I want an M&S starter set but they are sold out in small sizes

ohthegoats · 05/06/2014 11:43

I'm going to get given a load of stuff before the baby arrives - all gender neutral from friends. But they were really in to dressing their very tiny babies in little outfits - things like jeans etc. Whereas I just want to go down the babygro direction until it's 6 months old/crawling really. So I expect I'll have to do some shopping, but not for a month or so.

sazzlehopes · 05/06/2014 12:44

Bugs - personally I'd just buy a few. Say 6 vests or so in a small size, not tiny, just regular newborn because unless you live in the back of beyond it is easy enough to nip out to mothercare/supermarket whatever and pick up more. I was convinced I was having a huge baby as 5 days overdue and giant bump but he was tiny! All our newborn stuff swamped him! But it was so nice for hubbo to have a job to do and feel useful by going out to choose things from mothercare when really apart from look after you and the house they feel sort of a spare part when it comes to baby?

sazzlehopes · 05/06/2014 12:46

I'm so a fan of babygrows or easy tops and legging trousers to pull down. All the 'outfits' can wait until much later on. There is nothing cuter than a baby in a baby grow.

All good here. My wee man was fabulous & squirmy and posed beautifully for all measurements. Yay!! Let the shopping commence. :)

I've never understood the need for jeans on babies. They look so tight on their little tum tums!

Steal away bugs ;)

So I've been looking at the ergo (my dp hates you Mumsnetters! ) and everyone seems to love it! It's sooooo expensive! Well turns out my friend in settle has one that she is happy to send me! All I need to get is the insert...how cool is that?!

YellowWellies · 05/06/2014 13:43

I've got to wait til 4.10 for my scan and Jonas is being satanic! Think this scan, with him, might be a bit different from the fluffy loved up scans from the first time round! Am massively envious as it would be nice to enjoy it without crowd control duties...

Congratz cj ... Cant wait to see my wee mini me tomorrow! .,, hoping & praying everything goes well also!

Cant believe we are all 5 months pregnant.. Think the next 20 weeks will fly by... Eeeeek (",)

Loulou888 · 05/06/2014 14:19

Congrats cj

I bought two packs of vests I think there were around 12 in total. And around 9 baby grows with a cardi. Pram suit thingy

If you are bottle feeding milk always dribbles down side onto top of vest and baby grow and then they need dry clean ones on. Likewise with runny Poos it goes everywhere! You could easily get through 4 or 5 baby grows and when you are tired at first you don't really want to be going a wash every single day if you can help it.

Next size up to age 1month I found were a good laster. Unless you have a tiny baby of course.

YellowWellies · 05/06/2014 14:26

Yes needing 6 outfits in one day isn't unheard of in the early days where their arses just explode. Poonami! The sort of nappy change you hope happen just as DH gets in from work.... We had to wash his hair from some of the worst. Am not kidding!

YellowWellies · 05/06/2014 14:27

Hence my scepticism about pretty outfits in the early days!

Pinkie2103 · 05/06/2014 14:36

My son was a 'happy chucker' for about 5 months so we often had a number of changes each day. I had a old dressing gown which, in the early days, I'd put on during feeds to protect my clothes - it was pretty gross so

I also found the old terry towling nappies better for mopping up messes than muslin wraps (which are rubbish as wraps because they are not stretchy enough but great for covering the pram in the sun

Pinkie2103 · 05/06/2014 14:41

These are also great if you are into wrapping/swaddling. Sooooo much easier than trying to use a normal wrap (which my son always managed to get out of)

BingoBango85 · 05/06/2014 14:41

Only an hr until my 20 week scan. Not sure why I'm so nervous. Then off for a wax etc before our holiday in Croatia Saturday! Fun times

LondonJen · 05/06/2014 14:45

Congrats CJ! Fab news.

Now don't all fightover it but I got my M&S 1 month size off ebay and they do still have Newborn available it's this one www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251537873213?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&var=550443856492&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I got one set of sleepsuits in 0-3 months, all other clothes I got size 1 month, in some shops 00-01month, and assumed if we needed smaller dp could go fetch them!

Dp was over 9lb. I wasn't even 7lb. I have no idea how big to expect our baby to be!

LondonJen · 05/06/2014 14:48

Aw Pinkie that baby looks SO delighted in that pic!

Good luck Bingo

ExcitedCJ · 05/06/2014 14:49

Thanks STIGZ, I am sure yours will be great tomorrow. FX for you.
Yellow hope yours is smooth later. I took DD to daycare for an hour to ensure we didn't have distraction!
Mum2 that's what I did too, tended to use the no feet, patterned ones for day time & white, feet on for night. I just couldn't handle DD in anything frilly or extra fabric.
First baby purchase - Tuppence & Crumble Star blanket in Denim. :) Was that your recommendation Yellow can't remember now, anyway Thanks to whoever supplied that tip. X

Loulou888 · 05/06/2014 14:57

yellow that happened to dd too! Trumped followed by wet bubbling all up back, back of hair yuck! I think we prob binned a few vests because of it. Breast milk makes baby poo very runny. The most memorable was when we were eating our tea!

Good luck everyone with your scans

YellowWellies · 05/06/2014 15:08

BF babies can be v efficient in their pooing. My pals DD used to poo once every 11 days. But when she did it took out everything in its wake. She once filled the legs of the baby grow and pramsuit she was wearing. It went instantly from white to brown . We were all Shock Shock Shock Thankfully BM poos don't smell that bad. But yeah everything she was wearing got chucked regularly!

afternoon all!!

I have just had my 20 week scan!!!

I had a it of a panic this morning about feeling movement for 10 days so rang homebirth midwife who told me at go to hospital to maternity assessment. They struggled with different dopplers to find a heart beat to no avail - by which stage i was in tears. well - a bit more than just tears to be honest - almost full on panic! Thankfully DP was with me. The staff were just excellent - really warm, understanding and caring.

I was sent for a scan and they decided to do the full fetal anomaly instead of waiting til monday!

All is good. L'il Green socks ( as we know call him / her) is fine, moving around alot and wriggling away - all checks were positive, measurements match etc etc. DP was quite emotional for some reason - especially at seeing their wee feet when checking for club feet. The reason i cant feel movements is that as womb has got bigger and moved up - my placenta is now right at front. Reassured by that. smile

We already know the sex so thankfully we weren't relying on this scan to find out as they couldnt tell due to position ( despite having me jump up and down, bounce on bed etc). i think i would have been mightily disappointed if i was all built up to find out and then not.

That was my next big milestone over. phew!

Another 10 weeks to next scan and then final one at 36 weeks.

fatpony · 05/06/2014 16:32

That's good news onion, you must have been so relieved.

poonami - am I looking forward to that! (not). That will defi' be one to save up for hubby.

I bought some plain white bodysuits and babygros and a couple of sleepsuits in newborn and one month from the M&S sale today. Then I remember I recently bought life insurance and it comes with a £60 voucher for M&S. So when that comes through I'll probably buy some more pricey things like sleeping bags and blankets. Cannot wait!

YellowWellies · 05/06/2014 16:57

Scan went well. J was placated with rice cakes but still wanted up on the bed with me! Very wriggly. We're still team yellow and actually we'd have struggled to find out anyway due to his / her position. Very excited though Smile
