one slightly pink arm!

ladydolly · 30/07/2014 13:45

Can anyone tell me about the lucozade test? I have my appt next Tues but I've not been told anything about it, do I bring the lucozade? Do I drink it before I get there? how long will I need to be there for?

I've called my midwife but I'm curious now.

Miskate · 30/07/2014 15:34

Loving all these names!
We've fully decided on Joshua Stanley for a boy, but wavering on a girl option. Husband likes Isobel but I think it is a bit too commonly used nowadays? I'd prefer Cora or Ophelia (I'm v pretentious).
LOVE Emmeline.

nickiswiss · 30/07/2014 16:31

Ladydolly
For the glucose test, you have to take the lucozade with you (think 500ml bottle) . You cant eat from midnight the night before, they take some blood, then you drink it in front of them, sit for 2 hours in the waiting room and have another blood test.
It's boring, and i HATE lucozade! Good luck-i have mine on weds...
I've been reading everything on here but not writing for AGES... My little bean won't stop moving today and my ds is really sleepy and chilled! Happy days!

ToniWol · 30/07/2014 16:48

LadyDolly - might be worth calling the clinic you're having it done. Had mine this morning and they provided the glucose drink. Was a bit of a bore having to sit for two hours though, so if you've got to do that take something (book, knitting, etc) to do.

bunnykitten · 30/07/2014 17:00

Can anyone explain what this lucozade/glucose test is? Is it standard as I haven't been told anything about it?

Vicky5910 · 30/07/2014 17:11

Bunny it's to check for gestational diabetes and you only have it if you have a risk factor, such as a high BMI or previous GD etc. I'm having one as I put on 4 stone last pregnancy and have been! very tired!

I have just convinced my nearly 4yo to have a 3 hour nap with me! Feel so much better now, naps are brilliant! That is my positive today for you Amy, with prayers for your friend xx

ladydolly · 30/07/2014 17:41

2 hours??!!! Oh god how boring. Hope they have WiFi! I don't have high bmi or history of God so wonder why I'm having it done... Will wait for midwife to call me back then.

miskate Ophelia made our shortlist (I also proposed Cora but do said no), am also v pretentious ;)

bunnykitten its also at 28 weeks so might be a bit soon for others to have it booked.

ToniWol · 30/07/2014 18:27

The risk factors are

BMI over 30
GD in a previous pregnancy
Close family member with diabetes
Previous baby over 10lb
family origin (S Asian, Black Caribbean and Middle Eastern are higher risk groups)

Just need to wait for my results now. Am hoping I don't hear anything until my next MW appointment as that means everything's good.

bunnykitten · 30/07/2014 19:12

Thanks everyone, sounds like I'm not at risk which is why I haven't heard about it, rather than my midwife not telling me. I have my 28week appointment in ten days and am still waiting for my blood tests from the 12 week scan... Hmm

Greenstone · 30/07/2014 20:04

In my area if you're aged over 30 you also get the GDD test. I had it last week and it was fine, not as bad as I thought. It was a pretty hot day though so I did feel a bit woozy! I kept wanting to go off for a cup of something to break up the wait but obviously you can't do that...so yes a book is definitely needed.

lady I didn't do any dancing at the wedding at all! Boring eh? In my defence the dancing started pretty late and I was just too uncomfortable by then and everyone else was pissed. Left around midnight.

pinkgirlythoughts · 30/07/2014 20:45

Ooh, some lovely names on the thread. Both Orla and Alice are on our girls list, but it's a list of 19 names at the moment, so may well end up being neither of those!

Alita7 · 30/07/2014 23:27

I love Ophelia!

MrsWombat · 31/07/2014 07:09

Very sorry to hear about your friend Amy Flowers. I can't imagine what you must be feeling so take care of yourself as well.

MrsWombat · 31/07/2014 07:21

Had an extra midwife appointment yesterday as my MW likes to see VBACers at 25 weeks to make sure everything is ok before the 26 week appointment with the VBAC team. However she was on holiday, so I ended up seeing a different midwife who wasn't impressed with my extra appointment! She was quite miserable compared to the other two midwives I've seen. I also forgot to get my MATB1 form. Grrrrr.

She just did the normal checks and said that generally the decision with the VBAC team is if mum go in to labour natural they'll try for a natural birth otherwise they'll have a C section booked for 41 weeks. I'm very happy with that as I really don't want any sort of induction again, but would like to hold on a few extra days and be nearer 42 weeks, but we'll see what happens. I'll have an consultant appointment at 36 weeks as well.

barmybunting · 31/07/2014 07:27

Love the name chat, Orla is beautiful!

Our only confirmed name on the list for a boy so far is William. We need to do some more thinking there. A girl is likely to be Lillian, Iona or Anna so far.

Whenwillwe3meetagain · 31/07/2014 08:45

The GD lucozade test is normal for everyone in Wandsworth at 28 weeks - I have never tried it before as I don't like fizzy drinks.
At my 24 week checkup my sugar was a little high so had a blood test yesterday.

Annarose2014 · 31/07/2014 09:56

I have the glucose test - not sure why, tbh. My advanced age? Who knows. I know it'd be within normal parameters. I don't mind at all doing it though.

We haven't any names! Blush We seem to hate EVERYTHING!!! Ooops. We'll prob end up with something generic like "John" just cos we can't think of anything else! We're useless!!

My friend is visiting in Sept & sent me a message re: going to the pub as I'll be able to drink by then. But I don't want to! I was a big drinker before, and feel incredibly proud of myself thus far. And now want to go for the whole nine months - more for me than baby. Does that make sense?

But am now worried she'll think me wierd.

moggle · 31/07/2014 10:37

Anna it's your decision - don't let anyone make you feel bad whatever you decide. TBH if I hadn't drunk for 8 months I wouldn't suddenly have a drink a month before my due date, might make you feel ill as you just won't be used to it. If you are really worrying, go along with it and then when it comes to it say you are feeling a bit tired/ ill / queasy and so you'll just have a j20 or whatever. It's not like you'd be going on a bender with her either way, she won't miss out if you have a lemonade instead if one glass of wine!

Annarose2014 · 31/07/2014 10:44

Yeah, I know she's only expecting a glass or two. But her message was so assuming that its what I would be doing....I suspect it'd actually make her uncomfortable to have me sat there nursing a cranberry juice whilst she had several wines.

But I'm just so proud of myself - I never even managed to give up booze for Lent before! and DH thinks I'm awesome, and barely drinks at all himself anymore to keep me company. And he's lost weight!

Hate having to see her raised eyebrow of judgement though. Oh well. :-/
