Tornado missed us by 30 miles (ehm, 48 km); only penny-sized hail, about 1.5 cm. Yay!

Calvemjoe & Woodelf - congratulations to you both!!
Calvemjoe, at your DS. Always easier when older sibling is happy about the new addition!
Woodelf, I would've loved a water birth! Sorry about surgery ... hope all heals well and fast!

Angelfaces - Congrats on your Leo!! (Love the name.)

Redz, Liquid & Puppy - May it happen very soon!!! [fingers crossed icon]

Homemama, just noticed what you've said about your stomach vs. last time ... mine is the same.

Had a huge crying jag today - no, not about the stomach - but, darn hormones. By early November, hoping to sort out if there's a real problem, or just some temporary hormones leftover from pg wreaking temporary havoc. Feeling great now but for 3 hours today wanted to just die.

liquidclocks · 24/09/2006 08:41

Have had my donughts for breakfast today - feeling MUCH better (never mind homemama, it's good really becasue it'll be nice to have some energy when it does happen!). Only thing this am is ( if TMI then sorry) I went to the loo and my discharge has gone a bit green and sticky so got to go into delivery suite for swab - might be cheeky and ask for a sweep while I'm there if things look favourable and they think it's safe!

Marls - VERY pleased to hear the tornado missed you though the hail doesn't sound very nice! Sorry you've been feeling low too, I'm sure it's hormones but it doesn't make it any easier at the time does it? Hope a good cry helped, does for me when I'm low, and that you feel better very soon.

Angelfaces - many congratulations, Leo is a lovely name (DH won't like anything like that for ours but I love it!)

Petrified - Are you still lurking? Hope everything is ok.

clairemow · 24/09/2006 09:39

Congratulations Woodelf and Angelfaces - wow, isn't Alexander tall Woodelf!

So sorry to hear you've been feeling low Marls. Can you get some time for yourself? Perhaps a bath with candles and lavendar oil to pamper yourself a little. The tiredness doesn't help does it? Thank goodness you missed the tornado though (or rather it missed you). Phew.

Liquid, at your sickness. I also felt nauseous the day before Fraser arrived, so maybe your lo is not far off...

mandaz · 24/09/2006 11:03

Hi all, hope everyone is ok. Welcome to all new LO's. Am settling in well with Georgia, despite getting a nasty womb infection last week. I have put a couple of photos of Georgia on the Yahoo page as I couldn;t work out how to put them on here. She is such a good baby and I totally adore her! She;s already showing so much character and has quite a temper on her (not at all like her Mummy!)Best wishes to all.

Coriander73 · 24/09/2006 12:07

Marls...we all understand how you feel. I've been incredibly blue since Jack was born but it's lifting a little bit. The amount of hormone change is enough to send anyone compleatly dolaily for a while. Liquid is right have a good cry & know that we're all here for you...

Liquid, I too felt quite nauseaus just before things kicked off...maybe it's a sign?!!!

Woodelf · 24/09/2006 15:09

Hi, I thought 55 cm was tall but someone told me of a 60cm long baby!?
Clairemow, I guess he may be tall as I'm 5'9 and daddy is 6'4! Still to get round to reading all the messages but so glad that the babies are popping out. I agree about being able to bend down again and sleep on my back it is such a relief!
Alexander had a stomach pain last night so sleep for all of us at a minimum - just so grateful DH is so good with him too and does winding and preparing extra formula feed with no fuss.
Too many visitors this weekend I think threw his pattern a bit and must have been the cause.... still a bit at BIL expecting ME to make him a cup of tea!!!

Hugs to all

liquidclocks · 24/09/2006 16:03

Hope you told hm where to find the kettle woodelf!

Well, I've had my internal and swabs taken, just need to wait for results but they said there's nothing 'raging' down there as they could hardly see anything - But I don't mind being a bit on the cautious side, I had thrush when DS was born and he got it in his mouth poor thing and if I'd just been more on the ball then... - lesson learned! The doctor had a go at a sweep for me and managed to get just one finger in, she said it's unlikley LO will arrive before his due date so I can relax for a bit and stop wondering now! I was told to go home and have a 'romantic' (nudge nudge wink wink) evening with DH, have a curry and a pineapple! So, doctors orders...!

Mandaz - great to have an update - I'm off to look at your baby girl right now!

No posts from puppy/redz today - here's hoping they're in pain (or have been), I think this is the only time in life you can say that and it be a good thing!

liquidclocks · 24/09/2006 16:11

Mandaz - what a little beauty she is, your parents must be over the moon too! She's definitely a Georgia Rose, the name you've picked suits so well.

I'm amazed that all the babies so far have had hair, hope mine doesn't break the trend!

mimpim · 24/09/2006 23:42

Well, it turned out that the pains I was experiencing on Monday night were the real deal!!!
I thought it would all be so much more painful than it was at the time. Don't get me wrong, they did get FAR more painful but at the time it was bearable!

So, my beautiful baby girl was born on Tuesday Morning at 7.47. Bernadette Deborah, a hefty 8lbs 2oz, well hefty for me!
After pushing for two hours, the midwife decided that the baby was a little on the large side and that I would need some help. The Doctor was called and I was given a Ventouse. Unfortunately, the Midwife was right and this baby was a little on the large side, for me, and her shoulders got stuck.
All consideration for mothers pain barrier went out the window as the doctor began turning her to get her shoulders in a position where by he could get her out.
Apparently her tummy was also a rather tight fit.
Not to be out done, the placenta then decided it was not keen to put in an appearance and he had to actually put his hands in to prise it away!

All fun and games, but, thanks to an experienced hand, everything went well and my baby daughter was born unharmed.

Five days in hospital later and I am recovering well, only internal stiches which I can barely feel. And not a jot of it matters because I have fallen in love with this wonderful new person. The only thing is that she looks so much like her father , all I can lay claim to is her nose!!

Marls001 · 25/09/2006 03:28

Welcome back to Mandaz; so glad you?re enjoying beautiful Georgia Rose

Cori, Claire & Liquid ? Thanks so much. Am afraid this might be postpartum depression again but taking ?wait and see? approach re: medication.

Woodelf ? I take it BIL?s pretty clueless

Mimpim ? wow! Congratulations! Sorry re: pain; ouch at having to get out DDs shoulders and stomach! She was bigger than my 3-week-old DS! So glad you?ve settled in and are in love.

liquidclocks · 25/09/2006 09:18

Mimpim - congratulations! Scary story but great that you felt you had experts there for you, it's nice when the staff inspire confidence in you - hope you have a speedy recovery!

Marls - I really hope it's 'just' baby blues and not PND. We'll try and keep your spirits up with stories of our inept relatives and send as many virtual as your need.

Itching like crazy this morning so hoping it's a sign of active hormones! Also found out last night from my mum that my brother is not accepting any meetings for after thursday because he's 'on-call' for me! - sweet! He's taking his 'uncle' duty for coming to look after DS very seriously!

I've tried toup date the list, I think there might be some people near the top of the bottom part who haven't updated us yet but hope they're ok with their LOs - and good luck to everyone else left at the bottom with me...

Congratulations Mimpim - so glad everything turned out all right in the end. You did well only getting internal stitches from the sound of it!! Bernadette is a lovely name I think.

Liquid, isn't the itching just awful?!

Marls, thinking of you, and hope you have a good day today. Get DH to give you lots of hugs to go with our virtual ones. Xx

mandaz · 25/09/2006 14:32

Just popped on for a quick update, I can't believe how many September babies have arrived (I know it's nearing the end of September but it just seems to have come so quick!)I'm still adjusting to being a Mum. It's a very strange feeling. I think the wierdest thing is that my whole day is taken up with planning the next feed or worrying that Georgia won't sleep tonight and that this is it for the forseeable future! It's a tad daunting but I'm enjoying it all the same.

Marls - Hang on in there. I hope you feel better soon. Like you, I keep crying without warning and am feeling pretty low. I feel like I'm on auto-pilot at the moment and am getting really irritable with people, especially when people tell me it's just baby blues and is normal. I don't feel very normal!

puppy · 25/09/2006 17:10

congratulations to woodelf and mimpim

I'm afraid to say nothing is happening here yet, was quite busy yesterday so didn't get chance to come online.

not long till induction day (wednesday)

Still full of cold, I have a fluid build up in my ears too and have reduced hearing so I can't wait till lo arrives so I can take sudafed to clear it up. Unless theres any natural remedies out there? just using vapour rub on my pillow at night.

I hope redz is holding her lo now.

liquidclocks · 25/09/2006 17:27

Aww, puppy, sorry nothing's happened yet! Might be able to help with the ears though - you'll have to get DH to pop out to a late pharmacy though by the time you get this (though it can be used on babies too so a good investment). I've been using 'Sterimar' it's salt water nasal spray that (graphic - sorry!) you squirt up your nose and leave for a minute or so, then blow - all the gunk comes out. Thing is that once you've cleared your sinuses you can squirt again and tilt your head to one side and it goes up your ear canal and helps loosen all that stuff too - makes you much more comfortable - you'll need lots of tissues though (or do it in the shower). Hope thats of help.

Myrtle1 · 25/09/2006 21:16

Hello,

Congratulations on all the new arrivals. Edward was born on 20.9 at 7:33pm weighing 7lbs.
I'd had pains after coming back from dinner the night before and all through the night but they were mildish and then next day they were still regular and I had a show so put Tens on and phoned hospital who said they might wear off. They didn't and got more intense so we went into hospital at 5:30pm and midwife saw me at 6pmish. As she examined me, she gasped and told me I was 9.5cm dilated! Baby's heartbeat started dropping so they had to put the monitor on and break the waters and then I had a huge urge to push. As the heart rate had dropped quite low, they told me to just push and baby was born 40 mins later. Unfortunately I ended up with numerous tears including a third degree one. After such a good birth, I ended up needing a spinal block while they stitched me up and then had a few days in hospital on a drip and with a catheter in
Got home saturday and am feeling much better. Edward is gorgeous and well worth all the pain

Flumpybumpy · 26/09/2006 09:31

Hi everyone, well I can now graduate onto the babies born list :0

IT'S A BOY!!!!!! Jake Oliver was born by emergency section at 14:42 on Saturday 23rd in the afternoon.

Started having contractions @ 5am Saturday morning woke DH @ 6:30 to say things had started, had shower, put TENS on. Then contractions started coming every 2 minutes and v intense. Called hospital told to go straight in as had prev section. Got to hosp was already 4cm . Baby still lying back to back, given epidural as contractions so bad and frequent I couldn't talk. Epidural didn't work (onlt numbed my legs) eberything above hips I still felt. Topped this up 4 times and still didn't work. Doctor was called and was told there was no way this baby could out in the position it was in and was distressed as there was meconium in waters and heartrate falling. Taken into theatre given another epi top-up which still didn't work. Then tried to give me a spinal SIX times and it finally worked on the last attempt!!

Then Jake was born. We have been told that we are very lucky to have him as he had a true knot in the cord (they cut this out after and showed me) and hasn't been getting enough oxygen etc.. through the pregnancy.

He weighed in at a hefty 8lb 10oz and is gorgeous! I came home yesterday and feel tired but happy.

Coriander73 · 26/09/2006 11:02

Good grief Flumpy...what a birth story...so glad that you have little Jake (lovely name) in your arms & all is well Weighed the same as my Jack...!! Come & join us on the other side!!

OP posts:
clairemow · 26/09/2006 13:43

OMG Flumpy, what a tale. So glad you and Jake are all right though and it was all fine in the end. Phew.

And congratulations also to you, Myrtle - you did fantastically to be at home so long!

pol26 · 26/09/2006 14:27

Well done mytle and flumpy!!! More ladies having their babies! And not long for the rest of you either.

I can honestly say that even the sleepless nights get to you and the bottie changing, feeding etc... it's just as wonderful as it was first time round.

Starting to feel a little more human too and not crying at the drop of a hat any more! Also it helps that the visitors (bloody in laws) seem to have left me alone for a while too! Yeah!!! That is probably why i'm not in a mood and feeling like i'm permanently bagdered...

Hope you're all ok those who haven't popped and those who just have.

Coriander73 · 26/09/2006 18:51

Congrats to you too Myrtle!! There can't be many left now....

OP posts:
compo · 26/09/2006 19:07

congrats to Myrtyle and Flumpy Hugs to everyone still waiting... can't wait to hear your announcements

Marls001 · 26/09/2006 22:13

Claire, Liquid & Manda ? thanks so much for your support. Truly thought I was in the clear this time around, until last Saturday!

Manda, I wish you weren?t feeling low as well. Baby blues is supposed to go away in 2 weeks, if that?s any consolation. MIL says in her day any kind of ?blues? after baby weren?t considered normal, which I think would?ve been horrific.

Warm congratulations to Myrtle & Flumpy!!

Pol, glad you?re feeling better

clairemow · 27/09/2006 09:26

Marls, being a mum must have been awful when the blues weren't considered 'normal'. What a lot of pressure. Thank goodness there is publicity about pnd now, and it's accepted that it is an illness, not a "weakness". Hope you are feeling better today. I remember you said you were giving yourself til November - if you're still feeling low in a couple of weeks, why not see someone earlier, esp if it will help your recovery to be quicker? Take care.

We had a disrupted evening last night - up and down the stairs all evening as F kept deciding that actually he wasn't full after all, despite falling asleep on me after a few sucks! Still, it meant he was full up eventually, so only woke up once in the night. Not sure which I prefer - once in the night, or a quiet evening!!!

puppy · 27/09/2006 10:19

Congratulations to those with new editions to their families . Hope those with lo already and the lo are doing really well.

Well I am nervous now, going in at 5pm to be induced with prostin gel. I hope I get my epidural in time and that the gel works on first attempt lol.

Thanks for nasal spray suggestion liquid, I woke up the next day and my ears were somewhat better, Will keep it mind for any future congestion though.

If I am not on before I go in later, take care and good luck to those with twinges
