sorry doc said stress and anxiety never* affects baby - it's well insulated! I hope she Is right.

fancyacupoftea · 30/06/2014 18:48

Oh no Keepon, that's crap that you can't get your answers. How far away is 15 weeks?

KeepOnPloddingOn · 30/06/2014 18:50

Sorry I am 12+4

KeepOnPloddingOn · 30/06/2014 18:50

As for answers - well we wouldn't get them until I was more 16 weekS!

blizy · 30/06/2014 19:13

Ah keep that's crap. But it is only 3 1/2 weeks to wait, we will be here every step of the way.

RPopz · 30/06/2014 19:14

Sorry to hear that Keep, what a nerve racking time for you Sad I'm not sure but I thought the Harmony test does give a definite answer either way?

Saraswati · 30/06/2014 19:18

keepon so sorry you couldn't have your cvs today! how upsetting for you. I can totally understand that although you won't terminate, you want answers. I hope you can get it arranged soon, I supposed the only positive is that your DH feels the same now about keeping the baby.

I hope you are ok madem?

Just saw my hairdresser and told her, she said I look really pregnant, I really wanted to hide it from work until 20 weeks but I guess there's no chance. I think I will tell after 16 week mw appointment, I will have only had my new contract for 6 weeks by then, whoops! Also got my friend coming over who is leaving her husband after 6 months of marriage, I'm friends with him too. I'm scared I'm going to cry/not know what to say?! :s

KeepOnPloddingOn · 30/06/2014 19:24

Who's had a harmony? Going to phone nearest clinic to enquire tomorrow. I am so upset about all this. I feel like by the time I have answers (16 weeks/ 17 week) that is nearly half my pregnancy over. I feel this pregnancy has been ruined :(

Loobyloo893 · 30/06/2014 19:26

Oh keepon, how frustrating! I never knew there was a chance it couldn't be done.
Rpopz, harmony is99% accurate so as near as you can get without having an invasive procedure.

ilovelamp78 · 30/06/2014 19:36

Oh how pants keepon. I'm sending you a big hug every day if that helps even just a tiny bit x

I'm sure I remember reading somewhere that harmony is 99% accurate for downs ? But the results take 2 weeks? Am I going doolally and imagining it??

MademoiselleG · 30/06/2014 19:52

Hi all, not much news from us here either. Baby didn't get into the right position so couldn't do the important measurements. The consultant who scanned us did say it was very early to pick this up and would normally only ever have been picked up at the 20 week scan. He specialises in that type of 'anomaly' and although the other two couldn't see what he can, he is confident that his diagnosis is correct.

We now have to go back in 2 weeks, but they still don't think they'll be able to see much, so it might be that we actually have to wait until 20 weeks to be 100% sure. They offered us a TFMR on the strong suspicion they have...so we are not hopeful. We declined - whatever we do, now that we have gone down the testing line, we would want to be sure.

And so the wait continues...

Minibagel · 30/06/2014 20:01

I thought harmony gave a yes/no answer for trisomy complications, so not just downs. What other things does amnio test for that they cant detect at 20w scan? I remember feeling much more at ease after 20w scan because whatever risk of ds you got, there are physical signs at that gestation such as cleft, heart problems, femur length etc which can flag it up once and for all. So if 20w scan is good, there is v good chance your baby is healthy, but even that can't pick up all genetic issues. They can never be 100% sure especially for rare conditions (I know ds is one of the more detected ones though)

RPopz · 30/06/2014 20:02

Frustrating day for you too then Madem Sad Hugs x Thanks

Minibagel · 30/06/2014 20:14

How disappointing for you as well madem especially after you have worked yourself up for the appointment.

KeepOnPloddingOn · 30/06/2014 20:15

Hugs to you madem. You are so strong x
There is hope. Always.

Mini- the doc told me results are less accurate sorry. Downs is - but for Edwards and Patue syndrome the accuracy is less. Also am amnio looks at other chromosomal problems- such as a less common type of downs and also other less common problems - you have to wait 10 days for those results though. Hope this makes sense ...

Minibagel · 30/06/2014 20:17

keep just re-read my previous comment and it is very rambly, I'm sorry. I guess what it shows is how little I know. I hope you didn't think it was insensitive for me to imply you could wait til 20w, I don't think you should btw. What i was trying (badly) to say was the 20w scan will put your mind at ease further not just about downs but about other potential issues too.

Thanks for the thorough explanation! You explain it better than the site I visited :) tbh at this stage I would want definitive answers - not just a positive for one of the 3. I would need to know. I have waited enough. Thanks so much for your help.

Loobyloo893 · 30/06/2014 20:27

Madem, so sorry you're still having to wait for answers.
Madrigals, I'm having the nifty test this Friday, but it is basically the same as the harmony.

MademoiselleG · 30/06/2014 20:44

Thank you all. Bedtime I think (ideally it would be gin o'clock but hey...)

KeepOnPloddingOn · 30/06/2014 20:47

Night madem. Hope you sleep well.

KeepOnPloddingOn · 30/06/2014 20:49

Mini! Not at all. My comment made no sense to you sorry! I totally know what you mean. Thanks for your kinda words. Everyone has been so lovely. So happy to have this place. X

sunshineandbiscuits · 30/06/2014 21:41

Thanks for everyone's good wishes today, it means a lots Smile. keep and mademoiselle, I'm sorry that you didn't get any clear answers today. You really don't need that kind of frustration on top of all the worry. I hope it goes better next time. Thanks

I just re-read my earlier post and realised that I said the NT measurement was 15mm! In case anyone didn't notice (on the grounds that I was remarkably unconcerned), I actually meant 1.5mm. Silly me.

Right, off to gaze at scan pictures some more before bed.

Swifey · 01/07/2014 07:17

KeepOnPloddingOn I hope I haven't misunderstood, or missed one of your posts, but maybe you should ring about the nifty test? I don't know what the link is, but if you google nifty (nipt) test in Cardiff, London or Manchester it should come up. It is between £30" and £400 and is meant to give a definitive answer for 3 things, including DS, and 2 other syndromes. It is pretty much risk free, and is a scan and then a blood test, they then take the baby's DNA out of yours and analyse it.

Thinking about you xx
