Maybe heatstroke? Drink as much water as you can and go to bed. There is always the chance you've picked up a bug... Take it easy lady!!

You won't have a clear idea of how big baby will be until it's born. Even growth scans can be wildly inaccurate. I had one with ds and they said he'd be massive. Turns out he was 8lb4oz, respectable but hardly massive!

mrsb87 · 13/06/2014 21:02

Sounds like you need to take things a bit slower taking. Remember you are growing a human Wink

Loulou888 · 13/06/2014 21:07

taking get some rest. Hope you feel better could well be the heat.

I'm hungry from when I wake up until around 5pm then I can't be bothered with tea.

YellowWellies · 13/06/2014 21:23

Puppy you won't get a weight estimate. This surprised me too! If it were men pushing a sizeable "object" through their most cherished body part I think doctors might take their desire to know the size in advance more seriously! A good MW might be able to palpate the bump and give you a broad indication of big baby / small baby but not if there's too much body fat or a lot of fluid. I had growth scans every four weeks for J - he was born two days after the last one and had 'lost' nearly two lb compared to their predictions. Our doc said they're as reliable as trying to guess the weight of someone in a bath in the next room by sound alone!

Just had a look and this one was 362g - from what I remember they only start estimating birth weight at later growth scans.

Sounds like it could be the heat and doing too much tak1ng - hopefully you can take it easy this weekend.

tak1ngchances · 13/06/2014 21:34

Thanks everyone. DH is on his way home now and will bring me some water & toast. I'll be ok am just totally wretched now.

Loulou888 · 13/06/2014 21:39

I had the same midwife with dd and ds. She guessed correctly at 7lb for dd but was way out for ds who she guessed at 7lb again but was 9lb! I Won't be asking for this one.

LondonJen · 13/06/2014 22:01

Binky as me23 says the two things should be distinguished really. I used to work in HR and sending MATB1's over to payroll was part of the job. There's usually a monthly payroll cutoff (approx mid month if you get paid end of month) so if that's been missed the form will sit in an intray and go the next month most likely. And then they have ages really to get it set up for when it will matter for your pay. That's what will happen with the actual form once they have it so they don't need need it bang on that date IYSWIM.

God yes Goats I was eating crisps at 9am having only had breakfast 45 mins earlier and it's been like that all day. I read baby starts to put weight on now so assuming the calories are required for this!??

Good shopping Puppy!

Feel better Taking

pusscous · 13/06/2014 22:02

My Ob keeps assuring us that if both dh and I were similar weight (eg 7lb something) then baby will be and should only vary if fathers' birth weight was more than the mothers'. Ideas on this?

fatpony · 13/06/2014 22:13

goats I have been waking up at 3/4am the past few nights for some snacking - very weird as normally eat breakfast late as not hungry in the mornings! I've been having peanut butter on oatcakes for my midnight snacks! Other than that not very bothered about food but quite hungry, forced myself to cook a red lentil and spinach curry tonight so I could at least eat something healthy.

fatpony · 13/06/2014 22:15

pusscous what is the nutrition book called if you don't mind sharing?

Kirstipops · 13/06/2014 22:15

Aww taking poor you, that sounds like you've had a horrible day! I had 2 sick days this week and it was the best thing I could have done, felt so rejuvenated after chilling out for a couple of days, I didn't even feel guilty about missing work as I usually do; like the other ladies say, we're growing a human here ;) Hope you feel better soon.

Grannyapple · 13/06/2014 22:18

Hi ladies...I've been eating as normal tho not feeling hungry for dinner...I've tried to switch to salads for lunch but I think the heat is making me less hungry.

My staff handbook reads that they need get matb1 form 15wks before due date too. I got my matb1 firm after my 20 wk scan but mw forward dated it for me...I need to remember to hand it In next week actually.

My EFW at 20 wk scan was 335g which is about 12oz I think. My babies are normally 6lb 14oz ish so I'm hoping this one will be the same..

Re nappy bags-I've got a pacapod...had a Cath Kidston one last time which was lovely but spilled stuff in it & it leaked through to the lining of the bag & stained it...

FlipFantasia · 13/06/2014 22:34

Also reduced appetite here. Though unfortunately not for sweets! But am finding oatcakes and hummous a lifesaver. But keep skipping lunch and even dinner sometimes (this is totally not like me and I don't remember it from the other two pregnancies).

Puss, size is v hard to predict. Dd was predicted to be 10lbs 8oz and was 8lbs 4oz (I've also heard the bath tub next door analogy that yellow mentions!). It was explained to me that size is a worry when there is big disparity between father and mother, eg 6'5" father who was 9lb at birth and 5' mother who was 6lb at birth. But nearly every midwife (and obs) I've ever met seems to think you grow the right size baby for your body and only issues like gestational diabetes really cause problems.

cabster · 13/06/2014 23:07

Thanks CJ! I've discovered that Firecracker cheese has most potent laxative qualities, always handy to know these things.

I'll be reusing my Kipling bag, it's not a changing bag per se but it's long like a messenger bag, tough nylon, hangs neatly over a buggy handlebar and plenty of pockets. Can't remember the name at the mo, it was a QVC TSV Blush

World Cup fever has hit my husband. He's not bothered about England, he'd rather watch everyone else and he has a very complicated betting system going on. Yawn. For me it's cricket season, if the football wasn't on I'd get to see more of England v Sri Lanka! Just got in from watching Lancashire beat Leicestershire so I'm happy Smile

SIL is due in 2 weeks. Her breech baby has just turned, and she's upset because she wanted an excuse for a section - baby's already measuring around the 8lb mark they reckon! And as a first time mum she may well go past her EDD... Hope yellow is right about estimated birth weights being inaccurate!

pusscous · 14/06/2014 01:27

fatpony The book is called What to expect when your expecting- with a whole chapter on nutrition. very factual book though Americanised.

Flip Dh is massively taller than me, me 5'2, him '6'4. Both of us were stuck in our 5'2 ish mothers. Same happened to my aunt. All women had tiny babies, fathers birth weight the same and in some cases the height to, but all babies required dragging out- no exaggeration!! OB will only measure at term to see if pelvis too small. Too small a pelvis to birth your baby only affects 10% of women. Two of whom I am closely related to, both relatives told they shouldnt have been allowed natural births. My Ob is not worried about my family history though, I am

FlipFantasia · 14/06/2014 02:17

Ah Puss, I see why you'd be worried! I would say that other women's births are not yours, so try to not worry too much. But at the same time, keep expressing your concerns to your ob/gyn. He/she will listen (I have no direct experience with US obs but friends here seem more relaxed about requesting sections etc). Growth scans are unreliable but anything making your anxious should be taken seriously.

Fwiw I really don't like what to expect. It's unrealistically prescriptive (eg that diet is just unrealistic for many women struggling with sickness/heartburn etc!). I personally stopped with it when it recommended avoiding walking along busy roads to avoid inhaling pollution (totally unrealistic in London!). Dh, who is American, was disappointed (he thinks it's the pregnancy bible!). Having said that, I did like the section on breastfeeding. I found it quite sensible when hormonal and struggling after my emcs with DS.

pusscous · 14/06/2014 03:09

Actually, agree Flip about review of the book, some is good, other bits hit and miss. I do prefer European perspectives, less prescriptive. I like the month by month descriptions of what is happening to baby. The amount of each food to eat was a useful initial guide- actual only read that bit later on. currently not eating much due to the heat- a jar of nutella is my friend! and thats not in the book.

Im not so fussed with the growth scans with regard the birth, unless they say a 10lber! Small babies caused the damage that I want to avoid and according to my dm unavoidable for me Had the conversation twice now, but think will need to keep on this line and ask her to measure my pelvis, I'm not anti c-section so will have to suggest this line to her. Also think that some of the points/ emphasis gets lost- Americans phrase things so differently!

Can I ask Flip is there an alternative to Milton here that you know of?

pusscous · 14/06/2014 03:18

And thanks Flip for making understanding my point- makes me seem less paranoid!

FlipFantasia · 14/06/2014 03:52

No idea what the Milton alternative would be! Are you looking for something to sterilise bottles with? Not sure what Milton is used for (my mum used it and bottle fed all 6 of us). If breastfeeding you don't need any sterilising equipment (hot soapy water and air dry is fine for bottles, teats, pump etc).

I do stock up on bepanthen and calpol (and calprofen) and sudocrem when having visitors etc.

Also ikea is great for baby stuff - cool textiles and nice furniture (some of the american stuff is mad, huge armoires and massive changing stations and the like). Have you been to a buybuybaby? I personally find babies r us to be grim but buybuybaby is quite good. Plus I love skip hop stuff.

YellowWellies · 14/06/2014 04:37

All the furniture in J's room is IKEA - their cots, cot beds etc are awesome and he just has normal IKEA adult hemnes chest of drawers etc. Can't see the point in the wee stuff you have to replace when they're five and their clothes are too big for nursery furniture. tight arse Yorkshire bird Their fabrics are lush too!

Why do I drag myself awake every weekday morning for work. Then on a Saturday, my one lie in day of the week, I'm wide awake at 6am :-(

MrsDinoRawr · 14/06/2014 07:30

binky I am exactly the same. woke when the alarm would normally go off if it was a weekday. hubby is still snoring away. however my baby is kicking away nicely. So I am enjoying lying here feeling it. I have an anterior placenta so kicks are usually a bit hit and miss.

mum2kiss · 14/06/2014 07:54

Same here too binks been up for nearly an hour.

I heard babies r us have a sale so I'm off for a browse...
