Just a quickie as I have a few things to sort out - teenagers sigh!

Been to see consultant this am and they tried a sweep , cervix too posterior to be done so booked in for induction a week today really cheesed off now!
so does anybody know with the cervix being posterior does that mean that I won't go into spontaneous labour any time soon?

I'm 40+3

tassis · 20/09/2006 14:24

sorry puppy can't answer your qu, but hope things kick off soon for you...

puppy · 20/09/2006 14:24

Sorry tassis will read yours and others post this evening

Marls001 · 20/09/2006 14:28

Congratulations to all who've now popped!!
Must go relieve MIL ... math class incorrect: 1 child + 1 child = >two ...

Coriander73 · 20/09/2006 14:48

Hi again ladies

Have a moment to spare gven that Jack has detached himself finally from my aching boob (!)..I've been so wanting to get on MN to speak to you since his arrival on Saturday & thought I would last night but the little one had other plans...probably sounds familiar to you all!! Fed every hour & half last night....so forgive any typos!!!

As you know had show last Friday pm followed by my waters breaking that evening. Contractions were coming every 6-10 mins & were mild. Spoke to the hospital who wanted me in as waters had broken & has have the previous scar needed monitoring etc etc. So there I am thinking well things are going to happen soon when but when I was examined ZERO dilation..how depressed was I?!! So in we plod, contractions stronger etc but then they petered out & they lost their momentum. As waters had gone they wouldn't let me home & because of the scar I had to have a canula & be strapped up the whoe time - which was never explained to me - thought I'd able to be mobile etc. Anyhow, after 12 hours of wishing & wanting progress there was still ZERO dilation & the baby had passed a meconium poo which come out through me (that was wierd!)..so it was slight panic, baby was destressed so an emergency section was called for.

Right decision with hindsight as Jack had the cord tightly wrapped around his neck plus his arm up on his head...plus he was large ish so the MWs all agreed that even if we'd got to 10 cm the birth would have been stressful & 99% chance of it ending in a section anyhow.

So that's the birth bit....we're now home & I'm totally in love with him MIL thinks it's hysterical that after wishing & wanting for another girl that I've suddenly become so besotted with my little boy Ihave to say that it made a momumental difference being awake for this section compared to being under ga with dd. Very emotional the whole thing & now my milk is well & truely in..there are more tears..both happy & sad as my Grandpa died yesterday too. Whilst it was expected at some point it nevertheless feels strange, new life in, old life passed on .....

I'm sure most of you haven't even got this far as this post seems why too long! Still, congratulations to:

Mabel, Homemama, Norms (GREAT name!), Calvemjoe,Ezridaz

Mrytle, sounds as though lo is on the way

To everyone else still waiting...fingers crossed & thinking of you all..

tassis · 20/09/2006 14:59

Cori - sounds like your labour was a bit frustrating, but good that you got ds out safely! Great that the c/s was more positive than last time. Sounds like you're well loved up! So sorry to hear about your grandpa. Hope you're ok and have a chance to grieve and be looked after.

liquidclocks · 20/09/2006 16:04

Tassis and Cori - what great stories - both a bit frightening in their own ways, I'm glad you're all ok. Cori, very sorry to hear your grandpa passed away, did he find out he had a great grandson? I hope you have the chance to deal with that amongst everything else going on.

Nothing more happening here - thankfully backache has eased and TENS has been unplugged. I haven't actually told you all becuase I thought it was really trivial and hopefully it is, but I've been itching like mad in the mornings and at night (none in afternoon though - strange!) and been feeling quite queasy which I thought was a bug. However when I saw m/w yesterday she thought she'd do a liver function test 'just to be sure' - I get results tomorrow. Anyway the upshot is that I'm sat here now, I know I'm fine, but just the fact she's done a test and I have to wait to be told that yes I'm right and I'm fine is really bugging me!

I wish DH could get home so I can go to bed...

peachygirl · 20/09/2006 16:10

Quick Hijack (no pun intended) To say a big congratulations to Cori!!!!

calvemjoe · 20/09/2006 16:19

Just a quickie, Baby Elizabeth was born by emergency section at 12.39 monday lunchtime. We got home an hour ago. Gory details to follow x

compo · 20/09/2006 18:42

congrats calvemjoe
LC - hope you're okay. I'm not surprised you're worried though. Fingers crossed everything is fine and dh is home so you can get some rest.

homemama · 20/09/2006 20:42

Congratulations to all the new arrivals!

Tassis and Cori, great birth stories. Tassis, last time I went from 0-10cm in 1.5hours and they didn't believe I wanted to push until they relentedand checked. I wish they wouldn't assume it to be 1cm per hour. Cori, sorry to hear about your sad news. My mum's uncle passed away the night my brother was born and she's always said how the new baby helped the family through such a sad time.

Hope you're recovering well, Calvemjoe. Let us know the details soon.
Norms, great about your weight! I am much more wobbly this time. Not a lot heavier but very flabby whereas after DS, my tummy pretty much returned to the way it was quite soon. Glad you're feeling well, sorry the sickness returned for one last stab at you. I too was very sick in the couple of days before Lizzie was born. TBH, it's one of the main reasons that we've decided to stop at two.

Puppy, I was just thinking about the 'fall by fall thread' too! I think it was quite a lucky thread as we had quite a few graduates from it. I think Norms and I got our BFP on the same day!

Can I also just add that Lizzie had a kidney scan this morning. You may remember all the (potential) problems that showed up at the 20wk scan. She has been given the all clear as everything is functioning normally, it's just that her connecting tube is slightly narrower on one side. Such relief and I'm so in love with her. Had both my children (how weird does that sound?) sitting on my knee this afternoon and I just felt so lucky and so proud.

Good luck to those still waiting. Hope to hear of safe arrivals soon.

redz · 20/09/2006 21:30

Congratulatons Tassis sorry to hear about your grandfather but Im sure he's looking down on you and all the family

Puppy I had a sweep on tuesday I am 40+2 and they too told me my cervix was posterior however she did say labour could start at anytime and that even though my sweep was'nt successful it could still help move things on. I am 2/5 engaged mw said that was a good sign. I have an appointment on tuesday and then will be given my induction date probably the following day or so (my hosp give you 10days to go over)
I really hope it happens for both of us naturally. However I have not had any BH or any tightenings etc etc so I just dont know.
Im trying to keep positive though, will keep my fingers crossed for you

Marls001 · 20/09/2006 22:30

Cori - at cord. Am SO glad everything worked out all right! And you didn't even have to go through labor. My sister was upset at having to have an emergency C with her second as she'd also been trying for a VBAC. So I understand ... but what a relief to have him out & well. And smiting you.

Myrtle1 · 21/09/2006 01:00

Hi,

Myrtles husband here. She had a baby boy, 7lb at 7:30pm 20/09. Ended up getting to the hospital a bit late so it was all a bit of a rush but I'll let her tell you all the details.

Cheers

Flumpybumpy · 21/09/2006 08:10

Congratulations to all those that have 'popped' So happy that you all have your LO's safe and sound.

Puppy & redz we are all in the same boat. I saw consultant again (I am 40 + 4) yesterday as I have been told different things by different consultants (haven't seen the same consultant or midwife twice throughout whole pregnany, thinking of writing a complaint letter, but that's another story) and each one is telling me something different. So, I went in to the appointment armed and ready to get some definite answers.

Really want a VBAC delivery but still no sign of it happening naturally. Asked about induction (has failed sweep on Friday) Turns out there is no way MW could have done a sweep on Friday as my cervix is most def. closed and to do a sweep they have to be able to get inside and seperate membrabes from cervix so cervix needs to be open. . Was v painful and all for nothing!

Told that would not induce using Prostin as 1 in 50 chance of scar rupture prefer to try sweep and membrane rupture as 1 in 200 chance of scar rupture but cervix has to be open enough to reach. I agreed on this and asked for induction date, cons then said he would consider a C/S the lowest risk of the lot and agreed to an induction / CS date of next Weds 27.09. I will be induced if they feel it will work, if not then straight to CS. Got a bit upset and started crying, can't believe I have to wait another week.

DH has been brilliant and has reassured me that LO is an amazing gift and is going to be out on way or the other, what matters is that we are both safe and well and if that means a CS then so be it.

Still can't help feeling disappointed, hopefully things will happen naturally before then and I will get my VBAC.

Sorry for the long post.

clairemow · 21/09/2006 09:03

Hi all,

Cori, sounds like the section was definitely the right way to go - thank goodness! So sorry to hear about your grandad .

Congrats Calvemjoe too - looking forward to hearing more...

Homemama, that's great news about Lizzie's scan. Hurrah!!

Goodness Myrtle's hubby, sounds like you've had an exciting time! - and congratulations - tell us more when you have a moment! What is DS' name?

Flumpy, your DH sounds lovely - he is right, your little miracle will arrive one way or another. Fingers crossed that it all happens by itself in the next week..

liquidclocks · 21/09/2006 09:37

Congratulations Myrtle and hubby! that's great news - look forward to details!

Flumpy - for you that you may not get your VBAC but you will have your LO for definite next wednesday! Hope things go naturally for you in the meantime though - keep us posted.

Puppy & redz - my fingers and toes are still crossed for you too. Thinking about it statistically with each day that passes the probability of today being 'the day' increases!

Homemama - good news about Lizzie, you must be so relieved, bet she's just perfect anyway!

I'm 39 weeks today - yay! Going to ring for results later on today, I still know they'll be fine but my bump itching like mad this morning is not helping! I have this mad urge at the moment not to let DH out of my sight and be cuddled constantly (I'm usually so independant!) - I want to have the baby asap so he can start his paternity leave and I can spend some time with him - how gooey am I!

clairemow · 21/09/2006 09:46

Ah Liquid! All those hormones! Good luck with the results today. xx

liquidclocks · 21/09/2006 11:14

Thanks Clairemow, I'm sure they'll be fine, it's like when you have an exam in something you know you're god at but get nervous about the results anyway! crazy

Have you been using the same routine you and I used with DS1s? DH's latest worry is that it won't work if I BF but I was pretty sure that you BF and it was ok - am I right? Also did you follow all the advice about when to express and introduce EBM feeds from bottles etc? Hope it's ok to ask, don't think I'm doing anything against the rules! (If you think I am you could always post reply on yahoo group)

ta!

liquidclocks · 21/09/2006 11:15

god at = good at! (really not that arrogant! )

clairemow · 21/09/2006 11:31

Hi Liquid,

I've got the same routine in the back of my mind, and Fraser's fitting it quite well at the mo - but it's not because I'm particularly forcing the issue. The first couple of weeks I just woke him every 3 hours to feed (from start of feed to start of feed), and it went fine. Now he's tending to be more alert, and nap about 1 1/2 hours after he wakes up, so is awake a bit after feeding. I am less stressed about following things to the letter this time though, and maybe that's why it seems to be going better.

Today, for eg he woke up at 6.50, I fed him about 7-8, then he slept again from about 8.30 - 9.50, fed him again on and off from about 10ish, and he's just gone down again for another nap. I guess he'll sleep about 1 1/2 - 2 hours before he's hungry again. Yesterday was a bit different, he woke up and fed about 7.30, then napped from about 9.15 - 11 (I woke him up!), fed again and then napped again about 12.30 - 2.30, fed again and then napped about 3.30 - 5 when I woke him up, gave him a little feed, and tried to keep him awake until bath and bedtime! It all works out in the end, and essentially he's feeding on demand, but his demands seem to be quite structured!

I don't know if it's true of all bf babies, but both mine tend to feed with great big gulps for the first 10 mins or so, then have a break, feed again a little while later, and so on for about an hour at a time. Don't know if this is different for bottle fed ones though!

I had no probs following it with bf DS1, although sometimes it took him a bit longer to "progress" onto the next 'step' as ff babies (as I understand it) tend to be fuller longer than bf ones.

Sorry everyone else for this digression!

clairemow · 21/09/2006 11:36

Sorry, re. expressing and giving the EBM, I didn't ever follow advice on when and how much to express - but I had a really plentiful supply (and thankfully seem to again - must have been a cow in a former life...). I am doing the same this time - expressing in the evening, about 3-4 oz at the moment and DH is doing the late feed with a bottle, and in the morning, while F feeds on the other side (co-ordination or what?!) - so that I've got some in the freezer. It does seem to help supply, I think because I am always producing just a bit more than he is drinking, so when he demands more in a growth spurt, I've got it there. It is a bit of a faff, but worth it I think so that I can if necessary leave him with someone else to feed.

liquidclocks · 21/09/2006 11:37

Thanks for that Clairemow - ver reassuring, I'll tell DH. DS1 always took a bit longer than 'predicted' to prgress onto the next step too, I think it's down to using your own judgement about when they're ready to a certain extent. He still has more than the 'recommended' sleep but he's grumpy ifhe has less so it suits us (definitely me anyway!).

Sorry ladies - back to pg talk now!

liquidclocks · 21/09/2006 11:40

Claire - don't let any of the BF mafia see that reference you made to a cow there!!!
