Just realised I said hazelnut oil instead of witch hazel in my previous post, doh! There's a rocking horse on Gumtree I have my eye on, only £30 and 10 mins drive from my parents' house....ahhh temptation..

mrsb87 · 11/05/2014 21:08

I have my 20wk scan on Tuesday! Can't believe I'm 20wks! Loulou I'm suffering with heartburn too, really bloody horrible!
I also seem to be crying at everything this week? I cried because I couldn't find the dogs bone the other day, stupid.

Grannyapple · 11/05/2014 21:24

Hello folks!

yellow..I'm from Glasgow originally but now live in Kent Grin. Where abouts are your family in kent from?

When dc2 arrived, it was easier in someways as knew what to expect, but still feud shattered due to lack of sleep...I think I had forgotten how much I get like a train had hot he 1st time around due to lack of sleep! But in saying that...still loved getting up to see that wee cute thing in theists basket, making all the noise Grin.

Re: list of things to get, I second the lavender oil...great for post birth baths to aid healing & also helps with your sleep (quality vs quantity & all that!). Big cotton granny knickers...not attractive but you'll defo need them post birth...the disposable ones are utter rubbish. Got to primark or pick some up in supermarket when shopping...blank ones are obviously best & buy some 2 sizes bigger than normal. Oh & Kotex nighttime pads are the best for post birth bleeding...& nice & padded so make sitting down afterward a bit more comfortable.

Thanks for the reminder on the pram suit! DS was born in feb but was too small for any til at least 6 wks, & DS was born in July last year, so if totally forgotten about a winter pram suit Smile.

stigz your player should carry out a workplace risk assessment as soon as you tell them you're pregnant. In your line of work, I would've thought they'd have done it by now. DD's key worker at nursery is pg & she can't do certain things like change poo nappies & things..her work have risk assessed her.

Got builders here on Tuesday for 2 wks to create a 3rd bedroom & change an ensuite to a family bathroom..house is a tip & I think my stress levels might just sky rocket for the rest of this month!

Grannyapple · 11/05/2014 21:27

Crikey lots of typos there...apologies!

Should say "how much I felt like a train had hit me", "Moses basket " & stigz "your employer should carry out a risk assessment"!

Geez...time for my kip me thinks!

YellowWellies · 11/05/2014 21:40

Hi Granny its DH's family they're from Headcorn near Maidstone. I second big knickers. And a dark dressing gown to hide any leaks Blush .

Ah the 'hit by a train' feeling. I definitely still feel like I'm winging it now! But DS1 is asleep and in his cot! Thank you anbesol / calpol!

STIGZ · 11/05/2014 21:45

They have carried out a risk assesment, i did say about back pain and low seating & desks!

She said i should adjust my practise and get children to come to me as much as possible?!? Then health & safety officer suggested getting a chair with wheels that could be easily transported from area to area- my boss said that would be a health & safety risk in itself??

Even if had an appropriate chair, i would still have to stoop to lean on small desks

So after risk assesment i still am no further forward on a solution and back pain has got worse since that was carried out about a month ago!

I dont like to be seen as
Making a fuss but im actually dreading tomorrow! Going to get an appt at docs to see what she suggests also!

ExcitedCJ · 11/05/2014 22:07

Ooh ladies, great stuff with the essential lists. I have lots from DD but I think that might be making me a little complacent so I have got lots from your suggestions. Thanks.
Yellow I totally love the Tuppence & Crumble Star suit, what a fantastic suggestion, I had a lovely hand-me-down fleece pram suit from Jojomaman with DD but this looks so much easier. I'm so excited to have my 20 week scan so I can buy some stuff. :)

ohthegoats · 11/05/2014 22:11

I'm still not in mat clothes either. I don't find them very comfy, so still with leggings and dresses. Not very bump-y though, just a bit of a fatter tummy than normal (and probably only I'd notice it - I've totally lost my waist, but no one else will see that because I can cover it up with empire line things).

YellowWellies · 11/05/2014 22:34

And he's awake. Fecking teeth, fecking reflux! Third night of

weeonion · 11/05/2014 23:10

I found you all! I thought the constipation chat on the last thread had silenced everyone Grin

16 weeks today ....

yellow wellies and blinky - just down the road from you in Glasgow Smile

YellowWellies · 12/05/2014 05:05

Up again. Third time tonight poor chap. Said to DH I'd take him as he's up for work in two hours. DS is now snoring into my boob, stroking my arm but bet he wakes if I try to pop him into his cot. And its getting light.... There's a reason they're so damn cute asleep.

Kirstipops · 12/05/2014 07:40

Awww CJ I'm so gonna get one of those Tuppence and Crumble star-shaped pram suits, they're looovely!
Sounds like a rough night Yellow hope it doesn't wipe you out too much for the rest of the day! Been up since 4, think I'm part excited about today's scan, part hormonally pouting about DH's training abroad this week, not to mention my cat with the Puss in Boots-esque enormous pupils wanting to play a dawn game of fetch...ooft.

ohthegoats · 12/05/2014 09:31

Aaw, I had a nice 'loads of movement' thing going on this morning. Tried to get boyfriend to feel it, but even though it was kicking when he had his hand in the right place, he couldn't feel anything. That's a flabby tummy for you!

sazzlehopes · 12/05/2014 10:00

Kirsti hope your scan goes well today!

yellow thanks for the star fleecy suggestion, like excited going to keep that on my maybe to buy list for after the 20 week scan next week. Although I do have a similar thing this looks so much easier to put on! I always felt I was going to break baby's arm trying to get them into things sometimes! And then they ended up crying!

And you are all very welcome about the new thread! Thanks too for the separate stats thread...a good idea.
I'm now wavering to finding out the sex next week at my scan when I was so determined not to! But my 3.5 yr old boy is being so sweet and saying he'd like to know and it's very hard to refuse him.....
Arghhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

YellowWellies · 12/05/2014 10:59

Good luck for scans today. I think I'm still going to stay team yellow. J isn't very sure of the whole pregnancy thing. But he has started, unprompted waving hello at my belly so maybe he knows more than I realise?

Hello weeonion woo lots of haggis Mummies! Hurray!

I'm a freelancer so spent the last few months of my pregnancy working on my birthing ball at my desk at home and with my nose in the fridge. So I don't really know what legally you are entitled to from your employer Stigz but from my understanding from pals it is your employer's problem to sort out your health and safety and it is not something that you should be worrying about or getting into pain from. Some employers can be dreadful and do much less than the letter of the law - my sisters bosses tried to con her out of a fortnight's holiday as she was preggers, so if in doubt maybe go and have a chat with Citizen's Advice?

As a cheeky aside, I would love it if someone could risk assess me and tell DH that he has to do all the shitty nappies whilst I'm knocked up! Mindst poor chap has been doing the cat litter tray since February 2012 when we found out I was expecting J. I convinced him it was harmful for me to do whilst BF as well as when preggers (am not sure if that is true at all but hey!) Wink.

I'm freelancing today. So I was so glad to hand our grumping boy to nursery. Teething is getting on Mummy's tits quite frankly - come on molars it's been four fecking days now make your move. I know it's worse for him but I am so crabby when sleep deprived and they get so irrational when in pain, it's hard not to bang your head against the wall. I've just eaten half a swiss roll. A well known cure for sleep deprivation. Honest. Mission don't become a fat pig this pregnancy is going vair well.

Star blankets are awesome. They are now my pressie of choice when a pal has a baby as they are so useful. J has a yellow one and a red one and looks like a wee pixie. Apparently because they are not bulky it is safe for them to wear them in a carseat - unlike snow suits which you should take off in the carseat as the thick fabric would compress in an accident and they could fly out of the seat straps - and in my logic having to undress a sleeping baby to get them into a carseat is a right PITA. So = cute and lazy - winner!

ExcitedCJ · 12/05/2014 14:25

Yellow never even thought about the snow suit compressing. Another reason to buy one, not that I needed one!

gunwalloe · 12/05/2014 14:39

Omg those star blankets are so cute I've never seen them before defiantly going to get one.

Kirsti I hope your scan goes great!

mum2kiss · 12/05/2014 14:57

me23 the brittax affinity won gold in the mother and baby awards for best travel system. The brittax car seatwon best infinfant carrier too...hmmm making me want to reassess my decision!

sazzlehopes · 12/05/2014 14:58

I love the idea that we will all know when we see october MN mums from the fact every single newborn will be in a star blanket... I wonder if they wonder why their page views and orders are up recently!!
Im LOVING the dove grey, so nice...

OP posts:
gunwalloe · 12/05/2014 15:00

I love the turquoise one but am worried people will presume she's a boy. I know I shouldn't care what others think.

mum2kiss · 12/05/2014 15:07

So I ended up at the day assessment unit yesterday after calling the out of hours doc. They are not concerned about the cramping but are about the shortness of breath. Ive had blood taken (after many attempts!!!!!) Which ended up being done by the anaesthetist as he was on his way to theatre! There was a small trace of what I think was protein in my urine so they are checking for a uti. We got to hear baby's heartbeat a few times which was nice for dd and dp as they hadnt heard before. The first time the baby's hb was 200bpm! This alarmed the out of.hours doc and he sent me straight up to the maternity ward. Once up there it had dropped to 150 though so they have assumed he must have caught the baby mid backflip or something...a very active little bean in there! Today my bump looks a lot bigger so maybe all the cramping was just growth???

Called physio again today to find out when I will get an appointment and they had me.down as having missed an appointment last Wednesday! I never received any appointment! So they've booked me in for an appointment this Wednesday at 2pm. It clashes with the school run but they claim all of their appointments are at 2pm on wednesday so I have to take it!

Being back on that maternity ward brought back some memories! Used the same toilet as when I was preggers with dd! One poor lady was trying to walk through contractionsthe whilst declaring the need for an epidural...he numpty of a partner just said "you don't need an epidural..." surprisingly she let him keep his teeth!

Right now off to look for a tuppence and crumble star thingy!

YellowWellies · 12/05/2014 15:18

mum2 fingers crossed it was just some of your tummy ligaments going ping - I think is the point that they can go and it can be terrifyingly painful. Fab that you got to hear the HB! I bet visitng the hospital made you dead nostalgic. I wish I were having DC2 in the wee island hospital I had DC1 as the care, staffing levels and ability to room in until BF was established (even if it took 10 days!) was amazing - but I'll (begrudgingly) swap it for a hospital that has a full range of anaesthetic options without the need for a plane trip and some birth pools.

Here's my wee man in one of his blankets doing a Yoda impression.

October 2014 - thread 6 - BLUE/PINK/YELLOW the finding out begins!!!
FrauEnglischLehrerin · 12/05/2014 15:53

Checking into the new thread. Thanks, sazzle!

Stigz - I know it's completely unhelpful, but you would definitely be signed off work by now in Germany. Hope your dr sees it like that! Otherwise, could you take a cushion/foam mat to work and kneel or sit on that when you are at the little tables? Or maybe they would let you have a birthing ball in there if adult-sized chairs are too much of a health-and-safety risk Hmm?

I'm another one wondering how it will be to bf second time round. Really hoping that initial let-down pain won't be as bad or go on for as long, but since it's three years since I last fed dd I suspect my milk ducts will have stiffened up again.

Must investigate star blankets...

sazzlehopes · 12/05/2014 15:58

Yellow - Such a sweet pic in the star blanket - love the yellow too - really cute.
I'm sold. That'll defo be my first purchase after my scan next week - eeeeeep it's exciting!

Cherie037 · 12/05/2014 15:58

Work has been insane so I haven't been able to have a few minutes to myself!

Names - We have a boys name but a girls name is still being decided. I won out with the first one so I'm sure I will win out with the second as well :)

Travelling - DD has been to Canada twice as well as 4 inter-province flights while in Canada, Dubai and Barcelona and she is going to Canada again in June. We want to get that last long haul flight in before we have to pay for her!!!
This first few months are definitely a little life changing but I think everyone figures it out for themselves, DD2 was really easy and I was out and about 2 days after giving birth, I like to walk and that is also how I lost all of my pregnancy weight too!! If you want to go hiking with baby just buy yourself a good sling and they can go anywhere you want with them.
