So my mum is here. Brought huge pile of knitted baby items she's made, which is so sweet. Less lovely are the comments about her first months with me, inlcuding "I hated you"! Hmm Thanks Mum.

Apparently I was 17 days late, not just a long labour (I knew it was 25 hours, that's been mentioned plenty over the years) but it kept slowing down. I wouldn't feed, and when I did I was sick. I cried all the time etc etc

Ah babies, such a magical experience..

ohthegoats · 19/06/2014 12:01

Does anyone else actually still care about their job?

I love my job (allegedly).. but I have today out of class to do paperwork, and I'm up to my neck in the stuff at the moment... instead of actually doing it, I'm just googling things to do with babies and pregnancy. I think it's been going downhill for a week or so, but today it's time to acknowledge that I've lost it totally. Just don't care anymore.

binkybunny · 19/06/2014 12:01

sazzle Oh no, I clicked the link... my credit card is going to get a bashing at lunch time. Such gorgeous dresses!

So I found out today my contract actually finishes a week later than I thought and when I made noises about finishing at the end of August it was met with frosty glares and silence. I now think maybe it would just be easier to work until the end of my contract, but that means I have 11 weeks to go, not 9 Sad

I slept in this morning and I keep getting told the tiredness gets worse from now on, so goodness knows how I'll make it work by then.

Kirstipops

the 'deer' fabrics are from an American company called Birch Organics and are a 'knit' range - i.e. a little stretchy which is what you want for baby clothes (when they are very little). I bought the grey one with deers on from this shop in London www.raystitch.co.uk/fabric/organic-cotton-plains/organic-prints/elk-grove-knits.html and you can see they do the 'Chevron' design too. No doubt if you google Birch Elk Grove knits (UK) you may find them cheaper elsewhere - I am going to buy some more but haven't done a lot of searching yet. I've been buying small bits and getting two pairs of baby leggings out of them so it is actually cheaper than buying from a shop (that's what I tell myself anyway).

The other place which has a lot of really sweet knit fabrics is the Village Haberdashery which my DH is driving me to this weekend! I think the Etsy seller had some little leggings in this fabric which is very unisex
www.thevillagehaberdashery.co.uk/sewing-patchwork/fabric/woodland-knits-a-is-for-apple

The mini mushrooms one is by a company called Monaluna and is part of the 'fox hollow' collection.

Finally this is a really good resource on knits fabrics: www.tillyandthebuttons.com/2014/02/where-to-buy-knit-fabric.html

and if you don't mind buying from the US then spoonflower is awesome

and I have loads of free patterns for newborn leggings/ baby tops etc bookmarked so if you want them I can PM them.

mrsb87 · 19/06/2014 12:37

Love love love those fatpony! Would you pm me patterns please?

fedupofrainydays · 19/06/2014 12:38

Totally don't care about my job. Got 27 days left - 30 if I don't take another weeks leave. (Work 3 days a week). Very much over it at the moment.

So struggling with not being able to drink on holiday. Just keep really fancying ice cold beers and wine. Strawberry mocktails just aren't doing it for me!

fatpony · 19/06/2014 12:41

Sure mrsb87 - they are on my ipad so will dig them out later

fedupofrainydays · 19/06/2014 12:43

Ps. I too change at Oxford circus - bakerloo for Victoria. Agree tis a nightmare!!! I go early on the morn so it's ok then but way home is terrible. Then I get on a non air com packed train out of Waterloo to finish it off. Hideous.

binkybunny · 19/06/2014 13:14

Goats not one bit especially as I'm not coming back! 9 or 11 weeks to go!!!

mum2kiss · 19/06/2014 13:29

Couldn't give a flying far about work...

mum2kiss · 19/06/2014 13:29

Fart even!

gunwalloe · 19/06/2014 13:30

goats that's a bit freaky that you knew the seller

I really should make some clothes and bibs I have all the good intentions but never seem to find the time. Those fabrics are gorgeous fatpony.

Im trying to decide if green discharge is a medical emergency ( sorry TMI) ive had a few little bits but today had a massive blob phoned the midwife and got answer machine so phoned the doctors surgery who said I can be seen if its a medical emergency how do you decide what is and isn't a emergency? ive probably got a UTI.

claptomania · 19/06/2014 13:30

I was just at Oxf Circus, having a meeting. Central line is stuffy and horrible!

YellowWellies · 19/06/2014 14:02

You lot are naughty tempting me with such links!

puppythedog · 19/06/2014 14:03

Gun have you got any of it as a sample? I'd probably take the appointment if it was me.

gunwalloe · 19/06/2014 14:19

Ive binned the pad that it was on puppy. I phoned back and have managed to get in tomorrow they had a cancelation I hate the way they make you feel bad for wanting to see a doc. I had leukocytes in my wee two weeks ago and wasn't given any treatment I suspect the infections been getting steadily worse since then.

binkybunny · 19/06/2014 14:30

gun I had weird discharge stuff at about 11 weeks. I waited all day for someone to call me back then they told me I could go in 5 days later for a scan if I thought I needed it. I explained I didnt know if I needed and she told me they couldnt say one way or another until they saw me. Bit of a catch 22 then. It didnt happen again so I never went in but made me nervous til my 12 week scan!

Me23 · 19/06/2014 14:36

gun I would go to the gp and have a urine sample and a vaginal swab sent off to the lab. Do you not have a number for the main maternity unit? We have a 24hr number that will get you straight through to a midwife for advice.

Me23 · 19/06/2014 14:41

Oh and leucocytes don't necessarily indicate an infection most of the time the sample have been contaminated with vaginal discharge. However in your case it may be different as you have green discharge did you not get the results if the msu from 2 weeks ago? I always tell people to call up after 2 days for results as we do so many tests it can take a while to call people if they come back with an infection.

ohthegoats · 19/06/2014 14:49

Is that the same with blood test results? I've had loads of blood tests since I've been pregnant, and never had a single result given to me - I just assume that when I go to appointments, if there was an issue, I'd be told. Yes? No follow up from the GTT I did last week, do I assume I'm alright? Haven't been given a number to call.

Me23 · 19/06/2014 15:17

Yes no news is good news, however I would still ask for the results at your next appt just in case something was missed (doubtful, but we are only human after all)

puppythedog · 19/06/2014 15:27

My knowledge and expertise is not Midwifery but I always counsil people to check for themselves by following up on tests. This is a good way to make sure they are passed in front of a professional (I.e. you can ask the reception which Dr or Nurse or Midwife reviewed the results an dif they haven't been insist they are). It's also reassuring for you.

With regards to being made to feel bad for wanting an appointment don't. It is not your worry how we manage our diaries. If we (health professionals) say we don't have an appointment we don't, if we say we have an appointment we have an appointment.
My way of thinking is "is it an emergency?"

me: "depends, do you have another appointment i can use today or tomorrow?"
rec "No" then it is an emergency becuase it cannot wait longer.
Rec "yes a cancellation at x time" then take the appointment, if the app is at an inconvenient time and you're umming and arring about it you have to question the emergency nature of it becuase if you can't find the time no one else should have to.

I don't ever feel guilty for having things checked since I left two different things and on both occassions ended up with a serious infection one of which hospitalised me. I should know better and now do.

Good luck with it GUn. all of the above said it'll hopefully turn out to be baby sneeze (not a medically viable explanantion) or something not to worry about.

Littlebear88 · 19/06/2014 16:20

Agree with you puppy

Welcome littlebear my hospital is the same! Though we have ac it's just never on. No wonder I always feel awful ad have headaches at work. I feel so sorry for the women in labour in summer.
