Morning everyone, I am officially still lying in bed on my first day of ML! Had a lovely send off party yesterday with lots of cake and a few lovely presents from the parents, very emotional day!

Yay for a good night sleep penguin, I love the name Hazel.. I don't think it would matter wrt eye or hair colour. It's a beautiful name that I don't think will be too common at the moment, I'd go for it! (If baby is a girl of course)
I'm also second guessing our names, it think it's normal seen as it's a decision we have to be confident on for the rest of our lives!
My Victoriaslinglady wrap sling arrived yesterday in reversible grey/turquoise.. Have attached a pic of H wearing it (with doll) so funny to see a big 6ft4 man with it on.. Don't know how much use he will get out of it but I definitely will, I love it!

shanels hope you're feeling better soon and find a way to deal with your frustrating ML cover!

My POA today is to start on washing baby clothes and bedding and pop to town to buy the last bits for my hospital bag. Then consultant later on to see how big this boy is and plan the birth depending on his size.. Eek!

Oh have attached a pic of a Christmas jumper I found in tesco that is almost identical to mine from last year.. Poor child! Grin

Hope everyone has a good day, any plans for those not working/on ML?

Hi all, Hazel is a lovely name Penguin, I'm also questioning my name choice. It has been Evelyn ever since we found out we were having a girl but after reading a baby name thread the other day I really like Vivienne now and can't get it out of my head. Though DP did point out it would be shortened to Viv which is true. Arghh I might just see what suits her once she's here!

Sorry you are unwell Shanel, hope you feel better soon and can enjoy the last few weeks. Hopefully once you are on ML you can put your feet up.

Good luck seeing the consultant Strawbs, how big is your baby measuring now?

I saw the MW yesterday, baby is so breech she is sitting upright and doesn't see to have much room! Everytime she makes any movements it is so painful, I don't know how it would feel if she does manage to turn somehow! I have a plan now though, seeing consultant next week and if still breech they will order a presentation scan for 2 weeks later. If no change then they will give me an ELCS at 39 weeks at latest. Not what I had in mind but after this pregnancy I'll just be glad to get it over with tbh, and in some ways at least having a set date, and slightly early, means I can make plans and not run the risk of still sitting around waiting to go into labour on Christmas Day!

I'm having a lazy day today, in bed with Judge Judy marathon. On the plus side this is now my 7th vomit free day in a row. Dare I hope??!!!

Phew sorry for the essay, hope everyone is doing well xx

CakesALot · 06/11/2014 10:35

Hi all!

Sorry I've been away for a while. Lovely to catch up on your news though. Sorry to those of you struggling with mat cover, I echo penguin, it will become a distant memory. I though it'd take me an age to let go of the work stress but I've found it surprisingly easy. Definitely say what's on your mind though Shanels, you'll feel better if you get it off your chest.

Sorry your still suffering and that baby is breech basgetti. Everything crossed that she does a somersault soon.

Hazel is a lovely name penguin, it wouldn't occur to me that a hazel should have brown or hazel eyes at all. I went to school with a lovely blonde haired, blue eyed hazel! I'm second guessing our name choices too, it's such a responsibility! DH is very confident in our choices though so I'm putting my trust in him. We've got a shortlist of three which we'll take to the birth and choose once she's here. We'll probably pick something completely different!!

Had my 36 week appointment yesterday. Head is down and I'm 1/5 engaged. Still a long way to go but so pleased it's going in the right direction! Her head is buried very deep but the midwife managed to find it. I never can though!

I've had a stinking cold too, a heavy head cold so I've been attached to a bottle of Vicks!! My PGP has flared up too (might have overdone it a bit on my first few days of ML!) so today's plan is rest. And maybe a waddle to the corner shop for some chocolate!!

Hope everyone is doing well xx

CakesALot · 06/11/2014 10:40

Cross post basgetti! Naughty baby sitting up like that! Must be so frustrating but great that you have a plan and an end in sight. And fab news on 7 sick free days! You must feel like a new woman.

Evelyn is a beautiful name. I think we should all step away from baby name threads and stop confusing ourselves!

(Now switching channels to the judge judy marathon. Love judge judy! The other option is watching a live vasectomy on this morning...Blush)

regularbutpanickingabit · 06/11/2014 11:12

Hello all!
Lovely names you are thinking about. We need 5 mins together to actually get further with our own. The kids are desperate for us to decide but I don't want the world knowing our choices and they won't be able to keep them secret.

Still no car seat or pushchair which is ridicululous but we are nearly there.
This weekend we are going to a big Mothercare and I will get labour bag stuff sorted. Does anyone have a good list? It was so many years ago I have totally forgotten!

My baby is also transverse and so there are now mutterings about trying to get it to turn and then going for c-section if not. I really want to avoid that if I possibly can but everything else has been unexpected so I guess there is no reason to stop now. As long as the baby is healthy then that's fine.

Belly is HUGE but I am hoping that's partly because of the way it is lying?!

Still working but things will slow down from next week, hopefully. I am self-employed so don't have an official date for maternity leave to start but I am most definitely getting to that point. Last job for one client finished yesterday which is a huge relief.

34+2. Eek!

CoventGarden75 · 06/11/2014 12:02

shanels defo mention it to mw, you being worried is an issue.
I'm loosing it at work, and just had a go at my superior for overwriting formulaes in MY spreadsheet. I need to chill out and let go Confused 8 working days to go.
Frankie style is so cute, but my hair is quite thick so short cuts always end up being an unmanageable helmet.
Hazel and Evelyn are are great names.
strawbs how could you? That jumper...I should report you to nspcc Grin
I wonder when the first baby will make its appearance on this thread.
35w

CallingAllEngels · 06/11/2014 18:28

Feeling HUGE here! Still 3 weeks left of work but handover is getting there.

We have settled on Seth for a boy and Lara for a girl. Atm that is! Other possibles are Connor, Dan or Gabriel for a boy or Sofie for a girl. Iris is a definite middle name for a girl (but not first because I hate the way it's pronounced in Dutch).

Amazed that we've been able to agree, but dh only came up with Lara when I threw a wobbly at him rubbishing all my girls names and offering me nothing in return!

CoventGarden75 · 06/11/2014 20:24

regular i don't know what it's worth, but here my list:

baby:
newborn outfit (inc hat, scratch mittens)
sleeping bag/blanket
nappies
diaper cream
soft toy (present from my 6 y.o. god daughter, i'll need a pic with it Smile)
bibs (is that necessary?)
muslin cloths
wrap/sling

me:
hospital notes / birth plan
magazine
phone / charger
camera / charger
long t-shirt (not sure about that in the pool tho)
ear plugs
toothbrush
hairbrush / hair bands
lip balm
spare contact lenses
maternity sanitary pads (not sure what that is, they didn't have any in superdrug, but i didn't ask)
massage oil
laundry bag
nursing bra
going home outfit (i guess the same as going to hospital outfit)
towel (apparently safer to take your own around xmas, limited service)
lactulose
snack / drinks

have i forgotten any essentials? is there anything not needed that i shouldn't bother with?

calling i like gabriel.

fx for the colds to go away and all the babies to turn around and be ready to dive

regularbutpanickingabit · 06/11/2014 21:01

Thanks covent! I do remember lip balm being a godsend after gas and air and hot hospital wards. Just make sure you have shower gel, flannel/sponge and deodorant as well.

Maternity pads are massive and you can get them from mother care. If I remember rightly, I used them in the hospital and them moved on to the ultra long and ultra absorbent night normal towels because they were more comfy.

I would also pack more than one night thing/long top because the labour one will come off soon after and you want something fresh to put on!

Thanks for the reminders!

StrawbsAndCream · 06/11/2014 22:54

Basgetti great news that you've stayed sickless for 7 days! Not so much on the sitting up baby with painful movements, ouch! I get painful movements with a head down baby so that mustn't be comfy at all! Atleast you will have an eviction date if the baby stays breech.

My appt went well thank you, although it was nearly 2 hours late, Didn't go in until 10 to 6! He is measuring 6lb3 at 35+1 eek! I was only 7oz bigger than that full term. So he is on track for being 9lbs at due date which I probably won't get out on my own because of my small frame. He was yawning on the scan and had his feet right up by his face the poor mite, must be well and truly squashed! So operation evict baby is almost here, I'm having a sweep at 38 weeks to try and get me going early and I'm to get ball bouncing and H is happy to comply with lots of sex, he said he's ready when I am and shall he book the day off work! Haha he won't know what's hit him, we weren't allowed to before because of my placenta previa!

Hi cakes! That's good she is on her way down! Hope you're feeling better soon, it's this maternity leave that does it.. As soon as we relax!

regular enjoy your shopping trip this weekend! Fingers crossed baby will turn for you. Not long until you can relax, glad work is slowing down for you.

Great list thanks covent there's some things on there I need for my own bag that you've reminded me to get! Please don't report me I promise I'll make him wear it all of Christmas Day put it on once just for a picture! Grin

Loving the baby names on here, calling Lara and Seth are both lovely!

Got quite emotional doing the baby clothes/bedding washing today, never thought I'd see the day. My house smells beautiful!

Penguin13 · 07/11/2014 07:26

Love it when you all get chatty SmileCongratulations on starting your mat leave strawbs - woo! That Mini jumper to go with yours is so stinking cute I might just have to follow suit!

Basgetti high five on 7 puke free days! Awesome news. Really hope it stays that way. Great news that whatever happens you have an end date in sight too. Am crafting a 'hard as nails for making it through this pregnancy' medal as we speak.

Thanks for the name reassurance everyone, I think it is just the weight of the responsibility that was making me go a little bit nuts overthink things. I love the name Evelyn Basgetti and Lara is in our top three girls names calling Smile Seth is a great name too.

Cakes great news the baby seems to know the exit route. Am a bit Envy as although head down yesterday at 36+3 mini penguin has not engaged at all yet.

To add to the already excellent lists I would say re chargers etc it's worth checking in advance whether your hospital allows you to plug stuff in. At mine they won't let you unless it's been PAT tested so I ended up getting a charging unit on amazon. You might need more than one outfit for the baby too if it poos all over the first . One good tip from my course was to have your drink in a sports cap type bottle as easier to drink from but also means you can re-use it to squirt warm water over yourself as you pee after the birth which helps it to sting less. Additionally I have some hypercal tincture in my bag - it's meant to help soothe your sore bits and help healing - you can add drops to aforementioned water bottle, to a mat pad and also use in the bath.

CoventGarden75 · 07/11/2014 21:58

thanks for the advice regular & penguin, i was thinking more than one outfit for baby and labour/post labour.

addition to the list:
breast pads
cash for cab

35+1

Sad dp has just been taken to a&e on the other side of town for knee injury, i wish i could be with him, and hope it's not too serious.

CallingAllEngels · 08/11/2014 13:09

Hope DH is okay covent

Second penguin's recommendation for squeezing water on your bits while you pee. I was at home for this (3 hours post birth) and was definitely sore on my stitches without the water.

32+6

Penguin13 · 09/11/2014 19:42

Your poor DP Covent, I hope it's nothing too serious and that he's not in too much pain.

Well it's my 2nd attempt at my driving test tomorrow morning - eek! My main hope is that I can control my nerves. I have some placebo rescue remedy pastilles this time and just need to remember to breathe! Confused

CallingAllEngels · 09/11/2014 20:06

Good luck penguin - everything crossed for you!

33w today and feeling uncomfortable. Baby is having a good stretch this evening!

CoventGarden75 · 09/11/2014 20:51

good luck penguin you can do it, just relax and you'll be fine.

We went to the hospital yesterday by bus, and a bit shocked to say that all the seats were taken and only 2 people were standing: a man on crutches and an 8 month pregnant women. Nobody offered a seat. I was very unimpressed by the one guy sitting across the two "reserved seats for less abled" people, and even less impressed when the mentioned guy turned out to be the doctor that "examined" DP at the hospital. DP is on crutches with a torn or ripped knee ligament, we still don't know. Very bad timing, his work planned for the next 6 months is now in jeopardy. He's free lance and gutted.

i hope you all had a better weekend

xx

Penguin13 · 10/11/2014 11:12

Oh no Covent sorry to hear that your poor DP could be out of commission for a while. That is truly awful that the doctor (and everyone else) made you both stand that is shocking!

Very pleased to report that 'woohoo I passed my driving test!!!!' Thank you all for your good wishes. SmileSmileSmile It has reinforced my belief in hypnotherapy and breathing techniques as I listened to my mp3 this morning to help me calm down and just kept taking deep breaths!

CoventGarden75 · 10/11/2014 11:23

Yoohoo well done penguin Smile

basgetti · 10/11/2014 12:55

Congratulations Penguin, that's great news! x

CallingAllEngels · 10/11/2014 12:58

Congratulations penguin !!!! Fantastic!!!!

Penguin13 · 10/11/2014 14:14

Thanks everyone . Beyond excited about no more Saturday morning driving lessons! Have been celebrating by nursing my cold/sore throat on the sofa snuggled under a duvet and watching films but about to venture out for a medicinal hot choc Brew Note to all those who like me are facing a resurgence in 1st trimester hormones, select your movies with care : will have to wait 10 minutes for face to return to normal before I can go out after uncontrollable sobbing fit brought on by re - watching Sliding Doors Blush

MrsFtn · 10/11/2014 15:59

Huge Congratulations Penguin - I was a wreck when I did my 3 driving tests when I was 17 - I can't believe you did it in the third trimester!! Hope your cold and sore throat go away ASAP. It's hard having a cold when you can only take parcetamol isn't it.

Covent so sorry to hear your DP is out of action. fx for a speedy recovery.

Basgetti are the sick-free days continuing? Hope baby has decided to turn for you.

My hormones have definitely kicked in now too Penguin it was DD's first day in a new pre-school today and she was putting on a brave face although I could see she was really nervous. I walked out with tears streaming down my face all the way home - she's only going to be there 3 hours a day! She came out so happy and chatty and full of it though so hopefully I can hold it together tomorrow.

Nesting instinct has also hit now - I even defrosted the freezer at the weekend - the first time in 4 years I've done it! Had to resort to using a hairdryer in the end as it took so long - obvs keeping it well away from the water! Hospital bags are all packed too - just got to remember mobile phone, charger, ipad and makeup bag at the last minute.

Love hearing all your baby names - they are all lovely. unfortunately DH and I still can't agree of a name for our baby boy. There are a few I quite like but none that I like enough iykwim.

Hope everyone is enjoying ML and not overdoing it. Hurry up and finish to those who are still working!

37+3

regularbutpanickingabit · 10/11/2014 16:27

Covent - so sorry to hear about your dh. Sounds really painful and as another self employed person I totally get the added to stress.

Penguin - congratulations!! Fantastic news and hope the nasty cold gets better soon.

Mrs ftn - I have a freezer here that could do with your nesting instinct!

I had a work week from hell last week and it really took it out of me. Calming down this week, thank goodness. Have bought first lot of stuff for labour bag and suddenly other decisions falling in to place.

35 weeks tomorrow. How did that happen?!

basgetti · 10/11/2014 22:43

Hi all, no MrsFtn they didn't last, I was very sick yesterday. Hoping it is just a blip where I ate too much and don't have much room rather than HG related, I've just grazed little and often today and feeling better. Baby has not yet turned but still so painful, I've been struggling to walk much the past few days! Attending the antenatal clinic tomorrow so will moan at them about it.

Everyone else being so organised is making me panic, I haven't even attempted to sort out my hospital bag yet and I keep worrying that I've forgotten some really important vital purchase for the baby but I can't think what it is!

Hope everyone is doing well.

34+1 today x

StrawbsAndCream · 10/11/2014 23:00

Covent I hope your DH is on the mend soon and doesn't need to take much time off work, fingers crossed for a speedy recovery!

Penguin!!! Yaaaay congratulations!! Well done! That must be a weight off your shoulders, I'm so pleased for you. I remember the lovely feeling of no more driving lessons, let alone having them at 9 months pregnant!

MrsFtn I'm glad your DD had a good first day, her putting on a brave face when nervous made me a bit wobbly..I think the hormones have hit us all!
Boys names are so difficult aren't they! I think we're slowly moving towards a decision. I agree with nesting, definitely kicking in here too. Just got to pack the hospital bags and I'm good to go. Wow you're full term, how did we get this far?!?!

regular sorry to hear about your rubbish week at work! Glad it's winding down now though.

News from this side.. My sister and friends organised a surprise 'baby shower' (hate that name) for me on Saturday, was just really lunch with the girls with a couple of games.. Really nice and had a beautiful cake, I'll put a pic on. Had some lovely gifts including a breast feeding pillow and Cath Kidston cow boy changing bag! A bit uneasy with the whole celebrating before he's here, wouldn't have the balloons back in my house! But it was fine :-)
The cot bedding and bunting I had made has come.. (Even though I'll take the bumper off when he's in..It's just to look pretty! Haha)

Had the midwife today, he's engaged woohoo! And didn't I know about it yesterday.. Felt like he was head butting my cervix every few minutes, very uncomfy.. Had a few concerned looks from H! Going to start ball bouncing in a few days.

Hope everyone's doing ok! X
