President I'm so sorry that you got bad news about your mum. No matter how often you deal with illness day to day it's completely different when it's someone you love. Sending lots of love to the whole President family.

PresidentSpreadable · 03/08/2014 11:42

Thanks lovely. She's got to 79 with barely a day of sickness, so pretty good going! I'm being selfish and hoping that she'll still be able to a) knit, and b) cook us Christmas dinner. Grin

MrsFtn · 03/08/2014 13:08

Just been catching up with all the news. DD has been ill, work has been manic and we're right in the middle of wedding season - got another one tomorrow so haven't had much time to catch up lately. Spent a long time in Kiddicare today checking out the closing down sale. Spent nearly £200!

Finally feeling lots of movement now despite anterior placenta. DD and DH have also felt it too which is lovely- the cat is not so impressed at being kicked when she's sat on my lap though!

Basgetti I'm so sorry to hear pregnancy still isn't agreeing with you. Nearly halfway there now though so hope you are seeing a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel

penguin hope you had a good day off. I think you did the right thing about your test if you really feel you weren't ready. It took me 3 goes and I got so stressed out with it. I can't imagine doing it while pregnant! Getting lots of practise and building confidence will benefit you more than stressing out!

regular congrats on team yellow and a good scan

cakes sorry to hear about random sickness

covent hope you get plenty of rest this weekend after a hard week. Hopefully now it's a bit cooler you can sleep better

president great news on GTT result. Will they test again later in pregnancy or is that it now?

Sorry I haven't mentioned everyone - had a lot to catch up on! Hope you all have a great weekend

FranksBobot · 03/08/2014 14:19

Just been into town and noticed that mothercare have a lot of sterilisers and breast pumps on half price offers. Quite a few different brands to choose from.

Sorry to hear about your mum President. Will keep everything crossed for you all.

Thanks Franks.

I must admit that all the feeding paraphernalia scares me! I'm hoping it'll make more sense after the breastfeeding classes at the hospital and nct. I'm really hoping it works out for us as it seems a lot more convenient than formula, but not looking forward to pumping. I won't mind if we end up mixed feeding as it might get me out of some of the middle of the night feeds!

FranksBobot · 03/08/2014 17:25

The best advice I was given whilst pregnant with dd re: feeding was to buy a couple of the ready made/sterilised bottles so that if you struggle to breastfeed there is back up. Breastfeeding is a lot easier when mum is relaxed so at 3am on first night home with baby is screaming but won't latch it's less stressful knowing you have milk if it's really really needed.
I didn't find expressing that bad last time although the rules about keeping milk have probably all changed now so I'll probably have to learn the new ones! It was nice to be able to share feeds.
I'm going to make sure I am prepared for both scenarios, Just because dd loved the boobies doesn't mean this one will.

Sorry for another duplicate post earlier Blush

I hope your mum caught it early president and her prognosis is good Thanks

DD is much better now. She had a bout of asthma and a viral infection but she's finished antibiotics now and seems to be on the right asthma medication. She's jad bouts of wheezing since she was a baby and has been admitted to hospital a few times. They said most grow out of it quickly though. It seems to be linked to hay fever as she doesn't get any problems from just running around or exercise. She's going to be 4 next month.

I breastfed DD for 10 months and she resolutely refused to take a bottle whether it be breast milk or formula. She simply would not put it in her mouth! We tried various bottles and teats but to no avail. I would have loved for DH to take on some of the night feeds! I would say don't go mad on buying loads straight away until you know what you're dealing with. A microwave steriliser is handy because it's so quick and you only need to add water to it's easy to take away with you for holidays or staying with family etc. I was disappointed because I found it easy to express and had a freezer full of expressed milk that I had to throw away!

basgetti · 03/08/2014 23:19

President sorry to hear about your Mum, also hoping they have caught it early enough and she can make a good recovery. Must be a worrying time for your family x

Glad your GTT was negative, I have my next one at 26 weeks, I have to have them sporadically due to my history of GD. My earlier one was negative but I'm half expecting it to turn up again at some point!

Sorry you've been getting sick Cakes, hope you're feeling better now.

MrsFtn glad your DD is better, it's horrible when they're poorly.

Hope everyone else is doing well, I'm managing on the new medication at the moment, keeping the ketones at bay and staying out of hospital. That's about the best I can hope for at the moment! They will only prescribe me a few at a time though so having to see GP about every 4 days! I did manage to take DS to a kid's picnic yesterday, I got through it but had to perch on a log and my back and hips are paying for it today! Anyone else getting random aches and pains?

I've not bought anything yet bar one cute baby outfit I saw in a sale. I'm planning to get a travel system soon but want to wait a little while longer. Scan on wednesday so once that's out of the way I'll probably go on a mini spree! Hoping they will be able to tell me what team I'm on, I want to know if my nub theory guess was right!

funchum8am · 04/08/2014 21:31

Hi everyone, I am back after perfectly healthy baby shown on 20 wk scan today. I got a bit superstitious about posting here in the lead up to the scan...I think I need one of those wet fish slaps you are so good at delivering! I am now going to be rational and accept that I am having DC2, all is fine so far, and posting on here will have NO IMPACT on the pregnancy other than benefits from the support you lovely ladies provide!

I haven't read every single post on the new thread yet but am about to start. Sorry for being so odd Blush

Penguin13 · 04/08/2014 22:16

Funchum if you are odd you are in very good company! Nice to see you back and congratulations on good news at your scan. Hope that the good news helps you relax a bit.

So it seems I am back in the ravenously hungry camp which is a little awkward as just this morning I was thinking I need to cut back! I have gained, gulp, about 12 lbs so far at 23 weeks Blush. Considering that most weight gain should be in 3rd trimester it's not looking good.....did that classic thing tonight of unearthing the pregnancy exercise dvd I bought ages ago because clearly one evening of vigorous exercise is going to undo the bad habits of the previous 5 months or so....Hey Ho at least my bmi was reasonable to start with clutching at straws

PresidentSpreadable · 05/08/2014 08:11

I've gained a stone so far Penguin and I was a fat chuffer to start with! Half a stone during the first tri as I was eating loads of carbs and not cycling, half a stone on holiday as I ate ALL the cheese. I don't seem to be gaining at all now though and am keeping an eye on the scales.

Welcome back Funchum glad the scan went well.

FranksBobot · 05/08/2014 08:34

Penguin I read somewhere this week that on average, pregnant women put on 4.5kg in the first 20 weeks. That's about 10lb so a stone isn't far off. That's what I'm telling myself who has gained a full stone at not quite 20weeks anyway!

Welcome back fun pleased all went well with your scan.

Is it just you and me for scans this Basgetti ? I do believe yours is Wednesday? Day before me. I'm excited but super nervous now it's got this close. Giant baby kicks are reassuring in a way.

OP posts:
funchum8am · 05/08/2014 08:46

Good luck for scans basgetti and anyone else coming up soon!

I get really nervous for them but then yesterday I realised that hopefully that's the last one I'll ever have and felt a bit sad not to have the excitement of seeing the heartbeat and the baby wriggling away ever again (we are not planning any more after this DC, who will be no. 2!)

President, I am really sorry to hear about your mum. Keep us posted if you need any support. Both my MIL and stepmum have survived breast cancer and are now in excellent health and I really hope your mum comes through well. If you live near a Breast Cancer Haven my stepmum found them an absolute godsend.

Penguin - you're dead right to postpone your test, you don't need the stress and more practice can only help!

Off now up to visit family for two weeks (my family and then ILs, we couldn't cope with seeing either lot for a full two weeks!) so may not be massively prolific at posting but will be reading :)

Stay cool, happy and healthy everyone.

funchum8am · 05/08/2014 08:47

And good luck for your scan franks!

basgetti · 05/08/2014 08:59

Great news about your scan fun, enjoy your break.

Yes franks my scan is wednesday afternoon, I'm excited but also nervous, I keep worrying that all the medication I'm taking will have caused some horrible damage! I've been reassured by the lovely women on the hyperemesis thread who have provided links and all sorts to show how safe the drugs are but every time I have to pop a pill I feel so guilty. Good luck for your scan too.

Penguin your weight gain sounds absolutely fine, I'm not sure what I weigh at the moment. Don't think I want to know, my bump is like a huge tyre round my waist and makes me look huge, even though I've lost weight elsewhere like my arms and legs. I look like a toffee apple!

CakesALot · 05/08/2014 11:05

Hi folks!

I've had a long weekend away so only just catching up. Thanks for your concerns re. my puking. They seem to be isolated incidents and I'm just putting them down to my body not wanting to deal with digestion at that moment as I'm normally able to eat fine again an hour or so later. It has put me back slightly, in that I'm back to only wanting stodgy, carb-rich foods again so lets not talk about weight gain!

So sorry to hear about your mum, President. My mum had breast cancer a few years ago, over 10 years in fact. It was caught really early and she was ok. Scary stuff though. Best wishes to you and your family.

I'm off to catch up properly on all your news now Smile

CoventGarden75 · 05/08/2014 16:08

president well done on your GTT result. Salted caramel ice cream, yum, it has recently become my favorite flavour (it used to be coffee). Sorry to hear about your mum, fx she'll get good treatment and recover soon.

basgetti good to hear the meds are still working. I have pain in my left bum cheek, like a trapped nerve or something. Good luck with your scan tomorrow.

Congrats on your scan fun Smile which team have you joined? and enjoy your break.

penguin maternal storage tissue, maternal storage tissue... Grin you're fine.

I want to GP last night to pick the MATB1, and didn't mention my sore throat as i was convinced it was due to all the talking i did during the day (my mat cover started yesterday, i'm not used to talking) but it turned out that i have a bad cold, came back home for the afternoon, 38.3c fever, bed and paracetamol. Good thing internet is back (not sure how long for tho) it's been down all weekend.

Penguin13 · 05/08/2014 22:06

Thanks ladies. I can always rely on you to talk me down from fretting about whatever it is I ha decided to worry about this week!

Good luck for your scan tomorrow Basgetti.

Penguin13 · 05/08/2014 22:08

Whoops trigger happy. I wasn't finished! Was about to say 'I can understand why you are nervous about all the meds but they're helping you to nourish your baby and the science is on your side Smile.

FranksBobot · 06/08/2014 03:15

So it would appear the night feeds have already begun in this house. I've been awake since 2am absolutely starving, have finally given in as clearly I was not going back to sleep so have come downstairs and had some toast. Now it is just past 3am and I'm wide awake. Angry

Good luck for for today's scan Basgetti

Hope you feel better soon Covent Flowers

Hi all, had my scan. All healthy, baby wasn't very co-operative but managed to ascertain it's a girl. My nub theory guess was right! Hope everyone is well. x

FranksBobot · 06/08/2014 18:00

Yay pleased all was well basgetti and congrats in being in team pink! I've managed to lose track of how many are in each team now.
