vivi only had local anaesthetic once and needed about 10 injections to numb my mouth, so think I am a bit resistant but never had it 'diagnosed'. I've also heard it can mean you have a fast labour and are more at risk for premature labour too. Have you had problems with that too? I've never had my hypermobility properly diagnosed by a doctor so it's not on my records as my dislocations have only been in my toes so no reason to go to hospital. I am also lucky enough to have a close relative who is an osteopath, she told me I have it and has treated me when I've had problems. I didn't tell the mw during booking in stupidly but will talk about it when I see her at 16 weeks again.

rpopz unfortunately the obstetrics I know is for something else I have (which is v.v. unusual but doesn't affect pregnancy) no doctor has ever heard of it so I know I'm going to have to jump through hoops convincing them it won't affect pregnancy. If they fight me too much I'll call my specialist consultant and get her to shout at them, she's very good at that! I can do cool finger tricks yes :) when I first met my DH (I was drunk) and showed him how I can lick my elbow, he said that sealed the deal for him then and there!!

Virtual hand holding for Wednesday then Haq!!

My prego friends has announced she loves Theo for a boy! I'm gutted, thats my boy name! Def can't use it if she does!!

Found this article on FB today - gender prediction by placenta location! thestir.cafemom.com/pregnancy/114917/Know_the_Sex_of_Your?utm_medium=sm&utm_source=facebook&utm_content=pregnancy_fanpage&sweepstakes

That's so interesting Sara, mines not officially diagnosed either other than by my dentist who is a specialist on alternative pain relief and has experience with hypermobile patients. I had to see one if the UK specialists for a root canal as my resistance is so strong and he said in all his years practice he's never had to administer so much anaesthetic to one person Confused

I did not know that about potentially fast and premature labour, I'm hoping the fact I have only mild hypermobile symptoms (double jointed arms and thumbs) means it won't affect me too much. So glad you're on the thread with such a relatively unusual condition, reassuring to have someone to compare notes/experiences with!

Saraswati · 09/06/2014 07:02

vivi there was a hypermobile thread on here somewhere! I'll try and find the link. So glad to have a fellow bendy person to chat to who's at the same stage, how far along are you now? I also read some other stuff somewhere but baby brain has got me. I'll try and find the links for you. I can't wait to tell my osteopath aunt I'm pregnant as I know she'll dig up lots of information for me so anything I find I'll pass on to you too!

KeepOnPloddingOn · 09/06/2014 07:05

haq I am showing so there is no point in me hiding it either! Though I haven't told everyone ...

Well folks its two weeks today until my 12 week scan. Ahhhh! I am so excited. This scan will really make things real for us. It is and it isn't at the moment (if that makes any sense..)

KeepOnPloddingOn · 09/06/2014 07:07

Is anyone finding coffee is now a foe? Not the dear friend it once was...?

I love good coffe and always only have 2 a day. I am now really struggling after my usual mammoth mug in the morn. Indigestion and ms is a bitch!

Minibagel · 09/06/2014 07:09

vivipru do you have red hair? This can also affect how much anaesthetic you require apparently.

Minibagel · 09/06/2014 07:10

keepon I go off tea and coffee by about 7 weeks when I am pg. The body can be an amazing thing, trying to stop caffeine intake (even when its v low because its decaff!)

KeepOnPloddingOn · 09/06/2014 07:17

Mini- I did think it was that! But I only ever have 2 big cups a day anyway... So I am nt even going over the guidelines ... :( oh well, suppose its not all bad then. I am also addicted to broccoli now... My body is definitely helping me be healthy at least. I agree it is remarkable :)

Haven't been around much I'm afraid- normally found zonked out on the sofa/bed/nearest bit of floor with ds climbing all over me. Really can't remember being this tired last time.

Mare of an appt with booking in bloods- confusion between mw/gp receptionist and me checking the location twice but still being told incorrectly. Have had bloods etc but not the full appt, still waiting for the mw to get in touch to book it.

Rescan at EPAU for me today. Hoping for growth, heartbeat and a date. We're going to be the people everyone hates though. I really want dh with me as don't fancy finding out bad news on my own, but that means we have to bring ds (1) to EPAU with us. Which is hugely insensitive and I hated other people doing the same when we were there last time round. Plus dh has really bad hay fever at the moment and won't stop sodding sniffing. I'm probably just as likely to go bonkers with him about that as anyone else is as it's driving me nuts.

blizy · 09/06/2014 07:38

passtheanswers. I would double check with the EPU about ds, my EPU is strictly no children.

ViviPru · 09/06/2014 07:43

Sara yep all info welcome, thanks! Minibagel that is interesting. I am originally a redhead (although you'd not know to look at me, I've been blonde for about 1/2 my life now...)

Bohemond · 09/06/2014 07:47

Hi ladies,

Please can I join.

I am 7+4, first baby and I am 42 this month. We would have given up trying this September which I had already got my head around!

Although I haven't been sick I feel a bit nauseous most of the time; have a weird lump in my throat; am waking up between 5 and 6am every morning without fail and am asleep on the sofa by 9pm.

I've found that exercise helps - cycled 30+ miles yesterday but now have a bruised fanjo bone.

Also constipation and bloating - I think some to do with the amount of crackers and toast I have been eating. They are out and I am on branflakes and grapefruit today (just before an all day meeting - yay!)

RPopz · 09/06/2014 08:11

Keepon weirdly coffee is the only hot beverage I can still stand!! Everything else is a no no. Nausea seems to be the lessening but my food/ drink aversions are still going strong! Hmm

lindamagoo · 09/06/2014 08:23

Welcome Bohemond Smile good luck with the all day meeting, don't envy you that one. And a huge congrats on the pregnancy, it always happens when you decide it's time to give up, so happy for you Thanks

lindamagoo · 09/06/2014 08:30

I stupidly allowed myself to think, just for a second, that I could be having a girl this time and now all I can think about are pretty dresses, cute shoes and gorgeous little headbands

Minibagel · 09/06/2014 08:54

Welcome bohemond what brilliant news about your little miracle.

vivipru I watched a really interesting programme about the redhead/ anaesthesia thing a few years ago and there were some scaremongering stories about women feeling everything during general anaesthetic ops but being paralysed so they couldn't tell anyone. But they remembered conversations had by the medical staff in theatre that they would not have otherwise heard etc.

Minibagel · 09/06/2014 08:57

Ps. Meant to add that they think its leftover from tribal times when women had to stay alert at all times to protect their home and babies, so even anaesthesia won't stop that strong instinct. It doesnt affect red headed men in the same way. Interesting.

Minibagel · 09/06/2014 09:13

This morning I made the mistake of smelling an open bottle of milk dated 7th June.

Oh. My. God. The wretching.

Pass me some ginger biscuits please!

haquoi123 · 09/06/2014 09:31

livvy I'm teaching abroad for two weeks from Sat in Italy... To tell you the truth I'm absolutely dreading it. It's knackering at the best of times and the fact that I've barely been out of bed the last 3 days makes me even more terrified. I've told the company I work for who seem supportive so fx.

Has anyone got advise on insect repellant and antihistamines? Am allergic to mosquito bites...

Oooh Minibagel how interesting. I'll have a ratch round and see if I can find it to watch online. Ive been under GA loads and been ok, IMAGINE being semi conscious but unable to alert them!

Great news Bohemond so exciting, welcome!

ViviPru · 09/06/2014 10:01

Shock Madrigals how about that! We're a medical study right here on this thread!

Saraswati · 09/06/2014 10:08

How interesting madrigals I have auburn hair, not full on ginger though, didn't know there was a connection. I have lots of ginger relatives (I'm half Scottish) I'll have to ask some of them if they've had trouble with anaesthetic! Like you vivi I've had a few generals and been ok.

Welcome bohemond and congratulations! What a great story to tell the little one and others when you are 'out'. I'm impressed with your exercise efforts, I can barely move off the sofa!!

I look very pregnant today, scan is 1 week tomorrow, may have to go shopping at lunchtime even though I said I wouldn't buy any maternity clothes before 12 weeks. Nothing fits me and the only things that do make me look very obviously pregnant!! Anyone bought anything yet? Any recommendations for non ugly maternity clothes?
