Bf was pretty easy here. Dd was born, I went into surgery for an hour to have stitches and then as soon as I woke up from the Gen Anaesthetic, she was plopped upon my boob and started suckling. Milk came in at day 3 and she fed for 15-20 minutes exactly every 3 hours. I managed to feed to about 9 months and by about 3 months it was super easy as she was down to about 5-10 minute feeds and by 5 months she would do 5 hour breaks over night. I almost had an oversupply problem than undersupply and I could of won a wet T-shirt competition at her first cries in the first few weeks. Literally it would spray everywhere! Ha!

Not wishing to sound smug, but I'm just trying to reassure any 1st timers, that not everyone finds it horrendously difficult and you may well find that your body just knows what to do and the baby also just gets it, so don't overly worry until there is an actual problem. I didn't do much bf reading before hand (I did do NCT though and found it useful) but knew that if dd didn't take to it, I could always ff her. There should be no guilt in feeding a baby, so don't let it ruin those first weeks (and pregnancy) with worry.

Hi girls, I haven't posted much on the thread and have still to add my stats to the spreadsheet, but I am 10 + 3, with my 2nd, am 36 and due 23rd Jan. Anyway I have decided to have the Nifty test on London for Downs, it's expensive but something both dh and I wanted to do. Anyway that's booked for 13th July, and today I just received my scan letter from my nhs hospital, so rang up to confirm and ask that the with the scan was the blood test only and they have now informed me that they won't even be giving me the basic scan now because I am having the test in London. Us that correct?? It's Wiltshire by the way if that makes any difference. I feel like they have just dropped me off the nhs because I am paying for extra testing!! Please help I feel really upset about it. Thanks in advance. Xx

Minibagel · 30/06/2014 12:12

I have never heard of nhs scans being cancelled because of private scans swifey that doesn't seem right at all.

Very good point about success stories half I think this is what is promoted by nct, nhs etc with very little time to cover problems so that it doesn't put women off trying. I agree you need to hear that it really can be like that for some women in real life, not just in theoretical case studies. I really hope I have an experience like yours this time. But I'll also know more about where to seek help if I don't which will mean I won't feel as lost and guilty as I did with ds1. I just want it to be like in the nhs handout with peaceful happy baby and me!

dec I don't think it is selfish at all to ff without bf. I believe there are lots of advantages, having ff for almost a year. And, like bf, it gets a lot easier as the months go by. DS1 has 3 feeds a day now, none at night and only 2 are formula, 1 is cows milk, and his bottles haven't needed to be sterilised since he was about 7 months and eating all sorts of non sterile foods.

Loobyloo893 · 30/06/2014 12:12

Swifey, you are definitely still entitled to an nhs scan and screening. I asked my mw this as we are having nifty done and she said we'd still get all the nhs stuff as well. We hadn't actually booked the nifty test at that point as hadn't completely decided on it. She said we could inform them of results if we wanted to or keep it to ourselves. Definitely phone again and get an appointment.

Thanks for the replies, I am trying to get hold of my midwife at the birthing centre at the mo to clarify but I can't get through. Madrigals did you have a 12 week scan at an nhs hospital, or just the harmony one, and then a 20 week scan appointment letter?

lindamagoo · 30/06/2014 12:26

Fab news about the scan sunshine Smile

Halfdone I couldn't agree more, my SIL found bf a breeze, she had no problems whatsoever and I know that just because I had problems before doesn't mean I will this time so I will try, I just won't get as upset if I can't do it Smile

Good to hear all about people's bf experiences. This is my first time and I honestly haven't given it that much thought, except that I'd like to bf, but not put too much pressure on myself. Think I'd do a bit more research.

Great news about you scan sunshine. Good luck to others out there with scans today.

My sickness has finally faded, but unfortunately I fainted at work on Friday, knocked my head on the way down and gave myself a black eye :(

11+4

cheshirem2b · 30/06/2014 15:01

miss hope you are ok and the fainting was a one off! Look after yourself!

I told a custody Sgt at the station yesterday when I was at work and she has said she is going to make sure any clients "referred" to me are low risk and will keep extra checks on me in custody. She also said that as soon as I can no longer run from danger (not that that happens often) I can no longer go to the police station! Come on bump... grow! Wink

missdonsol · 30/06/2014 15:19

thanks cheshire I hope it was a one off, but I'm in an office all alone, so anytime I feel light headed I'm just going to lay myself down on the floor just in case. It's gonna look very odd if someone comes to see me in my office and finds me flat on the floor! Or worse if it happens in the middle of a meeting in the board room Blush

Good that someone is organising things for you at the station. Here's hoping that bump grows nice and big soon!

bedsidemanor · 30/06/2014 15:37

Back from the hospital from my 12 week scan and everything was looking good. Feel so relieved!

The doctor asked us if we had a usb and then plugged it into the monitor and so recorded the images like that. Very high-tech! In our clearest photo, the baby looks like it has a big white beard - very strange Grin!

My colleague told me an interesting theory that the liveliness of your baby at the 12 week scan is a good prediction of how calm they will be once they're born (probably total rubbish but anyway...).

Minibagel · 30/06/2014 15:41

Great news bedside

Ooh a usb that is hitech. Nhs or private?

cheshirem2b · 30/06/2014 15:54

great news bedsidemanor! more happy scans!
If your friends theory is correct though our baby is a little monster - s/he was doing back flips on the scan! great!

Camsie30 · 30/06/2014 16:04

I am really hoping that the maternity jeans I've ordered fit, I am seriously busting out of my trousers today!! Not planning to tell work until I'm 15 weeks so need to keep bumpalina hidden!!!!
Happy to hear lovely scan news xx

Haha Bedside I hope that's not true!! Hmm Minipopz wouldn't keep still for a second at the scan Grin x

Starbright24 · 30/06/2014 17:45

Good luck keepon and made today.

Starbright24 · 30/06/2014 17:46

Soz for repost...not sure how that happened

halfdoneharris · 30/06/2014 17:47

I hope the activity theory is true - this baby was pretty chilled out on th scan, gave a few waves and sucked its thumb - and wasn't in a hurry to move even after I had to do a few wiggles to get the bean in the right position. His/her sister is a bit of a crazy child so it will make a nice change for a calm one (perhaps takes after Dh this time?)

Starbright24 · 30/06/2014 18:01

Fab news on the scans sunshine and bedside :)
Just put on some trousers I only bought a month ago cos I needed some room to breathe and they're tight already (wail) oh no! I think this is probably the first of many times I discover this problem :)

Minibagel · 30/06/2014 18:10

star I also had this problem the other day. Why thighs, why?!

fancyacupoftea · 30/06/2014 18:41

Told a colleague today who was with another colleague who I hadn't told but apparently someone else had because when I said it and colleague 1 said "Really?" colleague 2 said to colleague 1 "Can you not tell?!". No hiding this belly then it would seem. 13+2.

KeepOnPloddingOn · 30/06/2014 18:46

Hi all.
Unfortunately cvs could not be done as placenta is too far back (this is common at my gestation) she tried on and off for 30 mins. Downed 2 litres of water too. No difference. I was warned this happens 50% of the time. Still, I am so frustrated and I am considering a harmony test. Harmony test only gives a high or low risk though, right? So I am struggling to see what the point in doing it now is!

I have the option (if spaces) to travel to another hospital next week and have another go at cvs -
As my consultant happens to be away next week (argh!) but she has warned me it is likely this may happen again as placenta won't be much bigger or in a easier position. :(

So basically I have to wait until 15 weeks for amnio which is safer (by a 0.5 % if that) but also is easier to do. So no chance of this happening again.

Consultant advises if I so not want a termination I am aswell waiting for amnio as it is safer - but literally by a half percent if that! I explained I do not want a termination but want to know ASAP as worries about the stress of not knowing affecting my baby. Doc assured me stress rarely affects baby.

I am so frustrated. Even of we so harmony it means we would have to have amnio anyway to check for the other abnormalities (as after all this I would want to bloody be sure!) we live in a fairly big town- bit rhe nearest hosp to do a harmony is 2 hours away.

The only good thing was our baby looked ok on scan and was jumping about the whole time- also dh said he is now insure of he could ever go through with a termination because of downs. This makes me happy as I feel we are more on same page now. Doc was really nice and said they will support me all the way if we wish to keep our baby.

Sorry for essay. madem I am thinking of you - let us know how you are xx
