Shiny new thread ready and waiting for the highs and lows of the second trimester.

Lovely 20 weeks scan Penguin also reduced me to tears! Look at mini penguins little fingers, so cute.

ohhh, penguin that's brilliant, i love the frame with the elephants.

antenatal yesterday was ok, but too long, i so wanted to sleep in the afternoon, very difficult to keep the concentration going. The best part was after the course, as it took place at uch, the mw gave us a quick tour of the birth centre: seeing the water birth room and normal delivery room made it all very real all of the sudden.

6+3 to go Shock

Penguin13 · 29/10/2014 09:18

I know the feeling Covent. Our tour on sun seemed fairly abstract right up until we were in the birthing centre and heard a woman in labour bellow Grin

3 days to go till mat leave, can hardly believe it Shock More than ready to finish now though!

StrawbsAndCream · 29/10/2014 19:09

Ah I'm so rubbish on here at the moment! Hi everyone! Hope you're all feeling ok.. Loving the bumps.. Mine has definitely dropped these past couple of weeks.

Penguin love the blind and the elephant frame! You are so Martha Stewart right now Wink I may as well join in and share my 'feature' star wall I created with hand made sponges and tester pots! Nursery almost done now just some frames like yours penguin to put up.
A friend bought us this lovely chair to match as well.. I cried, it goes so well and was a lovely surprise!
So glad you got a cancelled driving test slot, fingers crossed for you. (I hope I'm remembering that correctly) 3 days eek, I've got 5 shifts left so officially on ML a week today.

How is everyone feeling in these final weeks? Any news?
Have people got their hospital bags packed? I think I've got most things I need, just need to pack it.. And wash baby's clothes and bedding, saving for ML!

Is anyone else getting lots of braxton hicks? They make my chest go tight when I have them.
Consultant scan next week to see how big he is, if he's looking to be about 10lbs I'll be csectioned straight away, if big but manageable it will be early sweeps and trying to go naturally then possibly induction, so we'll see!
He was about 5lbs at 33 weeks and starting to engage, eek.

Oh and has anyone else still not got a name/names sorted? We just can't agree! H loves Ellis, I love Hugo, we both quite like Albie and Ezra. Any opinions? I don't dare go near the baby names section!

5+6 to go (or probably less!)

Hi ladies, just been catching up on everyone's third trimesters. I had my last day at work today and am now on maternity leave so hopefully I'll have more time to keep up with the thread!

DH is off to Paris for three days tomorrow so I literally have everything crossed nothing 'happens' in the meantime! I have a growth scan booked at 9am tomorrow so hopefully that should give me the heads up if anything is imminent! I'm very interested to hear their estimated weight as DD was 9lb 8.5oz at 40+6. I had a great birth no with no tearing to speak of and no drugs so I am a firm believer that a bigger baby is easier to birth.

Penguin I'm sorry your first driving test didn't go so well. Hopefully you will be more relaxed next time and ace it. Got my fingers crossed for you.

You all seem very organised. I am hoping to get my bag all packed over the next few days. I am thinking of having separate bags for labour, for me after the birth and for baby's things. I can then leave the after labour stuff and baby's stuff in the car and DH can get them when we're ready. I didn't have any bags with me when I had DD because I didn't realise I was in proper labour when I went to get checked at the hospital and I was 9cm dilated so they didn't let DH leave to collect them from the car!

Loving the nursery pics. We only live in a 2 bed house so baby will have to share with DD when he is big enough to move out of our room. Luckily her room is neutrally decorated and she seems very excited about sharing with her new brother. I'm trying not to worry about it too much but I think it will be a struggle for space. Unfortunately we can't really afford to move for about another year or so.

Glad I haven't missed the first birth announcement on this thread but I understand there have been some on the other December thread - scary!

35+5 today.

MrsFtn · 30/10/2014 15:29

Wow 2 consecutive posts - I really do have more time on my hands!

I had scan this morning and baby is healthy and well which is great, -however...at 35+6 he is measuring 7.5-8lbs already! They didn't seem too worried but I have to go back for another scan in 2 weeks to 'see if they will let me go to term'. I'm not too sure what this means and I didn't want to ask but I'm hoping to avoid any induction/c-section discussions.

Hope everyone else is having a good day. Must get that hospital bag sorted now....

Penguin13 · 30/10/2014 20:37

I feel a rant coming on! I start my maternity leave on Monday. I literally told my boss about 5 months ago. Today he asked if I could be in on Monday because he needs a handover with me. Hmm Am I unreasonable in thinking WTF?!!! Needless to say I will not be going to work next Mon but it's stressful having to say no to my boss. Has really put a dampener on an otherwise lovely day with a really sweet card and some truly lovely gifts from my colleagues.

Mrs I shared a room pretty much from birth with my two older sisters and it never bothered me at all. In fact I used to love shared storytime before bed. I bet your DD will be a super -proud big sister and not mind sharing at all.

Sorry you had a slightly stressful appointment today. Hopefully next time you will get more of a chance to ask questions and arm yourself with information. Glad the baby is looking healthy and strong.

I love your nursery Strawbs the stars look ace and that gorgeous chair goes perfectly with them. I would have cried too!

Weirdly I had braxton hicks quite early on and mine now seem to have disappeared for the last few weeks though it may be that I just can't feel them anymore.

In name limbo here too. We've narrowed down to a few names for boys and girls but no final decision and for some reason middle names are stumping us. SIL also scuppered one of our fave girls names by saying something like "well, H liked x name but you couldn't do that to a child with our surname". It's because the name and surname would be alliterative (eg grace green). It had occurred to me but I really didn't think it was that bad! Blush Now it has to be off the list I think.

basgetti · 31/10/2014 08:43

Hi all, sorry I'm so rubbish on this thread these days, been back in hospital and came home again last night. Had enough now! They gave me a growth scan yesterday, baby seems to be growing okay despite having been malnourished for about half the pregnancy! Nearly 4lb at 32+4. I'll be back and forth to hospital the next few weeks as am going to have an abdo scan to make sure gall bladder etc are okay, and will also be having regular appts at the clinic so they can keep a better eye on me.

Hope everyone is doing well, the nursery pics are lovely. I'm only in a 2 bed house so baby will be in with us until we move somewhere bigger. DS still co sleeps with me half the time at 6 years old anyway so no rush! Will try to read thread now and catch up on everyone's news. xx

CallingAllEngels · 31/10/2014 08:56

basgetti sorry to hear you've been in and out of hospital again Flowers

penguin - shitty of your boss. I wouldn't be going in either. I wouldn't pay any attention to what your SIL said about a name. So what? If you love it then great (and one of the loveliest people I know has an alliterative name - it's so much a part of her that she double barrelled it with her husband's name when she got married as she didn't want to lose it!).

We have quite a few boys names but only one girls name. That's only because we can't agree on anything!

Have laid out my hospital bag stuff for baby but not for me. last time I only had one bag and didn't have to stay in (was home 3 hours after DS was born) though may pack a post-birth hospital bag just in case.

Nursery is basically finished and everything down from loft. Just the pram and playpen to sort which I won't do till I start ML.

4 weeks left at work, though don't think I'll get 4 weeks before baby comes - I have a feeling this one is coming a week or two early.

8w+2 to go (31+5 today!)

basgetti · 31/10/2014 09:36

God yes, I really need to sort out hospital bag, I may have to get a separate one organised, so I have my usual one for my admissions and then another one with baby stuff in for the actual birth!

Those who have had scans, what position has your baby been in? Mine is breech. I'm nearly 33 weeks and they said there is still time for it to turn at this stage but I'm getting a bit worried.

CoventGarden75 · 31/10/2014 11:24

strawbs lovely nursery. No BH so far, but swollen and painful hands and feet for the last few days. Re names: from your list, Hugo is defo my fav by a mile. penguin I wouldn't worry about alliterative names, it's actually easier to remember. I decided on the first name years ago, but we're having problem with the surname, both ours are a bit problematic, and the combination will be even worse, but that's probably what she'll end up with, lucky we're having a girl I tell you.

ftn & basgetti good to hear baby is doing well. I haven't had a scan since 20w, but the next and last one is in 2 weeks @ 36w. From kicks and hiccups, I think she is lying diagonally, head bottom left, feet top right.

I asked my brother for a small rubber duck and got a cute selection, I love them Smile

The shiny new Pregnant after MC due December 2014 thread #2
CallingAllEngels · 31/10/2014 11:35

Jealous of anyone having a scan after 20w. When pg with DS we were given one at 30w and another at 34w but they've cutback now so you get 12w, 20w and that's it unless there's a problem. Baby was lying head down though at last appt at 30w (and at 27w) and have been told unlikely to move now.

DS loves his bath toys covent - he has a seal and starfish as well. He'll often get mixed up with languages and call the seal a seadog (literal translation with the Dutch zeehond) Smile

MrsFtn · 31/10/2014 20:59

covent bath toys are the best! DD loves hers (although seems just as happy playing with empty bottles too!) They're really cute and I bet baby will love them.

Calling very impressed DS is bilingual!

basgetti you are a true superstar! I can't believe all you've been through in this pregnancy - you must feel exhausted from all the sickness and hospital visits. Glad baby is doing well though. There's still plenty of time for him/her to change position. I've heard spending time on your hands and knees can help baby to turn. Do you have a birthing/gym ball you an lean over. Also acupuncture is supposed to be quite effective.

Thank you penguin and basgetti for the reassurance re sharing rooms. I know baby will be in with us at first so it gives us a bit of time to sort out where we are going to put everything.

Although we know we are having a boy we still cannot agree on any names and I'm starting to worry now that we won't have any by the time he arrives. We didn't have any boys names when I was pg with DD so it was just as well she was a girl! DH works in a boys school which doesn't help as he associates a lot of names with boys he teaches. I've read lots of name books and trawled the web but nothing is jumping out at me. I hope I will know it when I see/hear it

StrawbsAndCream · 31/10/2014 21:51

MrsFtn wow he is a good weight already! Maybe you'll just go naturally early.. But hopefully not until your DH gets back from Paris Wink, let us know how your next scan goes! Mine is in less than a week so we'll see then too. Boys names are so much harder than girls I think, especially with your DH working in a boy's school! I'm a nursery nurse so have the same problem, and my H loves top 10 names which I have had lots of!

Penguin how frustrating wrt your boss, argh! Surely handover should have been arranged in this last week or so seen as he's known for 5 months your leaving date, but yay for you being on ML now! Let the relaxing commence. Have you got any plans? 3 more shifts for me! I agree with calling ignore your SIL if you love the name, I like alliterative names too! We wrote our final 6 down that we're taking to the hospital. Would never tell anyone in RL so will on here! Hugo, Albie, Ellis, Ned, Ezra and Louis. (For the time being anyway, we have a very common surname so didn't want anything too 'normal'!)

Basgetti so nice to hear from you but sorry you've been in hospital again. That weight sounds perfect from what I remember thanks to mine weighing that at 29 weeks so did some research! Good news that they're keeping a close eye on you. Mine has been head down on every scan I've had since 16 weeks so think he just likes that position, is about 4/5ths engaged at the moment so hopefully no turning now! I think that's plenty of time for yours to turn though, there's a good website I've read on here called 'spinning babies' or soemthing that's meant to have good tips for turning them.

Calling home 3 hours after your DS was born! Wow, hopefully you'll get the same again, maybe you will be early if you have a gut feeling. 4 weeks will probably go very quickly, the weeks just seem to be flying last at the moment. Am really enjoying it though, it's only been since around 29 weeks that I've relaxed as I know he had a good chance of survival from then. Did anyone else feel like this? I wonder if other people think like this or if we're more susceptible to it because of our miscarriages. I won't be in a hurry to have another straight away as I've been a bit of a worried wreck up until recently. Still don't really believe I'll have a real baby to take home!

Covent those bath toys are lovely, very sweet of your brother! Will he be the fun uncle?! Swollen hands and feet sound sore, hope it's not too bad. When do you start ML?

I've got a bowl full of mini haribo sweets as we only had about 5 lots of trick or treaters tonight, I better eat them just incase they feel sad for being left in the bowl, that would never do.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Shanels · 02/11/2014 11:10

Hi everyone! Sorry I haven't posted for a while- I actually wrote twice but both times Lost thrm before posting!!
covent love love those little ducklings!
strawbs haribos are yum- hope you enjoyed each and everyone ;)
basgetti hope all is well now for you both

I've done my antenatal classes and the hypnobirtging one day course. All have been very useful. However, like everyone else, work has taken over a bit as I'm training my cover and I'm not enjoying it. Got one more week until ML though and can't wait.
I just joined the Facebook group of the other mumsnet discussion group and there has been a new November baby at 34 weeks. Both mother and baby sound well. How exciting!
I hear that most of you are having scans at 36 weeks and as I'm not due for one I'm wondering if I should get one privately. It's the extra money that's stopping me though. What do you guys think?

Today I'm trying to pack my hospital bag but my hatred of packing is slowing me down big time. Procrastination is my middle name.
Oh and penguin and strawbs what gorgeous nurseries. I'm so envious!
Happy Sunday too all!

Penguin13 · 03/11/2014 05:59

The preg-somnia has got me today - so much for my lie-in to celebrate the start of mat leave! Mini penguin has apparently been inspired by me watching Strictly as I believe there is a samba going on inside my belly Smile

Basgetti sorry things are still bad for you. Good news that baby is doing well despite it all, it's amazing how resilient they are. Any news on a possible induction date?

Thanks for the reassurance on alliterative names - if we do end up going with that name DH has already bagsied telling SIL. Not sure whether he will follow through with the plan to tell her that we hadn't thought of the name until she mentioned it but both really liked it - evil grin - Grin

Strawbs I had a similar dilemma with the Halloween goodies, we had zero trick or treaters Shock I have therefore been forced to ensure the fun size choccies don't go to waste .

Ah, love the cute bath toys Covent. I bet the baby will have great fun splashing about with those.

Sorry to hear about the painful hands and feet, make sure you do put your feet up as much as you can as it does seem to help (easier said than done I know). My feet have been swollen too but luckily they're not painful apart from when they get a bit big for shoes.

Is anyone else planning a water birth? It's a bit pot luck where I am as there are only 2 pools so it's first come first served but it's what I'm hopeful for. Which reminds me that top of my list for today is to write out my birth plan.

Shanels and Strawbs you are nearly there! Not long till you can breathe a sigh of relief and put your feet up on the mat leave couch Smile I didn't enjoy training my mat cover either Shanels she's really sweet I just found it an odd process and very rushed given that we were also in the process of organising a launch for 350 people in late November! Whatever happens this week though in one week's time you really won't care about it (or so I am reliably informed).

I haven't had a scan since 20 weeks either Shanels. I go through phases of panic wondering if everything is really ok but mostly the regular mw appointments are enough to reassure me. Is there something in particular that's concerning you that you'd like to check out on the scan?

Penguin13 · 03/11/2014 06:01

Sorry for the massive post - you girls have been very chatty lately so there was a lot to catch up on Blush

Shanels · 03/11/2014 06:55

Morning penguin
It's the programme about still births that got me thinking and then anxious, otherwise I was fine. I've got my 36 week appointment with discussion of birth plan on Friday so that's on my list this week. Water pool was recommended on my courses so that might be something I go for... So indecisive.

Thanks for the advice about work. You're right.

As for alliterative names, I've been saying how I didn't want our girls name to start with S due to our surname starting with S AND I've also been saying how I didn't want a top ten name etc etc.. So partly due to compromise in our marriage and partly because I love the name we are thinking of going for Sofia with Turkish middle name (my family is Cypriot). I guess what I'm saying is go for what you want and forget the rest.
Have a lovely Monday! Hope you can catch up with your sleep in the day. Xx

CallingAllEngels · 03/11/2014 07:17

Alliteration won't work for us properly since oursurname begins with a letter that is pronounced differently in english and dutch, and I want a name that can be pronounced easily in english and is not too different from dutch pronunciation.

Saw you on the fb group shanels !

Yep, as soon as ML starts you won't care about what's happening. I have teacher's guilt since I am leaving my A-level class and my lower school classes have teachers who know nothing aboutour syllabus and curriculum/have never taught in an International school before.

12 more days of w8rk over 4 weeks (part-timer) but still so much to do before I go! Have pretty much planned all my lessons for the next 4 weeks but still working on planning to hand over to three different people, and sorting out as much of Christmas show as I can before I leave, and tidying my stuff!

Work not as stressful and tiring as home though. DS (3) is very demanding atm and I can't keep up with him and feel very guilty that I can't do more physical and outdoorsy stuff right now.

penguin and strawbs we had no trick or treaters...not very big here..but I have a serious sweet tooth right now. May make some cinnamon rolls today with ds if I can summon the energy.

strawbs 3 hours post birth not unusual here. Home birth is encouraged and very easy to arrange and we are lucky enough to have 2 birth centres to choose from, both within hospitals. If I had wanted a hospital birth as well, that would have been fine. We're going to birth centre less than 5 mins drive from our house.

32+1

CallingAllEngels · 03/11/2014 07:22

Our top girls name is Sofie shanels - in fact it's the only girls name we have as we can't agree on anything!

basgetti · 03/11/2014 12:30

Hi Penguin well the scan showed baby is breech so it might not get to induction unless she turns! I'm seeing consultant next week where hopefully I can talk through the options.

Names are tricky aren't they? Sofie and Sofia are both lovely. Our chosen name begins with the same letter as DS' name so they sound a bit 'matchy' and they will have the same initials. So will be Edward (who is ALWAYS known as Eddie) and our girls name is Evelyn (possibly shortened to Eve). Now wondering if they will sound like twins!

Hope everyone is okay xx

CoventGarden75 · 04/11/2014 04:08

Good to hear from everyone. I've been lazy haven't had a chance to post. Now can't sleep but on phone so hard to remember everything you said and comment and recent software update means I can't see what I'm typing. Great.

I was considering water birth as well, but same here, only 2 pools available. And it feels like baby has turned the wrong way and has gone from oblique to transverse. So yeah, stupid me, I googled it, and basically transverse=c-section, I nearly cried, I might not even be able to do a natural delivery. Luckily I'm seeing mw this afternoon, hope she has some good advice.

Edward is a lovely boy's name too.

On the positive side, swelling has gone away, lots of lying down, and compression socks while at work from now on. 3 weeks to ML for me, 11 working days, can't wait.

Hospital bag started, it's more a pile of stuff in a corner right now, but progress! Still can't quite believe there is a baby on her way. Strangely 3rd tri is the easiest for me so far. Getting used to massive belly look, but still knocking stuff off the table with it.

basgetti · 04/11/2014 11:01

Covent I know how you feel, I've been obsessively googling breech babies since my scan, I even started a thread yesterday about it as the thought of a c section was my worst nightmare. I hope baby turns for you soon, I've looked at ways to try to encourage her to turn but most of them are too physical for me as movement makes me sick so I'll just keep sleeping on my left side and hope for the best!

Hope your MW appt goes well and you can get some reassurance, I have 34 week appt tomorrow pm and then clinic next week where I will have a long list of questions!

Hope everyone else is doing well xx

CoventGarden75 · 04/11/2014 21:20

basgetti sorry to hear your baby is breech, an extra worry you could do without, hopefully she will turn soon, sleeping on your left side is a good start, maybe they can try ECV? everything crossed for you, good luck with mw tomorrow.

Over here, mw had a feel and said: "no, all good, the head is down" so i've been panicking for nothing, she made me touch my lower abdomen, and asked if i could feel the head, I said yes, but really didn't feel anything Blush. Birth plan done. And i've also booked a place on the NHS breastfeeding course.

shanels even though they don't offer it as routine where you are, if you're worried, can you ask for an extra reassurance scan?

Over the weekend, i got brave and took the mobywrap out and tried it, following youtube instructions, not as difficult as it looked to put on, now i just need a baby to practise the next step.

penguin i hope you're enjoying and making the most of ML, i'm so Envy

I can no longer stand my ML cover, that's bad...

Thinking of cutting my long hair, cos i'm fed up with it too, but then short hair is more maintenance. Can't make up my mind.

Shanels · 06/11/2014 05:43

Morning all
covent I think I might mention it tomorrow at my 36 wk appointment and see what they say. However, I think the feeling is if you have no issues, then you don't need it.

Now I'm also finding it hard to like my MC and she is actually a friend- she was working with me 4 years ago before she went on ML herself. She had only been back for 2 days and was already saying 'why doesn't this change and that change?' So I'm planning to be open about this today and remind her and my manager that I am coming back and to make any changes with careful thought and discussion. What do you think?

Oh and the hair cut urge is something I've been thinking about too- new mum with new hair cut? I have shoulder length hair and have loved bobs all my life. But DH hates bobs so not doing that this time and he loves the Frankie short style (strictly). That to me is too short and very scary. I then thought maybe it would be nice to have my hair cut after baby has arrived pre-Xmas? Still thinking but like you am indecisive.

Been sick all week so far with horrible cold and cough... Hope you all avoid these viruses as it reall is unbearable at this stage.

Penguin13 · 06/11/2014 07:34

Morning all. Just woke up and doing a little happy dance that at least for a night my body decided I needed some rest!

Sorry for those struggling with ML cover. Mine did start to grate on me by needing to be walked through every little thing (including a full run-down of all the different sizes and types of envelopes and where exactly they could be located Hmm) but it will be a distant memory soon I promise. Shanels I definitely would find a way to convey that message and being direct about it could be the best way. Surely she needs to be in the job longer than 5 mins before making any kind of judgements about what if anything needs to change anyway?!

Oh poor you Shanels. Colds are horrible at the best of times let alone when ur pg and can't take much. Hope it goes away soon. Have a medicinal Brew from me.

Great news about baby turning head down Covent, hope the same happens for you Basgetti. I'm off to mw today so hoping mini p is still in a good position.

Yay for wraps! Am really hoping our baby enjoys ours as I personally can't wait to get them in it :-)

I need some name advice and I'm too scared to go near the actual name boards! One of our top girls names from the start has been Hazel but would it be weird if someone was called Hazel but had, say brown hair and blue eyes? Obvs don't know exactly what colouring our dc will have but unlikely to be brown/hazel eyes. Am I just being ridiculous and over-thinking this? I am having a name wobble in general, suddenly questioning all the names I really like. Argh! Confused
