ps on the maternity clothes I have been doing well at ASOS maternity - only had to send one thing back which was a weirdly draped jersey number, except the jersey was so thin it showed every bump and lump on the thighs and bump. It must have been designed for a supermodel!

But tomorrow I am going into town and determined to visit an H&M which has a section, think there is one on Regent's Street (London).

binkybunny · 13/06/2014 14:40

Ah ha- I knew I was right! Slightly concerning that the midwife was so adamant that my work was 'trying it on' and she was right. I would not have been happy if I'd lost my maternity rights! Not sure how I'm going to get my MatB1 in time now though!

For maternity clothes I've loved all my Mothercare Blooming Marvellous stuff (apart from the first linen trousers which were too scratchy) and New Look bargains. They've all fitted well, although I am starting to find my New Look under bump work trousers are getting a bit tight.

I will be hitting Asos though for a dress for my sisters wedding. All her friends will be in trendy designer gear, at least I know no-one else will be wearing the same as me :)

ohthegoats · 13/06/2014 15:06

I'm still in loads of my own normal clothes thank god, all maternity clothes are dreadful for me.

I just got a taste of teaching at 30 weeks pregnant I think - fell asleep in assembly, just came over incredibly hot and exhausted and next thing a child is poking me. Oops.

ohthegoats · 13/06/2014 15:07

Regards Mat1B, I made 8 phone calls to the local midwives, and when I finally managed to speak to one, she just said 'no worries, I'll sign it and leave it at reception in the surgery'. I've never met her.

TheBuggerlugs - so you actually had to go and see the MW (so she could read your 20w scan notes)? I was hoping they could just do it and leave it at my GPs reception or something...

Kirstipops · 13/06/2014 16:18

My midwife didn't have to see mine, I just told her my due date over the phone and she posted the matb1 form out to me.

binkybunny · 13/06/2014 16:38

So it looks like my midwife was just being awkward. She's the one that does the £300 + hypnobirthing course that I enquired about and her attitude (as well as the price) totally put me off. Will have to try and speak to another midwife but it's rubbish as we have to leave a voicemail then one of 4 MW calls back.

puppythedog · 13/06/2014 16:56

It might be worth finding out who the ore senior midwife or team manager is and complaining.

In other news we have just had our first splurge, it's money we don't necessarily have at this point in the month, or in deed any month but we have bought a Avent Natural bottle kit with steriliser and breast pump that was half price in Mothercare, some nappies and wipes and things, some baby grows sets with socks and hats and vests and stuff in New born and small baby (something like that, up to 7.5lbs and up to 10lbs) and a sleep bag thingy.

It's nice to feel a bit more prepared and quite irrationally I was cross yesterday that MIL has more stuff than we do Envy for little Schrodenburg.

YellowWellies · 13/06/2014 17:51

I'm wearing my new H&M skinnies and I luffs them! Thanks for the recommendation ladies!

Is anyone else starting to get REALLY hungry? After about 11am I could just eat all day. Thing is, I can feel myself getting lardier, and I don't like it, but get all light headed and weird if I don't eat every few hours. I'm only interested in carbs too, so am trying to eat a salad sandwich, or something like veg chilli with a jacket potato for some health benefits, but feel as if I'm blobbing out.

mrsb87 · 13/06/2014 18:06

goats today I have been the complete opposite. But I'm putting that down to the heat. Normally I'm ravenous!

pusscous · 13/06/2014 18:19

I was like that Goats at the start of the second trimester. Was ready a pregnancy book at the time that had recommended amounts of each food group to get the right amount of nutrients for us and baby. Turned out not enough protein and fruit/veg of the bright variety. Was shunning carbs anyway but upped the amount of protein and feel much better- more milk, yoghurt, eggs and cheese, as we also need lots of calcium. Can let you know the recommended amounts if interested

Kirstipops · 13/06/2014 18:22

I defo have days where I'm just ravenous almost all the time, not sure whether this is down to growth-spurting baby or just my own greed!

pusscous · 13/06/2014 18:23

Now not very hungry, sometimes have to force myself to eat/ snack. To encourage me I bought a bag of cherries that I fancied. Read the price as 4.99 a bag so chose a large bag- it actually weighed over 2lbs and was priced per lb! Didn't even twig when paying only when I looked at the receipt afterwards. Opps.. think thats why DH doesnt let me do the shopping now..

ohthegoats · 13/06/2014 18:25

I have had protein cravings in the past - definitely calcium stuff like yoghurt, icecream and cheese - but that's gone away the last few weeks in favour of cake and bread. I've avoided cake pretty well, but prior to being pregnant, bread made me really ill so now I can eat it without being ill, I'm enjoying it probably a little too much! Maybe should force myself to go back to the protein/salad combo.

Me23 · 13/06/2014 18:27

I always ask to see maternity notes to confirm EDD for mat b1 it is a legal document and we are not allowed to give it out before 20 weeks. Also as I'm in a busy clinic where midwives see over 500 women a week I don't just know everyone by name. So tell women they can pop in mon-fri 9/5 with notes and we can do it.

Gp can also give it out doesnt have to be a midwife. While you do need to tell your employer that you are pregnant by 25 weeks this just means that "informing them" eg a letter not a mat b1 form you only need to give that 28 days before maternity pay is due to commence. So don't worry. The wording is confusing as people equate tellin their employer with handing in mat b1 form they are two seperate things.

binkybunny · 13/06/2014 18:40

Thanks me for clarifying. Our staff handbook also reads like we have to have the form in at 15 weeks but that will give me plenty of time. Just wish my MW could have said that instead of being so rude!

Bumpforme2014 · 13/06/2014 19:33

Just curious, what was everyone's estimated fetal weight at 20 week scan? Mine was 321g

tak1ngchances · 13/06/2014 19:52

Oh god I am so sick. Threw up yesterday morning but spent the afternoon lying down and felt ok.
Today went to a meeting, did a presentation and came home feeling a bit odd. Have just thrown up the most sick of my life. Sorry for the TMI.
DH is out but I've asked him to come home, which I would never normally do but I don't know what to do with myself

bumpbangbump · 13/06/2014 19:57

Oh is off out for the football. I'm making cake and ordering Chinese!!! I think it's safe to say, I'm eating all the time.

All your bag talk was making me feel like a right slummy mummy. I got a free one from boots last time, which lasted pretty well, and now use my D's Thomas the tank rucksack to put all his bits in. He can carry his own nappies that way Grin!

Loving all the buying stuff talk. Last time we were given or lent pretty much everything and this time will be the same or the stuff we already have. Thank goodness for peoples generosity, and need to get rid of bulky items until they need it again. We would have really struggled without the cribs and Moses baskets and clothes that came our way. Went to a nct nearly new sale the other day and my bestie bought a baby Bjorn carrier for £8 and has said I can borrow that when mine arrives.

puppythedog · 13/06/2014 20:09

When do you get an idea how big your baby will be? Sure it's a dumb question but do you get a rough estimate at some point? I ask because of having bought some stuff and having chosen to just get on with it and get some but hedging bets and getting some 'up to 7.5lb and some up to 10lb'.

I'm now desperate to take a few days off and decorate Schrodenburgs room, we're thinking Magnolia on the walls and then paint many different coloured stars (about 8 inches big at furthest points) in the room.

I can't comment on the eating thing, any of my extra eating is not because mrsthedog is pregnant.

mrsb87 · 13/06/2014 20:09

taking you really need to be taking things a bit easier if your still being sick. Are you taking anything for it? If you push yourself too hard unfortunately the sickness will just come and bit you in the ass!! I found that out the hard way.

tak1ngchances · 13/06/2014 20:13

Hi mrsb I hadn't been sick for about 4 weeks so I thought it was all behind me. I haven't taken anything, no...it was an extremely busy & demanding week at work so maybe that's it? Coupled with the heat in London etc...
Just so rotten

puppythedog · 13/06/2014 20:22

Mrsthedog feels a bit sick if she over does it and misses food and stuff. Look after yourself taking
