Morning Girls,

Thought I would start a new thread as someone suggested further down the last one.

Come and join.

Debbsy, how are things today ? Hope you are feeling better.
Tummy Button is starting to poke out a bit, sort of half in and half out, looks very odd.
We brought our buggy yesterday - we have gone for this one , being delivered a week Friday. Can't wait to get it home and have a push.

Not even thought about hospital bag yet. When I was pregnant with DD, I'm sure I already had it packed by now. We had one for labour and one for afterwards which worked quite well, think we will do the same this time.
Carseat - I had to stay in after having DD so DH brought the carseat up to the hospital the next day with him. I think we will put it in the car ready this time though as hoping to be in and out in a flash

i got the sure start with dd and am entitled to it again this time. but i think you must be recieving income support/job seekers if you havnt children yet as you wont yet be recieving tax credits (if you want to apply now) but if you wait till after lo is born you will prob get it by the level of your tax credit award.

you can get income support if you cant work but your dp/dh cant work more than 30 hours a week (stupid stupid rule!) dont really understand how that encourages people to help themselves rather than just both stop work and live off benefits!! but hey ho, the life in britain!

staceym11 · 07/09/2006 10:01

forgot to mention anything about myself today how silly of me. well had another ok night sleep but dd was up early this morning so still feel like a zoombie! need to go to town but really cant get the energy together!

going back to dozing on the sofa!

FoghornLeghorn · 07/09/2006 10:02

I didn't think I would be entitled to the SSMG as we are not on a particularly low wage but we qualify through the Child Tax element, if you claim Child Tax over a certain amount you are entitled aparently.
My CTC's are still being sorted from DD so not sure whether we will get the SSMG or not, depends if they get their finger out or not.

Does anyone know why some Moses Baskets say that they are only suitable for babies up to 13lb?
I thought they would last a few months, and I have no idea how long it takes a baby to reach 13lb. I'm buying one for my friend, who is now overdue so I need to get it quite quickly. She's told me which one she wants, but it does say it should only be used up to 13lb.

staceym11 · 07/09/2006 12:59

i generally think moses baskets are ok until the child can sit up then there is a risk of tipping (rolling might be a problem too if they are big) my dd was born 6lb 14 and wasnt 13lb until she was around 5 month, but obviously if a baby is bigger it will take them less time to reach this weight!

Charleesunnysunsun · 07/09/2006 13:27

Afternoon, i have just been to my physio appointmaent for my carpal tunnel syndrome! I was the entertainment for the morning, apparently in the 12yrs the therapist has worked there she has never seen anyone quite as bendy as me! I knew i was double jointed but not to that extreme! She called all her collegues in to have a look and had me doing bizare stretches!
Anyway she gave me a splint and some excersises to do and i don;t have to go back unless it gets worse.

I have a very lazy baby today only a few movements i may venture up to the antenatal clinic when dp gets home to have a check up if it doesnt get it's bum into gear and start kicking!

Poor thing can;t win i moan if it kicks to much and hurts and i moan if it doesnt kick at all!

jamcrumpet · 07/09/2006 14:07

Hi there bendy Charleysunnysunsun!

You may have already heard this but I mentioned to a friend of mine I was concerned about my LO - I either get big 'hoofs' or nothing at all and sometimes I'd just like to kick start it. Anyhow she had a similar issue and the hospital suggested drinking ice cold water - I know it sounds stupid but it does work, at least with my lazy one! It takes a while and a few glasses and they must be really cold but it works for me...

Sorry if you've already heard and tried this, hope everything is OK .

Hope you all have a lovely weekend, I'm off to stay with my Mum& Dad for a few days pampering - can't wait!

Debz99 · 07/09/2006 14:18

I have splints for my carpel tunnel too, but the material they are made from make me all hot and sweaty so not wearing them much ! Can you answer these question for me ... 1. does it get worse if you don't wear them, tbh it seems to be gradually getting worse but not sure if it's my imagination LOL and 2. will it definately go after LO makes an appearence?

calsworld · 07/09/2006 14:54

Sorry can't help re carpel tunnel...

Can I ask a question about movements? I'm 28 weeks and have regular movements, and quite happy with the whole sometimes active, sometimes not thing..but baby does this weird thing that i've not heard any one else mention....if i recline (that sounds posh) on my back (in the bath or on the bed is normal place) the baby sometimes goes into this weird, slightly mad spasm....sort of rocking from side to side - crikey, its really hard to describe...maybe like its facing straight out with boxing gloves on, doing fast punches left, right, left etc....I was quite happy with it at first, just laughing at my little alien....but then I dreamt it was having fits and now am worrying....anyone got a clue what i'm talking about?

MGL, I find that LO has a few 'busy' days, then goes quiet...but always comes back with a few active punches when its had a good rest! I think I've been doing a lot of growth spurts rather than steady progression recently too, at least thats my justification for eating like a horse for three days then appetite just drops away.

I also think I have to stop denying that I've been having cravings - i've never been a fan of milk but have consumed six pints in the last 48 hours !

HopingCat · 07/09/2006 16:07

I've had a few times in the past week when LO moves very little. My mw says 10 movements a day is all they are looking for so I tend to lie down and put something on my belly eg a book to see if it will kick it off. It doesn't always happen very fast but it will have a kick if I put pressure on the bump for long enough.

I am definitely getting more paranoid about the baby's movements, but have come to the conclusion that it isn't kicking less than it used to, it's just that it is getting stronger so I'm noticing the big kicks and not the smaller more regular ones.

Debz99 · 07/09/2006 16:16

HC I'm the same DP tells me to leave LO alone cos I'm so paranoid about his movements I poke and prod until I get some kind of response !

Deb - My physio said that the splint may or may not make it better and it may get worse weather i wear it or not.

She also gave me an excersise to do that is perfectly safe so you could try it.
it's called contrast bathing you have to get a bowl of comfortable temp hot water and a bowl of ice cold water.
Dip your hand and wrist in the hot for a minute then cold for a minute and keep alternating for 10-15 mins.

She also said massaging it and keeping it elevated about your heart may help but there is no diffinate cure.

Yes it should deffantly go when LO comes along as it is caused by excess water that you get whilst preg pushing on your carpal tunnel restricting the nerves.

I hope that helps.

podglet · 07/09/2006 17:43

Hi all,

Hope everyone is ok. Have been having the same worries re movements, sometimes nothing for hours but LO always perks up in the evenings so am not too worries.

Saw the consultant today. He confirmed I was measuring33 weeks but said although the baby was above average size, I have far too much fluid surrounding it. He isn't too concerned at the moment but I have ascan on 27th Sept to check amount of fluid £ then ack to consultant for check up and review on 5th Oct. Amm off now to google it to see what I can find!

Have a lovely weekend jamcrumpet and welcome to Kelsurprise

NatalieJane · 07/09/2006 18:24

HC DS wasn't a huge baby (7lb 15oz at birth) but looking in his red book at 8 weeks he was 12lb 9oz, and by 10 weeks he was 13lb 10 and a half oz....

saralou100 · 07/09/2006 18:54

my ankle has swollen to double it's size today, you can't see my ankle bone now and it's bloody sore!! sat here with ice on it, which is cooling me down nicely, it's turned hot here again, but nice hot, bearable!!

i've just looked at ds's red book, he was nearing 13lb at 9weeks, was 7lb8oz at birth.. i do remember we put him in his cot at 8 weeks 'cause he just looked unsafe in it.. he's always been a fidget child and the moses basket looked as if he was gonna topple it over!

about the movements, this lo has regular long periods of sleeping, either that or i'm too busy to pay full on attention to my belly, but it's very active in the evening.. have to confess though if i'm at work and beanie's been quiet a while i do get the doppla out and listen to the heartbeat, the reassurance is nice.. that and baby doesn't like having that done so is always guaranteed to move and push it away

and welcome to kelsuprise.. did you say when you were due?

xx

staceym11 · 07/09/2006 20:15

welcome to our newcomer (blame pregnancy brain for not remembering your name!)

as for movements i wish i cuold offer advice but my lo is really active as dd was inside (she slept lots once out thank god!) but i do find that cold water gets him moving as does laying on my side or alternatively poking him! arent we mean! lol

well having felt funny this morning and lounging i feel a lot better now, its cooled down a lot and jut about to have dinner as we had to go tesco shopping earlier which was fun with dd asking to look at the DBD's ( sehs 2 next month) and after looking at the DBD's she announced we should pay and go in the car! lol, took a lot of convincing that we still needed to buy all the food or she wouldnt get breakfast!

Charleesunnysunsun · 07/09/2006 20:45

LOL at your liitle one Stacey! DS cracks me up these days he's 2 next Friday but has been telling me all day he's 6!

He also found a 'Tonka' (conker to you and me) in town and was chuffed to bits, he does repeat everything so swear words are trying to be kept at a minimum at the moment!

I have something which i figure must be an arm or a leg sticking out my bellybutton and it's bloomin sore!

I went to M&S and got fitted for a maternity bra this afternoon, not nearly as embarrasing as i thought as they measure over my origional bra then correct the sizes and get you a range of sizes to try on whilst they wait outside! I am now the proud owner of 1 black and 1 white very comfy bra! only £20 for the 2.
I can go back 2 weeks before im due to get a feeding one, but im going to wait until a few weeks after if i can to see that im deffo able to feed.

Mummy2Toby · 07/09/2006 21:37

stacey & Charlee - lol at your lo's - my ds is 2 in November and has his own words for lots of things (it takes some figuring out) today he asked me for some "shaadys" and "poofoff" it took me quite a while to realise that he meant strawberries and pasta I don't know where he gets his words from - but charlee - I know what you mean about swear words - he has come out with some choice ones, my dh now has to speak to his friends out of ear shott of ds, as that is the only way he would hear the words! Most embarassing in the middle of Tescos though

Has anyone asked their mw about their baby moving less? There seem to be a lot of us getting concerned about movement, so I wondered if this is just something that happens in the last couple of months? My next appointment is Tuesday, but when you're worrying about something a few days can feel very long. My LO has spells of moving and then stays quiet for ages. Maybe he or she just sleeps a lot?
