pains and back to bed today... argh.

moggle · 11/06/2014 10:25

So far I have a pair of mat jeans from mothercare that fit like a glove, and DH bought me a few tops and tshirts for my birthday, from new look. Lucky enough to have a NL with a good range of mat wear in store so I could try things on. I also found a nice non-mat top in Next that should fit for a while as well.
I'm keeping a look out for a tankini, a pair of summery trousers, and some denim shorts. Trying to keep purchases down but we're going to Spain when I'm 27 weeks so will need some bits for that. Have been browsing eBay! I'm also hoping that my friend (due in a month) may be able to pass some things on.

Kantha · 11/06/2014 10:34

Marking my spot on the not so new thread.

We will be having a surprise I think. It's what we did with the first two and it was lovely to find out when they arrived. I am a bit more tempted to find out this time for practical reasons, but I think I would be sad afterwards - a bit like peeking at your Christmas presents before the big day.

I still have my old maternity clothes, but (for now) I am a size smaller than I was then, so lots of the trousers don't fit. A few friends who have just had babies have given me their stuff. As a result I am swimming in pairs of maternity jeans: some too big, some too small and very few that actually fit me right now. The only stuff I have bought has been some fitflops:

sandals

And two non maternity maxi skirts from fatface that have stretchy waistbands so seem to be working pretty well for me right now.

weeonion · 11/06/2014 10:34

i have mat trousers and jeans ahoy but i need smarter clothes for work for conferences / presenting etc as well as some cool funky dresses but i think alot of what i have seen is frumpy or else too twee. will check out jojomaman online - dont think there is a shop close by.
if you have any excellent finds - pass them on!!

ladydolly · 11/06/2014 10:48

Weeonion I have a conference 2 weeks before I'm due but luckily its in Berlin so they couldn't make go! Gap have a lot of nice dresses that would be good for word.

Moggle I got my mat tankini from asos, its super flattering and really supportive. I wear it strapless and it still manages to keep my ginormous bosom under control.

blamber · 11/06/2014 10:48

Weeonion, that's crap about your maternity leave. I'm going to leave nice and early. The commute is just too long and I can't be bothered to keep working too long. Also got loads of holidays left, so I was thinking of stopping work beginning of September. I can't wait!

Study, your wedding sounds fantastic. I'm trying to convince my oh to get married. I just want it for legal reasons as at the moment I have no entitlements or inherit nothing. He could make a will, but then I also want the same surname as my baby and his dad! Oh is not too keen atm, but I just want a simple wedding at the register office and then lunch with a few family members or something. I'll keep twisting his arm!

I have bought a few floaty sleeveless blouses from h&m and next for work. I still fit in my normal clothes though. Might go shopping with my mum when she comes to visit in a fortnight.

Greenstone · 11/06/2014 11:17

Hi everyone, been away for a long time! We were on holidays and had a really nice break. DD loved it.

Urgh I really hate maternity clothes. It is easier to dress in the warm weather or cold weather (IMO) but where I am it's just sort of cool summer the entire time. The pink maternity shorts from ASOS were great on holidays but not practical for home. I am living in 2 pairs of ASOS maternity skinny jeans and a pair of jersey harem pants from Next (normal line; I'm just folding down the waistband).

Going to a wedding at the end of July and have just ordered SEVEN - yes SEVEN- dresses from ASOS to try on. Really hope that at least one of them is OK.

Crap about work weeonion but wow it must be great to have childcare in the same building when you do return!

I have my 20-week scan on Friday. I will either be 19+5 or 19 weeks exactly or somewhere in between. I cannot believe the time has come around so quickly. I'm looking forward to it but also utterly shitting myself. Can feel the baby moving lots and lots now but I won't relax til it's over.

ToniWol · 11/06/2014 11:49

Have only bought two items of mat wear. Mothercare work trousers and Mothercare cotton trousers for going camping. Have been given my friends small stash (her DC2 was born last Dec) and have topped up with a couple of gypsy style skirts (the ones with the mega waistbands that you can wear as strapless dresses) and a maxi dress along with some long tees and vests in a size or two up. Suspect if my feet swell I'll be living in my walking sandals.

StripeyFox · 11/06/2014 12:26

I'm also finding maternity wear to be pretty dull, I'm really not sure where to go. Although I don't need anything yet, I'm getting frustrated at just feeling like I've got fat in my normal clothes - it's an annoying stage without a bump but with an extra-tubby looking middle.

Weeonion - there is a Jojo Maman just off Byres Road which has some of their maternity range - but I wasn't blown away by anything in the shop.

I'm also supposed to be speaking at a conference 10 days before my due date, and I don't think I can do it without an overnight stay. It's one I really want to do, but think it may be slightly silly at that stage...

It's so exciting to hear about everyones 20 week scans, mine feels ages away. And loving the sound of your wedding study, it sounds perfect and laid back!

PosyFossilsShoes · 11/06/2014 13:29

I'm at the extra tubby but no visible bump yet stage (and my sister says she was like that up to 6 months, which is kind of reassuring) so I went to M&S and bought a load of dresses & tops in a size up from normal and with an empire line which means they'll accommodate a bump.

It's remarkably liberating to go shopping and not care if something makes you look tubby. Grin

kate393 · 11/06/2014 13:31

I like h&m for jeans n asos stuff too. Have just bought some stuff on there but it's a mix of maternity and larger sized normal stuff where the style allows. Have however just had to nip into town at lunch for bigger bras...suddenly none fit this week.
Oooh stripey...that's close isn't it? Don't know if it's your first or not but don't believe the old 'first babies are always late' thing if it is...mine was a week early! How far from home would you be?
Had MW this morn...took some prodding around but she eventually found a nice strong heartbeat. Grin

StripeyFox · 11/06/2014 13:50

I know, I suspect I'll have to pull out and be sensible about it - it's 270 miles away. I could get someone else to drive me and get driven back at the first twinge (I wonder who might be a willing candidate). Although my sister reminded me recently that her and my mum have both had rather short labours.

I've just been perusing ASOS too, there is more promising stuff on there than elsewhere.

That's great you heard the heartbeat Kate. My 16 week appt was cancelled yesterday, fuelling even more paranoia from me about the fact I don't feel like I'm growing. Arg, bring on the bump!

Alita7 · 11/06/2014 13:59

See this is why I'm loving ebay as there's more variety than the current stuff on sale In shops. I've got plenty of work tops I can wear when placement starts but I'm not sure my maternity work trousers fit yet and my old normal ones were a bit tight to begin with! so not quite sure what I'm going to wear, luckily it's community based so they're a bit more flexible.

I had a really painful bottom of bump/ lady bits area for about half an hour I wasn't sure if it was wind (got worse after a very bubbly milkshake) or maybe braxton hicks (though it was constant)? But now have sat on the bus and it's decreased dramatically, I don't think I'm worried but should I double check with the midwife?

weeonion · 11/06/2014 14:57

stripey - was your cancelled appt due to another homebirth happening? I think that is a pretty regular thing with our team. bah!!

StripeyFox · 11/06/2014 15:11

Yup, she was called out to a birth. I must just be patient. Just think, come October/November they'll be cancelling appointments for us! How was the meeting with your doula weeonion? Will you see her regularly throughout pregnancy?

BabyButton1 · 11/06/2014 15:21

Hi all just checking in again!! Wow so much has happened :-) welcome to all the newbies...

I've had a rubbish few days, hyperemesis seems to have got the better of me this week. My tablets worked for a few days and now back to being sick non stop again! I saw my doctor on Monday about that infection I had. Turns out it's group b strep, apparently it's fairly common? Just means ill need antibiotics as soon as my waters break and when baby is born, baby will also need a course iof antibiotics. I'm also having to take 8 penicillin a day ATM....but they come back up quicker than I swallow eek!!

I've caved and put a Doppler in my amazon bag..still not feeling baby move yet though. Seeing midwife in Monday so fingers crossed I hear Heart beat.

Anyone feel like there stretching a lot?

Is anyone excited about one born every minute tonight ;-)...?!

StudyFullTime · 11/06/2014 15:29

Just been looking through DS' birth record and saw that my second stage of labour was just 22 minutes, I wonder if I can beat that this time.

Spent 3 hours getting to that stage though! 4 minutes for placenta to come out. I remember him feeding within the hour and my mum getting told off for bathing him too soon (I was having a shower) she popped him in the sink and washed the goo off him!

I managed to scare myself silly when I watched OBEM about 4 weeks before I was due with DS but it did prepare me for the worse so was pleasantly surprised that I had a text book birth.

TwigletFiend · 11/06/2014 16:08

Wow, a lot to go through.

Study, your wedding sounds lovely, just the sort of thing I think it would be lovely to attend as a guest as well as have for yourself, if that makes sense! I hope you both have a fantastic day Smile

RE maternity wear, I am living in harem pants at the moment. DP says they make my ass look 'hilarious' (which means saggy, but who cares, frankly!?) but they're so comfy and quite cool in this weather. I've found most maternity stuff I don't like - why is it all black, white or grey?! Bleh! Asos has the best selection I've found, but not sure if they might be too generous in the 'bump' department for me at the moment as I am also at the just tubby stage.

DP has apologised for last night's asshattery, which is good because work has sucked the big one today. Our entire computer network went down and then both the MD and the General Manager fled their offices, so I ended up on the phone to BT for THREE HOURS this morning, going up and down stairs to the server, scrabbling under desks for cables, whizzing around the whole floor to different computers. Finally pass the phone over to MD when he gets back, go downstairs to have my very delayed lunch and did a massive, projectile bile spew all over the external wall by our main entrance. Classy Grin On the plus side, everyone treading on eggshells around me atm in case there is a repeat performance, heehee.

I am studiously ignoring OBEM. It's just tempting fate.

Baby, no movement yet here either. I hope you feel better soon though, make sure you're getting plenty of rest and keep your feet up!

Annarose2014 · 11/06/2014 17:44

So I spent the day shopping. JojoMamanbebe is not worth the trip. Same stuff as everywhere - plain dresses and breton stripey tops. (What IS it with Breton maternity tops this year???) They do have those wrappy tops but the reviews in here are terrible. Apparently they're horribly fiddly to tie and ride up. And expensive!

Topshop = jeans and boring plain and stripey tops. New Look = jeans and boring plain and stripey tops. Very disheartening.

Thank God for H&M which definitely makes more of an effort. And Red Herring at Debenhams. So it'll be those two and ASOS from here out, I think.

Sucess of the day is that I got some Fitflops! They're the "Aztec Chada" in black and are definitely less hideous than some of the others. Very pleased, I expect I'll live in them!

Annarose2014 · 11/06/2014 18:10

Anyone else get utterly irrationally pleased with any compliment at all these days? Salesgirl in Fitflop complimented me on the colour on my toes and the girl in Kiehls said I had great skin. Logic tells me they were both angling for a sale (which they got!) But my sweaty huge self was so pathetically pleased! Blush

This changing body business really does a number on you, doesn't it???

Hiya all,

Have name changed as I'm no longer Studying Full Time Wink

amy83firsttimer · 11/06/2014 18:37

Annarose yes to compliments, DH said I'd put weight on from nipple down to bottom of arse (!) but that I looked good for it. All I heard was the end bit!!!

kate393 · 11/06/2014 18:45

Ahhh OBEM...love it but it does make me blubb at every birth and when there's usually 3 per programme, it's quite the emotional roller coaster!!!
