Jump aboard ladies.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
CarmineRose1978 · 24/07/2014 21:26

I know, it's ridiculous. I had an ankle length skirt and a cardigan on too so it's not like I was showing a lot of skin!

Petal26 · 24/07/2014 22:23

carmine and brand that is rubbish, so hard to dress in this weather let alone conservatively! :-(

amy I thought she was a bit of a loon on that 'nine months later', she had created a timetable of weeks so that she wasn't alone with her baby without a relative hadn't she? I wouldn't worry about getting feelings like that! :-)

Potty training in this house, planning on cracking it in a couple of days, so far so good, successful first day!

Annarose2014 · 24/07/2014 23:54

I've found all maternity dresses are short. I've stocked up on Capri leggings from Primark in a bigger size. They hide my calves but still look summery enough under skirts. They're brilliant!

I'm going to combination feed. Best of both worlds! It'll fit in with my hectic lifestyle as DH can help me out doing one feed a day. I honestly think also that having all the responsibility would not be good for my emotional health - I have a history of depression (though not for years) and am wary about becoming a bit post-natal. So am mindful of potential triggers.

But both he & I want to try BFing, cos of all the protection. Honestly, just having decided to combination feed has taken some of the fear out of it - even if its excruciating, at least I know my poor nips will have a break once a day!

barmybunting · 25/07/2014 07:54

I am glad it is not just me who thinks cereal, toast and ice lollies are acceptable food to be feeding guests, thank you! I am looking forward to seeing them, they are doing a 10 hour drive to see us which is really nice of them, but at the same time two of them are notoriously fussy eaters and I can't be bothered with that! DH is off the opinion we just show them where the fridge is and tell them to get on with it which is actually not a bad plan. I feel dreadfully inhospitable saying that but I am not in the mood to be fussing over fussy people!

I can't believe that bosses are commenting on your clothing, that is totally uncalled for! Maternity wear is an absolute nightmare, particularly in this heat and if you are turning up clothed and ready to work, they should bugger off I think!

Oh Twiglet, that did make me laugh! Any response from your boss?

picklebum2011 · 25/07/2014 08:07

Twig let and dolly I have just scared my dd by laughing out loud so hard. Did your boss reply?
Sorry for everyone who has had comments on what they wear.
Another hot hot one. Is anyone else suddenly feeling like they have expanded? I can't sit on a chair cross legged anymore as bump in the way lol.

TwigletFiend · 25/07/2014 08:51

About to go into work.

If I'm not back by lunchtime, assume I have fled the country.

BrandSnob · 25/07/2014 09:06

Good luck Twiglet.

I'm on my way in. Dressed all in black to reflect my mood, stupid considering the heat, but I couldn't find anything else 'suitable'. Knee length skirt with a very tight top where the twins are definitely on display.

Open toe shoes and sandals are banned as per the summer dress code yes, we have one for both seasons, but I dare someone to tell me that after they've had a look at my balloon feet!

pinkgirlythoughts · 25/07/2014 09:20

I kept all my maternity clothes from last time, thinking I'd save loads of money by not really needing to buy anything this time round. Well, I cocked that one up from the off by being due in November- last time I was due in May, so most of my clothes are too wintery. Plus, I'm also rapidly discovering that I'm just much bigger all over now than I was when I had DS, so hardly any of my old stuff fits me! Confused

amylou85 · 25/07/2014 09:44

Brandsnob they ban open toe shoes and sandals??? WTF? I have NEVER heard anyone say 'Look at that tarty cow showing her toes, how revealing'?!?!? Your boss sounds v odd!

Good luck Twiglet! I shall be awaiting your response!

I panicked this morning in bed as I couldn't feel madam, she was obviously letting me have a lay in til 8. She is now somersaulting in my belly. Ahhh the relief. Love that little cherub.

Miskate · 25/07/2014 09:58

Amylou - I had the exact same thing this morning. So I lay really still and then suddenly flipped onto my left side. The baby totally freaked out and kicked like a loon. Hilarious.

FTMK · 25/07/2014 10:16

Brand snob, I'm fairly sure temperature of working conditions should be covered in your risk assessment and as pregnant women are known to suffer with heat and swollen feet, then they should make an exception for your sandals. You could challenge them for not making a reasonable adjustment if they do complain. Temperature is one of the things the HsE lists as being part of the working conditions that they should risk assess. A pregnant woman can be treated more favourably (I.e. Allowed to wear different clothes etc) if this is directly linked to her pregnancy and no one else can complain about not being treated the same way.

Twig let, waiting with baited breath for your update!

Amylou and miskate, baby's movements are hit and miss and I'm never sure if I should worry or not...

PosyFossilsShoes · 25/07/2014 10:17

I just had a vision of a baby coming out of a vagina trimmed with flashing rainbow lights, with Diana Ross blaring in the background

That's in my birth plan. Grin

PosyFossilsShoes · 25/07/2014 10:19

Maternity is a protected characteristic under the Equalities Act. I would think refusing to adjust the dress code slightly in the heat for a pregnant woman would contravene the Eqs Act. Possibly one to wave at HR for those who need to.

Miskate · 25/07/2014 10:56

You shouldn't worry - I may be further along than you - I'm 25+3 and have only been feeling constant kicking for the last week or so, it was sporadic before that. I also have a really pokey out belly (I'm very short) so i don't think there is any room for the bebe to hide.

RowanMumsnet · 25/07/2014 11:29

Hello November antenatalers

Hope you don't mind us barging in like this, but in case you hadn't seen, we wanted to flag up Mumsnet's inaugural Bumpfest on September 27.

It's our one-day event all about birth and your baby's first 6 months. It's going to be packed with talks, workshops and activities to prepare you for becoming a parent - and, we like to think, also useful for those who've done it before but fancy a refresher. 'No fluff, no guff - just the facts you need from those in the know', as our tagline has it .

We'd love to get some of you along (it is in London so apologies to those for whom that's too much of a trek) and can offer a group discount of one-third off the ticket price for bookings of three or more tickets (chance for a meet-up? Grin).

If you take advantage of Early Bird offer too and book before August 3, that means tickets for £43.55 per person - a price that includes lunch, drinks and snacks (all guaranteed pregnancy-appropriate) PLUS a goody bag filled with swag worth more than the reduced ticket price.

If you fancy it, one person needs to book the tickets (in groups of three or more: you'll need the names & email addresses of those in your group) and enter the discount code BumpGroup in the promo code link.

The BumpGroup promo will continue to apply (one-third off!) but remember that the Early Bird offer runs out on August 2.

Here endeth the promotional message. Thanks for listening and hope you see you there - and very best of luck to everyone.

Thanks
MNHQ

Wow, Greenstone, that is probably the clearest information to date on the pros and cons of bf from the point of view of someone who has actually done it that I've had. Thank you so much!

I am trying to swat up on bf as much as possible and ignoring the actual giving birth part so does anyone have any books etc. to recommend that are really good? I will defo look out for Bump to Breastfeeding DVD, weeonion, though I will then of course have to pester you to tell me which one you are Grin

There's a bit of an awkward air of mutual pretending it didn't happen in the office today. He just raised his eyebrows at me this morning, said hello and carried on working. I know he knows. And he knows I know he knows. But nobody is bringing it up. Simultaneously a massive relief and slightly excruciating...

FTMK · 25/07/2014 12:11

Terribly, terribly British approach Twiglet. Nothing to see here. Move along everyone! (Grin)

Interested to read all the bf advice as well. Am aiming to but slightly worried about being overwhelmed.

ladydolly · 25/07/2014 12:59

My sister had a baby 8 weeks ago and god bless her I sat and watched how she did it and gave me tips. If you do have a friend close enough to grill about such things who is still feeding get in there. (Am I weird? I feel a bit like a bf pervert). She highly recommended finding a bf support group and making contact before the baby is born so they can support you from Day 1.

A guy (who I actually get on very well with) just said to me 'you have to lose all those lbs you put on afterwards you know' when I ate ONE starburst in our meeting. Cue my reply 'I was measured this week and my bump is averaged sized according to her measurements so the next person who suggests I might be carrying twins or that I'm huuuuuge is getting a punch in the face and a earful of that fact' - does anyone think I might have over reacted? ;)

Miskate · 25/07/2014 13:20

One starburst? you monster!! better go and take the gestational diabetes test right now!

Annarose2014 · 25/07/2014 13:28

I'm 25&5 and tbh I've only had proper movements this week. As in every day. Last week I had the odd movement but not every day by any means.

Still feels more like flipflops than kicks.

Last night DH got to feel a few movements though! It was very special. Smile

ladydolly · 25/07/2014 13:54

miskate I know!!! ONE!!! He's on the Dukkan diet so I think he was just massively jealous...

Re movement, even though I have an anterior placenta so feel nothing in front I've felt her kicking away every day since about 20/21 weeks. I love it BUT, I've got visions of this time next year, writing a similar post asking for sympathy because my 9 month old won't stay still!! Even at our 10 week scan the barely formed arm and leg stubs were flying round wildly. I think I've got a fidget footballer on my hands, just like her father.

blamber · 25/07/2014 15:31

Dukkan diet? Never heard of it! He'll be jealous indeed and very grumpy from not eating properly. It just surprises me how rude people can be and how they think they can comment on your size. I just think I don't care as long as the baby is healthy!

I'm interested in getting some reading on bf too. I just assumed you'd just do it. Very naive! Good idea asking someone you know who is going through it, lady. I can't find any support groups nearby where I live though. Hopefully the midwives may be able to help too.

Kantha · 25/07/2014 16:39

Greenstone - I thought your post was excellent too, and echoed many of my experiences.

BF resources.
Kellymom has all sorts of stuff on it. I have emailed one or two friends this page in the past when they have been wondering what is normal in the first few weeks:
kellymom

THE book on the subject is the fabulously titled: "The womanly art of of breast feeding". I haven't read it Grin. Since last having a baby I have moved house and by pure coincidence I now know a few breast feeding peer supporters who have extolled the merits of this book.

MrsDowneyJunior · 25/07/2014 18:31

Anyone doing the rainbow collective can you PM me your address to send them to? Now I've bought and dyed everything the thread has gone very quiet so please check it! Smile I think a couple of us are ready to post now. Smile

Alita7 · 25/07/2014 18:40

And pm me addresses too as my muslins are ready :) unless you're going to the meet on Sunday in which case let me know and I'll bring it :)
