wonderful scan news everyone

twig i would recommend more then 7! unless u plan to do alot of washing. my dd could go through 7 in a day from various things from spitting up and leaking nappies etc etc. maybe i just had messy baby but deffo more clothes you'll also find some 0-3 are too big/to small etc etc so also suggest not just one shop etc asda are huge sizes next tu ms small and ff middle. i wouldn't spend much on them unless a.special occasion or over 1.

blamber · 19/06/2014 15:42

Tonic water helps for cramps? I'm trying that! Cramps were worse last night. Really hit me in the calves and I was trying to get rid of it without getting out of bed, but it kept coming back. Ouch. Maybe should stop lying on my back too if that's what's causing it.

booksshoescats · 19/06/2014 15:54

Congratulations on your boy Alita – we should do a count up of pinks and blues soon!

And good news that all is well Oklahoma

Twiglet - I would have struggled with half of that – you have my admiration! Glad you’re feeling a bit better today. Re babies growing out of things quickly, I think it really depends. DD was 8lb 4 at birth and then lost over 10% of her body weight and took 5 weeks to put it back on, so she took ages to grow out of her first vests. You might need a few more than seven though – depends how much laundry you do and how leaky/pukey the baby is. DH is a laundry ninja so we don’t tend to run out of clean stuff, but I’d still say you could do with at least 10-12.#

weeonion - Do you have a garden? any chance you could build yourself some more space out there? We're in a 2-bed ground-floor flat, and decided building a studio in the garden is much cheaper than moving (everything's gone bonkers round our way, so we'll be in our flat forever now, I reckon. Fortunately it's a decent size, but still, four people once the girls are bigger will be a squash!). I'm also trying to be a bit more 'minimal', so thanks for the link Kantha.

weeonion · 19/06/2014 16:06

twiglet - i would also say a few more than 7. DD could get through that on a particularily messy / puky day. would also agree with mismylinford - sizes vary so so much. We had 0-3 months for dd and they swamped here - cue hasty shopping trip by dp to get newborn day after she was born.

we didnt have a tumble drier so drying lots of clothes in a hurry was a problem so woud advise having a stock. you can get them so cheap from ebay / 2nd hand shops that it doesnt have to ramp up costs.

we are going to be using our cloth nappies this time around agin but thinking of how many clothes dd can get through as a 7 yr old coupled with nappies and newborn items - i forsee a veritable laundarette going in the flat.

bookshoes - we are in top floor flat so no room to expand anywhere and our garden is communal so no option to use space there ( we arent even allowed to create a border to plant any flowers / veggies!!!)

We want to move but dont want to go too far from current area to have to move dd out of her school. There is no houses available within our budget in the area at all. Our longer term plan is be back in ireland for this L'il Green Socks starting school so dont want 2 flat / house sales in next 5 years.

Despite DP wishing it - our flat isnt gonna become a tardis anytime soon Grin

TwigletFiend · 19/06/2014 16:07

Thanks MrsD, missmylin and books - am scouring eBay for more bargain bundles now! A bit of a pain that we aren't intending to find out sex as the majority of bundles are for either boys or girls, but got my beady eye on a few good deals. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be dressing DC in second hand bargains for a good while, but I figure it should all be fine with a good wash, especially the baby stuff surely?

Speaking of bargains, where does everybody intend to get their muslins from? I am scouting around but they seem ridiculously expensive, even on eBay! Am wondering if it might be cheaper to go to a haberdashery and buy the fabric and cut/hem them myself? Hmm.

weeonion · 19/06/2014 16:42

i got muslins from primark - 3 for £3.50. Think ASDA is even cheaper and B&M have 3 for £2.50..

Hopeful83 · 19/06/2014 17:02

Congratulations on the scan news everyone!

My scan was also all fine and they confirmed it's a girl so we have told people now. Everyone was really excited Smile

weeonion · 19/06/2014 17:28

yeahhhh hopeful - more good news!!!

ladydolly · 19/06/2014 17:39

All good with our scan and just as we thought... It's a girl!!!

Didn't charge for the photos so that's a tenner towards more muslins!!

amylou85 · 19/06/2014 17:40

oooooooo Loving the scan news! Congratulations on your son Alita, and Hopeful on your lovely daughter!

I know I'm being thick, just remind me, is a muslin just a piece of square cloth that soaks up an array of baby leakage?

amylou85 · 19/06/2014 17:41

Yay! and Lady that's wonderful news!

bunnykitten · 19/06/2014 17:55

Argh! Baby was being very uncooperative at the scan and sat with it's back to us. Was sent out for a walk to try to move it around but no luck. Everything they could see looked fine but I need to go back next week for another attempt! It did spin around at one point - it's a boy!

Stubborn like his mum!

MrsDowneyJunior · 19/06/2014 18:10

Yay another boy! Congratulations! Is the roll call thread still going? Will have to look and update!

re muslins DD was never sick (except when my mother tried to sabotage breastfeeding and was sneaking her bottles of formula) and didn't really dribble much either so 7 muslins would have been fine for us as I only used them for feeding (solids) and as a cover when bf'ing but there's no guarantee this one won't be the total opposite so I have 7 now but will get more. I treated myself to the nice posh ones in John Lewis but the rest are going to be cheap as I can find. Smile I still use DDs old ones as cleaning rags 8 years on though they are a bit knackered now!! Grin

Alita7 · 19/06/2014 18:17

Congrats Lady dolly and hopeful on your girls and bunny on your boy :)

I'm feeling so excited now!!!

Dsd is so happy she gets a brother!

Also very very relieved that babies head circumference is in the 47th percentile as by little brother had a MASSIVE head so I was worried :p

I think the dozen sleepsuits mentioned on the minimalist mom blog is about right, as long as you are close to a supermarket where you can buy more quickly if needed, and have the next size up in the cupboard as emergency spares. DS was a sicky baby and I think I ended up with 30 of each size! I bought a few bundles on ebay....

I bought some Muslins from asda last time as they did some cool ones with stars on them, but I also like the ikea ones and they do some rainbow ones from mothercare which I might ask someone to get as a gift. As DS was sicky I actually used terry squares more as a heavy duty muslin.

I don't think I need any more Muslins or sleepsuits but I'm sure I'll end up buying them. Blush

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 19/06/2014 19:23

I have a few muslins from last baby prob only thing we kept as use them to pop karvol on at night if he has a cold.

We just brought a pk of 5 I think from Sainsbury neutral plain n star one's think were £6.

Marks Spencer do a pk of 7 plain white short sleeve vests for£7 primark was £7.50!!

I am hoping that after my scan on 9th July Sainsbury have a 25% off clothes event I am calculating they r due one that wk or wk after n should know sex from scan so can get some clothes n also want school uniform for my little monkey he turns 4 wk before starts school

Kantha · 19/06/2014 19:59

Scan was all good Smile. Feel so much happier. Congrats to all others with good news today. The baby's gender (as requested) remains a surprise. It was in a funny squatting position with its feet crossed for much of the scan. The sonographer said she would have struggled to find out.

If anyone likes the minimalist mom blog, 'Simplicity Parenting' is an interesting read. I think one of the reviews says that all parents-to-be should be issued with it. It's not just about not having too much material stuff, but taking things slowly, not over scheduling your kids' time etc. A good antidote to all the 'must have' stuff that is marketed to us as parents.

Petal26 · 19/06/2014 20:46

Great news on all the boys and girls that were scanned today, congratulations mummies :-)

Venus2 · 19/06/2014 21:17

What a busy scan day!
Congratulations Alita and Bunny - Team Blue &
Congratulations Lady and Hopeful - Team Pink &
Congratulations Kantha - Team Yellow
We need a new list of due dates with all the Teams. Our current (not current/ very confused!!!) list of due dates keeps going back to the first one as baby brain is obviously starting to kick in and people (don't need to name names as you did that yourselves) cut and paste the wrong list. Is it worth trying again? Would also be good to get a revised list as there are so many names on there that no longer seem to be part of our thread. Sorry if this sounds bitchy. I'm just a perfectionist an want a relevant list.

weeonion · 19/06/2014 21:47

venua - great idea for a new updated list but i am reluctant to edit people out when we dont know their reasons for not posting and many may lurk. I know there will are others who sadly left this thread due to problems etc.

How to do it tactfully and without making a decision that if you dont post often - you are out??

Can i ask that people dont have to put a "colour" if they choose not to and it is up to them to attribute a "colour" or sex?

CraziesTogether · 19/06/2014 21:47

It's soooo exciting hearing everyone scan news coming in!

Another step closer :)

I am also now thinking I better buy more vests/Muslins too! I know I am going to be inundated by kind gifts but probably wise to buy the basics.

PosyFossilsShoes · 19/06/2014 21:56

I had my scan on Tuesday and am remaining with Team Yellow. We did get a thumbs up for an apparently healthy one and a gorgeous scan photo of the feet as it was curled round in an awkward position.

Strawberryfield12 · 19/06/2014 22:07

Hi,

I am new to the Mumsnet, however, have been following the November 2014 thread since about week ago.

Congratulations to all having scans today! Ours will be on 9th July, have noticed there are more scans scheduled for this day, so another busy day.

Kantha - Thank you for simplicity parenting suggestion, already bought in on Kindle. :)

I quite admire you all for being so organised with sourcing the baby stuff already. Have bought a painting for our baby when we were on long weekend in Cotswolds and I was 7 weeks PG, which took my DH by shock considering early stages... Smile After 12 week scan ordered the nursery curtains and decided that the rest of everything will start to buy after 20 week scan.
But today I gave in to the White Company sale and bought some really nice cot bed bed linen. On the expensive side, but will be using those for few years unlike the clothing, which will be coming from eBay, Tesco etc.
Tbh, I am quite useless when it comes to baby things, had to google muslins and babygrows mentioned in the previous posts... Blush

MrsDowneyJunior · 19/06/2014 22:23

hmmm Venus I just copied the previous poster so if it's been done wrong before that then it's just rolled on. I did change DC2 to DD2 though! Grin

Kantha · 19/06/2014 22:39

Welcome Strawberry, and glad you liked the book suggestion.

Re a due date list, what about starting a new thread along the lines of "sign in here post your 20 week scan"? Then we don't delete anyone, but those who lurk can put their details down on a new list if they wish?

Am I the only one who finds the "team pink/blue/yellow" terminology a bit cringey? I think it is probably just me being a bit of a grump Wink. No offence intended Alita as I know you started the current thread with this in the title Blush. Third link of the day from me, but I am a bit of a fan of this: pinkstinks
