Morning Girls,

Thought I would start a new thread as someone suggested further down the last one.

Come and join.

Debbsy, how are things today ? Hope you are feeling better.
Tummy Button is starting to poke out a bit, sort of half in and half out, looks very odd.
We brought our buggy yesterday - we have gone for this one , being delivered a week Friday. Can't wait to get it home and have a push.

Not even thought about hospital bag yet. When I was pregnant with DD, I'm sure I already had it packed by now. We had one for labour and one for afterwards which worked quite well, think we will do the same this time.
Carseat - I had to stay in after having DD so DH brought the carseat up to the hospital the next day with him. I think we will put it in the car ready this time though as hoping to be in and out in a flash

Thanks for the advice NJ and you dont sound awful i hadnt even thought that it might be tough and i will give in but it is a possibility. I was just told that some mummies dont produce enough milk to satisfy their babies and that it is best to have some handy rather than have the baby screaming in the middle of the night - im confused!!

If it makes you feel happier to have some in the house then by all means get it, but, BF is very hard at first, especially with your first baby, and I know I for one would have given anything for a couple of hours sleep in the first week or two, and if we'd have had formula in the house DH would have been up making a bottle so he could take over for a while!! As it was I only BF for 6 weeks, but now realise where we went wrong, and am hoping that with some proper advice (and a different HV!!) I can carry on BF-ing a lot longer this time! As I said it is up to you, the only thing I would say is that there are more mums who give in to un-helpfull and plain wrong advise given by so called health profesionals, than there are people who don't have enough milk, in fact I would say that unless there is a medical reason why a woman would stop producing milk, then there is probably only a handfull of mothers throughout the country that actually just don't supply enough.

NatalieJane · 01/09/2006 15:26

Meant to say we always used SMA and then he went on to the hungrier baby one (can't remember the proper name for it!!) TBH though I don't really know which formula is 'the best', we always used SMA just because we knew the name... probably not the most sensible reason really!!

I don't think there is muhc difference, ds was bottle fed and before we worked out he was lactose intolerent he had many of the brands.

He didn't take to Farley's it was alot thicker that others.
SMA is cheapest but DS didn't like it.
Cow and Gate was good but i preferd to give him Hipp organic then i could as it was organic but like i say he ended up lactose intolerent anyway and then had a prescription only formula.

If you feel happier having some around then do get a small tin maybe. At the end of the day you will know whats best for baby and yourself and if breastfeeding just isnt working for you then it may be handy but i wouldn;t worry to much as you say formula is widley available.

LeBe · 01/09/2006 16:32

Just to say thankyou for all the advice girls, i think i will either get a small tin or leave it until he is born and i can judge for myself, there is a 24 hour tescos around the corner so im not stranded or anything.

Plus would also like to say 'thankyou' for today, ive been going totally insane at work and really loosing it with people but it is lovely to come on here and talk to you guys and know you are going through the same things. It is a Godsend!

podglet · 01/09/2006 19:30

Good gried, we're well over 100 posts already! Haven't been able to keep up! DP wants to get a smal tin of formula in "just in case" but I don't want it in as I know he or I will cave in when it gets tough and I do desperately want to exlusively BF!

Another one here with growth worries of the "too large" kind. Saw my GP today for my 28 week check and I am 28 + 1 by hosp Dr dates, 28+1 by scan date and 33 weeks by tape measure today! Eeeek! GP has referred me to consultant next week for growth scan and check and poss discussion about elective inducement at 37 / 38 weeks! Eeek again . Obv I want what is best for LO (and me!) but this is scary
I know tape measure can be misleading as it doesn't measure the baby which is why I need the growth scan too but I am a bit stressed about it now

Know what you mean Lebe - my work is rubbish at the moment and it is so nice to come on here and rant if you want, knowing there are others here who feel the same! P.S am planning to stop work on 27th Oct with LO due on 18th Nov but that might change next week!

podglet · 01/09/2006 19:31

Ahem, meant 28+6 for Hosp Dr dates...

MeAndMyBoy · 01/09/2006 20:49

LeBe and NJ have you had a look at the feeding areas on here - lots of really good advice and suggestions and support for when it gets hard - and for some people it does get really hard. I breastfed DS for 6mths, the first few weeks were incredibly painful and hardwork. I think it makes it harder because the professionals don't warn you it may hurt to start with and so when it does you assume you are doing something wrong.

It might be worth finding out where your local breastfeeding support groups are sure start, NCT and La Leche (think I've spelt that right) and have their numbers somewhere safe and ready or even go down to the breastfeeding cafe's before LO's are born to get info etc? I've already been down cause I had problems with DS and don't want to go down the same route this time

eeyoreuk · 02/09/2006 07:14

morning.... you lot wwere very chatty yesterday!!

i'm not having any formula in the house unless i need it... i really want to do it this time, i gave up after 3 weeks with ds, although he did have expressed breast milk for another 3 weeks but i felt so awful, guilty and tearful that i didn't try harder, but i had possibly the worst week of my life leading up to ds's birth that emotions and exhaustion just got on top of me till i cracked up (literaly, picture hysterical woman sittin at the bottom of stairs rocking, sucking thumb crying - and that was after i finished smashing up the house) i think if i have formula here it would be to easy to say lets try that, rather than persevering.... need to make up for a lot of emotions after last time, i still get very upset about it all now (bloody hell, i'm crying)

so anyway... went out last night with the girls from work had such a laugh, but before i even got their i fell over.. don't know what happened, one minute i'm standing, next i'm on the floor - twisting my ankle in the process! ouch! really hurting today can barely walk on it, so it's feet up ice pack and paracetamol for me today... not doing any thing!! xx

saralou100 · 02/09/2006 09:50

oh and i'm mad for tomato's still... chocolate still has vomit inducing properties for me.. in fact most sweet things do, no like ice cream... but i'm eating lots of fruit cause i also have issues with veggies at the mo... i'm also not really wanting to eat anything... spend ages deciding on dinner cause i just don't fancy anything...only put on 6 lbs so far!

Charleesunnysunsun · 02/09/2006 13:15

podglet - I am exactly the same i was measuring way to big for my dates but i haven't been given a growth scan I just have to see my midwife for her to measure again in 4 weeks and if it's still measuring huge she will get an emergency hospital appointment with my ob so we can talk about either an elective c/section or induction! I guess if that happens they will scan me whilst im there, but apparently it's common as like you say they only measure the bump not the baby and we could be carrying alot of water.

I have been having real problems eating meat this last week i just cant chew and swallow it without feeling sick, i think im being forced in vegatarianism by this baby! i has a curry sauce and rice last night i picked all the pork out

Hiya girls - I have been having really bad BH today, but I think it is because I have been working sooo hard! We have ripped out some fitted wordrobes in our room and moved the whole room around to accomodate the computer and have had a massive sort out of clothes - I was when we threw out 11 bags of unwanted clothes (well they went to the charity shop)- now all we have to do is move a freestanding bookshelf from the spare room into our room tomorrow and begin to decorate it so that ds can move into it - it's hard work but I really can't settle until ds is in his "big boys room" because I only have 8 weeks to go and I want him settled.
I wanted to say about the breastfeeding - I only managed for 6 weeks with ds - he was sooo hungry, in the end I was expressing aswell (so I could see how much he was taking) and breastfeeding and would you believe that 1 day he fed on the breast, then had 4oz of expressed milk and then 4oz of SMA - so I decided that the breast milk wasn't satisfying him and went onto formula at 6 weeks - I would like to try harded this time but have already bought some nipple protectors - I still remeber the pain

Morning all

Well some of you might have seen my thread, the pushchair thing is all up in the air again, I am really trying not to obsess about it though, just wanting to make sure we choose the right one! We have the plasterer here, he is getting on well DS was up all last night being sick, but he is fine this morning, of course I am asleep on my feet though! DH wasn't very pleased because I didn't wake him up, but I couldn't see the point in all of us being up, and I wouldn't have slept knowing DS wasn't well.

Anyway, bacon sarnies are doing the rounds Enjoy the rest of the weekend TC xxx

Charleesunnysunsun · 03/09/2006 09:12

Morning!

Nataliejane im sorry your having a hard time with this pushchair business, have you gone to any shops and actually tested any? It seems silly but if you take a doll or a teddy and ask to try one out round the shop you will get the feel or different ones aswell as how easy it is to put up/down and the size. Sorry if you already have and have posted im suffering from pregnancy brain!

I am suffering with extreamly sore boobs today (sorry tmi) i have forgone my bra which is a danger in its self due to the sze of em, but im only popping to tesco so i shouldn't scare to many unexpecting people. May be my milk is coming in early i will probably start leaking everywhere now!

Hope your weekend is good, whats left of it! It's raining here and thoroughly misrabel, if i dodn't have ds to look after i would snuggle on the sofa with a good book! ho hum grin]

Kaybee7777 · 03/09/2006 13:00

Afternoon everyone!
sorry to hear about your continuing troubles with pushchairs NJ.

Can anyone give me some advice about ISOFIX. If you buy a car seat with ISOFIX, e.g., maxicosi cabrio, can you still use it without having to buy the base thingy??? DH and I are very confused!

Enjoy what's left of the weekend

LeBe · 03/09/2006 17:14

Hi

Just wondered if anyone could help shed some light on my new ailment! I woke up early this morning with a really sharp pain in my left lower side of my tummy, it was constant and my stomach wasnt contracting or anything, so i had a bath and it did ease off so i went back to bed and its now only there when i move about. I aslo had a feeling of pressure down below (sorry if tmi) kind of like i needed the toilet any ideas?

Now ive moaned on.. NJ sorry your having more probs with the whole pram thing, and i had to give the baby my wardrobe because he had more clothes than me! Have now been waiting 5 weeks for a new wardrobe. I have been really craving meat (mums cooking me a roast today - i cant wait.) wanting meat is something to do with iron isnt it? That reminds me i must ring for my blood test results .

Hope everyone is having a good weekend, mines gone in a flash, probably cos ive spent most of it asleep! x

MeAndMyBoy · 03/09/2006 17:16

LeBe I had something similar about 5 weeks ago - felt like a stitch all done the lefthand side of my tummy - it eased off and by the next day had gone completely. No idea what it was though.

Kif · 03/09/2006 18:37

If your car has isofix it means you have some metal fixing loops in the back seats which are welded to the car chassis. To use it you'll need a base for whichever seat you choose.

It does work out a bit pricier.I'm getting the britax cosy tot (or rock tot or someting). we'll need to additionally buy a britax cosy tot isofox base. Then the base will 'lock' into the isofix connectors in the car - and you'll only need to clip your seat on and off the base.

LadyAnne1stTimeMum · 03/09/2006 19:08

Hi all - funny thing about tomatoes - I dislike Ketchup at the moment but tomatoes in any other form are very palatable. We had a curry on Friday (can't stand chinese at the moment but our friends insisted on a takeaway)- I had a rogan josh. I was worried it might be too hot for me (I'm not a fan of hot and spicy at the moment) - but the tomatoes in the sauce were so strong and beautiful - I sat down with my naan bread and just enjoyed soaking it up from the takeway trays! Other cravings are grape and cream cheese sandwiches (has to be wholemeal), hula hoops and chocolate (I have quite a sweet tooth at the moment - unsual for me). Talking about pains - I have a persistant sore feeling just below my ribcage, regardless of whether I have eaten or not (and I am resisiting the crap - including the hula hoops as much as possible)- I've tried a better fitting bra - but nothing seems to work except lying down. My mother thought it was the baby - but baby is still lying very low (and continuing to kick me in the pelvis). I'm seeing madwife on Tuesday - I hope she can shed some light on it, also feeling very itchy all over - anyone else?
LA.
