Here it is!

October 2014 - thread 8 - more growing tums, shopping & pubic topiary

Nice! Its going to be a lovely nursery. Smile Smile

I think the trick with b2b is not to be scared but to think of alternative birth plan ideas. Like pregnant said there are good options. My pal had a b2b an epidural, fell asleep for 8 hours! Then woke up to push - it needn't be brutal. The only downside with that approach is they're unlikely to change position as you're limited to being flat on your back. I'm going to opt for pethidine and maybe a mild sedative to help me relax and see if baby will turn - then epidural if not. I'm assuming another b2b!

fatpony · 04/07/2014 10:42

OMG I feel quite faint reading all of this although aren't we lucky to give birth in the 21st century - imagine doing all that with zero pain relief and the risk of infection only 150 years ago!

Georgebythesea · 04/07/2014 11:21

I know it's making me nervous especially the bit about people having 10+ years of health problems afterwards.
Need to get listening to the hypnobirthing cd and relax..he's got to c

Georgebythesea · 04/07/2014 11:21

Come out somehow! Ah!

fatpony · 04/07/2014 11:38

Wanted to ask your opinion on something - I've gained about five pounds this pregnancy so far (was a healthy weight before hand) and read in my pregnancy book this morning that the baby weighs about two pounds at 26 weeks (which I'm at).
I'm now a bit worried I am not putting on enough weight! The doc measured bump on Tuesday and said it was fine, my boobs haven't increased at all (boo) which I understand some of the weight gain can come from, and I'm eating fairly normally - like I ate pre pregancy. But should I actively be trying to put on weight? I kind of assumed the baby would just take what it needs and I do get the munchies around 4am a few nights a week. I haven't been weighed at an appointment since the booking in. Bit anxious.

FrauEnglischLehrerin · 04/07/2014 12:10

Fatpony - I've also heard that the baby takes what it needs, so if you're eating normally/healthily then I wouldn't have thought you need to worry too much. If you don't have any fluid retention, then that could reduce the weight gain (I only gained 8kg with dd, but she was 2900g (6lb 6oz) at birth, and the dr said it was probably down to me not having fluid retention).

Will go and catch up on rest of thread now.

ohthegoats · 04/07/2014 12:19

I have no idea how much weight I've put on, but I'm eating exactly the same as I did before I was pregnant. I've always been a bit erratic in my eating (hence why I don't know my weight - bit eating disorder prone), and it's exactly the same now. Some days I can not eat all day, others I'm starving the whole time.. been like that all along. I think it's really important for your mental health to try not to worry about weight and appearance too much when pregnant - easier said than done of course. I know what I'll do to lose the weight afterwards, I'm not too concerned.

binkybunny · 04/07/2014 12:36

I weighed myself last night and have only put on a few kilo's. I started worrying I hadn't put enough weight on (though I don't know how as I haven't been controlled enough in what I have eaten!) so read lots of websites and pulled out my baby book which basically says your baby will get the nutrients etc. it needs, so as long as you are gaining some weight not to worry.

fatpony if you're worried why not ask your midwife if she'll weigh you at your next appointment and ask her advice?

fatpony · 04/07/2014 12:37

Thanks, I don't worry about my weight generally but just happened to weigh myself this morning after reading that thing in the book and was a bit worried as if the baby is two pounds or a bit less then there is only an extra three pounds going spare! I think I read something about needing to pile it on in the third trimester in order to get breast milk supplies going but dunno if that is old wive's tale.

binkybunny · 04/07/2014 12:37

Mrsb lovely cabinet- I love the colour!

fedupofrainydays · 04/07/2014 12:41

I wouldn't worry. If you have eaten normally as per pre pregnancy then I wouldn't expect any more gain than you have as what would it be apart from fluid and blood if only a couple of lbs are baby. I've eaten way more than I usually would (only way I could stop ms) and have gained 1.5 stone. Sure a good few lbs are my boobs but can also see fatter thighs, arms etc.
not worried about it as my second profession is a Personal trainer and weight mgt consultant so I will kick my own arse into gear!

mum2kiss · 04/07/2014 13:18

We've still got another 3 months to go...A lot no weight could pile in in that time! Lol!

I don't remember gaining weight early on with my Dd but I think I gained a good 21lbs in the 3rd trimester. ..

YellowWellies · 04/07/2014 13:32

Fatpony your baby will be 2lb, your placenta easily 4lb at this stage and your blood volume will increase by 40% by term so that'll add probably half a stone by the end. My pal (whose sister just had the baby) hadn't put any weight on until the third trimester. Looking at her you'd think she had no breast feeding fat stores to speak of, but she's still feeding her DD 21 months later. Don't worry. Your body's doing what its needing to do xx

Georgebythesea · 04/07/2014 13:33

What hypnobirthing book do people recommend? I've got the Maggie Howell cd but not sure whether to get her book or something different? What have other people got?

YellowWellies · 04/07/2014 13:54

George I honestly don't know anyone with 10+ years of health problems. Its really rare these days. The worst I know is a pal who had a vaginal prolapse but after an op she's all healed and claims to be tighter than ever Confused . My pelvic floor ain't what is was but that's pregnancy and my internal stitches / scar tissue can be a teeny bit sore once in a blue moon (like 1-2 times a year) but honestly my bits all went back to normal. First wee / poo and shag post birth is nerve wracking but much better than you dread! You'll be fine. Its tough but its just one day (hopefully) just go in with your eyes open and be flexible about birth plan ideas in case baby is an awkward wee sod / shit at directions like my wee man. Smile

As for hypnobirthing I'd personally try a class or CD rather than a book but it depends what sort of learner you are.

JellyBeansHaveNoAgeLimit · 04/07/2014 14:16

FatPony, you put the most amount of weight in the last few months & only need about 200calories extra from then which is about 2 slices of bread!

DH told me off for joining this thread & then getting all worried about back to back labours! I think we should all just remember what yellow says and keep an open mind (smile)

Got a few braxton hicks yesterday which i didn't really get last time, didn't hurt or feel particularly uncomfortable, my bump just went all tight! Squish then started giving me major boots so maybe he/she didn't appreciate being squashed lol Grin

YellowWellies · 04/07/2014 14:22

Oooofffff I swear this wee one has just been doing extreme stretches feet right into my pelvis head and scrabbling hands at my belly button ouch! They are soooo much more active than their brother was (or I'm just able to feel much more this time?).

mrsb87 · 04/07/2014 14:37

I've been getting some braxton hicks too, seems to be when I'm walking around. Really unpleasant they are too! Midwife home visit tomorrow so I'm doing my best to have a clean and tidy up. No motivation for this though, been sat on my are watching rubbish TV all morning. I'm always paranoid about people coming over as I have 3 dogs who are very over friendly!

LondonJen · 04/07/2014 15:16

Yeah I read you only need to eat extra on top of what you usually do, the equivalent of a small sandwich and a glass of milk (to which I thought, fuck off! That's can't be all surely?!)

I think Bert might have turned around. Was breech at 20 week scan and mostly my kicks are low and to bladder or to the left side. Rarely I have felt something at the top of my bump. But today I woke up to a lot of movement at the top and am having it there now too. Guess it could be hands but is quite full on.

George I was going to buy the maggie howell book to go with listening.

I have bought two non-wired soft cup nursing bras in my current size in the sales. Hope they fit. Noticed the bottom of my current one has started to curl up where my bump is pushing against it.

Too hot to do anything today. Just laid about eating too much sugar.

Kirstipops · 04/07/2014 16:08

I think mine has definitely taken a growth spurt in the last few days, I'm so aware of a lot of movement now and much stronger kicks, wouldnt be surprised if I can see a foot print or something soon!! 28 weeks tomorrow, can't quite believe it :-O

OP posts:
tothesea27 · 04/07/2014 16:16

I'm 26 weeks today and been feeling loads of movement recently. I quite like it, it hasn't started hurting or anything yet, although I know that can happen by the end. I'm also hating this heat...it makes me so lazy and tired.

Tomorrow I'm going to a sort of nearly new sale with a friend... trying to make a list of things we need (which is basically everything) and feeling a bit overwhelmed.

ohthegoats · 04/07/2014 16:58

I've had growth spurt week/10 days too - hurts for a day, then noticeably bigger, then fine and not hurting.. then the cycle goes again.

Today I'm just knackered and pissed off with work. If you're a parent and your child comes out of school in tears, don't go straight in and yell at the teacher. Most of the time the teacher doesn't even know what the tears are about, let alone have been involved in them starting. I got shouted at three times today by parents, and had no clue what they were talking about.

Sparkle - yep, I get that loads. PE kit usually - well, if your child had the official uniform PE kit instead of a Pineapple or Bench t-shirt, no one would want to nick it.

The stuff that we've found on Facebook over the last 3 days about teachers, and specifically the Head has been horrendous. It's resulted in the police getting involved, and 4 parents being banned from the school. This is a small village school...
