Wow this makes me feel so far along! Nearly halfway!

Venus2 · 19/06/2014 23:07

I suppose the list doesn't really matter does it? I doubt that many babies arrive on their due dates. It just isn't nice for people whose names keep getting bumped off the list.

MrsDowneyJunior · 19/06/2014 23:17

Ah. Well I just went through the thread from where Blamber said she had it up to date and made any changes I could find up to the top of the thread but saying that I can't see you on there now! Though I am starting to go blind looking at it! Take a look on the new thread. The new one is with Oct/Nov changed to October/November just to differentiate! Grin

amy83firsttimer · 19/06/2014 23:30

kantha yes to slight cringe at gender insinuating colour. Sorry alita.

Annarose2014 · 20/06/2014 00:01

Has anyone else gotten really sick? Not moring sickness, but a filthy horrible fluey rottenness?

I have been SMOTHERED since Saturday and its not getting better, its getting worse. Now its down in my chest which makes me v anxious cos of possibility of antibiotics. Throat is red raw. I'm worried about strep throat too.

As it is I've had to be taking paracetamol and Sudafed all week which has upset me. But the alternative was not breathing!

Anyway between the nightmare cold, and the pregnancy and the 13 hr shifts I am quite weepy and feel very sorry for myself.

What is adding to it is that I was unwittingly repeatedly exposed to a patient with TB in the last month at work, and now of course I'm paranoid about that!

Anyway, I've been reading up, and apparently one of the major things about pregnancy is that your immune system is fucked, and not only do you pick up everything going, but it takes you ages to get over things. Which is why 5 days later, I'm getting worse not better.

Has anyone else noticed that they're getting sick?

Or is it just me? Sad

MrsDowneyJunior · 20/06/2014 00:22

Sorry, I put pink on my entry on the new roll call thread. Well if anyone wants to change it when they add their own entries then go ahead. I hate raising kids in typical gender colours, toys, clothes, activities but I don't mind pink or blue in this sense. For some reason I don't like yellow though!

I've not been sick yet touch wood but hayfever has slammed me this year when it doesn't usually. I am feeling sick sick and dizzy and feverish and crampy (like food poisoning without the d&v) frequently if I lay or sit wrong and baby is squishing something that doesn't want to be squished! That's not fun.

CraziesTogether · 20/06/2014 05:53

Hey Annarose, I have been off sick since Tues...first time in years! I had a really upset tummy and as you shouldn't take any if the usual remedies just had to ride it out. Docs just said give it 48hours and if no improvement go back!

Tbh the stress of work, the heat etc don't make it easy to get over anything so just admit defeat, put your feet up and top up your vitamin D. I feel much better and won't hesitate to just have some time in the future.

We all need to give ourselves a break! It's not easy growing a human, and your immune system is suppressed, that's why you should be so careful what you eat etc x

WinterLover · 20/06/2014 06:24

Scan day today!!! 3 hours 15min!!!

Alita7 · 20/06/2014 07:32

Good luck to anyone with scans!

I thought pink, blue and yellow were the 'standard mums net terms' hence using them. Personally it doesn't bother me what people say, it's just a cutesy way of saying what you're having, I certainly won't be dressing him in all baby blue as I think it's horrible (although my little swaddle balnket is in baby blue :p) and will go for lots of different colours!

As for starting the thread with a sign up option, I think that's ok. There were lots of people with bad news who we didn't take off who probably would have wanted us to, those who didn't tell us and those who probably found mn isn't for them and we'll probably never hear from them again. If people come back they can resign up with the extra details?

Morning all! Excellent scan news all round, congratulations everyone! And good luck to today's scanees!

I was off sick Tues/Weds for pretty much the first time in a decade of working - I never get ill and usually have the immune system of an ox! But I've had an awful cough/sore throat/headache/cold and been feeling pretty miserable - DH, the poor dog and even the neighbours are getting sick of my violent coughing fits now!

Six days til scan day for us - can't bloody wait! Haven't felt any proper movement at all yet so just want to know s/he's ok in there!

BabyButton1 · 20/06/2014 09:44

Hi all,

Checking in again. I keep dropping off every few days. I thought I'd mastered the sickness but I've spent the last 3 days being sick not stop and struggling to keep anything down. My doctor is now saying aim for 24 weeks....she'll be saying 'aim for 40 wks' soon ha!! I was really hoping to get back to work next week but my doctor says I'm no where near ready because I'm still 1 stone under my pre birth weight...and not eating much...grrrr surely not much longer!! Still no movements at 17 weeks but midwife assures me even though I'm now tiny, it could be a few more weeks...

Congratulations to all the pink, blue and yellows :-) I've loved reading through the threads!! Seems to be the time to get out and start baby shopping...good luck to all those with scans today!

Going back a bit about the transvaginal scans, I've had 3 so far and my 20 week one will be the same because baby seems to be hiding behind my intestines and so deep in my back. They spend a long time measuring your ovaries and bits but all good.

I had my 16 wk appoint this week. Got to hear the babies heart beat :-) found out I was rhesus negative....I didn't even know about this before hand, so few courses of anti D injections to come. I was hoping for water birth but as I have group b strep and baby and I need antibiotics during and after labour, my midwife says it's not possible and that I'll have to stay in hospital for a min of 48 hours after... Anyone had this?

Anyone else finding it uncomfortable lying on your back? Feel like a bricks pushing into my belly.

weeonion · 20/06/2014 09:45

Winterlover - looking forward to hearing your news

I am feeling fine here but sympathies to all those under the weather!

I also find the pink/ blue/ yellow a bit cringey and too cutesy but do understand that it can be used as shorthand for the sex (not gender - that's what we socialise them into though some would argue that it starts in the womb once we know the sex!).

Hope your Fridays are good - on a half day today to take DD out for a treat. Not sure what as yet - she is fancying crazy golf, i am fancying long cold drinks in the sun.....

weeonion · 20/06/2014 09:48

babybutton - just saw your post. you really have been through the mill. here's hoping it all eases for you long before 24 weeks .... How did they find out you have group b strep? is that a standard test?

AussieGoingHomeSoon · 20/06/2014 10:00

Hi all,

Had my scan yesterday and baby was all healthy and sucking its thumb ! We r having a surprise so we r Team Yellow. I don't mind distinguishing by colour, my girl wears pink and my boy wears blue, along with lots of other colours.

I forgot how clear the scans are at this stage ! Baby looks like a proper baby IYKWIM ! Was on a proper high after seeing my 3rd miracle & thinking how lucky we are to have another baby coming to join our little family & can't wait to meet him/her !!

I kept looking to see if I could see a little winkle & thought I saw something lumpy but it could have been anything so still no wiser, but I'm now 2nd guessing my instinct of it being a girl and thinking maybe a baby boy ! Only 20weeks till we find out, isn't that crazy in the same time we have known about being pregnant we should hopefully have our baby's in our arms ! Seems very close now !

Off to Taste of London today with DP on a kid free day (bar the growing bundle) so looking forward to lots of yummy food !!

Good luck guys on any scans today & Congrats to those with scans yesterday, got very excited hearing everyone's announcements !

BabyButton1 · 20/06/2014 10:03

Thank you weeonion.

It's a bit gross but I noticed that in the mornings my discharge was slightly green so I just questioned it and they swabbed me. Turned out the discharge was perfectly normal but they found high volumes of group b strep. My doctor reckons that because I've been so ill my body let the bacteria grow more... Results back today to check it's not in urine or blood because baby is likely to be affected if so. It's pretty unlikely though, only dangerous when waters break and baby is exposed to it.

blamber · 20/06/2014 10:28

Venus I planned to start a google docs list which is easier to maintain. I just need to find time to copy everyone's names in!

booksshoescats · 20/06/2014 10:33

Congratulations on everyone's scans - looks like we're pretty even girl/boy for those who have found out so far.

BabyButton Sounds like you've had a horrible time. I have a friend who tested positive for group b strep - I can't remember why they tested her, but it was quite by chance and now she's a bit of a campaigner for testing to be mandatory, so it's good that you know at this stage.

Kantha I really like the look of that Simplicity Parenting book. I've just ordered it, along with 'How to Talk so Kids Will Listen...', which everyone raves about, and I've been meaning to get for a while. For DD, not the baby Grin.

Annarose I've normally got a cast-iron stomach - the only time I've had sick bugs in decades has been both pregnancies. Your immune system is compromised because the baby is basically a foreign body that you are fighting not to reject (I think!). But it's SO much more horrible being ill when you're pregnant - a regular cold makes you feel like death - sympathies! That must be a bit scary about the TB - have you not had BCG vaccine? Or does immunity from that wear off?

Alita7 · 20/06/2014 11:00

Hope you start feeling better amy and button! It must be awful feeling rotten for so long!

Tescos have a clothes sales including some baby clothes - I was quite restrained and only spent £11 but I got 4 sleep suits, 2 neck chief bibs (wouldn't bother but at £1 why not!) and a little t shirt :)

I'm waiting for my huge 70 piece bundle from eBay to turn up and yesterday I got the prettiest building blocks and mirror toy thing in a charity shop. I might try out a car boot on Sunday. Smile

weeonion · 20/06/2014 11:34

car boot sales can be FAB for baby stuff! I used to get beaut stuff for DD - the best was a whole ikea bag of monsoon gear for her for £5. They are great also for vests / babygros etc - a bundle for £1 which i used to dip dye / tie dye. DD is planning on doing some for this bubba too.

There is a huge one about 1 mile from our flat. DD and i play car boot challenge with a budget of £3 each. Her doe-eyed lost puppy dog look does garner her more success than me usually. Grin

BabyButton1 · 20/06/2014 11:34

Yes I feel quite lucky I know I have it although obviously wish I didn't. I researched it and apparently it's a standard test they do in many countries but it's too expensive so they don't do it in the uk. Crazy really when it can cause such life threatening issues for baby...

I think I'm going to go and check tesco out :-) we have a huge on near us!! My list of things I 'need' keeps growing...my partner is so unaware of what we need so I'm getting away with saying we need everything eek....

We've finally decided on nursery decor and I originally wanted all whites and modern but after watching that programme about babies and how important it is for them to be exposed to bright colours, we've decided to have a bright jungle theme...hopefully it won't look tacky!

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 20/06/2014 11:39

Hey all.

17wks now waiting to hear from my work if they calculate my mat pay on pre or post salary sacrifice as I currently claim childcare vouchers n want to make a decision if to reduce them for next couple mths as this is qualifying time they work pay out on policy they sent is wishy washy n I want a direct answer.

Alita7 · 20/06/2014 11:43

I also got a couple of things from a charity shop, although rummaging through piles puts me off a bit :p looking forward to some local car boots :)

Greenstone · 20/06/2014 11:56

Hello everyone :) Big congrats to everyone's scan news so far. MrsDowney, I'm sorry that you still have to wait for more details about what the scanner thought she saw. I have no experience but would agree with those who are saying that surely they would be jumping on it if it was anything very serious (you'd hope). Odd that the first scan didn't pick it up also.

I had mine yesterday and delighted to report all is well! We didn't find out.

We were waiting a good while to go in for the scan and sitting directly outside the entrance to the labour ward. At one stage a woman was wheeled out from the labour ward and into the postnatal ward, clutching a tiny little bundle of mewling baby. The woman looked absolutely knackered with big puffy eyes (just like me after delivering my dd!) but boy was she holding that bundle tight. I so nearly burst into tears - rather unlike me. It made it feel so real! Babies are amazing. And I'm not really the mushy type. We're so lucky.

Kantha · 20/06/2014 12:20

Glad I've not offended Alita on the colour thing. Glad also that a few others find it cringey too. When you think about it lots of the MN terminology is similar: DH/DD/DS would all sound bonkers if you said it out loud IRL. It also occurred to me that the use of the word 'team' riles me as it sets up boys and girls as opponents of each other from the womb.

Enough of that Smile.

Blamber a google do would be good as you could link it from the OP of each new thread. I never look at the due date list as I normally MN on my phone.

To save you having to copy everyone in, can you set up Google docs so that everyone can edit them? Then each person could add their name to it and effectively re-register for the post 20 week thread?

Re: illnesses lingering. I have had an infection on my shin throughout this pregnancy (v long story). It is being treated correctly now. It is and will take a long time to heal, partly because I am pregnant, and also shin are difficult to heal apparently.
