Jack it is 35 here half price at the moment, dh just doesn't see the point im going for it, I have tried every tactic own to man to get him to agree, its not the money he said....more the fact he thinks I should be patient! Hmm

jenmcspen · 20/08/2014 14:04

We have agreed to let it be a surprise. .. (although the impatient control freak in me is DESPERATE to know). Am trying to go along with it as I know it is what my OH wants and I want him to feel more involved.

jenmcspen · 20/08/2014 14:05

Though tbf I will probably spend less before baby is born by not knowing... Can't really find much unisex stuff that I like so far!

lawyeredout82 · 20/08/2014 14:12

Our 20w scan isn't til 24th September - five whole weeks to wait! I don't know how I am going to survive such a long wait! I have no flutterings/butterflies/movements yet but heard the heartbeat yesterday at my MW appointment which was reassuring! Clothes are getting tighter but I am still in my normal clothes for now...am guessing I have another couple of weeks?!

lawyeredout82 · 20/08/2014 14:16

PS, we are also dying to find out whether it's a boy or a girl - not that we mind either way, we just want to know! Had to physically restrain my mum in Mothercare the other day from buying unisex clothing...it seems so early to be buying things and I managed to fob her off with the fact she can buy pink or blue things in five weeks' time...

Memphisbelly · 20/08/2014 14:36

My mum keeps buying stuff, she has bought 3 babygrows from Next, muslins, moses basket, got lady to knit me cardi, mitts, socks.
We have gone through our knitting books at work and earmarked things I want for boys and girls and the colours I like (don't like baby blues and pinks)
My big thing is all of these 'helpful' people who keep bombarding me with mostly terrible names...once we know the sex the a,ount of names should halve.

ProudlymadeinSA · 20/08/2014 15:01

Hi bimberley - are the kicks like little flutters or more forceful? With all my vomiting and nausea I can't tell if it's baby or my insane tummy. 17 weeks tomorrow too.

Frenetic - I have had a bit of a relapse and gynae today said the problem is that your body can get used to certain medicines so you either need to switch to something else for a bit or up the dosage. I am going to try mix things up a bit. Might be something ask your doctor about.

My gynae tentatively told me she thinks the baby is a girl, but will hopefully be able to confirm that at 20 week scan in 3 weeks' time. Exciting! We are overseas and you get scanned every month minimum. Don't know how I would cope with only 2 scans per pregnancy!

Lots of friends have offered to give us baby stuff which is great, especially because all the gear can be a bit pricey here and the range isn't amazing.

Hope everyone is well.

jenmcspen · 20/08/2014 15:45

I haven't actually bought anything yet, but have done a lot of looking. MIL is chomping at the bit to buy things so a few bits are creeping into the house!

donkir · 20/08/2014 16:20

The only thing other than clothes for me I've bought is some Medela nipple formers as I have inverted nipples and struggled to bf last time. We've chosen the pushchair/pram but are waiting until gender scan to purchase so we can pick right colour. My df and dsm have bought an old silver cross style pram in an auction to keep at their house.

BanglesSpangles · 20/08/2014 16:23

Still 5 and a half weeks til my next scan- Already starting to get the same rising sense of panic that I did before the first one- still no symptoms, no sign of a bump- nada! I have done a lot of looking at the first scan pic to reassure myself!

My mum has already bought her first baby thing- she said I'm not allowed to actually take it home or anything until the baby's here, but she couldn't stop herself! I've not bought anything at all- It all still seems a bit remote and 'imaginary' to be actually doing anything yet!

HerRoyalNotness · 20/08/2014 16:34

I actually found out this week, only 14w gone. I had to see a consultant here (USA) as I'm an old gimmer. I knew they were going to do the blood test to find out which would take another couple of weeks. Dr said, do you want to know what you're having, and I assumed for the form for the bloodwork, said yes, and she said it's a girl. I just burst into tears and couldn't talk. I have 2 wonderful sons' and did assume I'd have another. We are all thrilled to bits! DS1 said, I told you mum, I knew it, I knew it. He is so excited!

And yes, I've started buying some bits already, trying to get them in the sales. Have sent MIL (in UK) a little girls' outfit from boden, when it arrives, I will tell her to open it. DH doesn't think she'll get it...... I guess I'll say, open it and you'll know what your 5th grandbaby will be. She has 2 GDD and 2 GDS so either way she will be thrilled.

On another note, does anyone think there is a link between morning sickness and the prenatal vitamins? I've been trying to work out why I've been ill lately and thought I'd traced it to the smell of my car. Last 2 mornings I've driven to work with windows open and not been ill on arrival. But then about an hour ago I took my vitamins and am now feeling quite ill, realised I didn't take them yesterday or first thing this morning, and didn't feel ill after driving in. They are a trial pack I got from OBGYN so maybe they don't agree with me, I'll go back to the others I was originally taking and see if it makes a difference.

On DH paternity front, not sure it exists in US. But we've decided he'll carry on working. He'll do shorter days for 2 weeks, dropping the DSs to school and picking up so at least I won't have to leave the house for the fest couple of weeks. He is so busy and stressed at work, people leaving and he is taking on their work alongside his, no way he could take the time off really. And I think his idea works for us.

ProudlymadeinSA · 20/08/2014 16:42

(Can I also confess I have become semi obsessed with finding the right buggy? So ridiculous and totally unnecessary, but it's the thing that I google if I am up bring sick in the night!)

BanglesSpangles · 20/08/2014 16:45

royalnotness i have to say, i do think we're mega lucky in the UK with all the maternity leave and stuff- It's only when you hear about what happens in the States and it seems like there's bugger all that you count your blessings!

and 'grats on the girl news!

ProudlymadeinSA · 20/08/2014 16:49

Her royal notness - that's fantastic! Congrats! Love the MIL idea... Wish I'd thought of that before I texted everyone in a frenzy!

And yes, the vitamins can make you sick. Try a different brand or taking them at a different time of day. Now you are past 12 weeks I think the folic acid etc doesn't matter really so you could try skipping a few days and see how you feel. Alternatively some women try vitamins without iron in them, and others try kiddie vitamins, eg flintstones, which can be gentler on the tummy. Good luck!

donkir · 20/08/2014 16:55

Prenatal vitamins can make you sick. I was taking pregnacare and felt so ill. I'm now on sainsburys own brand with not as many different vits in but seem to be all good so far.

HerRoyalNotness · 20/08/2014 17:21

Oh gosh it's probably that then, I'll try my old ones again and see how I go. Might start taking them just before bed and hopefully will sleep through the sick. Also notice stools very dark so maybe too much iron for me.

Just checked paternity leave, they offer up to 12 weeks unpaid. And have just seen I need to be in my job for at least 12mths to qualify for my job protected 3mths. That will be 3weeks before my due date so hoping I'm not early!
I've had a baby in UK and one in Canada and the best mat pay so far has been canada. I don't know why the US is so backwards on this issue.

Bimberley · 20/08/2014 17:37

Proudly I have been feeling what feels like gurgling for a couple weeks but thought was just wind. But this morning they were forceful kicks :) No more yet but I have been busy

GeekyHybrid · 20/08/2014 19:20

HerRoyal - we're also hoping sproglet isn't early as OH will literally be on week 41 in his new job on our due date. Men have to be in their jobs for 40 weeks to qualify for the 2 weeks paternity. Eeeks. MIL was telling me both he and his brother were 12 days late so fingers crossed.
Still battling the tiredness here, just wanna sleep. But only 3 days until holiday so hopefully by the time I've relaxed for a week it'll of eased off.
Tomorrow is my consultant appointment to see if the fibroids are going to be a problem, I'm really hoping that it won't restrict my choices as really got my heart set on using the birthing pool. An early night with the kindle (again!) me thinks.

Bimberley · 20/08/2014 19:56

My dh won't qualify for paternity as will have only been in current job for 30 weeks by the time baby is here :(

thingsarelookingup · 20/08/2014 20:00

Congrats on the girl news royal and proudly. That is so exciting. We've just about maxed this thread out. Any ideas for naming the next one?

jenmcspen · 20/08/2014 20:21

I think we should name it 'roll on the glow!' lol am starting to think pregnancy glow is a myth! Sad

Bangonthedoor · 20/08/2014 20:37

jenm the pregnancy glow is definitely a myth...

jenmcspen · 20/08/2014 20:59

Sadly I'm beginning to agree Sad
