Hi all! Had my booking in appointment today I was quite surprised really as was very formal and there was no congratulations banner or music playing!! Just lots of questions and blood taking.
I didn't realise they only give you two scans over all!

Memphisbelly · 15/07/2014 20:57

Yes littlemiss and now visits to her have dropped too since I had ds! When she said you will next see me at 16 weeks I nearly collapsed in shock!
Did you all get given the info on Anthony Nolan cord donation for stem cell bank? I am going to do ours just waiting to get my book back to stick in the sticker

JacktheLab · 15/07/2014 21:27

Checking in from a hot and sticky london in the caravan, too hot for this peely wally scot!

Hope everyone is well, I have almost no symptoms left, tiny bit if morning sickness left but not really enough to mention, so bit of worrying here too. Scan is in three weeks, still ages to wait!

GeekyHybrid · 15/07/2014 21:28

Memphis - I'm sure mardy is a term used in South Yorkshire, it seems very familiar anyways!

And please do all sign up for the Anthony Nolan stem call bank. My friend little Luke lost his battle with leukemia at the age of 6 in 2010, OH and I are already signed up as potential bone marrow donors (that's really easy to register for too) so will definitely be doing the stem cell bank.

Got my booking in appointment tomorrow morning and well nervous, fingers crossed that she can book me in for the scan. Night all.

Memphisbelly · 15/07/2014 21:36

Geeky I didn't realise it was a yorkshire thing too, I thought Mardy bum was as Leicester as 'me duck' and Walkers crisps!
Hope all goes ok for you tomorrow and you get a scan date

LondonBOB · 15/07/2014 22:18

Thanks for the welcome guys :)
I wanted to get your views on something pls. Has anyone else decided to go with this Harmony scan privately? Our GP freaked us out a bit talked about Downs etc and recommending private scans etc. said @ 34 I have 1/415 chance of baby with DS. I'm Irish, so this is all v new to me as there's no test for it in Ireland as you can't get abortion there legally for example, so the doctors simply don't seem to bring it up.
So DH looked into the private option and I found place doing package deal of viability and unchallenged scan and harmony test, so we've booked in. To be honest I'm now relieved as I'm getting first viability scan Monday, and despite being with doctors over two weeks ago, still have no booking appointment yet!
I'm just wondering if we're over doing it by doing this private thing?

Memphisbelly · 15/07/2014 22:54

London do whatever makes you put your mind at ease, I have had private scans with ds. Do they not do the blood tests like they do here? Sounds like the doctor is scaremongering a bit 34 isn't old IMO. My aunt recently had a baby at 42 and my step mum also at 42 (she works in medicine) neither had the downs screening.

hazzerw · 16/07/2014 04:30

Hallo! Just piping up to introduce myself. I'm 10 weeks, feeling pretty sick, using acupressure bands and desperate to tell work but won't until after my scan. This is DC2 for me. Exciting!

BanglesSpangles · 16/07/2014 08:51

Morns all, and hello to hazzer

Booking in app today for me

london I agree with memphis- if it'll make you rest easy, go for every scan you want! I think 1/415 sounds less scary when its turned into a percentage too- think of it as 0.2% and it doesnt look as bad to me :)

Burmama · 16/07/2014 09:01

bbcargill I woke up this morning with cramps too for the first time (11w+2). Was getting properly scared but then they passed after breakfast and a second lie-down. Every bit of me just feels more sensitive and apt to cramp or spasm at the slightest provocation. Anyway, hope yours are feeling better now! Smile

Morning all scan for me later, I feel too excited to do any of the jobs I need to do, just put cartoons on for ds while I had a bath.

I feel so big already I am really struggling to grt my head round it, dh told a few people last night and some have said they knew as I am a lot bigger but didnt want to say in case I wasn't

Memphisbelly · 16/07/2014 15:31

Just had the scan and it was amazing, he was in perfect position for measurements and kept opening its mouth and stretching its legs and kicking, ds was amazed and I cried, he is so happy and excited and hasn't stopped asking questions about it since the an.
Was shocked though that I had the NT blood tests straight after the scan rather than at surgery like last time.

suzimagoozi · 16/07/2014 16:14

Been a while since I've been on but so glad I went for an early private scan. Was 10+6 (so now 11+3). Might be one of the first to pop being due on 2 Feb. Was so worth it to see and couldn't believe I could see tiny legs kicking! Blew me away :) Booking app. not til next Wed then 12wk scan next Thur. Can't wait to be able to shout it from the roof tops :)

Memphisbelly · 16/07/2014 16:23

Suzi ah earlier for you too...
Forgot they put me at EDD 27th Jan now!

suzimagoozi · 16/07/2014 16:52

No skipping threads to the Jan 2015 one Memphis ;) I jut saw the programme for Bumpfest. Anyone else keen to go? I'm going to soak up any expertise I can get!

GeekyHybrid · 16/07/2014 18:31

Had my booking in today, the mw was lovely but she was just covering for the lady who covers my area who's on holiday at the mo. So I've still got to see my 'official' mw but she did take bloods etc.. (I really am crap at peeing on command, had to take the jar/tube home!) and was really sympathetic about the trying to get a scan before the wedding so that we can tell people - she's going to chase it with the head of scanning for me and made notes regarding wedding date so fingers crossed.

Hope everyone is coping with the heat. I've got to admit I'm not doing as well as I usually do, drank 2.25 litres in

LondonBOB · 16/07/2014 22:09

Thanks Bangles good advice! Like the 0.2% view on things too!
Why do people say +? E.g. 10+3.... I'm not getting how people are counting. I'm just going on the first day of my last period?

LondonBOB · 16/07/2014 22:10

The heat is NOT helping, I agree.... I'm sleeping with just a sheet these nights!

Memphisbelly · 16/07/2014 22:35

London it is worked out from first day of period so I am 12+1 I am 12 weeks and a day, think its because at this size they grow so much week to week the mw likes you to be able to say 10+6 etc. today she said 12+1 so I said so 12 weeks and she said well 12 weeks adds an extra day to EDD.

Been cinema and for a meal tonight and I managed to eat it.....was so good. I am so much more relaxed since the scan, I am so happy. Bought a white bsbygrow and showed ds and he said 'this is for our baby' aww

donkir · 16/07/2014 22:35

10+3 would mean 10 weeks and 3 days pregnant. Personally i just count the weeks but I think the mw does it with weeks and days.

Memphisbelly · 16/07/2014 22:37

But yes like Donkir I just count weeks when not with mw Grin

BanglesSpangles · 16/07/2014 22:59

Hi all, booking in was not as clinical as i was expecting- midwife was really lovely and there was another lady in there too doing notes and stuff, so it all felt quite chatty and personal... Probably should have asked who the second lady was, but i felt overly polite!... Would it be weird for it to be two midwives, i wonder...

Anyway, all dandy, apart from the fact that i apparently have tiny veins, which made for uncomfortable blood taking, so we've told all the parents tonight and are feeling like its all a bit real now :)

jenmcspen · 16/07/2014 23:12

I had two midwives for my booking in, but one of them was a student so at least I knew who she was Smile

Can't wait until tues for my 12 week scan, so excited Grin

freneticfox · 16/07/2014 23:33

Be warned.. Ranty post! This is turning out to be the most pointless and rubbish holiday ever. When I try to suggest pregnancy friendly things for DH and friends to do, it's all 'nahh.. Let's watch yet another shitty TV show we usually watch while playing games on our phones'. Then it's all about going hiking, hot tubbing, other outdoor activities that I just can't do. I've spent a huge chunk of the time alone and DH thinks I'm being too sensitive because it's 'his holiday too'.

Honestly, I'd rather be at work. At least people acknowledge my existence there.

Plus, at 10±1, my night nausea has returned. Hoping it's just emotions running high though.
