Ldt I had my Dd in hospital. Opted for delivery suite as I was worried I'd want intervention and not get it! My entire birth was with a midwife and trainee. Didn't see a single doctor or consultant so I guess it turned out to be midwife led anyway lol! This time I will go for the midwife led unit if it's not too busy just for the comfort aspect!

Me23 · 18/06/2014 18:57

Sept and oct are notoriously busy on labour ward lots if Xmas shenanigans! We are not allowed to take annual leave during sept and oct as they need they staff. I did apologies to my colleagues for adding they already overburdened October workload!

Consultant led birth or labour ward just means there will be dr And theatres nearby if they are needed the care and birth will be assisted by midwives. If any problems they dr will come in to review.

I'd planned a homebirth with my 2nd but I had prolonged rupture of membranes so was induced after 24 hours as Ds already showing signs of distress.

This time I would love a homebirth in theory but not with 2 kids around I wouldn't be able to concentrate. Plus my hospital has a fab birth centre looking forward to using it.

ldt87 · 18/06/2014 19:04

It was lovely, its different when you've got older ones around though, I don't want to be looking after anyone else while I'm in labour lol xx

mrsb87 · 18/06/2014 19:18

We're not normally able to take holiday in December so having a Christmas off this year is going to be a bit special!
The unit I'm going to is currently midwife led but by September it will be consultant led with all bells and whistles! I'm really pleased as if anything goes wrong at the moment it means a 4G minute drive to Shrewsbury! I don't fancy that with it being dc1!

Kirstipops · 18/06/2014 19:38

I can't wait to have Christmas off this year, I work for the police so get pretty crappy holidays too around that time, this year is going to be such a novelty!
Yep Yellow if felt myself going early I'd defo be alerting my midwife!! Again, family history is that we go a week or two late so maybe I'll be the same.

Oh my god, nightmare journey home, oxford circus at rush hour is quite scary for a pregnant woman people don't look and just push past you left right and centre. Tube was suspended so platforms dangerously full and I got squashed :-( to top it all off I was so hot I asked for a seat on another packed tube and the man looked at me like I was a freak and didn't get up (sigh)!

Grannyapple · 18/06/2014 19:49

Ah..well I've had 2 natural births previously...first labour was 12 hrs, 2nd a was 5 hrs so I'm expecting even quicker this time. Yeah I'm worried about the kids being around but in hoping things kick off when my sis is here so she can look after the kiddies...if not, I have some friends on standby.. But last time I went into MLU, they left us to it pretty much until I was ready to push...& I always find the 1st night in Hospital awful as you don't get any sleep/rest anyway...

kirsti which hospital will you be going into?SIL is a MW at Wishaw...

Kirstipops · 18/06/2014 19:56

Aw is she Grannyapple? My friend is having her baby there (had her first there too)! I'm going to be at the Princess Royal, my consultant and all my mw appointments are there too, plus easier for relatives coming to visit :)

I'm also 100% sure I'm going for nearer MLU rather than the one attached to the hospital in Dundee. Its so nice, small and quiet and all rooms have windows with lovely views whereas some in Dundee dont have a window at all. If I'm going to spend god knows how many hours in labour I at least want a view!!!

My only concern is the ambulance transfer if things go wrong. 20 mins could seem like a lifetime!

Me23 · 18/06/2014 20:07

Yes we also can't book holiday in dec will be glad to spend Xmas and new with family this year.

binkybunny · 18/06/2014 20:27

DH is usually not allowed Christmas off but they are making an exception this year, we'll have a whole 2 weeks off Grin

weeonion · 18/06/2014 20:32

hi folks. marking my place!

I am planing a homebirth and have met my homebirthteam / midwife to talk it over and do a home assessment. Smile

ohthegoats · 18/06/2014 20:46

Haha, see I'm excited about being able to take time off NOT around Christmas. The school Christmas holiday is the most depressing thing about being a teacher - who wants to take time off work at that dark and miserable time of year? Before I was a teacher I'd go back to work day after Boxing Day, already bored. The last 5 years I've been away skiing (to vast expense), just to avoid the whole lot. This year we won't be skiing, so despite not being religious, I'm going to really buy into Christmas and do it properly - tree, presents and EVERYTHING. Normally don't do a thing... bah humbug.

Desperately want to ski late Jan/early Feb, but money will be tight then, and we've already planned a 'non-school-holiday' holiday for May before I go back.

YellowWellies · 18/06/2014 20:58

Phew 27c in J's room tonight! Shock Ok i know autumn babies get whammied with colds and winter infections, and being preggers in this heat ain't exactly divine buuuuuuut as much as we'd planned a late spring baby I'm so glad I got pregnant early. I would be freaking out trying to keep a newborn cool while sleeping or worse, BF in this heat! I was roasting just with J cuddled into me at story time. Its so much easier to keep them warm than cool them down!

Grannyapple · 18/06/2014 21:01

Ah cool kirsti -she trained at the princess Royal! She retrained as a mw at 40...(was a civil servant before that...4 kids later & she changed her mind Grin). My best Nate had her 3 at the Royal, including her twins.

Ah wee onion how are you feeling about it all? I've got my next mw appt at the end of the month...the one after that, she says she'll book a double appt to discuss home birth.. Not sure DH is convinced on it tho...

binkybunny · 18/06/2014 21:14

Anyone watching OBEM? Loving the contrast of the two dads, bet the big guy cries!

The hypnobirthing looks great too. Must get my CD I want to be all calm like that.

cabster · 18/06/2014 21:31

bumpforme I feel your discomfort! had to quietly evict a lady from her seat on the tram this morning so I could faint into it. How elegant.

Then 10 minutes later swanning into a training room to introduce myself to 10 new trainees, face like a beetroot, behind like a bus, hair everywhere, sweating like a pig... First impressions eh!

ohthegoats · 18/06/2014 21:34

I can't stay awake during my hypnotherapy CD... not sure that's the point. Don't think I've got much further than 10 minutes into the 45 ever!

OBEM watcher here. The first Dad was awesome and like DH was in labour. His calm encouragement was perfect support. I'd have chucked the body builder before it got to foreplay let alone labour - sad addiction back story or no. If DH told me I could "smash the baby out easy" mid labour I'd have his balls. The twin story is Sad . I love the male anaesthetist!

ohthegoats · 18/06/2014 21:49

No OBEM here - don't think I'm ever actually going to watch it.

I'm hoping my doula and NCT will help engage my brain properly with the whole hypno stuff.

ohthegoats · 18/06/2014 21:51

What's the twin story?
