Scan today all good and to my surprise we are team pink! Was convinced as were all my family friends it was a boy so what a shocker, need to get my head around having a daughter, never imagined that one!

pusscous · 27/05/2014 20:40

LondonJen- have the same irritation/ anger over others' assumptions on gender. I bought my 3 month old niece a blue and cream print dress with cream lace and the comments were that it was a boys outfit?? Do you see boys wearing dresses with lace on ( excluding Christenings and the like)?? I have already been told that a girl must be dressed in pink never blue and not neutral colours like white etc as people are unable to tell the gender as babies look like boys at that age??

Sorry joined the rant..

Congratulations on the scan results, mine is a week today..

ohthegoats · 27/05/2014 21:09

people are unable to tell the gender

Haha, does it matter that strangers are unable to tell the gender?

Mine will be in non-gender or boy's clothes as a newborn, because that's what I'll be lent for that period of their lives - I don't see that it matters whether it's a boy or a girl wearing dinosaurs and trucks. I love trucks (was a transport manager before I was a teacher!) for a start!

It just amused me that notonthehighstreet was specific on gender right down to a changing bag for men.

We've just done the whole 'parents' staying' conversation. He wasn't awake when I talked with his 'rents last night about wanting 2 weeks clear of overnight guests. They took this to mean guests full stop, and that they weren't allowed to meet the baby when it's new. Sigh. He also doesn't really understand why I don't want my mum to stay either. It's not personal about either of the mums, or dads for that matter, it's just that I want 2 weeks to get my tits out whenever I like, to cry whenever I like, and for us three to get used to each other/the new scheme of things. Day visits are fine.. for no more than an hour at a time in the first 2 weeks.

I also pointed out that I can think whatever I like at this point, but who knows?? I might have the worst birth ever and need loads of help just for ME afterwards, I might have the best one ever and be bored of my wonder-child after 3 days.. I just don't want anyone assuming they are welcome to come and generate washing up and bed sheet changing when I'll have other things on my mind. I mean, they've been here since Friday, and this morning it took me 3 hours to get the house back to normal, do washing, change beds, hoover, sort out that they sleep in our dressing room so our own room is a mess etc etc. Boyfriend doesn't get this because he's not here to do it himself!

And breeeeeeathe...

ExcitedCJ · 27/05/2014 22:04

I have been a little concerned about lack of movement all day so I decided to download the babybeats app. It is not meant before 30 weeks but I thought I would chance it anyway. I didn't get a strong regular heartbeat when I used it (got a faint beat & no proper BPM) but I got a jolly big wollop from the inside when I started to use it! :) now I can go to sleep more relaxed.
In reply to the 'Colic' question my paediatrician suggested that the latest thinking on colic was that it is mostly varying degrees of silent reflux and as Yellow suggested can be exhaserbated by eggs, dairy etc. My LO didn't have an issue with food intolerance just plain old, hideous silent reflux. It was brought under control by some serious ant-acid stuff - Losec, from painful memory. Once she was on solids the problems went away. It can as has been said be serious. Thankfully Docs seem much keener to respond now & much more is known & not to frighten it needs to be pretty serious & prolonged to cause lasting effects.

ExcitedCJ · 27/05/2014 22:13

Ahhhhh!!! I love that app! I just got a 30 sec recording of 152 BPM! :)

mum2kiss · 27/05/2014 23:06

Thankfully we don't haven't he space for anyone to stay here and if the ILs were even to suggest it they and dp would get the death stare until they regained their senses! They are still on this stupid buggy malarkey and seem to be ignoring dp. They've been to mothercare and picked out the one she wants...dp is now annoyed that we'll have 2 buggies because she won't even listen to our likes/dislikes and clearly feels her decision is final! Since she's ignoring everything he says he's trying a new tact of getting them to buy something else entirely. I don't think I've ever had to deal with someone like her before! She is a control freak!

YellowWellies · 27/05/2014 23:16

Mum2 nightmare!!!!

CJ yep I love losec (omeprazole?) too. J is still on it. Silent reflux is an utter f*cker!

mum2kiss · 27/05/2014 23:27

So strange how people try to decide what colours you will dress your own child in!. I like blue for a girl and pink for a girl but not exclusively so! I just wouldn't buy a pink baby grow for a boy or a blue one for a girl...outfits can be any colour though! As adults we don't dress solely in one colour! Lol!

mum2kiss · 27/05/2014 23:28

yellow it's totally ridiculous!

fedupofrainydays · 28/05/2014 07:04

Add tea / coffee making to the list of endless tasks with visitors. Made so many when we had visitors! I always offer to make my own (and theirs) when I go and visit people with newborns as as stupid as it sounds even doing that is hard work sometimes when you can hardly get yourself dressed!!

queenasanti3 · 28/05/2014 07:53

My scan was fine yesterday everything fine, the baby wasnt in a good position for a photo, but have one from last week, just hope it dosent misbehave at the 3d scan going to book that for 28 weeks, don't think I can wait till October to see this cheeky ones little face Smile ??

porcito · 28/05/2014 09:44

Congrats queenasanti!

I went for a check up scan yesterday after some cramping and VERY light (as in was it my imagination) bleeding and no movement for over 24 hours. It would pick the one week when DP is gone, obviously. Everything was fine, thank goodness, was probably just bored of hearing me all day and not having its dad whack it on the head every hour to try to feel it move.

Since my last scan 3 weeks ago though, all its measurements have slowed down, so now I'm worried about that. Wish I could stop worrying about EVERYTHING. My mum joked that she could see the frown lines on this picture. I've spent the night stupidly googling the measurements, hasn't helped! I wish I had wine...

LondonJen · 28/05/2014 10:12

That dress sounds so pretty Porcito

Trucks! I had the best garage/petrol station toy when I was about 3..!

I started off saying no staying over visitors, want us 3 to bond etc but now not feeling as strong about it. From what I've ready I feel lucky as I know PILs well enough they can fetch their own cups of tea and clean up!

Lovely news Queen

Do they not grow in little bursts at this point Porcito? I'm sure things will catch up. Maybe baby is busy building blood cells in the bone marrow now and will have a growth spurt after that? (Current page of my baby book all about making blood cells!)

ohthegoats · 28/05/2014 10:29

Urgh, I feel like I've been hit by a bus today. Absolutely exhausted. Didn't really eat much yesterday as felt quite sick, but worked really hard on some stuff in the house (shifting stuff around). Now I've got the weird labia-ache thing going on, and feel sicky and grim. I keep forgetting that I can't just keep doing loads of heavy physical stuff - I think I'm alright for a bit, then just collapse in a knackered heap.

Don't fancy any food either.. not even a mini Magnum, which must mean things aren't right!

Loulou888 · 28/05/2014 10:38

goats I've been feeling much more energetic too. Spent the whole day out on Monday. Now seem to be paying for it. Absolutely shattered. Nausea has returned and have brought my last 2 meals up.

Speaking on the clothing front. Ordered a couple of pairs of linen trousers from next. My usual size are huge and tent looking like! Size smaller are fine but absurdly long. Fed up with trying to shop for nice stuff, unable to see it in store as always only available on line!!!! Grrrr

portico everyone grows differently. I wouldn't worry my friend and I were same size she had a 6lb baby and I had a 9lb one....

HopefulHamster · 28/05/2014 10:40

Has anyone taken time off work for sheer tiredness yet? I went to bed at 10pm which is really early for me and am still shattered at my desk - can barely keep my eyes open.

Porcito - do you have more scans coming up to check growth? Could a midwife put your mind at rest?

We had a private gender scan yesterday as baby wasn't supercooperative at the 20 week scan last week and confirmed she's a girl. So pleased. Would've been pleased either way but I'm one of those people who loves knowing :)

ohthegoats · 28/05/2014 12:06

I'm really tired while I'm digesting I've noticed! Half an hour after eating, baby starts jumping about and I just want to sleep. Could easily doze off in class around 1.30. Because it's half term, I've been having naps.

I finally picked up my Bounty pack today - all the dumbarse questions that I've been asking on here, or bugging my mates-with-babies about, could have been answered 2 months ago by reading a simple little booklet. Haha. One of the bad side of private 12 week scans - you don't get the freebies.

PunkyBubba · 28/05/2014 12:34

Hamster, I am off sick today through tiredness. Lying in bed now still in dressing gown and PJs. I know I should go and sort my lunch but think I will snooze a bit longer instead. I had restless legs last night, achy etc so couldn't settle for ages. No energy at all today

ohthegoats · 28/05/2014 12:43

Well, my core teaching hours are 8.30 - 3. In theory I could turn up at 8.25, nap through lunchtime 12.15 - 1, then go home at 3.05. It would be very weird, but if I was that tired, I'd still go in (it's a massive pain having to find cover for teachers, and actually more work for the ill teacher in planning something for someone else to teach). I just tell my kids that I don't feel well, please be kind, and they mostly are.
